Abstract
Description
Introduction
[0001] The present invention relates to a filter cartridge for filtering water according to claim 1. Furthermore, the invention relates to a water dispenser for dispensing filtered water according to claim 11. State of the art
[0002] A variety of devices for filtering water, particularly tap water, are known in the art. In addition to conventional filter jugs, in which unfiltered water is filtered as it flows through a filter element and can then be dispensed via a spout, more complex water dispensers are also known that allow for the metered dispensing of filtered water, typically with adjustment of the temperature of the filtered water or with the addition of carbon dioxide to the filtered water.
[0003] To filter the tap water, these water dispensers typically use filter cartridges that can be detachably connected to the water dispenser. The filter elements contained in the filter cartridges serve to purify the water poured into the water dispenser. The filter elements can be membrane filter elements or activated carbon filter elements, for example. This allows coarse contaminants such as rust, dirt, or dust to be removed from the tap water. Other contaminants such as heavy metals, nitrate, or pharmaceutical residues can also be removed from the tap water using customized filter elements. However, to maintain consistent water quality, the filter cartridges must be replaced at regular intervals.
[0004] Known filter cartridges generally comprise a filter section and a connection section. The connection section is assigned to an end region of the filter cartridge, generally the end region assigned to the top of the filter cartridge. In the filter section, the filter cartridge is essentially hollow-cylindrical and contains the filter element, which is arranged in the interior of the filter cartridge. The connection section serves to connect the filter cartridge to the water dispenser. For this purpose, the filter cartridge has an inlet area in the connection section for introducing unfiltered water from the water dispenser via a connection piece of the water dispenser into the filter cartridge. In order to be able to discharge the filtered water from the filter cartridge again, the filter cartridge is also equipped with an outlet area in the connection section. In this way, water can be fed into and out of the filter cartridge via the top of the cartridge. The diameter of the filter cartridge tapers from the filter section toward the top of the cartridge. A correspondingly designed connector of the water dispenser can be connected by inserting the filter cartridge with its connector section into the connector of the water dispenser, for example, by screwing it in.
[0005] A known filter cartridge, originating from the applicant, has a connection section with a conically tapered area closed by a hollow cylindrical section. The hollow cylindrical section contains both the inlet and outlet areas for the unfiltered and filtered water, respectively. Additionally, the hollow cylindrical section is provided with sealing elements that encircle the hollow cylindrical section. To connect the filter cartridge to the connector of the water dispenser, the connector is placed onto the connection section. The filter cartridge is then rotated to engage the locking elements of the filter cartridge with corresponding recesses in the connector.
[0006] However, it has proven problematic with the filter cartridges described above that a person inserting the filter cartridge into the water dispenser's connector cannot determine whether the filter cartridge has been inserted sufficiently into the connector to create a fluid-tight connection. In particular, there are neither tactile nor visual indicators for determining the optimal installation position. Task
[0007] The present invention is therefore based on the object of providing a filter cartridge in which connecting the filter cartridge to a connector of a water dispenser is simplified for a person using the filter cartridge. Solution
[0008] Starting from the filter cartridge mentioned at the outset, the above-mentioned object is achieved according to the invention in that the filter cartridge has a recess running around the filter cartridge in a transition section from the filter section to the connection section, so that the diameter of the filter cartridge in the connection section decreases stepwise relative to the diameter in the filter section, wherein the recess is suitable and configured to serve as a stop for the connection piece of the water dispenser.
[0009] The recess preferably completely surrounds the filter cartridge in the transition section, but can also be interrupted at least in sections. The recess provides a stop surface that is preferably horizontally aligned.
[0010] The filter cartridge according to the invention has many advantages. In particular, the recess simplifies connecting the filter cartridge to a water dispenser, since the water dispenser's connector, or at least a part of it, can abut against the recess, particularly its stop surface, when the filter cartridge is properly connected to the connector. This provides a visual and tactile indication to the person installing the filter cartridge that the filter cartridge is in the optimal installation position. This helps prevent situations in which the connection leads to fluid loss.
[0011] A preferred embodiment of the invention further provides that the filter cartridge has a conical region in the transition region which adjoins the recess and tapers towards the top. In other words, the filter cartridge is preferably conical at least in section in the transition section. It can be particularly advantageous if the diameter, starting from the preferably constant diameter present in the filter section, decreases stepwise due to the recess and then - viewed towards the top of the filter cartridge - tapers conically. The conically tapered region advantageously serves to simplify insertion of the filter cartridge into the connection piece of the water dispenser, since its shape provides a guide surface.
[0012] Adjacent to the conically tapered area, the filter cartridge can be designed in a known manner, i.e., have a section that also tapers conically and is terminated by a hollow cylindrical section. The hollow cylindrical section can contain both the inlet and outlet areas for the unfiltered and filtered water, respectively. Additionally, the hollow cylindrical section can be provided with sealing elements that encircle the hollow cylindrical section. In summary, the filter cartridge can therefore have a hollow cylindrical filter section, which is followed by a transition section which initially reduces its diameter in steps and is supplemented by a conically tapered region, and can be closed off by a connecting section, wherein the connecting section also has a conically shaped region and an adjoining hollow cylindrical region.
[0013] A preferred embodiment provides at least one stop element arranged in the transition section. The stop element also helps to indicate the optimal installation position of the filter cartridge, particularly if the connection piece of the water dispenser is equipped with a corresponding stop element. Since connecting the filter cartridge to the connection piece of the water dispenser generally requires two steps, namely, firstly, plugging the connection piece onto the filter cartridge and secondly, turning the filter cartridge, the stop element can simplify not only the first step but also the second step for the operator. This is achieved because the stop element indicates when the filter cartridge is in the optimal installation position, preferably as a result of a stop against a corresponding stop element of the connection piece of the water dispenser.
[0014] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the inlet area is designed as an annular opening cross-section. Preferably, the inlet area can also be designed as an annular area with circular openings arranged at equal distances from one another. Unfiltered water from the water dispenser can be introduced into the filter cartridge via the opening cross-section. Furthermore, according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the filter cartridge has at least one connection element associated with the outlet area, wherein the connection element is arranged centrally—relative to a cross-section of the filter cartridge. The connecting element can preferably be designed in the form of a connecting pin, which can further preferably be provided with sealing elements that ensure that the filter cartridge can be connected to the water dispenser, in particular its connecting piece, in a fluid-tight manner. After filtration, the filtered water can thus be transported back to the water dispenser via the connecting element.
[0015] According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the inlet region is arranged concentrically to the outlet region. In this way, both the inlet region and the outlet region can be arranged in an upper edge region of the filter cartridge. Such an arrangement has also proven particularly useful with regard to filter elements used in the filter cartridge, in which the water flows through the filter element in the opposite radial direction, i.e. starting from an outer circumferential region in the direction of a longitudinal axis. Both the outlet region and the inlet region can be located in a hollow cylindrical region of the connection section of the filter cartridge.
[0016] An advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the stop element is designed in a nose-like manner and extends from the filter section toward the top of the filter cartridge. The stop element can preferably be trapezoidal in cross-section, with the corners of the stop element preferably being rounded.
[0017] A particularly advantageous further development of the filter cartridge according to the invention provides that the diameter of the filter cartridge in the area of the stop element remains unchanged relative to the diameter of the filter cartridge in the filter section, so that the recess is interrupted by the stop element. In the area where the recess is present, a stop is thus formed. In particular, if the connecting piece is also equipped with a corresponding stop element, the stop element can thus be guided along the stop surface of the recess when connecting the filter cartridge to the connecting piece until it finally abuts the stop element of the filter cartridge. The person using the filter cartridge is thus particularly advantageously indicated that the filter cartridge is in the optimal installation position.
[0018] The filter cartridge can preferably have at least one locking element arranged in the connection section for locking the connection piece of the water dispenser to the filter cartridge. The locking element can have an insertion section that is flattened compared to the rest of the locking element. The insertion section enables particularly easy insertion of the locking element into a recess, which is preferably provided in the connection piece of the water dispenser. In this way, in addition to the stop, the stop elements provide the filter cartridge with a further visual and haptic indication of the optimal installation position of the filter cartridge.
[0019] A further embodiment of the invention provides that the locking element is L-shaped in cross-section. The locking element is preferably arranged on the filter cartridge in such a way that the shorter section of the L-shaped locking element is oriented towards an underside of the filter cartridge, i.e. preferably vertically, while the longer section extends along the circumference of the filter cartridge, i.e. is preferably oriented horizontally. In this way, the shorter section can also be used as a stop if it is intended to insert the locking element into a recess in the connection piece of the water dispenser. The aforementioned flattened region is in this case preferably located at the end of the longer section and thus enables easy insertion into the recess. Furthermore, it is particularly advantageous if the locking element extends over at least part of a circumference of the connection section.
[0020] The aforementioned object is further achieved by a water dispenser having the features of claim 11. The water dispenser has at least one connector for connecting a filter cartridge. The connector has a hollow cylindrical connection area. This is provided and configured to receive a connection section of the filter cartridge. The water dispenser is characterized in that the filter cartridge is designed according to the invention and can be connected to the connection area of the connector by means of its connection section.
[0021] The water dispenser according to the invention has many advantages. In particular, the advantages described with regard to the filter cartridge according to the invention apply analogously to the water dispenser.
[0022] Preferably, it can further be provided that several filter cartridges are arranged in the water dispenser. For example, it can be provided that a first filter cartridge with a membrane filter element and a filter cartridge with an activated carbon filter element are used. The two filter cartridges can be fluidically connected to one another so that the introduced water is filtered in two stages. The connection elements of the respective filter cartridges can be connected to one another. It can also be provided that at least one of the filter cartridges has a third connection element that enables excess and unfiltered water to be discharged from the filter cartridge.
[0023] An advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the connecting piece has at least one recess for receiving the locking element of the filter cartridge. In this way, the filter cartridge can be locked to the connecting piece by receiving the locking element of the filter cartridge in the recess. If the locking element of the filter cartridge is L-shaped, the recess can extend in the circumferential direction of the connecting piece and, furthermore, preferably, its length essentially corresponds to the length of the longer part of the locking element of the filter cartridge.
[0024] A further embodiment of the invention provides that the connecting piece has at least one stop element which, when the filter cartridge is connected, strikes the recess of the filter cartridge. According to a further embodiment of the invention, the stop element is designed in the shape of a nose and protrudes beyond a lower edge region of the connecting piece. Preferably, the connecting piece can be designed in the shape of a pot and has a surrounding edge region that is circular in cross-section. In this case, it can be particularly advantageous if the stop element protrudes beyond the edge region. A design of this type has the effect that only the stop element strikes the recess of the filter cartridge. The optimal installation position of the filter cartridge is therefore particularly easy to identify for a person connecting the filter cartridge to the connecting piece. It may be particularly preferred if only the stop element of the connecting piece comes into contact with the recess of the filter cartridge, while the remaining edge region of the connecting piece is arranged at a distance from the recess after the filter cartridge has been inserted into the connecting piece.
[0025] A further preferred embodiment of the invention provides that the stop element of the connecting piece is designed to be complementary to the stop element of the filter cartridge, so that the filter cartridge can be connected to the connecting piece of the water dispenser, forming a positive connection. The stop element of the connecting piece is preferably designed to correspond to the connecting piece of the filter cartridge, preferably also protruding like a nose and more preferably trapezoidal in cross-section. In order to be able to connect the two stop elements to one another in a positive connection, it is particularly preferred if - if the stop elements are each trapezoidal in shape - they are aligned in a mirror image to one another, so that the respective trapezoidal edges are aligned parallel to one another when the filter cartridge is connected, thus forming a positive connection. Examples of implementation
[0026] The invention is explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment illustrated in the figures. It shows: Fig. 1: A side view of a filter cartridge according to the invention. Fig. 2: A perspective view of the filter cartridge from Fig. 1. Fig. 3: Another perspective view of the filter cartridge from Fig. 1. Fig. 4: A detailed view of the filter cartridge from Fig. 1. Fig. 5: Remove the filter cartridge from Fig. 1 in a state connected to a connecting piece of a water dispenser according to the invention. Fig. 6: Another view of the filter cartridge connected to the connector.
[0027] A filter cartridge 1 according to the invention is shown in the Fig. 1 to 6. The filter cartridge 1 is intended to be connected to a water dispenser according to the invention (not shown in the figures). Unfiltered water, in particular tap water, is poured into the water dispenser and is to be filtered using the filter cartridge 1, so that a person using the water dispenser can extract filtered water from the water dispenser. To ensure water quality, the filter cartridge 1 is designed to be replaced after a predetermined period of time or after a predetermined number of filtering cycles. For this purpose, the filter cartridge 1 can be detachably connected to the water dispenser.
[0028] The filter cartridge 1 has a filter section 2 and a connection section 4. The connection section 4 is located at an upper end region 3 of the filter cartridge 1. The filter section 2 has at least one filter element (not shown in the figures) arranged in an interior space 23 of the filter cartridge 1. The filter section 2 is hollow-cylindrical in shape.
[0029] Adjacent to the filter section 2 is the connection section 4 of the filter cartridge 1, which is intended for connecting the filter cartridge 1 to the water dispenser. For this purpose, the connection section 4 has an inlet area 7 for introducing unfiltered water and a discharge area 5 for discharging the water filtered by the filter cartridge 1 back into the water dispenser. The unfiltered water is fed via a connection piece 6 of the water dispenser, which is inserted into the Fig. 5 and Fig. 6, into the inlet area 5. In other words, the water is both introduced and discharged at one side, namely a top side 16, of the filter cartridge 1. The filtration of the water takes place in a known manner as a result of flowing through the filter element contained in the filter cartridge 1 in the reverse radial direction of the filter cartridge 1, i.e., starting from an outer circumferential area in the direction of a longitudinal axis 31 of the filter cartridge.
[0030] As particularly in the Fig. 2 and Fig. 4, the filter cartridge 1 in the filter section 2 has a constant diameter 11 over its entire length. In the connecting section 4, however, the diameter 8, 11 tapers starting from the filter section 2 in the direction of the upper side 16 of the filter cartridge 1. The demarcation between the filter section 2 and the connecting section 4 is determined precisely by the change in the diameter 8, 11. In this area, referred to as the transition section 9, between the filter section 2 and the connecting section 4, the filter cartridge 1 has a circumferential recess 10, as can be seen particularly well in the Fig. 2 to 4. Here, the diameter 8 of the filter cartridge 1 decreases in steps relative to the diameter 11 present in the filter section 2. As can be seen in particular from Fig. 4, the filter cartridge 1 has a conical region 25 adjoining the recess 10 and tapering towards the top side 16. Adjoining this conical region 25, the filter cartridge 1 is formed in a known manner: it has a likewise conical region 26, which is closed off by a hollow cylindrical region 27.
[0031] Also arranged in the transition section 9 are two nose-shaped stop elements 15. Each stop element 15 extends from the filter section 2 toward the top side 16 of the filter cartridge 1. There is no recess 10 in the area of the stop elements 15. The recess 10 is therefore interrupted by the two stop elements 15. The two stop elements 15 are arranged at an angle of 180° to each other in the transition section 9. Each of the stop elements 15 has a trapezoidal shape, with the corners of the stop element 15 being rounded.
[0032] The connecting piece 6 of the water dispenser is essentially pot-shaped and also has two stop elements 21, which are arranged at an angle of 180° relative to one another and on a lower edge of the connecting piece 6. The stop elements 21 are designed to correspond to the stop elements 15 of the filter cartridge 1. Their shape is also determined by a trapezoid with rounded corners. However, the stop elements 21 are mirrored by 180°, i.e., directed towards the underside of the filter cartridge 1, so that the stop elements 15, 21 can be arranged next to one another in a form-fitting manner, as shown in Fig. 5 is recognizable.
[0033] In addition to the stop elements 21, the connecting piece 6 has connecting elements 28 designed in a known manner for connecting the filter cartridge 1 connected to the connecting piece 6 to the water dispenser, in particular its water lines. One of the connecting elements 28 serves to introduce unfiltered water into the filter cartridge 1. The other of the connecting elements 28 serves to discharge the water filtered via the filter cartridge 1 back into the water dispenser. It can also be provided that several filter cartridges 1, in particular of different types, are connected in series so that the water is filtered through several stages. Such a connection can be useful, for example, when using a filter cartridge 1 with a membrane filter element and a filter cartridge 1 with an activated carbon filter element.
[0034] On the upper side 16, the filter cartridge 1 has an opening cross-section 30, as can be seen particularly well from the Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 can be seen. The inlet area 5 for introducing unfiltered water into the filter cartridge 1 is designed as an annular area 14 with circular openings arranged at equal distances from one another. In the outlet area 7, a connection element 13 in the form of a connection pin is arranged for connecting the filter cartridge 1 to the water dispenser, which is arranged centrally with respect to a cross-section of the filter cartridge 1. The inlet area 5 is arranged concentrically to the connection element 13 of the filter cartridge 1. The connection element 13 can be connected to a corresponding connection element of the water dispenser (not shown in the figures), so that filtered water can be introduced back into the water dispenser through the connection element 13, starting from the filter cartridge 1.In other words, after filtration through the filter cartridge 1, the water can be discharged from the filter cartridge 1 via the discharge area 7 and returned to the water dispenser.
[0035] Also associated with the connecting section 4 are two locking elements 17 with an L-shaped cross-section, which are also arranged at an angle of 180° to each other. The locking elements 17 each extend in the circumferential direction of the connecting section 4. Complementary to the locking elements 17, the connecting piece 6 of the water dispenser has two recesses 20, also with an L-shaped cross-section, into which the locking elements 17 of the filter cartridge 1 can be at least partially received, as shown in Fig. 6. Each of the locking elements 17 is - as can be seen particularly well in the Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 - is aligned such that the longer part of the locking element 17 is aligned horizontally, while the shorter part of the locking element 17 is aligned vertically. One end of the longer part of the locking element 17 is flattened, thus simplifying insertion of the locking element 17 into the recess 20 of the connecting piece 6. The shorter, vertically aligned part enables the filter cartridge 1 to strike the connecting piece 6 after screwing the filter cartridge 1 into the connecting piece 6.
[0036] The two locking elements 17 of the connecting piece 6 of the water dispenser are arranged approximately centrally relative to the two stop elements 21 of the connecting piece 6, as shown for example in the Fig. 3 is recognizable.
[0037] Furthermore, the filter cartridge 1 has two sealing elements 24 that enable a tight connection between the filter cartridge 1 and the water dispenser. The sealing elements 24 surround the hollow-cylindrical cross-section area 27 of the connecting section 4.
[0038] To connect the filter cartridge 1 to the connector 6 of the water dispenser, the connector 6 of the water dispenser is plugged onto the connection section 4 of the filter cartridge 1. The recess 10, in particular its stop surface 29, forms a stop 12 for stop elements 21 of the connector 6 of the water dispenser. As a result of the stop on the recess 10, the person connecting the filter cartridge 1 is shown that the filter cartridge 1 is in the correct installation position. When the filter cartridge 1 is in the correct installation position, only the stop elements 21 hit the recess 10. The edge region 22 of the connector 6, which is designed without stop elements 21, does not rest on the recess 10 and is therefore arranged at a distance from the recess 10.
[0039] In order to be able to connect the filter cartridge 1 to the water dispenser in a liquid-tight manner, it is intended to rotate the filter cartridge 1 after fitting the connecting piece 6. The rotational movement causes, on the one hand, that the locking elements 17 of the filter cartridge 1 are inserted into the recesses 20 of the connecting piece 6 of the water dispenser. On the other hand, the rotational movement causes the stop elements 21 of the connecting piece 6 to strike the stop element 15 of the filter cartridge 1. The stop elements 15, 21 then bear against one another in pairs in a form-fitting manner. The filter cartridge 1, when connected to the connecting piece 6 of the water dispenser, is in the Fig. 5 and Fig. 6. As a result of the stop elements 15, 21 being engaged, a person connecting the filter cartridge 1 to the water dispenser is also shown for this step that the filter cartridge 1 is properly connected to the water dispenser.
