Abstract
Claims
[1] A window assembly for mounting in an opening in an offshore structure, the window assembly comprising: - a window frame having an outer part and an inner part, the outer part being adapted to be attached to an outer part of the offshore structure, the inner part being adapted for connection to a shielding unit, - a window glass having a first side and a second side and adapted to close the opening and having a first edge region along the first side adapted to cover at least a part of the inner part, - a strip adapted to cover a second edge region along the second side of the window glass and to press the first edge region of the window glass against the inner part, wherein the window glass and the strip form the shielding unit, and wherein the strip is connected to the inner part via spacers which are individually attached to the inner part and which provide a distance between the inner part and the strip. [2] A window assembly according to claim 1, wherein the screening unit further comprises a first seal along the first edge region and / or a second seal along the second edge region, preferably wherein the first seal is placed between the first edge region and the inner part and preferably wherein the second seal is placed between the second edge region and the strip. [3] A window assembly according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the spacers are substantially identical and have a length between a first end and a second end, the length being between 5 mm and 100 mm, preferably between 10 mm and 50 mm. [4] A window arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the spacers are substantially identical and have a cylindrical shape with a diameter of 8 mm to 40 mm, preferably between 10 mm to 30 mm. [5] A window assembly according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the spacers are substantially identical and have a planar first end and a planar second end, preferably wherein the first planar end is attached to the inner part and preferably wherein the second planar end is attached to the strip. [6] A window assembly according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the spacers are attached to the inner part by welding, gluing, screwing or riveting. [7] A window assembly according to any preceding claim, wherein the spacers are attached to the inner member by welding bolts, screws or rivets. [8] A window assembly according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the spacers are attached to the inner part and the strip at intervals of 20 mm to 150 mm, preferably 35 mm to 100 mm. [9] A window assembly according to any preceding claim, wherein the window frame has an L-shaped cross-section. [10] A window arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the strip is formed as a border, preferably as a square, rectangular or circular border. [11] A window arrangement according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the window arrangement comprises a further window glass, preferably in the outer part of the window frame. [12] A window assembly according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the offshore structure is selected from a ship, a marine vessel, an oil or gas drilling rig. [13] A method of manufacturing a window assembly to be mounted in an opening in an offshore structure, the method comprising - providing a window frame having an outer part and an inner part, the outer part being adapted to be attached to an outer part of the offshore structure, the inner part being adapted for connection to a screening unit, - Providing a window glass having a first side and a second side and adapted to close the opening and having a first edge region along the first side adapted to cover and contact at least a part of the inner part, - providing a strip adapted to cover a second edge region along the second side of the window glass and to press the first edge region of the window glass against the inner part, the window glass and the strip forming the shielding unit, - Attaching spacers to the inner part, - Placing the window glass between the inner part and the strip, and - Connecting the strip to the inner part by attaching the strip to the spacers, thereby providing a gap between the inner part and the strip, and enclosing the window glass between the inner part and the strip. [14] A method according to claim 13, wherein the spacers are attached to the inner part by welding. [15] A method according to claim 13 or 14, wherein the strip is attached to the spacers by welding bolts or screws.
