Abstract
Description
Technical field of the invention
[0001] The invention relates to a tilt latch, also called a cross latch or pivot latch, with the features according to claim 1 and the preferred embodiments according to claims 2 to 9, as well as to a lock equipped therewith, or to a door or window equipped therewith. The invention further relates to a method for operating such a door or window.
[0002] A tilt latch is a special type of lock latch. Conventional tilt latches are characterized by the fact that they always tilt away after the lock is released and that they can be easily opened when subjected to a load. In contrast, the tilt latch according to the invention is distinguished by the fact that the latch head does not tilt when the door is unlocked, so that the door cannot be opened by pushing against it, but remains fixed in the rest position, as was previously only known from "conventional" lock latches. To tilt the latch head, a deliberate actuation is required, be it by the handle, the key, or another actuating device. This ensures that the door remains closed even when unlocked, as long as no one intends to open the door. The invention also relates to a door lock, in particular a panic lock, which has a tilt latch according to the invention, and to a method for operating this door lock. State of the art
[0003] A latch is a component of a lock that ensures that the door engages in a designated recess on the strike plate when closed, thus locking it. The latch, which engages in the strike plate, holds and positions the door in the frame. The latch typically consists of a metal, wedge-shaped latch head that engages in the recess in the strike plate of the door or frame, thus locking the door.
[0004] When the door is closed, the strike plate pushes the latch back into the lock via the inclined surface of the latch head against the resistance of a latch spring. The latch is then expelled by the latch spring into the designated recess in the strike plate, keeping the door closed. By operating the handle or when the key or appropriate mechanism opens the lock, the latch is retracted into the lock ("retracted latch position"), and the door can be opened.
[0005] As a rule, the lock latch is held in the recess in the strike plate by a latch spring ("closed rest position", "locked position").
[0006] A tilt latch is a special type of lock latch that allows a door to be opened easily when subjected to a preload. This situation can arise, for example, when the door warps due to temperature differences, the strike plates are poorly adjusted, or the door is subjected to a preload in an emergency by escaping persons. Unlike a standard lock latch, the tilt latch does not need to be retracted; instead, the tilt mechanism is released when the door is unlocked or while the lock is in the unlocked position. Thus, the lock latch is released when the door is in the open position.
[0007] A major disadvantage is that the tilt latch remains unlocked when the lock is unlocked. This allows the door to be simply pushed open without having to operate a door handle or key. Sometimes even a strong gust of wind is enough to open the door. A combination with an electronic door opener that controls access via the latch is also not possible. This is because the lock must be unlocked either electronically or manually during daily use, which, however, also unlocks the tilt mechanism, allowing the door to be opened even without the door opener being unlocked. With tilt latches, the strike plate must also be adjusted very precisely. Furthermore, doors with tilt latches are very loud when closing. Summary of the invention
[0008] The object of the invention is to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art, i.e., to provide a lock latch, in particular a tilt latch, that does not remain released when the door lock is unlocked, but at the same time allows a door equipped therewith to be opened under preload with little force. This was previously unknown in the prior art.
[0009] This task is solved by a tilt latch for a door lock comprising a tiltable latch head and a blocking element, wherein the latch head is switchable between a blocking position and a release position, wherein the latch head has first latching means on the side facing the blocking element and the blocking element has complementary second latching means on the side facing the latch head, wherein the first and second latching means enter into a latching connection in the blocking position of the latch head, and wherein in the release position of the latch head the first and second latching means are released from one another and the latch head is tilted.
[0010] Any type of geometry is conceivable for the first and second locking means that makes it possible to create a locking connection between the first and second locking means and thus to hold the latch head in the locked position.
[0011] In a preferred embodiment of the tilt latch according to the invention, the locking connection between the first and second locking means is positively locking. In a further preferred embodiment of the tilt latch according to the invention, one of the two locking means is a recess, in particular a U-shaped recess, and the other of the two locking means is a projection adapted thereto, in particular a lug. Preferably, the second locking means is a recess, in particular a U-shaped recess, and the first locking means is a projection adapted thereto, in particular a lug.
[0012] In a further preferred embodiment, the two locking means are located centrally on the trap head and on the blocking element, i.e. symmetrically in the center of the trap head or the blocking element or symmetrically to the axis of the trap stem.
[0013] The latch head can also be equipped with appropriate damping elements to further optimize the sound when closing a door equipped with them. The damping elements are preferably made of plastic, particularly thermoplastics with high rigidity, low friction coefficients, and good dimensional stability, such as polyoxymethylene.
[0014] The latch head and the blocking element are preferably arranged in such a way that translational guidance of both is possible. These can be longitudinal guides, for example. The guidance can be provided by a pin attached to the blocking element in a groove, an elongated hole, or a bore.
[0015] In one embodiment, the trap head and the blocking element are attached to a trap shaft.
[0016] In another embodiment, the trap head and the blocking element are attached to a trap stem.
[0017] In a particularly preferred embodiment, the tilt trap also comprises a carriage guided in a guide sleeve so as to be translationally movable, wherein a trap trunk is mounted in the carriage, wherein the trap trunk is connected to a trap head, wherein a blocking element is arranged on the trap trunk, and wherein the trap trunk has a first return spring between the carriage and the blocking element.
[0018] The latch head's tilt direction is adjustable. Depending on whether a DIN-L or DIN-R lock is installed, the latch head tilts either to the right or left, i.e., in the direction of the applied holding force. This movement of the latch head can also be described as rotation around an axis, or as pivoting or turning away.
[0019] In a further preferred embodiment of the tilt latch according to the invention, a second return spring is attached to the latch stem, which spring-loads the latch head back into the locked position, i.e., the rest position. Instead of this return spring, another element could also be used to facilitate this, e.g., an elastic molded part made of rubber or an elastic plastic.
[0020] Any type of spring element can be used independently for the first and second return springs, for example a linear spring, torsion spring, coil spring, leg spring or torsion spring.
[0021] In another preferred embodiment, the latch stem is connected to the latch head via a cylindrical pin and a tilting joint. Any other type of mechanical fastening element that allows rotation around an axis, such as screws, sleeves, or rivets, would be possible.
[0022] In a special embodiment, the blocking element is connected to a latch lever. Thus, the blocking element can be reset by moving the latch lever. In a preferred embodiment, the latch lever has a latch spring and a latch stop.
[0023] The trap spring can be any type of spring element, for example a linear spring, torsion spring, coil spring, leg spring or torsion spring.
[0024] In this preferred embodiment, the latch lever can be brought into a first position with a first force F1 and into a second position with a second force F2, wherein F2 is greater than F1, wherein in the first position of the latch lever the latch head is in the locked position, and wherein in the second position of the latch lever the latch head can reach the release position, provided that the prerequisites for this are met.
[0025] The force F1 would, for example, be exerted by a user of a door equipped with the tilt latch according to the invention when the handle is operated when the door is open and unlocked, or when a slight preload is exerted when the door is unlocked and closed, e.g. when the door is closed and the handle is operated.
[0026] The force F2 would, for example, be exerted by a user of a door equipped with the tilt latch according to the invention when he operates the handle and an additional force is added, for example if the door warps due to temperature differences, the strike plates are poorly adjusted or the door is subjected to a preload by escaping persons in an emergency.
[0027] Instead of a latch lever, other actuating elements could be used to move the latch head or the carriage or the blocking element or the latch stem.
[0028] This ensures that when a lock is unlocked, the tilt latch remains in the locked position and is only released, i.e., activated, upon further actuation. This makes it possible to operate a door lock equipped with the tilt latch according to the invention in conjunction with an electronic door opener, since the tilt latch is not simultaneously released when the lock is unlocked, as was previously the case.
[0029] The invention therefore also relates to a lock equipped with a tilt latch according to the invention, in particular a mortise lock, as well as a door or window equipped therewith. The lock can be used for any leaf of a door or window. The tilt latch according to the invention can be installed not only in the lock case, but also in a secondary case and / or in a top locking mechanism of a door or window.
[0030] In a preferred embodiment of a door according to the invention, the tilt latch is accommodated in the lock case.
[0031] A further subject of the invention is a method for operating a lock equipped with a tilt latch according to the invention, wherein the lock comprises a bolt movably guided in the lock case and a locking device arranged in the lock case, wherein the bolt is moved between an open position and a closed position by actuating the locking device, characterized in that the tilt latch is arranged such that the latch head of the tilt latch is in the locked position when the bolt is in the open position and can be brought into the release position by actuating an actuating device.
[0032] In a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the tilt latch is accommodated in the lock case. In a particularly preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the tilt latch accommodated in the lock case is a tilt latch whose blocking element is connected to a latch lever, wherein the latch lever preferably has a latch spring and a latch stop. A method is very particularly preferred in which the latch lever of the tilt latch accommodated in the lock case can be brought into a first position with a first force F1 and into a second position with a second force F2, wherein F2 is greater than F1, wherein in the first position of the latch lever the latch head is in the locked position, and wherein in the second position of the latch lever the latch head is in the released position.
[0033] The invention encompasses any combination of a preferred embodiment with any number of other (preferred) embodiments, even if these combinations are not explicitly mentioned. Brief description of the drawings
[0034] The following figures show several views of a preferred embodiment of the inventive tilt latch for a right-closing door. Of course, the invention is not limited to this embodiment. Furthermore, the inventive tilt latch is suitable for both right- and left-closing doors. The tilt latch would also be suitable for garage doors or for doors that swing upwards. Fig. 9shows a section of a door or window according to the invention in side view with the tilt latch according to the invention located in a lock case according to Figure 1 The tilt latch is in the locked position. The latch head is extended from the face plate. Fig. 10 shows a section of a door or window according to the invention in side view with the tilt latch according to the invention located in a lock case according to Figure 1 The tilt latch is still in the locked position. The latch head is retracted into the lock case. Preferred embodiments of the invention
[0035] Fig. 1 shows a preferred embodiment of the inventive tilt latch 1 with the associated latch lever 7 in an oblique side view on the left. The tilt latch is in the locked position. This is the case when a door equipped with it is closed.
[0036] In the Figure 1In the tilting latch shown, a latch shaft 5 is mounted in the carriage 3, which is guided so as to be translationally movable in a guide sleeve 4. This latch shaft 5 is connected to the tiltable latch head 13 via a cylindrical pin 10 as a tilting joint 9. The blocking element 11 is arranged on the latch shaft 5 opposite the latch head 13. The latch shaft 5 has a first return spring 12 between the carriage 3 and the blocking element 11 and a second return spring 14 between the blocking element 11 and the latch head 13. The blocking element 11 is connected to a latch lever 7, wherein the latch lever 7 has a latch spring 6 and a latch stop 8. The latch lever 7 can be brought into a first position upon exertion of a first force F1, whereby the blocking element 11 is retracted in the direction of the carriage 3 and the guide sleeve 4. The blocking element 11 remains locked to the latch head 13.If a greater force F2 is exerted on the latch lever, the latch lever 7 is brought into a second position, whereby the blocking element 11 is pulled out of the locking connection with the latch head 13, and thereby the locking connection is released, and the latch head 13 tilts.
[0037] Figure 2 shows the tilt trap 1 to Figure 1 From above. The first and second locking means 18, 19 are particularly clearly visible here. It can be seen that the latch head 13 has a lug on the side facing the blocking element as the first locking means 18, and the blocking element 11 has a corresponding recess on the side facing the latch head as the complementary second locking means 19. In the locked position of the latch head 13 shown here, the lug 18 and the recess 19 form a positive locking connection. In the release position of the latch head 13, the lug 18 and the recess 19 would be separated from each other, and the latch head 13 could tilt.
[0038] In Fig. 3 is the tipping trap 1 after Figure 1 shown in a side view from behind, whereby the coupling of the movement of the latch lever 7 with the movement of the blocking element 11 via a cylindrical pin 22 mounted in a guide 21 can be seen. The movement of the latch lever 7 is limited on the one hand by the guide 21 on the blocking element 11, and on the other hand by the stop on the latch stop 8 fastened in the lock case when the latch head 13 is retracted into the lock case (see Fig. 10 ).
[0039] Fig. 4 shows the tilt trap 1 to Figure 1 from the front, i.e. looking at face plate 2. Face plate 2 has a corresponding recess through which the tilt latch can be extended.
[0040] Fig. 5 shows the tilt trap 1 to Figure 1 in side view left.
[0041] Fig. 6shows a tilt latch 1 according to the invention in the locked position (rest position) from below or from above, depending on whether the symmetrical tilt latch has been set to the left or right: The nose 18 on the latch head 13 is engaged with the recess 19 of the blocking element 11. In this position, the door can be closed or is already closed. The door is closed by pressing the blocking element 13 with the latch head 13 engaged therein through the strike plate in the direction of the slide 3 or guide sleeve 4 against the force of the latch spring 6 ( Fig. 7 ). As soon as the door is closed, the latch spring 6 pushes the blocking element 11 with the latch head 13 locked into it back into the Fig. 6 shown location.
[0042] Fig. 7shows the preferred embodiment of this tilt latch 1 in the retracted state from below or from above, depending on whether the symmetrical tilt latch has been set to the left or right, i.e. the latch head 13 is retracted into the door lock with the blocking element 11 locked. Here you can also see that the two locking means 18, 19 are located centrally on the latch head 13 and on the blocking element 11, i.e. symmetrically in the center of the latch head 13 or the blocking element 11 or symmetrically to the axis of the latch stem 5. The latch lever 7 has retracted the tilt latch 1, but the preload on the tilt latch was too low to trigger the tilting mechanism.
[0043] Fig. 8shows the preferred embodiment of this tilt latch 1 in the tilted state, i.e., in the activated state or in the release position, from below. The blocking element 11 was retracted by the latch lever 7; the preload on the tilt latch 1 was large enough to release the latch head 13 from engaging the blocking element 11 against the spring force of the return spring 12, and to bring the latch head 13 into the tilted position. In this position, the tilt latch 1 can be pushed back into the lock by the frame's strike plate. The door can be opened.
[0044] Fig. 9 and 10 show a section of a door or window according to the invention in side view with a tilt latch 1 according to the invention located, for example, in a lock case. The movement of the latch lever is limited by the latch stop 8 fastened in the lock case. In Fig. 9the tilt latch 1 is in the locked position: The latch head 13 is extended from the face plate 2. In Fig. 10 The tilt latch 1 is retracted and is still in the locked position. The latch head 13 is retracted into the lock case.
[0045] A further subject matter of the invention is a method for operating a lock 15, wherein the tilt latch 1 is located in the lock case 20 or in the secondary case 30 or in the top locking mechanism 40, wherein the lock comprises a bolt 60 which is movably guided in the lock case and a locking device 50 arranged in the lock case, wherein the bolt 60 is moved between an open position and a closed position by actuating the locking device 50, characterized in that the tilt latch 1 is arranged such that the latch head 13 of the tilt latch 1 is in the locked position when the bolt 50 is in the open position and can be brought into the release position by actuating an actuating device 70.
[0046] In a preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the tilt latch 1 is accommodated in the lock case 20. In a particularly preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, the tilt latch 1 accommodated in the lock case 20 is a tilt latch whose blocking element 11 is connected to a latch lever 7, wherein the latch lever 7 preferably has a latch spring 6 and a latch stop 8. A method is particularly preferred in which the latch lever of the tilt latch accommodated in the lock case can be brought into a first position with a first force F1, and in which the latch lever 7 can be brought into a second position with a second force F2, wherein F2 is greater than F1, wherein in the first position of the latch lever 7, the latch head 13 is in the locked position, and wherein in the second position of the latch lever 7, the latch head 13 is in the release position.
