Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Mascara brush Technical field
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a mascara brush, and more particularly to a mascara brush structure. Such a mascara brush may in particular find its application in the field of cosmetics. Prior art
[0002] A mascara brush allows the collection of a formula contained in a bottle, then its application to the eyelashes of a user.
[0003] In order to facilitate the use of a mascara brush, it would be advantageous to be able to offer a mascara brush allowing better application of the formula to the eyelashes. Statement of the invention
[0004] To this end, the present disclosure relates to a mascara brush comprising a hollow casing and at least one applicator element holder extending from the casing in a cantilevered manner, wherein the at least one applicator element holder carries at least one applicator element at a free end of the at least one applicator element holder.
[0005] By applicator element is meant a formula applicator element, for example in the form of a bristle, a spike, a foam, etc.
[0006] By hollow envelope is meant an envelope of which an interior part (also called “interior”) is at least partially hollowed out, preferably completely devoid of material.
[0007] By extending in a cantilevered manner, we mean the fact that the applicator element support projects out of the vertical plane of the envelope or even the end by which it is retained on the envelope.
[0008] In the present disclosure, the principal axis of the brush is referred to as the principal axis. The axial direction corresponds to the direction of the principal axis and a radial direction is a direction perpendicular to this axis and intersecting this axis. Similarly, an axial plane is a plane containing the principal axis and a radial plane is a plane perpendicular to this axis. A circumference is understood to be a circle belonging to a radial plane and whose center belongs to the principal axis. A tangential or circumferential direction is a direction tangent to a circumference; it is perpendicular to the axis but does not pass through the axis. A tangential or circumferential plane is a plane strictly parallel to the axis, that is to say not intersecting the axis and not including the axis.
[0009] It is understood that in a classic use of a mascara brush, the direction axial extension of the brush is to correspond substantially to a direction of distribution of the eyelashes on the eyelid. Thus, an eyelash extends in a plane corresponding substantially to a radial plane.
[0010] In such a brush, the cantilevered mounting of the applicator element holder provides a certain flexibility of the applicator element holder relative to the casing. In this way, the applicator element holder makes it easier to follow an eyelash during the application of formula, thereby improving the comfort of use and the efficiency of formula application.
[0011] In such a brush, the flexibility of the applicator element holder further allows a back-and-forth oscillating movement of the applicator element holder having a pumping effect of the product from inside the hollow casing towards the applicator elements. This pumping effect ensures that a sufficient quantity of formula is available to be applied to the eyelashes.
[0012] In certain embodiments, the envelope is made in one piece with the at least one applicator element support.
[0013] By "made in one piece" is meant formed in a single piece without requiring assembly. In other words, by "made in one piece" is meant formed in a single piece.
[0014] Such a structure makes it possible to reduce the number of parts required for manufacturing the brush. In particular, such a structure is particularly suitable for manufacturing using an additive manufacturing method.
[0015] In addition, such a structure makes it possible to ensure better control of the mechanical strength of the cantilevered applicator element support.
[0016] In some embodiments, the at least one applicator element is made integrally with the applicator element support.
[0017] Such a structure makes it possible to reduce the number of parts required for manufacturing the brush while ensuring a robust attachment between the applicator element and the applicator element support. In particular, such a structure is particularly suitable for manufacturing by additive manufacturing method.
[0018] The positioning of the applicator element at a free end of the applicator element support corresponds to a position among the positions at which the movement of the applicator element support has the greatest amplitude, that is to say among the positions at which an applicator element carried by the applicator element support will be able to best follow an eyelash during the application of formula.
[0019] In some embodiments, the at least one applicator element support has a cross-sectional area of between 0.25 mm2 and 5 mm2, preferably between 1 mm2 and 2 mm2. A transverse direction is a direction transverse to the direction in which the applicator element support extends in a cantilever manner.
[0020] Such a cross-section makes it possible to ensure good flexibility of the applicator element support as well as good mechanical strength, in order to ensure eyelash tracking without risk of damage to the eyelash. Such a cross-section is also suitable for the use of additive manufacturing methods.
[0021] In some embodiments, the at least one applicator element support extends cantilevered from the envelope by a distance between 0.25 mm and 5 mm, preferably between 1 mm and 3 mm.
[0022] Such a distance makes it possible to ensure a sufficient amplitude of movement for effective tracking of the eyelashes during the application of the formula.
[0023] In some embodiments, the applicator element holder is connected to the casing by forming a constriction.
[0024] In other words, the narrowing forms a connecting portion between the casing and the remainder of the applicator element holder. The narrowing increases the flexibility of the holder. The wider portion of the applicator element holder has a surface for receiving an applicator element and forms the overhang of the applicator element holder.
[0025] In certain embodiments, the at least one applicator element support extends substantially along a tangential plane of the brush. Thus, the applicator element support can deform in a radial direction, corresponding to the direction of extension of an eyelash during the application of formula.
[0026] In some embodiments, the brush includes at least one support pattern formed from a pair of applicator element supports extending in the same direction and in opposite directions.
[0027] The deformation of the applicator element supports in opposite directions causes an offset between the applicator elements during the application of the mascara, making it possible to make the application uniform.
[0028] In some embodiments, the applicator element supports extend substantially in a circumferential and / or axial direction.
[0029] In some embodiments, the applicator element supports of the support pattern extend substantially in a circumferential and / or axial direction, preferably relative to each other. More generally, the applicator element supports extend substantially in a circumferential and / or axial direction even if they do not belong to a support pattern.
[0030] Such a structure makes it possible to promote deformation in a radial direction of the applicator element supports, so as to improve the tracking of an eyelash during the application of the formula.
[0031] In some embodiments, a plurality of support patterns are formed on a circumferential contour of the brush. Alternatively or in addition, a a plurality of support patterns are formed along the main axis of the brush.
[0032] The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a mascara brush according to the present disclosure, comprising at least one manufacturing step by additive method.
[0033] An additive manufacturing process is particularly suitable for producing complex structures of the brush of the present disclosure, in particular for manufacturing the hollow casing and the cantilevered structure of the applicator element support.
[0034] The invention also relates to a brush comprising a handle and a mascara brush according to the present disclosure. Brief description of the drawings

[0039] [Fig.5] [Fig.5] is a schematic view of a support pattern of the first mode of realization. Description of the embodiments
[0040] The present invention will be described with reference to specific exemplary embodiments. However, it is obvious that modifications and changes may be made to these examples without departing from the general scope of the invention as defined by the claims. In particular, individual features of the various illustrated / mentioned embodiments may be combined in additional embodiments. Therefore, the description and drawings should be considered in an illustrative rather than restrictive sense.
[0041] The general structure of the brush will be described in relation to Figures 1 to 3. The brush and the applicator element supports will be described in relation to Figures 4 and 5.
[0042] Hereinafter, unless otherwise mentioned regarding a deformation, the brush 1 will be described at rest.
[0043] The brush 1 extends substantially along a main axis A.
[0044] One end of the brush 1 is free, and corresponds to an end through which the brush 1 enters a bottle to collect formula, typically mascara. Another end is connected to a brush holder 2, which can be assembled to a handle so as to form a mascara applicator.
[0045] The brush 1 comprises a hollow casing 10.
[0046] The envelope 10 extends along the main axis A, over a distance of between 8 and 45 mm, preferably between 25 mm and 40 mm, preferably equal to 30 mm.
[0047] The envelope 10 here has the shape of a hollow cylinder of revolution centered on the main axis A.
[0048] However, the envelope 10 may have various shapes centered on the main axis A. For example, the envelope 10 may have any shape of cylinder, cone or truncated cone, pyramid or truncated pyramid. Thus, the envelope 10 may for example have an outer contour in the shape of a polygon (triangle, quadrilateral, rectangle, hexagon, octagon, etc.), possibly regular, or even circular or ellipsoidal.
[0049] The brush 1 comprises applicator elements 5. The casing 10, surrounded by the applicator elements 5, therefore forms the core of the brush 1. The applicator elements 5 extend in a radially outward direction from the casing 10. The brush 1 may also comprise one or more applicator elements 5 extending axially, carried by a free end of the casing 10.
[0050] As shown in [Fig.3], corresponding to a sectional view along a radial plane, the brush 1 may have, in the sectional plane III-III, for example six applicator elements 5 regularly distributed over a circumferential contour of the brush 1.
[0051] Generally, the pattern of six applicator elements 5 can be repeated on the brush 1 in an axial direction.
[0052] However, the brush 1 may have other numbers and / or other distributions of applicator elements 5, in particular those described below in relation to the patterns of applicator element supports of FIGS. 4 and 5.
[0053] As shown in the enlargement of [Fig.4] and in the schematic view of [Fig.5], the brush 1 comprises at least one applicator element support 4, in this case, without loss of generality, a plurality of applicator element supports 4.
[0054] The applicator element supports 4 can each carry at least one applicator element 5.
[0055] The applicator element supports 4 are formed integrally with the casing 10, and extend cantilevered from the casing 10.
[0056] The direction in which an applicator element support 4 extends cantilevered from the casing 10 may be different from the direction in which an applicator element 5 carried by said applicator element support 4 extends.
[0057] In this case, the angle formed between the direction in which the applicator element support 4 extends cantilevered from the casing 10 and the direction in which the applicator element 5 carried by said applicator element support 4 extends can be greater than 45°, preferably greater than 60°, preferably equal to 90°.
[0058] The applicator element supports 4 have an end called the fixed end 4A, shown in broken lines in [Fig. 5], providing a connection with the casing 10, and a free end 4B. The free end 4B may only be connected to the casing 10 via the fixed end 4A.
[0059] The applicator element supports 4 are thus formed in a window of the envelope 10, that is to say a part of the envelope 10 characterized by an absence of material other than the material of the applicator element supports 4, and the applicator element supports 4 are connected to a window border of the envelope 10 by the fixed end 4A.
[0060] Due to the presence of the applicator element supports 4 in the window of the envelope 10, a gap 6 is formed around the applicator element supports 4. A gap 6 corresponds to a portion of the window of the envelope 10 not having applicator element supports 4, generally on the direct periphery of the applicator element supports 4.
[0061] Seen differently, the brush 1 comprises a hollow casing 10, in which interstices 6 are formed. The interstices 6 pass through the wall of the casing 10 and therefore form cutouts, or slots. Each interstice 6 follows an open contour and therefore delimits, inside it, one or more applicator element supports 4 attached to the casing 10. A strip of material between two portions locally closest to the interstice 6 forms the fixed end 4A of an applicator element support; in the manner of a material bridge, the fixed end 4A connects the casing 10 to the rest of the applicator element support 4.
[0062] Thus, in the present case, the applicator element supports 4 are retained on the casing 10 by the fixed end 4A, and project out of the plumb line of the fixed end 4A. The direction in which an applicator element support 4 extends in a cantilevered manner can be defined as the direction in which the applicator element support 4 projects out of the plumb line of the fixed end 4A.
[0063] For example, the direction in which an applicator element support 4 projects out of the plumb line of the fixed end 4A can be defined as the direction connecting the fixed end 4A and the free end 4B.
[0064] In the case where the applicator element support 4 is curved (e.g. non-planar), the direction in which an applicator element support 4 extends may be defined along the curvature of the applicator element support 4 and be a curved direction.
[0065] In addition to or as a replacement for a curved direction, it is understood that the direction can also be rectilinear and / or curved, possibly in pieces.
[0066] In addition to extending cantilevered in a direction between the fixed end 4A and the free end 4B, an applicator element support 4 may optionally and secondary extend cantilevered in another direction from a portion specific to the applicator element support 4.
[0067] For example, the applicator element support 4 of the present embodiment extends cantilevered out of plumb with the fixed end 4A in a circumferential direction, and extends cantilevered secondarily from a portion between the fixed end 4A and the free end 4B in an axial direction.
[0068] The fact of extending cantilevered in a curved direction or extending cantilevered in two directions makes it possible, for example, to add an additional degree of mobility in deformation of the applicator element support 4.
[0069] The direction in which an applicator element support 4 extends cantilevered from a proper portion of said applicator element support 4 is different from the direction in which an applicator element 5 carried by said applicator element support 4 extends.
[0070] The angle formed between the direction in which the applicator element support 4 extends cantilevered from a proper portion of said applicator element support 4 and the direction in which the applicator element 5 carried by said applicator element support 4 extends may be greater than 45°, preferably greater than 60°, preferably equal to 90°.
[0071] The direction in which an applicator element support 4 extends cantilevered from the casing 10 is different from the direction in which an applicator element support 4 extends cantilevered from a proper portion of said applicator element support 4.
[0072] The angle formed between the direction in which the applicator element support 4 extends cantilevered from the casing 10 and the direction in which the applicator element support 4 extends cantilevered from a proper portion of said applicator element support 4 may be greater than 45°, preferably greater than 60°, preferably equal to 90°.
[0073] The applicator element supports 4 extend in a tangential plane.
[0074] It is understood, however, that the applicator element supports 4 may be curved. For example, the applicator element supports 4 may have the same curvature as the casing 10. Furthermore, the applicator element supports 4 may have the same thickness, measured radially, as the casing 10.
[0075] For example, the applicator element supports 4 do not project radially from the casing 10, outwards and / or inwards. Alternatively or in addition, the applicator element supports 4 may project and / or be set back radially relative to the casing 10.
[0076] The applicator element supports 4 may be included in the convex envelope of the envelope 10. The convex envelope of the envelope 10 is the virtual solid smallest convex containing the envelope 10.
[0077] For example, in the case of an envelope 10 in the form of a cylinder of revolution, the applicator element supports 4 are located at a distance from the main axis A less than or equal to the outer radius of the envelope 10.
[0078] The applicator element supports 4 extend in a tangential and / or axial direction.
[0079] In this way, the application of a radial force on the applicator element supports 4, for example due to the contact of the brush 1 with the eyelashes of a user via the applicator elements 5, causes a deformation of the applicator element supports 4 in a radial direction. In this way, the tracking of an eyelash is facilitated.
[0080] The cross-section of the applicator element supports 4 is between 0.25 mm2 and 5 mm2, preferably between 1 mm2 and 2 mm2. The cross-section is transverse to the direction in which the applicator element supports 4 extend cantilevered, in particular from the casing 10.
[0081] An example of a surface S on which the cross-section is measured is shown in dotted lines in [Fig.5]. It is understood that the surface S is represented by a rectilinear segment in [Fig.5] because it also extends in a direction outside the plane of [Fig.5].
[0082] The width of the applicator element supports 4 is between 0.25 mm and 5 mm, preferably between 1 mm and 3 mm. The width corresponds to the average width of the surface S measured in a direction in the plane of the applicator element support 4, possibly curved, and perpendicular to the direction in which the applicator element support 4 extends in cantilever.
[0083] In the present case, the width of the applicator element supports is measured along the dotted line of the surface S and is measured in the direction of the main axis A.
[0084] The applicator element supports 4 may have a narrowing at the fixed end 4A, where the cross-section of the applicator element supports 4 is minimal. At its minimum, the cross-section of the applicator element supports 4 is between 0.25 mm2 and 2 mm2. At its minimum, the width of the applicator element supports 4 is between 0.5 mm and 3 mm.
[0085] Such a transverse section makes it possible to ensure the flexibility of the applicator element supports 4.
[0086] The applicator element supports 4 may also have a widening, the widening being characterized by a position where the cross-section of the applicator element supports 4 is maximum. At its maximum, the cross-section of the applicator element supports 4 is between 2 mm2 and 5 mm2. The position where the cross-section of the enlargement is measured is located between the fixed end 4A and the free end 4B. For example, the position where the cross-section of the enlargement is measured may be closer to the free end 4B than to the fixed end.
[0087] At its maximum, the width of the applicator element supports 4 is between 3 mm and 5 mm.
[0088] Such a transverse section makes it possible, compared to the transverse section of the narrowing, to locally stiffen the applicator element supports 4, in particular at the level of the applicator element 5 itself.
[0089] In this way, the deformation of the applicator element supports 4 is mainly bending and / or twisting due to deformation at the shrinkage.
[0090] The deformation mechanism of the applicator element supports 4 is then simplified, which makes it possible to ensure better control of the tracking of eyelashes during the application of the formula.
[0091] The applicator element supports 4 extend cantilevered from the casing 10 over a distance D of between 0.25 mm and 5 mm. This distance corresponds to the distance measured between the fixed end 4A and the free end 4B. In the case where the applicator element supports 4 are curved or more generally non-planar, the distance D may be the distance, possibly curvilinear, measured along the applicator element supports 4.
[0092] The applicator element supports 4 may each have an applicator element 5 at the free end of the applicator element supports 4.
[0093] The applicator element supports 4 and the applicator elements 5 may be formed in one piece.
[0094] Since the applicator element supports 4 extend in a cantilevered manner, each applicator element support 4 is surrounded by a gap 6.
[0095] The shape of the gaps 6 may correspond to the shape of the applicator element supports 4. In particular, a gap 6 adjoins an applicator element support 4, and is formed around an applicator element support.
[0096] The gap 6 extends between two ends of the gap 6. The gap 6 extends on either side of the fixed end 4A passing through the free end 4B of the same applicator element support 4.
[0097] A gap 6 can surround a single applicator element 4.
[0098] It is understood, however, that a gap 6 can also surround several applicator elements 4. For example, as illustrated in [Fig. 5], a gap 6 can extend from the fixed end 4A of a first applicator element support 4 to the fixed end 4A of a second applicator element support 4, surrounding at the times the first applicator element support 4 and the second applicator element support 4.
[0099] A support pattern 3 comprises several applicator element supports 4 having a common gap 6. For example, [Fig.5] shows a support pattern 3 comprising two applicator element supports 4.
[0100] The applicator element supports 4 of the same support pattern 3 may have a symmetry, for example a central symmetry as in the embodiment of [Fig.5], an axial symmetry or any other type of geometric invariant, for example by rotation.
[0101] Furthermore, the applicator elements 5 carried by the applicator element supports 4 of the same support pattern 3 may also have a symmetry, preferably of the same nature as that of the applicator element supports 4 which carry them.
[0102] The gap 6 of a support pattern 3 may also have a symmetry, for example a central symmetry as in the embodiment of [Fig.5], or even an axial symmetry.
[0103] The interstices 6 allow fluid communication between the interior of the hollow envelope 10 and the applicator element supports 4 and the applicator elements 5.
[0104] The envelope 10 being hollow, the applicator element supports 4 have a radially internal surface contributing to delimiting the interior of the hollow envelope 10 and thus being able to come into contact with the formula retained in the envelope 10.
[0105] The cantilever structure coupled with the deformability of the applicator element supports 4 allows formula to be supplied by pumping. A pumping force is exerted by the radially inner surface of the applicator element supports 4 on formula present in the casing 10 by a back and forth movement in a radial direction. The pumping allows formula to be supplied from the interior of the hollow casing 10 to the applicator element supports 4 to the applicator elements 5, where it can be applied to the eyelashes of a user.
[0106] Between its two ends, the gap 6 can extend in a curved or rectilinear direction, or a succession of curved and / or rectilinear directions.
[0107] Along the gap 6 between its two ends, the gap 6 has a width of between 0.25 and 1.5 mm, preferably between 0.5 and 1 mm. This width is measured in a direction orthogonal to the direction in which the gap 6 extends and orthogonal to the radial direction.
[0108] The width of the gap 6 makes it possible to control the quantity of formula which can flow out from the interior of the hollow envelope 10 to the exterior of the envelope 10 through the gap 6.
[0109] Pumping the formula also makes it possible to bring the formula to the applicator elements 5 to be retained there by capillarity between two applicator elements 5 belonging to the same support pattern 3, before being applied to the eyelashes.
[0110] In the present embodiment, a support pattern 3 comprises a pair of applicator element supports 4. In particular, the pair of applicator element supports 4 of the same support pattern 3 may be formed of applicator element supports 4 extending cantilevered in the same plane and / or in two parallel directions and / or in two circumferences of the same radius.
[0111] In particular here, the applicator element supports 4 of the same support pattern 3 extend cantilevered in circumferences of the same radius, that is to say circles belonging to a radial plane, the center of which belongs to the main axis A, and of the same radius. In other words, the applicator element supports 4 of the same support pattern 3 extend cantilevered in circles aligned in the direction of the main axis A.
[0112] It is understood that the applicator element supports 4 can extend in the same direction, that is to say that the fixed ends 4A and free ends 4B are aligned in the same direction, or in the opposite direction, that is to say that the fixed ends 4A and free ends 4B are aligned in the opposite direction (“head to tail”), as in the present embodiment.
[0113] In this way, the deformation behavior following the application of a radial force is similar for the applicator element supports 4 of the same support pattern, so that the applicator elements 5 of the same support pattern 3 can for example contribute to the tracking of the same eyelash or group of eyelashes.
[0114] The applicator element supports 4 of the same support pattern 3 can extend in the same direction and in opposite directions.
[0115] The applicator element supports 4 of the same support pattern 3 may for example be invariant by central rotation, for example by rotation of an angle of 180°.
[0116] The brush 1 may comprise a plurality of support patterns 3. These support patterns 3 may be patterns with two or more applicator elements 5, in which the applicator element supports 4 have one or more of the characteristics described above.
[0117] The brush 1 may comprise a plurality of support patterns 3 on a circumferential contour and / or along the main axis A.
[0118] In the present disclosure, the envelope 10 has been presented in the form of a cylinder of revolution centered on the main axis A. It is understood, however, that the main axis A may be a curved main axis A supporting the envelope 10, itself curved. For example, the main axis A may have a curvature of the order of the curvature of the eyelids of a user, corresponding to the curvature of the arrangement of eyelashes on a user's eyelid.
[0119] It is understood that the main axis A may have a piecewise continuous curvature, that is to say that the main axis A may comprise segments which are discontinuous between them, each of the segments having within it a continuous curvature, possibly zero (rectilinear segment).
[0120] In the present disclosure, the applicator elements 5 are present over the entire circumferential contour of the envelope 10, and on the envelope 10 along the entire length of the main axis A. It is understood, however, that certain parts of the envelope 10 may not have applicator elements 5. For example, the same circumferential contour position along the main axis A may not have applicator elements, in order to allow better control of the application of formula by a user.
[0121] The applicator elements 5 are here rectilinear but can also have various shapes, for example with a variable section, a helix shape, etc. Furthermore, the applicator elements 5 can be of variable length, for example depending on their position along the main axis A and / or their position on a circumference.
[0122] Such a brush 1 is suitable for manufacturing by an additive manufacturing method.
[0123] For example, the brush 1 may be manufactured by an additive manufacturing method, for example powder bed fusion, selective laser sintering or multi-jet fusion, for example comprising a polymer material among polyamides, polyolefins, co-polyesters, styrenic polymers, or silicone. It is understood, however, that the brush 1 may be produced by any combination of manufacturing method by additive manufacturing method and associated material having sufficient resolution to produce the brush 1 provided with applicator elements. Such a brush may then be mounted on a support assembled to a handle.
