Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Assembly comprising a cooling module
[0001] The present invention relates to an assembly, in particular for a vehicle, comprising a cooling module.
[0002] The vehicle can be land, sea or air.
[0003] Generally speaking, we are trying to reduce the size of components in vehicles. This is a major challenge. To achieve this, it is possible to miniaturize the components. In the context of a vehicle heat pump, one avenue of work is to compact all of its components, in particular the refrigerant circuit and the heat transfer fluid circuit.
[0004] The invention aims in particular to improve the mechanical strength of components assembled in a compact manner, in particular components of a heat pump.
[0005] The invention thus relates to an assembly, in particular for a vehicle, comprising: - a cooling module arranged to perform a fluidic function, provided with at least one channel for the flow of a heat transfer fluid, - a mechanical support comprising a mechanical holding plate on which the module is mounted, this plate comprising at least one opening crossed by a heat transfer fluid conduit connected to the cooling module, this support being arranged to be fixed to a structural part of the vehicle, in particular a chassis.
[0006] The term “mechanical support” means a support which has primarily a mechanical function, in particular mechanical support and reinforcement. This support has no fluidic function, namely the support is devoid, for example, of heat transfer fluid flow channels or of a member which performs a fluidic function, for example a pump or a valve. This support plays in particular a mechanical reinforcement role for the benefit of the cooling module. This module, by being mounted on this support, sees its risk of damage, for example by breakage, greatly reduced, because the support absorbs forces or deformations before these are transmitted to the module.
[0007] According to one aspect of the invention, the module is fixed to the plate at several points thereof.
[0008] According to one aspect of the invention, the module comprises fluidic function components which extend over two opposite faces of the plate.
[0009] According to one aspect of the invention, one of the components is a pump placed on one side of the plate, and another of the components, for example a valve, is placed on an opposite side of the plate.
[0010] According to one aspect of the invention, a fluid conduit, passing through the opening of the plate, connects the pump to another component with a fluidic function, on the other side of the plate.
[0011] According to one aspect of the invention, the conduit has a diameter smaller than the diameter of the opening so that this conduit extends through the opening of the plate without contact with the opening.
[0012] Alternatively, the conduit extends through the opening of the plate while being held by the opening.
[0013] According to one aspect of the invention, the module comprises at least two components that can be assembled with each other, each component comprising a body provided with a channel for the flow of a heat transfer fluid and possibly a fluid connection end piece communicating with this channel and arranged to be connected to a fluid connection end piece of the other component, each component integrating at least one function interacting with the heat transfer fluid.
[0014] The term “function interacting with the heat transfer fluid” means a function participating in the operation of the module, for example chosen to act on the flow of the heat transfer fluid or to measure a parameter linked to the fluid or to its flow in the channels.
[0015] The invention makes it possible to obtain several advantages.
[0016] First of all, the components each fulfill several roles, which allows for a compact module with a number of parts that can be limited.
[0017] The shape and arrangement of the components are chosen to fit within a desired volume.
[0018] The invention makes it possible in particular to avoid the need for additional tubing / pipes to fluidly connect different components together. These fluid connections are made directly by the end pieces of the component bodies.
[0019] According to one aspect of the invention, one of the fluid connection tips is of the male type arranged to cooperate with the other of the fluid connection tips which is of the female type.
[0020] According to one aspect of the invention, a sealing gasket is arranged between these fitted end pieces to ensure the sealing of the connection.
[0021] According to one aspect of the invention, at least one of these end pieces comprises an annular groove for receiving the sealing gasket.
[0022] According to one aspect of the invention, the male end piece comprises a cylindrical wall with an annular bead at its end.
[0023] According to one aspect of the invention, the female end piece comprises a cylindrical wall.
[0024] According to one aspect of the invention, each end piece is formed in one piece with the entire body.
[0025] According to one aspect of the invention, each body is a monolithic body.

[0029] According to one aspect of the invention, the module comprises at least two, in particular two or three or four, components with such flat walls, and the flat walls are all coplanar.
[0030] Thus the components nested within each other extend generally along a main plane, on one side of the mechanical support.
[0031] According to one aspect of the invention, at least one of the components comprises a heat transfer fluid flow conduit which is inclined, in particular perpendicular, to the main plane of the nested components.
[0032] According to one aspect of the invention, this conduit extends through an opening in the mechanical support.
[0033] According to one aspect of the invention, the components each comprise a flange arranged to bear against a flange of the adjacent component when these components are assembled with each other.
[0034] According to one aspect of the invention, the flange is perpendicular to the main plane of the nested components.
[0035] Some components may each be nested with two, or three or more adjacent components.
[0036] According to one aspect of the invention, the components are assembled together using fixing members.
[0037] According to one aspect of the invention, these fixing members are fixing lugs belonging to one of the bodies.
[0038] According to one aspect of the invention, these fixing members are screws or nuts or rivets arranged to fix two neighboring components together.
[0039] Adjacent components can thus be mechanically and fluidically assembled together in a relatively simple manner, during a single operation.
[0040] According to one aspect of the invention, the component is arranged to provide a passive fluidic function, namely a function which does not require a moving part. actionable.
[0041] According to one aspect of the invention, the passive fluidic function is chosen to divide the flow of heat transfer fluid into a plurality of secondary flows, or to deflect the fluid by making it perform a turn, or to accelerate or slow it down using fluid passage sections having an appropriate shape.
[0042] According to one aspect of the invention, the passive fluidic function is achieved by choosing the shape of the channels, their dimensions and their branches.
[0043] For example, the component has two channels that connect at right angles to cause the fluid to make a turn.
[0044] According to one aspect of the invention, the component with passive fluidic function is a filter for filtering particles present in the heat transfer fluid, in particular a dielectric fluid.
[0045] According to one aspect of the invention, the component is arranged to provide an active fluidic function, namely a function which requires an actuable moving part to act on the fluid or the flow of the fluid.
[0046] According to one aspect of the invention, this component with active fluidic function comprises a valve.
[0047] According to one aspect of the invention, the body of the component forms a body of the valve.
[0048] Thus the fluidic function is formed by a part of the body of the component.
[0049] According to one aspect of the invention, the valve is a non-return valve ("check valve" in English), and a valve spring may be provided bearing on a surface of the body of the component, this spring acting on a movable shutter housed in a housing of the body of the component.
[0050] According to one aspect of the invention, the valve is a throttle valve.
[0051] According to one aspect of the invention, the valve is a flow direction valve, in particular of the 3-way or 4-way type.
[0052] According to one aspect of the invention, the component advantageously integrates constituent elements of the valve, for example one or more movable flaps.
[0053] According to one aspect of the invention, one or more plugs may be provided to close the end of channels.
[0054] According to one aspect of the invention, the plate of the mechanical support is a front plate of the support.
[0055] According to one aspect of the invention, the front plate comprises a flat main wall on which the fluidic function components are mounted.
[0056] According to one aspect of the invention, the plate comprises a plurality of through openings, for example 3 or 4 or 5 in number, these openings being configured each to receive a conduit from a fluidic function component.
[0057] According to one aspect of the invention, the conduit is part of a body of the component.
[0058] According to one aspect of the invention, these openings extend in the same plane which is that of the main flat wall.
[0059] According to one aspect of the invention, the support comprises at least one holding wing fixed on one side of the front plate of the support.
[0060] According to one aspect of the invention, the retaining wing and the front plate are two separate parts.
[0061] According to one aspect of the invention, the front plate comprises a side wall which is angled relative to the flat main wall, and the retaining wing is fixed to this side wall of the front plate.
[0062] According to one aspect of the invention, the support comprises two holding wings fixed on two opposite sides of the front plate of the support.
[0063] According to one aspect of the invention, the front plate comprises two side walls which are angled relative to the planar main wall, and extend from two opposite edges of the main wall.

[0115] [Fig.l] shows an assembly 1 for a motor vehicle, comprising: - a cooling module 2 operating with a heat transfer fluid, - a mechanical support 3 comprising a mechanical holding plate 4 on on which the module 2 is mounted, this support 3 being arranged to be fixed on a structural part of the vehicle, here a chassis 100 (illustrated schematically in [Fig.9]).
[0116] The term “mechanical support” means a support which has mainly a mechanical function, in particular mechanical support and reinforcement. This support 3 has no fluidic function, namely the support 3 is devoid of heat transfer fluid flow channels or of a member which performs a fluidic function, for example a pump or a valve. This support 3 plays in particular a mechanical reinforcement role for the benefit of the cooling module 2.
[0117] As will be described below, the module 2 comprises components with a fluidic function which extend over two opposite main faces 5 and 6 of the plate 4.
[0118] Among these components are two pumps 10 placed on the face 5 of the plate 4, and other components placed on the opposite face 6 of the plate 4.
[0119] As can be seen in [Fig.4] in particular, on face 6 of pack 4, there are placed several components 15 to 19 nested between them.
[0120] Each component 15 to 19 comprises a monolithic body 20 to 24 respectively.
[0121] Figures 4, 6 and 7 show the component 15 mounted on the plate 4, the component 15 being provided with channels 26 for the flow of a heat transfer fluid and with fluid connection end pieces 28 communicating with these channels 26 and arranged to be each connected to a fluid connection end piece of the neighboring component. For example, [Fig. 4] shows the end piece 29 of the component 17 neighboring the component 15.
[0122] A three-way valve 11 is placed on the component 15 to regulate the fluid flows in this component 15.
[0123] Each component 15 to 19 integrates at least one function interacting with the heat transfer fluid.
[0124] The term “function interacting with the heat transfer fluid” means a function participating in the operation of the module, for example chosen to act on the flow of the heat transfer fluid or to measure a parameter linked to the fluid or its flow in the channels.
[0125] A sealing gasket may be arranged between the end pieces 28 and 29 to ensure the sealing of the connection between neighboring components 15 to 17.
[0126] Each end piece 28, 29 is formed in one piece with the entire body 20 and 22 respectively.
[0127] The bodies 20 to 24 are made of metal, for example aluminum, or plastic.
[0128] Each body 20 to 24 comprises one or more cylindrical walls 30 which define the fluid flow channel(s) 26.
[0129] Each body 20 to 24 comprises a flat wall 31 parallel to the main face 6 of the plate 4.
[0130] The flat walls 31 are all coplanar so that the nested components 15 to 19 extend generally in the same main plane PP parallel to the face 6 of the plate 4.
[0131] Some of the components, for example those 16 and 18, comprise one or more heat transfer fluid flow conduits 33 which are inclined, in particular perpendicular, to the main plane PP of the nested components. These conduits 33 are oriented in the opposite direction to the face 6 of the plate 4.
[0132] As illustrated in Figures 3 and 7, the component 15 comprises a conduit 34 which extends through an opening 35 of the plate 4 of the mechanical support 3.
[0133] This conduit 34 makes it possible to connect fluidic components on either side of the plate 4.
[0134] Components 15 to 19 may have various configurations, with a number and a form of channels and conduits to be adapted according to the required environments.
[0135] As can be seen in Figures 4 and 6, certain components 15 to 19 each comprise one or more flanges 36 arranged to bear against a flange 36 of the adjacent body 20 to 24 when these components are assembled with each other.
[0136] Each flange 36 is perpendicular to the main plane PP of the nested components.
[0137] The components 15 to 19 are assembled together using fixing members, by example of the fixing lugs belonging to one of the bodies 20 to 24.
[0138] According to one aspect of the invention, these fixing members are screws or nuts or rivets arranged to fix two neighboring components 15 to 19 together.
[0139] Each component 15 to 19 is arranged to provide a passive fluidic function, namely a function which does not require an actuable moving part.
[0140] The passive fluidic function is chosen to divide the flow of heat transfer fluid into a plurality of secondary flows, or to deflect the fluid by making it perform a turn, or to accelerate or slow it down using fluid passage sections having an appropriate shape.
[0141] For example, the passive fluidic function is achieved by choosing the shape of the channels 26, their dimensions and their branches.
[0142] For example, component 15 has two channels 26 which connect at right angles so that the fluid makes a turn.
[0143] At least one of the components 15 to 19 forms a flow-directing valve, in particular of the 3-way or 4-way type. In this case, the valve-forming component comprises the body and one or more additional movable elements placed in the body and configured to regulate the flow of fluid.
[0144] As illustrated in Figures 3 and 7 in particular, a fluid conduit 38 of the component 15 passes through an opening 39 of the plate 4 to connect the pump 10 to this component 15, on the other side of the mechanical holding plate 4.
[0145] The plate 4 thus comprises a plurality of openings 35 and 39, for example four in number.
[0146] The conduit 38 has a diameter smaller than the diameter of the opening 39 so that this conduit 38 extends through the opening 39 of the plate 4 without contact with the opening 39.
[0147] Alternatively, the conduit 38 extends through the opening 39 of the plate 4 while being held by the opening 39.
[0148] The plate 4 of the mechanical support 3 is a front plate of the support 3.
[0149] The components 15 to 19 are mounted on a flat main wall 40 of the plate 4, this flat wall 40 defining the opposite faces 5 and 6.
[0150] As illustrated in [Fig.5], the support 3 comprises at least two holding wings 41 fixed on two opposite sides of the front plate 4 of the support 3.
[0151] The retaining wings 41 and the front plate 4 are separate parts.
[0152] The front plate 4 comprises, on each of the two opposite edges 42, a side wall 43 which is bent relative to the flat main wall 40, and each retaining wing 41 is fixed to this side wall 43 of the front plate 4.
[0153] The front plate 4 is made in one piece, in particular with the main wall 40 and the side walls 43.
[0154] The plate 4 and the wings 41 can each be made from a metal sheet cut and folded along certain lines.
[0155] The front plate 4 and the wings 41 are assembled together using fasteners such as screws, and include holes 45 for receiving the fasteners such as screws.
[0156] The front plate 4 comprises an annular bead 48 surrounding each opening 39, bead 48 on which is arranged the pump 10 which can be actuated by an electric motor.
[0157] Each pump 10 comprises a base 49, illustrated in isolation in [Fig.8], fixed to the annular bead 48.
[0158] The base 49 comprises a tip 50 cooperating with a tip or conduit 38 of the component 15, through the opening 39.
[0159] The base 49 of the pump 10 comprises a volute 51 for the circulation of fluid.
[0160] The pump 10 comprises a cylindrical wall 52 connecting to the base 49.
[0161] The components 15 to 19 are fixed to the front plate 4 using fixing members such as screws.
[0162] As illustrated in Figures 5, 9 and 10, the support 3 is fixed to a structural part of the vehicle such as a chassis 100, by means of shock-absorbing fixing members 60 each provided with a shock-absorbing element 61.
[0163] Each damping element 61 is placed in abutment against the mechanical support 3, by a retaining element 62 separate from the damping element 61.
[0164] Each retaining element 62 comprises a bearing head 63 against the damping element 61.
[0165] The damping element 61 is annular in shape with a central passage, and the retaining element 62, in particular made of metal such as steel or aluminum, comprises a cylindrical portion 64 which extends through the central passage of the damping element 61.
[0166] This cylindrical part 64 of the retaining element 62 is extended at each end by a support head 63 and 67, one of which 63 bears on the damping element 61.
[0167] The damping fixing member 60 comprises, in addition to the damping element 61 and the retaining element 62, also a metal ring 68 configured to serve as a support for the retaining element 62.
[0168] The retaining element 62 comprises the head 67 bearing on this ring 68.
[0169] The cylindrical portion 64 of the retaining element 62 extends through a slot 69 of the wing 41, and the damping element 61 is placed opposite this slot 69, bearing against the wing 4L
[0170] The ring 68 is placed opposite this slot 69, bearing against a face of the wing 41 opposite the face on which the damping element 61 is placed.
[0171] Thus the damping element 61 and the ring 68 are held in abutment on two opposite faces of the wing 4L.
[0172] The damping element 61 is annular, and comprises a base 70 bearing on a face of the wing 41 and a cylindrical extension 71 extending into the slot 69 of the wing 41, as can be seen in Figures 9 to 11.
[0173] The cylindrical portion 64 of the retaining element 62 passes inside the cylindrical extension 71 of the damping element 61.
[0174] The damping element 61 is made of an elastomer material, for example EPDM (ethylene and propylene copolymer).
[0175] Each wing 41 of the support comprises a shock-absorbing fixing member 60.
[0176] Each shock-absorbing fixing member 60 is configured to cooperate with a fixing element such as a screw or a nut, connecting the frame 100 and the support 3.
[0177] The cooling module 2 is part of a heat transfer fluid circuit of a heat pump, on board the vehicle.
[0178] The heat transfer fluid here is glycolated water.
[0179] The number of components to be assembled can be varied, depending on the needs in terms of functionality and the type of circuit in which the module 2 is integrated.
[0180] The circuit will not be described in more detail, being well known in the prior art. The invention is adaptable to a large number of types of cooling circuit, insofar as the different components can be chosen to perform the different expected functions.
