Abstract
Description
[0001] Essentially, it concerns devices and methods for preserving oxygen- and moisture-sensitive substances, particularly those found in plants, herbs, and pharmaceuticals.
[0002] For example, medicinal cannabis flowers are most stable and best consumed at specific humidity levels. Excessive humidity during storage increases the risk of mold, while insufficient humidity leads to weight loss and reduced quality. Furthermore, the active ingredients degrade through chemical reactions with oxygen in the surrounding atmosphere. Terpenes, in particular, readily react with oxygen to form undesirable oxidation products, which impairs quality and, most importantly, efficacy.
[0003] The relative humidity and oxygen content in a closed environment can be stabilized through the use of humidity control systems. One option is the use of moisture-permeable pouches filled with special saline solutions. These pouches are capable of releasing or absorbing water, and some also have the ability to remove oxygen from the surrounding air. These pouches are known as "two-way humidity control packs," "humidity packs," or "hygro-packs." When packaging, for example, medicinal cannabis in glass jars with screw-top lids, a hygro-pack is added directly into the jar. Due to the frequent contact during removal, the hygro-pack is subjected to mechanical stress, and the resulting abrasion contaminates the stored material. Removing the hygro-pack also represents an additional step.Furthermore, over time they lose their ability to absorb or release moisture and to deplete the surrounding air of oxygen.
[0004] The invention described in claim 1 addresses the problem of placing a hygro-pack inside a screw-top glass jar without it needing to be removed or coming into contact with the contents, while still allowing it to function properly. Simultaneously, it should be replaceable, and it must be ensured that the jar can be sealed airtight.

[0006] The invention enables a hygro-pack to be placed inside a glass jar with a screw-top lid without coming into contact with the contents of the jar, yet still allowing it to interact with the air inside. The hygro-pack is securely attached to the lid and is removed from the jar when the lid is taken off. It is replaceable, and the glass container can be sealed airtight.

[0008] The figures show the lid insert with base plate 1, outer ring 2, and rim 3. The hygro-pack is inserted from above onto the base plate (1) and into the outer ring (2). The lid insert is fitted into the lid with the upper side of the rim (3) acting as a seal. The dimensions of the rim are chosen so that the insert fits snugly yet can be removed with minimal effort. The upper side of the rim (3) acts as a seal against the inside of the lid, creating an airtight seal. The underside of the rim seals the top of the jar opening, creating an airtight seal on the inside. To ensure the rim (3) functions as a seal, the lid insert is made of an elastic material, such as LDPE. When a lid with a lid insert containing a hygro-pack is screwed onto a jar, the insert hangs freely inside the jar.Removing the lid lifts the hygro-pack, which is located in the lid insert, out of the jar. The base plate has holes (4) or slots to allow air and water vapor to pass through, thus enabling the hygro-pack to interact with the air space inside the jar. [2] Lid insert according to claim 1, characterized by , that the rim (2) has an outer diameter of at least 45mm, at most 100mm, preferably 69mm. [3] Lid insert according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by , that the base plate (1) is perforated or slotted. [4] Lid insert according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by , that the base plate (1) has the same diameter as the outer diameter of the outer ring (3). [5] Lid insert according to one of the preceding claims, characterized by , that the outer ring (2) has an outer diameter of at least 31 mm, at most 86 mm, preferably 55 mm.
