AI Technical Summary
Existing post-bar constructions face challenges in achieving a consistent and effective seal in the crossing area between the post and the bar, leading to potential leaks and difficulties in assembly.
The post-bar construction features a protruding section on the bar that inserts into a recess of the glass attachment seal on the post, ensuring a consistent seal. Additionally, a support body with a distribution channel is used to fill and distribute sealant effectively, enhancing the seal between the attachment seal on the bar and the glass attachment seal on the post.
This solution provides an improved seal in the intersection area, preventing leaks and simplifying the assembly process by ensuring uniform distribution of the sealing mass.
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a post-and-beam construction with a post and a beam that can be fixed to the post, wherein a glass contact seal is fixed to the post and a drainage channel is arranged next to the glass contact seal, and an attachment seal is provided on the beam, which has two glass contact seals and a connecting section between the two glass contact seals, wherein the attachment seal projects beyond the end of the beam and is inserted in a recess of the glass contact seal, wherein a support body is arranged between the protruding end of the attachment seal and the post, and a method for assembling a post-and-beam construction.
[0002] EP 2 444 566 A2 discloses an arrangement of two profile bars positioned at an angle to each other, in which a top seal is notched at an intersection of the profile bars and engages into a recess in a glass seal. A shaped body is inserted into the notch as a sealing element so that liquid can be directed from a drainage channel of the top seal into a drainage channel on the top seal of a vertical support profile. This type of drainage has proven effective in itself, but leaks can occur in the intersection area due to gaps between the sealing element and the top seals.
[0003] DE 20 2012 104 406 U1 discloses a profile seal to which a sealing piece is attached at the end. The sealing piece extends the side ribs of the profile seal. An opening for injecting sealant is provided in the sealing element. However, sealing can only be achieved if the sealant also reaches the transition points between the side ribs of the profile seal and the sealing piece. The even distribution of the sealant is difficult to control, which can lead to sealing problems. Furthermore, it is difficult to perform the assembly process more reliably and quickly.
[0004] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a post-and-beam construction and a method for assembling a post-and-beam construction which enables improved sealing in an intersection area between a post and a beam.
[0005] This object is achieved with a post-and-beam construction having the features of claim 1 and a method having the features of claim 8.
[0006] In the mullion-transom construction according to the invention, the top seal attached to the transom comprises a protruding section that is inserted into a recess in the glass contact seal on the mullion. As a result, the glass contact seal is continuous, particularly in a joint area of the transom, since the top seal projects beyond the transom in its longitudinal direction, so that liquid can be drained via the top seal into the drainage channel on the mullion. At the protruding end of the top seal, an opening is also provided that is aligned with a filler opening of a distribution channel in a support body for filling with sealant. As a result, a sealant can be filled into the opening at the protruding end during assembly in order to then introduce the sealant into a filler opening of the distribution channel in the support body and distribute it over the support body. This also allows gaps between the top seal on the transom and the glass seal on the post to be effectively sealed.
[0007] The opening in the attachment seal is preferably formed in the connecting section between two glass contact seals at the bottom of a U-shaped section. The U-shaped section of the attachment seal can overlap a screw groove in the region of the transom, in particular overlap in a U-shape, wherein the opening for filling with sealant is provided in the bottom. This makes the opening easily accessible during assembly, and a filling tool can be positioned effectively. The attachment seal can be extruded and is provided with a notch at the protruding end so that the seal on the mullion and the attachment seal on the transom engage with each other. The walls of a drainage channel on the attachment seal are preferably continuous and project beyond the attachment seal, thus ensuring effective drainage of moisture.
[0008] In a further embodiment, the distribution channel behind the filling opening has two sections that extend in the longitudinal direction of the post. This allows the filled sealant in the distribution channel to be divided into two strands to seal a gap between the top seal at the protruding end and the glass contact seal on the post.
[0009] The alignment of the distribution channel can ensure that a drainage channel on the post is not contaminated with sealant, as otherwise the sealant would have to be laboriously removed from the drainage channel.
[0010] For effective installation, the support body is held in place by clamping or locking it to a part of the glass seal. For this purpose, appropriate locking webs or clamping elements can be provided on the support body. This allows the support body to be pre-fixed to a part of the glass seal before a protruding end of the top seal is then covered by the latch. In the installed position, the support body can have webs or edges directed toward the top seal, which at least partially cover one end of the top seal and, in conjunction with the sealant, ensure improved sealing.
[0011] In a further embodiment, at least one glass seal, preferably two glass seals, has a recess at the protruding end through which the filling of the distribution channel is visible. When the liquid sealant is introduced into the support body via the opening and the filling opening, the sealant is distributed until the sealant becomes visible at the recess in the glass seal, so that the filling process can then be completed without excess sealant entering the drainage channel or oozing out at other locations from which it must subsequently be removed. The recess thus offers a simple visual means of monitoring the filling process.
[0012] In the method according to the invention, a transom is first fixed to a post, wherein a recess is made in a glass contact seal on the post, for example a top seal with two glass contact seals. A support body is fixed in this recess, and a notch is provided on a top seal on the transom in order to then place a protruding end of the top seal onto the support body. Liquid sealant, in particular a permanently elastic sealant, is then filled into an opening at the protruding end of the top seal and a distribution channel in the support body. This sealant passes via the support body into the gaps between the top seal and the glass contact seal, thus improving the seal in the intersection area.
[0013] During filling, a nozzle of a filling tool attachment is preferably inserted into the opening at the protruding end. The nozzle can be tubular and have an axial length between 1 mm and 6 mm to minimize leakage when filling with sealant.
[0014] In a preferred embodiment of the method, during filling, a hold-down device on the attachment of the filling tool is pressed onto a protruding end of the attachment seal. The hold-down device allows the attachment of the filling tool to be aligned on the one hand to ensure precise positioning, and on the other hand, the hold-down device prevents the protruding end from being lifted by the filled sealant. The hold-down device can be adapted essentially in a form-fitting manner to the contour of the attachment seal at the protruding end; in particular, two projections can be pressed into two spaced-apart drainage channels on the attachment seal. The hold-down device can be coated with a non-stick coating, for example Teflon, at least on the contact areas of the hold-down device that come into contact with the attachment seal.
[0015] Preferably, the sealant filling process should be completed when sealant is visible at a recess on a glass seal or a protruding end of the top seal. This allows the installer to visually check when sufficient sealant has been filled into the support body.
[0016] A filling tool for carrying out the method is also provided, which has a pressurised cartridge and / or a cartridge press with a cartridge to which an attachment with a filling channel is fixed, which attachment has a nozzle which can be inserted into the opening at the protruding end of the attachment seal and a hold-down device which can be pressed onto the protruding end of the attachment seal during filling in order to support the protruding end of the attachment seal during the filling process.
[0017] The invention will be explained in more detail below using several exemplary embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings. They show: Figure 1a perspective view of a post-and-beam construction during assembly; Figure 2a perspective view of the support body of the post-and-beam construction of the Figure 2 ; Figures 3A to 3C show several views of an attachment of a filling tool; Figure 4 shows a view of a modified attachment; Figure 5 shows a view of a further modified attachment, and Figure 6 shows a view of a further modified attachment.
[0018] A mullion-and-transom construction 1 comprises a vertical mullion 2, which is connected to two horizontal transoms 3 in a joint area. An attachment profile 4, which has a screw groove 5, is attached to the mullion 2 on an outer side. An attachment seal 6 is fixed to the attachment profile 4, which covers the screw groove 5 of the attachment profile 4 at a central section and has a glass contact seal 7 and a part 8 for supporting the glass contact seal 7 on opposite sides. Between each glass contact seal 7 and a central section, which covers the screw groove 5, a drainage channel 17 is formed, which serves to drain liquid. The drainage channel is formed by a groove-shaped section in the attachment seal 6, but can optionally also be formed by a contour of the mullion 2.
[0019] Each bar 3 also includes an attachment profile 4 on the outside, which has a screw groove 5. An attachment seal 20 is fixed to the attachment profile 4, which has two glass contact seals 22, between which a connecting section 23 is formed. The connecting section 23 surrounds the screw groove 5 on the attachment profile 4, with a drainage channel 25 being formed between the section that surrounds the screw groove 5 in a U-shape and the glass contact seal 22. The strip-shaped glass contact seal 22 is secured to the attachment profile 4 via a strip-shaped support profile 21.
[0020] The top seal 20 and the top seal 6 are preferably made in one piece as extruded sealing profiles from an elastic and / or a hard material, for example EPDM and / or PVC.
[0021] In an intersection area of a transom 3 and the mullion 2, a recess 9 is provided on the outer strip-shaped glass contact seal 7, which is created by cutting and removing the glass contact seal 7. The inner strip-shaped part 8 of the attachment seal 6 has no recess and is continuous.
[0022] A support body 10 is inserted into the recess 9, which has a block in the central region from which two webs 12 extend, aligned parallel to the glass contact seal 7. A filling opening 11 is provided in the central block of the support body 10, which leads to a distribution channel on the support body 10. The block of the support body 10 can be inserted into a U-shaped section of the top seal 20 in a protruding end of the top seal 20. The support body 10 can be made of a hard and / or soft material, for example a plastic, and can optionally be additionally coated, for example with Teflon.
[0023] In the intersection area, the top seal 20 is provided with a notch in which a portion of the top seal 20 is cut away. As a result, the top seal 20 is stepped in one end region, and the support profiles 21 are cut away, while the wall sections for the drainage channels 25, the glass contact seals 22, and the connecting section 23 are protruding. A web engaging in the screw groove 5 is cut off at the connecting section 23 at the protruding end.
[0024] At the protruding end, an opening 24 is formed at a bottom of a U-shaped section, which opening 24 is aligned with the filling opening 11 on the support body 10 in the mounted position.
[0025] To assemble the mullion-transom construction 1, a transom 3 is first fixed to the mullion 2, in order to then fix the attachment seal 6 to the attachment profile 4. Furthermore, a recess 9 is created in the glass contact seal 7, into which the support body 10 is then inserted. A notch is created on the attachment seal 20 in order to then place a protruding end of the attachment seal 20 onto the support body 10. Liquid sealant, in particular a pasty, permanently elastic silicone-based sealant, can then be poured in using a filling tool with an attachment 30.
[0026] The attachment 30 comprises a nozzle 32 with an internal thread 31, which can be connected to a cartridge containing sealant. The cartridge can be pressurized or manually or electrically pressurized using a cartridge press to force sealant into the nozzle 32. Instead of the internal thread 31, the nozzle 32 can also be connected to the cartridge via other connecting means.
[0027] A hold-down device 33 is formed on the nozzle 32, which can be pressed onto the protruding end of the attachment seal 20 during filling, in particular into the groove-shaped drainage channels 25. This prevents the protruding end of the attachment profile 20 from being lifted off the support body 10 during filling with liquid sealant.
[0028] Sealant is poured into the opening 24 and the filling opening 11 until the liquid sealant becomes visible or oozes out of a recess 26 on a glass contact seal 22. The filling process is then terminated to prevent sealant from leaking out of the recesses 26, as this sealant would have to be removed again after assembly. In the illustrated embodiments, a recess 26 is provided on each of the glass contact seals 22, although it is of course also possible to provide only one recess 26 on one of the glass contact seals 22.
[0029] In Figure 2The support body 10 is shown in detail. The support body 10 comprises a central block in which the filling opening 11 is provided. Extending from the block on opposite sides are webs 12, in which a slot-shaped channel 13 is formed. During filling, the liquid sealant flows from the filling opening into the channels 13 on the support body 10, which extend parallel to the longitudinal direction of the post 2 and thus ensure distribution of the sealant in both directions.
[0030] The support body 10 comprises a protruding wall 15 on the central block and a protruding web 16 on each of the webs 12, which can be placed on the end face of the top seal 20. This improves the seal between the support body 10 and the end face of the top seal 20, which is at least partially covered by the webs 16 and the wall 15. In particular, a gap between the top seal 20 and the wall 15 and the webs 16 can be sealed by sealing means.
[0031] The support body 10 further comprises locking webs 14 on the side facing the part 8, which can be inserted into corresponding receptacles on the part 8 in order to be able to pre-fix the support body 10 in a clamping or locking manner.
[0032] In the Figures 3A to 3Can attachment 30 of a filling tool is shown. The attachment 30 can be connected to a pressurized or pressurizable cartridge containing sealant or sealing compound via the internal thread 31 on the nozzle 32. The attachment 30 comprises, on the side facing the attachment profile 20, a receptacle 38 surrounded by two web-shaped hold-down devices 33. Within the U-shaped receptacle 38, a protruding nozzle 34 is formed, which has an axial length of between 1 mm and 6 mm and can be inserted into the opening 24 on the attachment seal 20. The hold-down devices 33 allow the attachment 30 to be positioned centrally on the attachment seal 20. In addition, the hold-down devices 33 ensure that the protruding end of the attachment seal 20 is not lifted by the support body 10 during filling. The hold-down devices 33 engage in the drainage grooves 25 of the attachment profile 20 and can optionally be provided with a non-stick coating. In addition to the two hold-down devices 33, pressure pieces 35 are provided, each of which rests against a glass contact seal 22 and supports it against movement during filling. This allows the sealant to be filled via a filling channel 36 in the attachment 30 and through the nozzle 34 into the opening 24 and the filling opening 11. To facilitate assembly of the attachment 30, a radially projecting flange 37 is formed on the nozzle 32.
[0033] In Figure 4 A modified attachment 30 is shown, which is designed as in the previous embodiment, except for two protruding webs 39, which are plate-shaped and ensure improved alignment of the attachment 30. The webs 39 can be pressed onto an upper side of the connecting section during assembly and prevent an oblique alignment of the filling tool when the webs 39 are pressed onto the upper side of the connecting section 23.
[0034] In Figure 5 another variant of an attachment 30 for a filling tool is shown, which like the attachment 30 in Figure 3 is formed, except for the provision of a wall 40, which covers the receptacle 38 between the two hold-down devices 33 on one side. The wall 40 connects the two hold-down devices 33 to one another and serves to improve the alignment of the filling tool during assembly. The wall 40 can be placed against the wall 15 of the support body 10 during the filling process. Other means for positioning the attachment 30 at the opening 24 can also be used.
[0035] In Figure 6 A modified attachment 30 is shown, which complements the design of the Figure 3as in the previous exemplary embodiment, in which, in addition to a pressure piece 35, a pressure element 41 is also formed laterally. The pressure element 41 rests with a contact surface against a surface of the glass contact seal 7 when sealant is poured in. The contact surface of the pressure element 41 is essentially flush with a contact surface of the pressure piece 35, so that the glass contact seal 7 and the glass contact seal 22 are held in the same plane at the protruding end.
[0036] In the illustrated embodiment, attachment profiles 4 are mounted on the posts 2 and the transoms 3. It is, of course, also possible to form the attachment profiles 4 integrally with the posts and transoms, for example, if they are made of an extruded aluminum profile. Furthermore, the posts 2 and transoms 3 can also be made of wood or plastic instead of metal.
[0037] In addition, the geometry of the top seals 6 and 20 can be modified. Instead of a one-piece design, the top seals 6 and 20 can also be composed of several individual sealing elements or sealing strips. List of reference symbols
