Description

[0001] Device and method for the energy cell, in particular battery cell, manufacturing industry for wrapping a stack

[0002] The present invention relates to a device for the energy cell, in particular battery cell, manufacturing industry for wrapping a stack comprising a plurality of segments and a material web, in particular a separator web. The device is designed to form a stack with segments arranged in folds of the material web and to wrap the same material web, in particular a separator web, around the stack. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for the energy cell, in particular battery cell, manufacturing industry for wrapping a stack comprising a plurality of segments and a material web, in particular a separator web.

[0003] It is known in principle from the prior art to use energy cells or energy storage devices in motor vehicles, other land vehicles, ships, aircraft or even in stationary systems in the form of battery cells or fuel cells, in which very large amounts of energy can be stored over longer periods of time. For this purpose, such energy cells have a structure consisting of a large number of segments stacked to form a stack, between which another material is arranged. The segments can be designed, for example, as electrode sheets, so that anode and cathode sheets alternate one after the other in the stack. In such a case, a layer of a material web or separator web is arranged between two adjacent electrode sheets. According to a first variant, the separators can be arranged between the electrodes in the form of individual separator sheets or material sheets.According to a second variant, it is also known to place the separator in the form of a material web by forming a Z-shaped folding geometry, i.e. by a so-called Z-fold, around the segments.

[0004] To form the Z-fold, it is generally known from the prior art to form the cell stack on a stacking table that is mounted so that it can be moved horizontally. In a first deposit position, an anode sheet is placed on a separator sheet stretched over the stacking table. By moving the stacking table horizontally to a second deposit position, the separator sheet is placed or folded around the deposited anode sheet. Subsequently, in the second deposit position, a cathode sheet is placed on the separator sheet. By moving the stacking table horizontally back to the first deposit position, the separator sheet is placed or folded around the cathode sheet so that another anode sheet can be placed on it once the first deposit position has been reached. This process is repeated until the desired cell stack height is reached, i.e. the cell stack is complete. In this way, the Z-fold mentioned above can be realized in production. Furthermore, it is known that the finished stack is wrapped with the same material web or separator web, which can, however, negatively impact the stack's production rate.

[0005] It is an object of the present application to provide an improved device for the energy cell, in particular battery cell, manufacturing industry for wrapping a stack comprising a plurality of segments and a material web, as well as to specify a correspondingly improved method.

[0006] The object is achieved by the features of the independent claims. Further preferred embodiments of the invention can be found in the dependent claims, the figures, and the associated description.

[0007] To achieve the object of the invention, a device is proposed for the energy cell, in particular battery cell, manufacturing industry for wrapping a stack comprising a plurality of segments and a material web, in particular a separator web. The device is designed to form a stack with segments arranged in folds of the material web and to wrap the same material web, in particular a separator web, around the stack. It is proposed that the device comprise a stacking table with a stacking position on which the stack can be formed, and a winding device with a winding position, wherein at the winding position the stack can be wrapped with the same, continuous material web, in particular a separator web.It is further proposed that the device is designed to move the stack from the stacking position into the winding position, wherein the material web is pulled out of a material web feed device by the movement of the stack from the stacking position in the direction of the winding position to form a material web trailer, and to wrap the stack with the material web trailer of the material web in the winding position, wherein a separating device is provided which is designed to separate the material web trailer from the material web of the material web feed device, so that the material web trailer has a free end. With the proposed device, it is possible that the material web on the stacking table no longer needs to be moved as soon as sufficient extraction of the material web or separator web beyond the stacking position has been achieved by moving the stack towards the winding position or even by moving the stack to the winding position. The material web can therefore remain in position on the stacking table after extraction, so that after separation, no movement of the material web relative to the stacking table is necessary until the new stack is completely built up. A new stack is started by depositing a segment, for example an anode or cathode sheet, on the material web. The stacking table is preferably vertically movable for this purpose. The stacking table preferably moves downward during stack formation and, after a completed stack has been removed, returns to its starting position in contact with the material web. Accordingly, even after sufficient extension to form the web tail, no realignment of the material web on the stacking table is necessary, so that depositing of the first segment of the stack can begin. Furthermore, it is also not necessary to retract the material web on the stacking table. Preferably, immediately after the web tail is formed, it is possible to either first separate the material web or to begin the subsequent stacking process before the material web is separated.

[0008] The stacking process can thus be resumed very quickly after a very short interruption, increasing the production rate in the manufacture of energy cells, especially battery cells, such as Li-ion batteries. Wrapping the stack with the same continuous, i.e., single-piece, material web can thus be performed while the stacking process for the next stack has already restarted. This not only increases throughput but also allows for more processing time to be allocated to the wrapping process, thus achieving higher quality.

[0009] Preferably, the material web is separated before the first fold is formed on the first deposited segment. According to an advantageous embodiment, the material web is separated before the start of the formation of a further stack by depositing a first segment. By separating the material web before the first fold, it can be achieved that the separating device can be arranged very close to the stacking table, wherein at the same time a collision of the separating device during separation with other parts of the device for depositing the segments and in particular a material web feed device for forming the first fold of the material web can be avoided. The separating device is preferably arranged between the stacking position and the winding position.

[0010] The length of the material web intended for wrapping is preferably defined by the distance from the stacking position to the winding position, which forms the material web trailer, and the position of the separating line of the separating device. In alternative advantageous embodiments, the length of the material web trailer can be set shorter if the stack is moved to an intermediate position before the winding position and the material web is separated at the resulting length. In advantageous embodiments, the device comprises a trailer holding device configured to hold the material web trailer and / or the free end of the material web trailer by means of vacuum.

[0011] The tensioning holding device is preferably designed in the form of a suction bar which can suck and fix the material web and / or the material web tensioning along a transverse line of the material web and / or the material web tensioning.

[0012] In a preferred embodiment, the post-tensioning holding device is configured to hold the material web by means of negative pressure prior to separation by the separating device. This allows a defined positioning of the post-tensioning holding device relative to the material web post-tensioner to be achieved, so that after the material web is separated, the free end of the material web post-tensioner can be held directly by the post-tensioning holding device by means of negative pressure. The post-tensioning holding device is preferably configured to hold the material web post-tensioner before and after the material web is separated, and to hold the free end of the material web post-tensioner after separation.

[0013] An uncontrolled and freely moving free end of the web end is therefore avoided directly during the formation of the free end. This allows, for example, a very long web end between the free end and the stack without causing process uncertainties due to a loose web. The web can therefore be separated very close to the stacking table. It is therefore possible, for example, to form the web end in a length range corresponding to the distance from the stacking position and the associated separation line to the winding position and use it for winding in a controlled manner.

[0014] The material web trailing edge is preferably separated between the trailing edge holding device and the stacking table, so that the separating device is preferably arranged between the stacking table and the trailing edge holding device. The separating device is preferably arranged in a fixed position between the stacking position and the winding position, wherein the separating device is simultaneously vertically movable to carry out the separating process, so that the moving mass is reduced and a cable trailing edge for power and data transmission can be dispensed with. In alternative embodiments, the separating device can be attached to the trailing edge holding device. In further alternative embodiments, the separating device can be attached to the stacking table or to an element above the stacking table.

[0015] The stacking table preferably comprises a suction surface designed to hold the material web by means of negative pressure. Accordingly, the material web can be temporarily fixed on the stacking table, which is advantageous after the material web trailer has been pulled out and before the material web is separated. Therefore, in addition to the trailer holding device, the material web trailer can also be held by the stacking table, so that the material web can be separated by the separating device if the material web is held on both sides of the separating line. In this way, sufficient tension in the material web can be maintained during the separation of the material web. Furthermore, the suction surface on the stacking table can prevent the material web from slipping on the stacking table. The position of the material web on the stacking table is therefore fixed. The material web can therefore preferably be secured to the stacking table by the suction surface before and after separation by means of negative pressure. The proposed device is preferably configured so that the material web is secured to the stacking table between the operating state immediately before the material web is separated and the formation of the free end of the material web trailer until the finished stack moves toward the winding device. Therefore, in this advantageous embodiment, there is no movement of the material web relative to the stacking table after the material web is separated until the end of stacking.

[0016] According to an advantageous embodiment, it is proposed that the post-tensioning holding device and / or the winding device are configured to move the free end of the material web trailer and the winding position toward each other during wrapping with the material web trailer of the stack. In preferred embodiments, the winding device is stationary, and only the post-tensioning holding device is moved toward the winding device.

[0017] Preferably, the post-tensioning holding device is configured to move the free end of the material web trailer towards the winding position at a constant web tension during winding. The web tension can therefore be adapted to the requirements of the winding progress. The winding device can thereby advantageously rotate the stack around itself and retighten the material web trailer accordingly, wherein the post-tensioning holding device can maintain sufficient web tension in the material web trailer and guide the free end. For example, the winding device can rotate the stack at a constant speed, and the post-tensioning holding device can be moved towards the winding position at a non-linear speed. Due to the edges of the cuboid-like stack, discontinuities occur during winding. Therefore, the rotational speed of the winding device is preferably coordinated with the speed of the post-tensioning holding device. It may therefore also be advantageous if neither the winding device nor the post-tensioning holding device are moved at a constant speed. In a further advantageous embodiment, the post-tensioning holding device can be movable vertically, i.e., perpendicular to the direction of the post-tensioning tracking, in order to compensate for discontinuities during winding.

[0018] In a preferred embodiment, the separating device has a hot wire. Using the separating device with the hot wire for separating the material web or separator web, the separating line or cutting edge can be arranged at a very close distance to the stacking table. The material web is preferably made of a polymer that is separated by the thermal influence of the hot wire. Due to the possible very close distance of the separating line to the stacking table, the overhang of the material web on the stack can be minimized, so that the material web does not have to be pulled back after the separating process before the first segment is deposited for the next stack. This saves process time, and the position of the end of the material web can be fixed and therefore controlled at all times thanks to the suction surface of the stacking table.

[0019] In an alternative advantageous embodiment, the cutting device comprises an ultrasonic knife. An ultrasonic knife also allows the cutting line to be positioned close to the stacking table. The required distance from the cutting line to the stacking table is somewhat greater than with a hot wire, but with the ultrasonic knife, any thermal influence can be avoided.

[0020] The separating device preferably separates the material web directly next to the stacking position, so that the separating line is as close as possible to a new stack on the stacking table with a minimal overhang. This minimized overhang can be easily incorporated into the material web during subsequent wrapping.

[0021] The distance from the dividing line or cutting edge of the fed material web on the stacking table to the edge of the first segment on the material web of a new stack is preferably less than 50 mm, more preferably less than 25 mm, and particularly preferably less than 10 mm. In particularly advantageous embodiments, the distance from the dividing line or edge of the fed material web on the stacking table to the cutting edge of the first segment on the material web of a new stack is less than 5 mm. The resulting overhang of, for example, 4 mm can be easily wrapped.

[0022] Preferably, the device comprises a fixing device configured to fix the material web trailer wound around the stack by the winding device. The material web trailer can be fixed, for example, using an adhesive strip.

[0023] Accordingly, the free end of the material web trailer can be secured to the material web trailer that is already wrapped around the stack. This can be achieved, for example, by applying an adhesive or adhesive strip through the securing device. The wrapped stack can thus be permanently secured.

[0024] According to a further development, it is proposed that the device has a conveyor carriage which can be combed with the stacking table for transferring the stack to the conveyor carriage and with the winding device for transferring it to the winding device.

[0025] This allows for easy transfer of the stack from the stacking table to the conveyor carriage. The stacking table is preferably vertically movable, so that the stacking table preferably descends for transfer, and the stack can be transferred to the conveyor carriage, which preferably meshes with the stacking table. The stacking table then preferably moves back up to its starting position.

[0026] In possible embodiments, the winding device is vertically movable. After the stack has been moved to the winding position by means of the conveyor carriage, it can be transferred from the conveyor carriage to the winding device, for example by a meshing transfer. The winding device and the conveyor carriage preferably mesh with each other so that an opposing vertical movement, for example by lowering the conveyor carriage or raising the winding device, enables a transfer in order to ensure that the stack is held seamlessly in the transfers. The conveyor carriage preferably has a clamping lever which is designed to clamp a stack onto the conveyor carriage. The clamping lever can, for example, be L-shaped, with one leg of the L-shaped clamping lever resting on the upper side of the stack. The stack is preferably clamped between the support surface of the conveyor carriage and the clamping lever so that a movement of the stack from the stacking position to the winding position on the conveyor carriage is possible without the segments and material web slipping relative to each other on the conveyor carriage.

[0027] In a preferred embodiment, the conveyor carriage is movable from the stacking position to the winding position, in particular transversely to the folds of a stack. This means that the conveyor carriage is preferably movable from the stacking position to the winding position in a direction that is orthogonal to the course of the fold edges of the folds.

[0028] It is further proposed that the material web can be pulled out of a material web feed device by the conveyor carriage, forming the material web trailer. This can be achieved in particular by clamping the stack on the conveyor carriage, whereby the corresponding tensile forces of the trailer on the stack, in particular on the upper part of the stack, can be absorbed without damaging the upper segment, for example an anode. Furthermore, this can achieve advantageous functional integration, since the stack can be conveyed to the winding device at the same time as the material web trailer is being pulled out. The material web trailer can therefore preferably be pulled or carried along by the conveyor carriage. According to a further development, it is proposed that the material web runs over the empty stacking table as a result of the movement of the conveyor carriage into the winding position. This makes it possible for a subsequent stack to be stacked directly on the material web after the material web trailer has been fully pulled out onto the stacking table and the material web on it.

[0029] According to one possible embodiment, it is proposed that at least two conveyor carriages are fixed at the same distance from one another as the distance between the stacking position and the winding position. This allows the two conveyor carriages to be moved together by means of a common control, wherein the two conveyor carriages can be positioned simultaneously at the stacking position and at the winding position due to the corresponding distance. The second conveyor carriage is designed to remove the wrapped stack from the winding device and feed it to a further processing step for producing an energy cell. The second conveyor carriage is preferably constructed in the same way and therefore preferably also has a corresponding clamping lever for securing the wrapped stack. In an alternative embodiment, two conveyor carriages can be controlled and moved separately from one another.

[0030] Furthermore, to achieve the object of the invention, a method for the energy cell, in particular battery cell, manufacturing industry is proposed for wrapping a stack comprising a plurality of segments and a material web, in particular a separator web. The following steps are proposed: - Forming a stack with segments arranged in folds of the material web at a stacking position on a stacking table;

[0031] - moving the stack from the stacking position to the winding position and pulling the material web out of a material web feed device by moving the stack from the stacking position to the winding position to form a material web trailer;

[0032] - wrapping the stack with the material web trailer of the material web in the winding position by a winding device;

[0033] - Separating the material web trailer from the material web of the material web feed device and producing a free end of the material web trail, wherein the stack is first wrapped and then the material web is separated, or wherein the material web is first wrapped and then the stack is separated, or wherein the material web is separated and the stack is wrapped at least partially in parallel.

[0034] Preferably, the proposed method is carried out with a previously described device, for example according to one of claims 1 to 13.

[0035] In a preferred embodiment of the method, the deposition of segments of a new stack onto the material web on the stacking table begins before the wrapping of the previous stack begins. This enables a high production rate while simultaneously allowing sufficient time for wrapping.

[0036] Separation occurs after the stack has been moved and the web wrapper has been pulled out. Furthermore, separation preferably occurs before the stack is wrapped with the web wrapper. According to a further development, the following process step is proposed:

[0037] - Holding the material web by a tensioning device.

[0038] According to a further advantageous development, the following process step is proposed:

[0039] - Holding the material web by a suction surface of a stacking table.

[0040] Preferably, the material web trailer is separated from the material web of the material web feed device as soon as the material web is held by the trailer holding device and the suction surface of the stacking table, wherein the separation takes place between the suction surface of the stacking table and the trailer holding device.

[0041] Further preferably, the free end of the material web trailer and the winding position are moved relative to each other, preferably horizontally and vertically, during wrapping of the stack with the material web trailer by moving the trailer holding device and / or the winding device. This enables the respective stack to be wrapped with the material web trailer with a controlled free end of the material web trailer at all times, wherein the tension of the material web trailer can be maintained by the moving trailer holding device for the entire wrapping process.

[0042] The effects and advantages associated with the method correspond to the effects and advantages of the device proposed above. The invention is explained below using preferred embodiments with reference to the attached figures.

[0043] Fig. 1 to 6 a device for wrapping a stack for an energy cell with a material web in different operating situations.

[0044] Figures 1 to 6 show an embodiment of an advantageous device 10 for wrapping a stack 11 for producing an energy cell, in particular a battery cell, for example a Li-ion battery. The device 10 has a feeder in the upper region for segments 12, 13, which can in particular be electrode sheets. Electrode sheets are, for example, anode or cathode sheets that have a conductor foil with a conductor tab, which in turn are coated with active anode or cathode material. To produce an energy cell, different segments 12, 13, as shown in the figures, are each fed from the left and right via rotatably mounted bodies to the stacking position 16. Furthermore, a preferably endless material web 14, in particular made of a separator material, is fed. The segments 12, 13 are each stacked alternately in folds of the material web 14 to form a stack 11.The material web 14 can in particular be a separator web which separates the different segments 12, 13 and, in the case of an ion battery, enables ion transfer.

[0045] In this embodiment, the stack 11 begins with the material web 14 as the bottom layer on the stacking table 15. The segments 12, 13 are then stacked individually and alternately on the stacking table 15 of the device 10. After each deposited segment 12, 13, the material web 14 is placed over the respective segment 12, 13 by a material web feed device 27, so that the individual segments 12, 13 are covered on both sides by a fold of the material web 14. This results in a stack 11 on the stacking table 15 for the production of an energy or battery cell with a so-called Z-fold.

[0046] The device 10 serves to wrap such a formed stack with the material web 14 as efficiently as possible, to convey it further and to enable an overall high production rate, which is explained below with reference to different operating situations in Figures 1 to 6.

[0047] Figure 1 shows the beginning of a first stack 11, which in this exemplary embodiment does not have a precursor stack for the sake of simplicity. The stacking table 15 is located at a stacking position 16, on which segments 12, 13 and the material web 14 are stacked. For this purpose, the stacking table 15 is preferably lowered as the height of the stack 11 increases. In Figure 1, a last segment 12 is placed on the stack 11. In this state, the web path of the material web 14 is on the right-hand side of the illustration, with the material web feed device 27, which is in the right-hand position in Figure 1, shifting the web path of the material web 14 and thus the exit of the material web 14 between the two sides of the stack 11, where the folds are created.

[0048] In the transition to the operating state of Figure 2, the material web

[0049] 14 is folded to the left over the stack 11 by the displacement of the material web feed device 27, thus covering the uppermost layer of the stack 11, for example, a segment 12. A final layer, for example, a segment 13, can also be applied, which is only covered by the material web 14 during winding. Accordingly, the stack 11 has the specified number of segments 12, 13 and is thus complete.

[0050] Figure 2 shows the device 10 with a completed stack 11 in the stacking position 16. In this state, the stacking table 15 is lowered and the stack 11 rests on the conveyor carriage 24, which is made possible by the stacking table 15 meshing or forking with the conveyor carriage 24. The conveyor carriage 24 comprises a clamping lever 26 which is L-shaped and rotatably attached to the conveyor carriage 24 at one end. During the transition from the operating state of Figure 1 to Figure 2, the free leg of the L-shaped clamping lever 26 is moved to the uppermost layer of the stack 11, the material web 14, so that the stack 11 is fixed on the conveyor carriage 24 in the stacking position 16 by the clamping lever 24. The stacking table 15 is lowered further to clear the way for the conveyor carriage 24. The conveyor carriage 24 then moves with the stack 11 from the stacking position 16 towards the winding position 18.

[0051] Figure 2 also shows the post-tensioning holding device 22, which, in this operating state, is positioned to the side of the area between the stacking position 16 and the winding position 18 and can be moved laterally into this area. In alternative embodiments, the post-tensioning holding device can also be moved from below to the material web. The post-tensioning holding device 22 is provided with a vacuum connection so that the material web 14 can be held against the post-tensioning holding device 22 by means of vacuum, for example, on a suction bar.

[0052] Figure 3 shows the device 10 in an operating state in which the stack 11 has been conveyed into the winding position 18. In alternative exemplary embodiments, the stack 11 can also be moved in the direction of the winding position 18, initially to an intermediate position between the stacking position 16 and the winding position 18. This can be advantageous because, if the length of the trailer changes, the winding position 18 does not have to be realigned. The material web 14 was pulled along by the movement of the conveyor carriage 24, as a result of which it is stretched in the form of a material web trailer 19 between the stack 11 at the winding position 18 or, if applicable, at the intermediate position and the feed of the material web 14 by the material web feed device 27, in this exemplary embodiment to the left of the stacking table 15 in Figure 3.The material web 14 is therefore prepared directly above the winding table 15 as the bottom layer of the subsequent stack 11, and the necessary material web trailing edge 19 of the material web 14 for wrapping the stack 11 at the winding position 18 is located between the winding position 18 and the stacking position 16. In possible embodiments, the length of the material web trailing edge 19 can be adjusted by moving the stack 11 toward the winding position 18 by first conveying the stack 11 on the conveyor carriage 24 to an intermediate position before the winding position 18, and then separating the material web 14 at this length. In this case, the stack 11 is only conveyed to the winding position 18 after separation.

[0053] In the operating state of Figure 3, the stacking table 15 is raised back to the starting position, and the placement of the first segment 13 onto the material web 14 on the stacking table 15 can begin immediately, as shown in Figure 3.

[0054] Figure 4 shows how the tensioning holding device 22 is moved from the side or from below into the area between the stacking position 16 and the winding position 18 and is raised until the tensioning holding device 22 comes into contact with the material web trailer 19 and the material web trailer 19 can be secured by negative pressure. In advantageous embodiments, a suction surface is provided on the stacking table 15, which suction surface also holds the pulled material web 14 by means of negative pressure. With a separating device 21, which in this advantageous embodiment is arranged between the stacking table 15 and the tensioning holding device 22, the material web trailer 19 is cut or severed between the tensioning holding device 22 and the stacking table 15 as close as possible to the stack 11 at a separating line 28.In this advantageous embodiment, the resulting free end of the material web trailer 19 is held by the trailer holding device 22 before, during, and after the separation. Furthermore, in this advantageous embodiment, the other created end of the material web 14 is also held on the stacking table 15 before, during, and after the separation by means of vacuum.

[0055] The separation or cutting of the material web 14 thus preferably occurs when the material web trailer 19 is at a standstill. Furthermore, the separation preferably occurs when the material web 14 is held on both sides of the separation line 28. The resulting free end 25 is held by the trailer holding device 22. Furthermore, in Figure 4, the stack 11 is transferred from the conveyor carriage 24 to the winding device 17, preferably by combing or forking the winding device 17 and the conveyor carriage 24, and for example, by raising or lowering the winding device 17. The clamping of the stack 11 on the conveyor carriage 24 by the clamping lever 26 is released for this purpose by pivoting the clamping lever 26. To avoid a collision during the rotation of the stack 11 by the winding device 17, the conveyor carriage 24 is moved out of the area of the winding device 17, for example, to the right in Figure 4.

[0056] In Figure 5, the device 10 is shown in an operating state in which the stack 11 is wrapped into the material web trailer 19 by the winding device 17 at the winding position 18. Accordingly, the formation of a stack 11 and the wrapping of another stack 11 take place simultaneously at different positions 16, 18.

[0057] During the winding process, the free end of the material web tensioner 19 is guided by the tensioner holding device 22 while maintaining sufficient web tension, so that the tensioner holding device 22 moves toward the winding device 17. This occurs simultaneously with the formation of the subsequent stack 11 at the stacking position 16.

[0058] The material web trailer 19 wrapped around the stack 11 is secured by a fixing device 23 to the trailer holding device 22, preferably by means of an adhesive, for example an adhesive strip. In a final step, illustrated in Figure 6, the wrapped stack 11 is conveyed away from the winding device 24. The first conveyor carriage 24, which has transferred the stack 11 to the winding device 17, has, as can be seen in Figure 6, temporarily moved to the stacking position 16 in order to subsequently accept the subsequent stack 11 analogously to the operating state of Figure 1.

[0059] In a further alternative sequence of the stacking process with the device 10, the first segment 13, for example an anode sheet, can be placed from the right onto the material web 14, in particular the separator web, on the stacking table 15. The material web 14 is then folded by the movement of the material web feed device 20 over the first and bottommost segment 13 of the stack 11. The next segment 12, for example a cathode sheet, can then be placed from the left. The stack 11 is accordingly constructed with a Z-fold of the material web 14. The penultimate segment 12, for example a cathode sheet, is placed from the left and then covered by the material web 14, which moves from right to left.
