Description

[0001] The present invention relates to an ironing board, in particular an ironing board having a part intended to receive an iron.

[0002] Conventionally, an ironing board comprises a top mounted on two leg elements, one end of at least one of the two leg elements being slidably mounted along at least one rail-forming spar, preferably two spars, fixed to the underside of the top. The sliding makes it possible to move the ironing board from a folded storage position, in which the leg elements are folded substantially parallel to the top, to a deployed use position, in which the top is arranged horizontally while being supported by the two leg elements, the end of the at least one leg element being in abutment against stop means, in particular teeth of a rack, to thus prevent sliding.A conventional ironing board also has an iron rest made of a different material than that covering the surface of the board, in particular a heat-resistant material, to rest the still-hot iron on, thus allowing the user to have their hands free.

[0003] Typically, an iron rest consists of a base made of stamped sheet metal or molded plastic and is attached by welding or clipping to a support, such as wire or bent tubing. This support is then attached to the iron plate or to an intermediate element under the iron plate. This arrangement has the disadvantage of being relatively rigid and complex to implement.

[0004] Also known from EP2484829A1 is an ironing board comprising a tray mounted to slide on two side members and an iron rest, the tray being made up of two parts, one of which can fold down onto the other. In the storage position, the two parts of the tray are superimposed on each other and slid under the iron rest, the two side members protruding from the tray on the side opposite the iron rest and not protruding from the tray on the side of the iron rest. In the deployed position of use, the iron rest is offset in height relative to the upper plane of the tray. This table suffers from the same problems as those indicated above, the structure being complex and the iron rest not being well supported, not resting directly on the side members.

[0005] Also known from EP0713938A1 is an ironing board comprising a box-shaped top, supported by two tubular elements, and two legs which can be folded against the top in the storage state and deployed at a distance from the top to support the assembly in the use state. The respective ends of the legs are independent of the two tubular elements, their folding being effected by free movement of the end of one of the legs along the lower surface of the top. This table suffers from the same problems as those indicated above, the structure being complex and, in the use position, the top and the iron rest not being well held by the legs, which are not functionally connected to the tubular elements.

[0006] The present invention aims to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art.

[0007] It relates to an ironing board according to claim 1, improvements being defined in the subclaims.

[0008] This eliminates the need for a wire or curved tube support specific to each iron rest, which must also be mounted on or under the plate specifically to support the iron rest. This results in a more rigid, more compact, easier to implement assembly that is identical for different types of iron rest.

[0009] Preferably, the ironing board has two side members, each with a section projecting from the board, thus improving the stability of the assembly.

[0010] According to a favorable embodiment, two legs are provided and the end of the other of the two legs is fixed to the section of the at least one side member projecting from the tabletop, to enlarge the pivoting range and thus allow a wider height adjustment range for the ironing board, also making the table more compact.

[0011] According to another equally favorable embodiment, two legs are provided and the end of the other of the two legs is fixed to the section of the at least one side member which does not project from the platform.

[0012] Preferably, the section of each side member projecting from the plate has a length substantially equal to the width of the iron rest, in particular a length just less than the width of the iron rest. The iron rest is thus supported over its entire longitudinal direction.

[0013] Preferably, each spar has at least one main section having a substantially U-, C- or S-shaped cross-section.

[0014] Preferably, the sliding mounted end of the one leg comprises two rollers each rolling in a respective spar so as to move longitudinally while being guided in the spar, the two rollers being integral in translation while being connected by an axis.

[0015] The ironing board may include a rack having a plurality of teeth defining therebetween hollow spaces for receiving the shaft so as to prevent movement of the sliding end of the leg member.

[0016] The iron rest can be fixed by screwing, clipping, welding, riveting or similar to the side members.

[0017] The iron rest can be made of stamped sheet metal, molded plastic, or any other heat-resistant material that gives the iron rest sufficient rigidity to support an iron or steam generator.

[0018] Preferably, the at least one spar is made of metal, in particular steel or aluminum, plastic, wood or other similar material.

[0019] Preferably, the tray is a single piece, in particular does not have a part that folds onto the rest of the tray.

[0020] Preferably, the ironing board can move between a folded storage position, in which the at least one leg element is folded substantially parallel to the board, and a deployed use position, in which the board is arranged horizontally while being supported by the at least one leg element, and said one section of the at least one side member projects from the edge of the board and the iron rest is supported on the projecting section in the deployed use position and / or in the storage position.

[0021] Preferably, the iron rest has a lower face in direct contact with the upper face of the at least one spar.

[0022] Preferably, the top face of the iron rest is level with the top face of the tabletop.

[0023] By way of example, a preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the drawings, in which:

[0024] there figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of an ironing board according to the invention;

[0025] there figure 2 is a perspective view of the ironing board of the figure 1 before fixing the iron rest;

[0026] there figure 3 is a perspective view of the ironing board of the figure 1 mounted, the tray and iron rest being shown transparent, and

[0027] there figure 4 is a perspective view of an ironing board according to another embodiment, the board and the iron rest being shown transparent.

[0028] The ironing board comprises a tray 1 of the classic shape of an ironing board, substantially rectangular and flared towards the front, having a curved front edge and a straight rear edge wider than the front edge. Preferably, the tray 1 is in one piece, and in particular does not comprise a part that can be folded onto the rest of the tray.

[0029] Two parallel horizontal side members 2 and 3 are fixed by screws to the lower face of the platform 1, so as to be secured to it, that is to say in particular without any mutual sliding between the side members 2, 3 and the platform 1 being able to take place. The platform 1 is supported by two leg-forming elements 4 and 5. Each leg-forming element 4 and 5 consists of two feet connected by a spacer and two parallel tubes which are connected to each other at their lower end by the spacer and at their upper end by a respective horizontal rod 6 and 7. The rod 6 is pivotally mounted between the two side members. A handle 8 is mounted integral with the horizontal rod 6 and projecting therefrom perpendicularly, and an axle 9 is mounted at the upper end of the two parallel tubes of the leg-forming element 4, each end of the axle 9 comprising a caster 10.

[0030] Each longitudinal member 2 and 3 comprises a respective section, 2a and 3a, projecting from the plate 1 by its rear edge, and a respective section, 2b and 3b, of C-shaped cross-section fixed to the lower surface of the plate 1. Each of the sections 2b and 3b of C-shaped cross-section forms a rail for a respective caster 10 allowing sliding of the axis 9 along these two rails 2b and 3b. Thus, when the axis 9 slides to the end of the longitudinal members 2 and 3 located on the side of the front edge of the plate 1, the element 4 forming the leg is substantially parallel to the plate 1, as is the element 5 forming the leg, the element 5 forming the leg being mounted integral in rotation with the rod 7 which is pivotally mounted to the projecting sections 2a and 3a without the possibility of sliding.

[0031] According to another embodiment shown in the figure 4, the rod 7 is pivotally mounted on the sections 2b and 3b of the side members which do not protrude without the possibility of sliding.

[0032] A rack 11, comprising a plurality of teeth defining between them hollow spaces intended to receive the axis 9, is mounted integral with the rod 6. When the axis 9 is received in one of the hollow spaces of the rack, the rack blocks the movement of the rollers 10 in the side members 2 and 3 and therefore prevents the pivoting of the legs 4 and 5. Depending on the hollow space in which the axis 9 is positioned, the height of the position of the ironing board can be adjusted. The rack 11 is pivoted by the user by the lever 8 integral in rotation with the rack 11 by the rod 6. A spring 12 tends to return the lever 8 when the user releases it.

[0033] An iron rest 13 is fixed on the sections 2a and 3a projecting from the rear edge of the board 1. The iron rest has a length, in the longitudinal direction of the ironing board, substantially equal to the length of the sections 2a and 3a projecting from the rear edge of the board 1 and a width, in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the ironing board, substantially equal to the width of the rear edge of the ironing board. The iron rest 13 has a rim surrounding a central part intended to receive an iron.

[0034] According to one embodiment, the iron rest 13 is made of stamped sheet metal.

[0035] According to another embodiment, the iron rest 13 is made of a molded plastic material or any other heat-resistant material and gives the iron rest sufficient rigidity to support an iron or a steam generator.

[0036] According to one embodiment, the iron rest 13 is screwed, riveted, clipped, welded or similar to the sections 2a and 3a projecting from the rear edge of the plate 1.

[0037] According to another embodiment, the iron rest 13 is riveted to the sections 2a and 3a projecting from the rear edge of the plate 1. 1
