Description

[0001] The invention relates to a capsule filling machine having the features of the preamble of patent claim 1. Capsule filling machines of the type mentioned above are known from DE 28 30 849 A1, US 3,534,526 A and US 2013 / 206484 A1.

[0002] Based on this, the object of the invention is to provide an alternative capsule filling machine.

[0003] The invention solves this problem in that the counterholder can be arranged or is arranged, at least for a final part of the joining path between the filled capsule lower part and capsule upper part, in a stop region which, viewed along the joining axis, is spaced from the conveying region with the interposition of a removal region, wherein a removal sleeve is arranged in the removal region, which fixes and removes the filled and completely joined capsule outside the conveying region.

[0004] By spacing the stop area from the conveying area, it is possible to use this space as a removal area and, in particular, to provide the removal sleeve in the removal area.

[0005] The arrangement of the counterholder in the stop area also involves a shift of the final joining path from the conveying area (as practiced in the prior art) to the removal area. Since the filled and fully joined capsule can be secured in the removal sleeve, this enables the filled and fully joined capsule to be removed directly after the final part of the joining path, and in particular, without any further movement of the closing element and / or the counterholder.

[0006] In a preferred embodiment, the height of the removal area, measured between the conveying area and the stop area, corresponds at least to the length of a filled and fully assembled capsule. This ensures that the entire, fully assembled capsule can be accommodated in the removal area, allowing particularly safe removal of the capsule from the removal area. In particular, damage to the capsule (e.g., due to the capsule dragging along a surface bordering the conveying area) is prevented.

[0007] Furthermore, it is preferred that the counterholder is movable along the joining axis and acts on the upper side of the capsule upper part in the conveying area and / or in the removal area. At the beginning of the joining of the capsule parts, i.e. during the initial insertion of the capsule lower part into the capsule upper part, there is a risk that the capsule upper part will be displaced in an uncontrolled manner by the capsule lower part and that this could, for example, cause the capsule lower part to become wedged with or in the capsule upper part. Due to the movement of the counterholder into the conveying area and / or removal area, the capsule upper part is already subjected to a force by the counterholder in the conveying area and / or removal area, which force is directed opposite to the direction of movement of the closing element and ensures the correct insertion of the capsule lower part into the capsule upper part.

[0008] During the joining process, the upper part of the capsule is subjected to a force by means of the counter surface of the counterholder, which is directed opposite to the direction of movement of the closing element.

[0009] Particularly preferably, the counterholder arranged in the conveying area or the removal area can be moved into the stop area by a movement of the closing element, which is transmitted to the counterholder via the capsule parts. This potentially simplifies the movement control of the counterholder. In the simplest case, it is sufficient to control any desired movement of the counterholder for only one direction of movement out of the stop area and into the removal area or the conveying area. On the other hand, a return of the counterholder in the opposite direction of movement back to the stop area can be carried out passively and controlled via the closing element.

[0010] Furthermore, it is preferred that the counterholder exerts a force on the upper side of the capsule upper part that is opposite to the direction of movement of the closing element. This force supports the joining process of the capsule upper part to the capsule lower part.

[0011] Furthermore, it is preferred that the closing drive is configured so that the closing element moves along the joining axis without interruption or stopping, starting from initial contact with the underside of the filled capsule base until the completion of the final part of the joining path. This enables simplified movement control of the closing element, since only one initial position and one final position of the closing element along the joining axis need to be defined. Furthermore, the uninterrupted and stop-free movement shortens the time required for joining the capsule parts.

[0012] Particularly preferably, the capsule upper part receptacle has a holding region for receiving and holding the capsule upper part and a guide region facing the capsule lower part receptacle for receiving and guiding the capsule lower part. The holding region ensures secure and reproducible positioning of the capsule upper part in the capsule upper part receptacle. The guide region serves to guide and align the capsule lower part relative to the capsule upper part during the movement of the capsule lower part along the joining axis. By laterally supporting the capsule lower part in the guide region, tilting of the capsule lower part relative to the joining axis is prevented, in particular.

[0013] In particular, it is preferred that the holding area of the capsule upper part receptacle be delimited by an annular projection, by means of which an annular edge of the capsule upper part can be or is supported. The annular projection represents a simple possibility for arranging the capsule upper part, in particular with gravity support, in a well-defined and reproducible position within the holding area.

[0014] Furthermore, it is preferred that the length of the guide region of the capsule upper part receptacle, viewed along the joining axis, corresponds to at least 30% of the length of the capsule lower part, preferably at least 70% of the length of the capsule lower part, in particular at least 100% of the length of the capsule lower part. A longer guide region is associated with improved guidance of the capsule lower part, since a larger portion of the capsule lower part can be accommodated and guided in the guide region.

[0015] A preferred embodiment provides that the capsule upper part receptacle has a slotted wall. Since the volume enclosed by the capsule parts decreases during the joining of the capsule parts, excess pressure can build up inside the capsule. As a result, the medium contained in the capsule (particularly gaseous) is displaced from the capsule and accumulates in the capsule upper part receptacle, which can cause excess pressure to build up in the capsule upper part receptacle. The slotted wall ensures the outflow of the displaced medium from the capsule upper part receptacle and thus prevents, in particular, unintentional displacement and / or ejection of the capsule upper part caused by the excess pressure.

[0016] Particularly preferably, the capsule upper part receptacle and the capsule lower part receptacle are each designed as format parts that can be inserted into the conveyor system. The dimensions of the capsule upper part receptacle and the capsule lower part receptacle are particularly tailored to a specific capsule size. The insertable format parts enable easy and quick switching between different capsule sizes.

[0017] In particular, it is preferred that the conveyor device be disc-shaped and that the conveyor drive drives the conveyor device about a conveyor rotation axis. This ensures a particularly space-saving and efficient design of the capsule filling machine.

[0018] Furthermore, it is preferred that the removal sleeve be part of a removal device, which is particularly designed as a sorting device. This enables the removal of the fully assembled capsule from the removal area immediately after the capsule parts have been joined. If the removal device is designed as a sorting device, incorrectly filled and / or assembled capsules can be easily removed from the production process (good / bad sorting).

[0019] In a preferred embodiment, the removal device comprises a transport element and a transport drive that drives the transport element about a transport element axis offset from the conveyor. In particular, the removal sleeve is part of the transport element, enabling a space-saving and efficient design of the removal device. The transport drive makes it possible to coordinate the movement of the transport element about the transport element axis with the movement of the conveyor about the conveyor rotation axis.

[0020] The object mentioned at the outset is also achieved by a method for operating a capsule filling machine, which comprises the features of the independent method claim.

[0021] Advantages and embodiments of the method according to the invention are explained above with reference to advantages and embodiments of the capsule filling machine according to the invention; therefore, reference is made to the above description.

[0022] Further features and advantages of the invention are the subject of the following description and the drawing of a preferred embodiment.

[0023] The drawing shows Fig. 1a a front view of a capsule with a capsule upper part and a capsule lower part in a non-joined state; Fig. 1b the Fig. 1a corresponding representation of the capsule in a fully assembled state; Fig. 2 a top view of an embodiment of a capsule filling machine; Fig. 3 a partially sectioned perspective view of a conveyor device of the capsule filling machine according to Fig. 2 ; Fig. 4 a sectional view of the conveyor along a part of a Fig. 3 sectional plane designated IV; Fig. 5 a sectional, perspective view of the conveyor and a dosing device with a load cell along a Fig. 2 with section plane marked V - V; Fig. 6 a perspective view - corresponding to a Fig. 2 direction of view marked VI - a station of the capsule filling machine according to Fig. 2 for closing and transporting a capsule; Fig. 7 a sectional view of the station according to Fig. 6 along a Fig. 2 section plane marked VII - VII; and Fig. 8 to 16 a Fig. 7 Enlarged view of the section marked VIII during successive phases of closure and removal of a capsule.

[0024] The directions "up" and "down" are defined relative to the direction of gravity.

[0025] An embodiment of a capsule filling machine 10, designated overall by the reference numeral 10, serves for filling and closing capsules 12, preferably hard capsules, in particular gelatin capsules.

[0026] Fig. 1a und 1b show, by way of example, a capsule 12 in a non-joined and in a fully joined state.

[0027] The capsule 12 comprises a rotationally symmetrical capsule upper part 14 and a rotationally symmetrical capsule lower part 16. An inner diameter 18 of the capsule upper part 14 is slightly larger than an outer diameter 20 of the capsule lower part 16. The capsule upper part 14 has a circular edge 22 facing the capsule lower part 16. The capsule lower part has a circular edge 24 facing the capsule upper part.

[0028] In an initial state and at the beginning of a joining process, the capsule upper part 14 and the capsule lower part 16 are arranged such that the respective edges 22 and 24 are arranged at the same height along a joining axis 26. In order to close the capsule 12, the capsule lower part can be pushed into the capsule upper part along the joining axis, wherein the distance from the initial state to the complete joining of the capsule 12 is referred to as the joining path 27. A length 28 of the completely joined capsule 12 extends parallel to the joining axis 26. In a supply - not shown in the drawing - of a capsule filling machine 10 (see Fig. 2 ) a plurality of capsules 12 are held in a nested but not fully joined state.

[0029] The capsule filling machine 10 comprises a horizontal work surface 30 on which a conveyor 32 and a plurality of work stations 80, 82, 86 are arranged. The conveyor 32 is disc-shaped and rotatably driven about a conveyor rotation axis 34, wherein a conveyor drive 36 for driving the conveyor 32 is arranged below the work surface 30. The conveyor 32 has receptacles 40 arranged regularly along its edge 38 for receiving the capsules 12 or the capsule parts 14, 16. The conveyor 32 transports the capsules 12 or the capsule parts 14, 16 between the work stations 80, 82, 86, wherein a conveying area 42 of the conveyor 32 is defined by a space in which the capsules 12 or capsule parts 14, 16 move during transport by the conveyor 32.

[0030] The receptacles 40 for receiving the capsules 12 are formed by separate capsule upper part receptacles 44 and capsule lower part receptacles 46 which can be inserted into the conveyor device 32, compare Fig. 3 The capsule base receptacle 46 is inserted into a capsule base receptacle carrier 48. The capsule base receptacle carrier 48 is guided in a control cam 50 that runs eccentrically with respect to the conveyor device rotation axis 34 and can thus be displaced radially outward and radially inward during a rotational movement of the conveyor device 32. This makes it possible to radially free the capsule base receptacle 46, together with the capsule base 16, from the capsule top receptacle 44 or the capsule top 14.

[0031] A holding area 54 is defined along a longitudinal axis 52 of the capsule upper part receptacle 44, compare Fig. 4 The holding area 54 is defined by an upper side 56 of the conveyor device 32 and an internal annular projection 58. A capsule upper part 14 received in the holding area 54 is supported by its edge 22 on the projection 58 and can thus be held in the capsule upper part receptacle 44.

[0032] The holding region 54 borders, in the direction of the capsule base support 48, a guide region 60 which extends from the annular projection 58 to a lower end 62 of the capsule top support 44. An inner diameter 64 of the guide region 60 is matched to the outer diameter 20 of the capsule base 16 and is preferably slightly larger.

[0033] Preferably, the holding region 54 and / or the guide region 60 have a slotted wall 66. Furthermore, the capsule upper part receptacle 44 has an opening 68 at the lower end 62.

[0034] The capsule base receptacle 46 has a receiving space 70 for receiving the capsule base 16. The capsule base 16 is supported at a tapered end 72 of the receiving space 70 and held in the receiving space 70. At the tapered end 72, the capsule base receptacle and the capsule base receptacle carrier each have an opening 74, 76.

[0035] When the capsule lower part holder carrier 48 is fully inserted radially inward, the longitudinal axis 52 of the capsule upper part holder 44 and a longitudinal axis 78 of the capsule lower part holder 46 are aligned with one another.

[0036] The capsules 12 held in the supply are fed to the receptacles 40 of the conveyor device 32 by means of a feed station 80, see Fig. 2 . The conveying device 32 then comes to a standstill. The capsules 12 are aligned in the feed station 80 in a manner known per se such that the capsule lower part 16 points in the direction of the conveying area 42 and the joining axis 26 of the capsule 12 is aligned with the longitudinal axes 52, 72 of the capsule upper part receptacle 44 and the capsule lower part receptacle 46. In an initial state, the received (slid into one another but not completely joined) capsule 12 is held in the holding area 54 of the capsule upper part receptacle 44. The capsule parts 14, 16 are then separated from one another in a manner known per se, for example by means of negative pressure, so that the capsule upper part 14 remains in the capsule upper part receptacle 44 and the capsule lower part 16 is received in the capsule lower part receptacle 46.

[0037] By rotating the conveyor device 32 about the conveyor rotation axis 34, the capsule parts 14, 16 are transported to a filling station 82. During transport, the capsule base receiving carrier 48 is displaced radially outwards and thus the capsule base 16 is released, whereby the capsule base 16 can be filled with a filling material by a dosing device 83, see Fig. 5 .

[0038] The filling station 82 can include a load cell 84. By lowering the conveyor 32—using a lifting / lowering drive (not shown)—along the conveyor rotation axis 34, the capsule base holder 46 can be placed on the load cell 84 and released from the capsule base holder carrier 48. This ensures precise control and monitoring of the filling of the capsule base 16 with the filling material. It is possible for the capsule filling machine 10 to include several filling stations 82 and / or dosing devices 83 and / or load cells 84. After filling the capsule base 16, the capsule parts 14, 16 are transported by rotation of the conveyor 32 to a station 86 for closing and removal, see Fig. 2 During transport, the capsule base support carrier 48 is returned to its radially inwardly inserted initial position by means of the control cam 50.

[0039] The station 86 for closing and transporting comprises a closing device 88 with a closing element 90 arranged below the conveyor device 32, see Fig. 6 and Fig. 7 The closing element 90 is, for example, stamp-shaped and has a closing surface 92 at a free end. The closing element 90 is drivable by means of a closing drive 94. The closing element is movable along a closing axis 96 and parallel to the longitudinal axes 52, 72 of the capsule upper part receptacle 44 and the capsule lower part receptacle 46, specifically between an initial position in which the closing surface 92 is arranged below the conveying area 42 of the conveying device 32, and actuating positions in which the closing surface 92 is arranged within and / or above the conveying area 42.

[0040] The closing device 88 further comprises a counterholder 98 arranged above the conveying device 32, which is designed, for example, in the shape of a stamp and has a counterface 100 at a free end. The counterholder 98 can be driven by a counterholder drive 102 along the longitudinal axes 52, 72 of the capsule upper part receptacle 44 and the capsule lower part receptacle 46. In an initial state, the counterface 100 of the counterholder 98 is arranged in a stop region 104 of the closing device 88. The stop region 104 is arranged above the conveying region 42 and at a distance from it.

[0041] A removal sleeve 106 is provided for removing a fully assembled capsule 12. The removal sleeve 106 can receive and hold a fully assembled capsule 12. The removal sleeve 106 is arranged in particular in a removal area 108, which is bounded at the bottom by the conveying area 42 and at the top by the stop area 104. A height 109 of the removal area 108 preferably corresponds to the length 28 of a filled and fully assembled capsule 12.

[0042] The removal sleeve 106 is part of a transport element 110 of a removal device 112, see Fig. 6 The transport element 110 can be driven by a transport drive 114 about a transport element axis 116, whereby a fully assembled capsule 12 held in the removal sleeve 106 can be removed from the removal area 108.

[0043] The removal device 112 preferably comprises a first ejection station 118 and a second ejection station 120 with respective ejection elements 122, whereby the removal device 112 can be used as a (good / bad) sorting device. A capsule 12 received in the removal sleeve 106 can be transported by the transport element 110 to the respective ejection stations 118, 120. A correctly filled and assembled capsule 12 is removed from the removal sleeve 106 by the ejection element 122 at the first ejection station 118; an incorrectly filled and / or assembled capsule 12 is removed at the second ejection station 120.

[0044] In the Fig. 8 bis 16 successive phases of closing and removing a capsule 12 are shown.

[0045] In an initial state (compare Fig. 8 ) a receptacle 40 of the conveyor device 32 is arranged in the station 86 for closing and removal, wherein a capsule upper part 14 is arranged in the capsule upper part receptacle 44 and a capsule lower part 16 filled with filling material is arranged in the capsule lower part receptacle 46.

[0046] Starting from this initial state, the conveyor 32 is lowered parallel to the conveyor rotation axis 34 using the lifting / lowering drive (see Fig. 9 , starting from Fig. 8 ). By lowering the conveyor device 32, the capsule base holder 46 is placed on a support element 124 of the station 86 and displaced upward relative to the capsule base holder carrier 48. This results in a positive contact between an upper side 126 of the capsule base holder 46 and an underside 128 of the capsule top holder 44, which is preferably accompanied by mutual centering.

[0047] The closing surface 92 of the closing element 90 is arranged in a starting position at a distance from the capsule lower part 16. In a next step, the counter-holder 98 is lowered downwards out of the stop region 104 so that the counter-holder 98 penetrates the removal sleeve 106 arranged in the removal region 108 (see Fig. 10 ). The movement of the counter-holder 98 is stopped when the counter-holder 98 contacts an upper side 130 of the capsule upper part 14 with its counter surface 100.

[0048] Subsequently, the capsule lower part 16 is moved by a movement of the closing element 90 in the direction of the capsule upper part 14, wherein the closing surface 92 contacts a bottom side 132 of the capsule lower part 16 (compare Fig. 11 ). The capsule lower part 16 penetrates the guide area 60 of the capsule upper part receptacle 44 and is guided in the guide area 60. When the capsule lower part 16 reaches the holding area 54, the edges 22, 24 of the capsule parts 14, 16 are arranged at the same height. From there, the actual joining process begins, in which the capsule lower part 16 is pushed into the capsule upper part 14 along the joining path 27. During the joining process, the capsule upper part 14 is subjected to a force by means of the counter surface 100 of the counterholder 98, which force is directed opposite to the direction of movement of the closing element 90.

[0049] The force exerted by the counterholder 98 on the capsule upper part 14 can be adjusted independently of the position of the counterholder 98 and, in particular, can be constant, for example, by the effect of a weight force of the counterholder 98 and / or by applying a constant drive force, generated pneumatically, for example, to the counterholder 98. A pressure relief valve can be used to equalize such a drive force.

[0050] With the start of the joining process, the counterholder 98 is again moved (particularly passively) upwards in the direction of the stop area 104, while the closing element 90 continues its upward movement (compare Fig. 12 ). The counterholder 98 and the closing element 90 remain in contact with the respective capsule parts 14, 16 during their respective movements, whereby the now pre-assembled capsule 12 is also moved upwards and reaches the removal area 108 or the removal sleeve 106.

[0051] The movement of the counter-holder 98 ends when the counter-holder 98 is again arranged in its starting position in the stop area 104 (compare Fig. 13 ). The closing element 90 moves further upwards - while the counter-holder 98 is already arranged again in the stop area 104 and is stationary - so that for a final part of the joining path 27 the capsule lower part 16 is pushed into the capsule upper part 14 until the capsule 12 is completely joined and closed.

[0052] The fully assembled capsule 12 is held in the removal sleeve 106 (compare Fig. 14 ).

[0053] The closing element 90 is then moved back out of the conveying area 42 into its initial position (see Fig. 14 starting from Fig. 13 ).

[0054] From the condition according to Fig. 14 Starting from this, the conveyor device 32 is raised parallel to the conveyor device rotation axis 34 (compare Fig. 15 , starting from Fig. 14 ).

[0055] By a subsequent rotation of the transport element 110, the capsule 12 held in the removal sleeve 106 is removed from the removal area 108 and transported further, compare Fig. 16 , now without capsule 12, and Fig. 6 .

[0056] As an alternative to the method described above, it is also possible for the counterholder 98 to remain in its position in the stop region 104, and for the countersurface 100 of the counterholder 98 to contact the capsule upper part 14 only for the final part of the joining path 27. In this case, the final part of the joining process also only takes place in the removal sleeve 106 or in the removal region 108.
