Description

Title of the invention: heat exchanger device and assembly for grey water

[0001] The technical field concerns that of heat exchangers between two fluids, in particular two liquids.

[0002] The technical field concerns more particularly that of heat exchangers for domestic use for the recovery of heat contained in waste water, and even more particularly grey water.

[0003] But the technical field can also concern that of heat exchangers for industrial use for the recovery of heat contained in slightly dirty waste water, in particular washing or rinsing water.

[0004] Grey water refers to household water, that is to say commonly used water that comes from domestic use, such as washing utensils and clothes, as well as personal hygiene. According to the NF EN 16323 standard of May 2014, grey water is domestic waste water excluding toilet and urinal water. It includes water from bathrooms (showers, bathtubs, sinks), washing machines and that from the kitchen (sinks, dishwashers).

[0005] These grey waters are known to be not very dirty, they contain particles or chemical products such as surfactants, food waste, dead skin, hair, etc.

[0006] It is known to recycle this grey water to have a lower ecological impact. This is true in the case of a residential building, or an industrial building, but also for tertiary buildings used in particular for hotels, sports facilities, health, restaurants, hairdressing salons, swimming pools, or even on campsites with collective sanitary blocks.

[0007] In the same logic of reducing the ecological impact, it is known to equip the means of collecting and / or evacuating grey water with a heat recovery device. Indeed, this grey water can still be hot. In return, the clean water from a supply network must be heated to the desired temperature, which is close to the temperature of the grey water.

[0008] In the case of using water over a relatively long period, i.e. several minutes, several tens of minutes or more, this results in a significant loss of heat energy.

[0009] This is particularly true in the case of showers, but it is also true for dishwashers, or during continuous washing operations in industry.

[0010] Heat recovery in industry is carried out in a known manner by dis- large, bulky, heavy heat transfer positives.

[0011] The transposition of these heat recovery devices to a more compact device, a shower for example, comes up against several problems.

[0012] Such an industrial device has a large footprint and dimensions. However, there is little free space in a shower or nearby.

[0013] Such an industrial device offers interesting performance for continuous use. However, a shower only takes a few minutes. The device must be adapted to transfer calories as quickly as possible and in the largest possible quantity over a short period.

[0014] Such an industrial device includes filtration and maintenance means. However, in the context of a shower, it is already difficult to find a space to place the device, the need to provide a hatch or an access point makes the integration of said device more difficult. This access is all the more important since the heat exchange requires the largest possible exchange surface, and any residue or film on the exchange surface hinders the performance of the device. It is therefore important to be able to clean or carry out regular maintenance on the inside of the device.

[0015] The installation of such an industrial device can be planned from the design stage of the factory where it will be installed, with the reservation of a dedicated location. However, in the case of a shower, the dimensions of the receiver, the cabin and the supply and drainage networks are predetermined by construction practice and practically imposed. This is all the more the case in the case of a renovation, of a bathroom for example.

[0016] To overcome these problems, devices are known for transferring heat between waste water and water supplied by a supply network installed at the receiver.

[0017] Document FR3106878 teaches a heat exchanger intended to heat cold water using the heat from the waste water from a shower. This heat exchanger comprises a waste water collection tank, a heat exchange member arranged in the collection tank connected on the one hand to a cold water supply network, and on the other hand to means for supplying cold water to said device, the collection tank being segmented into a first zone receiving the waste water and discharging into a second zone, the heat exchange member comprising at least a first section proximal to the cold water supply network housed in the first zone of the tank, and a second section proximal to the water supply means housed in the second zone of the tank.

[0018] This heat exchanger, when the device such as the shower is used, that the collected waste water and therefore still hot, is brought into contact with the second section of the heat exchange member to heat the cold water supplying the apparatus, the second section of the heat exchanger being immersed in the hot wastewater from the first zone. Once a large part of the heat has been transferred, the still relatively hot wastewater flows from the first zone into the second zone. In this way, the cold water from the cold water supply network first passes through the first section of the heat exchanger where it initially heats up. Then, it passes into the second section of the heat exchanger where it heats up again. Having several successive zones makes it possible to increase the contact time between the wastewater and the heat exchanger, to improve efficiency over a reduced time. This device effectively heats the cold water supplied to the appliance using heat from the wastewater. This heated water can then be pumped up to a mixer tap.

[0019] It is thus possible to reduce the use of hot water when using the appliance, in particular a shower.

[0020] This teaching can be applied simply when replacing or renovating a shower, by replacing the shower tray with a new tray having the characteristics taught by document FR3106878.

[0021] However, it is not simply applicable in the case of Italian-style showers, and more particularly for showers approved for the disabled. Indeed, to obtain a disabled approval, the shower tray must now not have a step.

[0022] In addition, replacing a receiver is expensive, and cleaning the whole thing, although easy, requires a lot of handling.

[0023] Furthermore, dismantling the exchanger remains complex due to its connection to the cold water inlet of the assembly. It is therefore necessary to provide valves in advance on the cold water supply network, and means of access to said valves.

[0024] It is therefore an objective of the invention to propose a heat exchange device which is efficient, easy, quick and economical to install and adapt in a new or existing shower tray, even in a walk-in shower type shower tray. Another objective of the invention is to propose a removable heat exchange device which can be moved and replaced quickly.

[0025] Another objective of the invention is to propose a heat exchanger assembly comprising such a high-performance heat exchanger device, allowing simple use by a user, and simplified cleaning and disassembly.

[0026] It is another objective of the invention to propose a device or assembly making it possible to ensure significant heat recovery, greater than 35%, and meeting the requirements of the draft standard NF EN ISO / IEX 17025.

[0027] Another objective of the invention is to propose a shower comprising such a heat exchanger device, or even such a heat exchanger assembly.

[0028] To this end, the invention relates to a heat exchanger device intended to heat cold water by means of the heat of waste water, in particular gray water, from an appliance, in particular a shower comprising a receiver having a surface for receiving waste water, the device comprising a waste water collection tank and a heat exchange member arranged in the collection tank, the member comprising connection means, on the one hand to a cold water supply network, and on the other hand to a water supply network to the appliance, said device further comprising waste water recovery means, characterized in that the waste water collection tank is configured to be installed on the receiving surface of the receiver and in that these waste water recovery means are configured to be installed on the receiving surface of the receiver and juxtaposed with the collection tank to which they return the waste water.

[0029] This heat exchanger device can be added to an existing device very simply by placing the collection tray and the recovery means on the wastewater receiving surface, which allows hot wastewater to be recovered as soon as possible to extract more heat. This device can be installed on a walk-in shower or any other type of shower quickly. This device being removable, it allows not to be dependent on the obligations imposed on devices of the handicap-approved shower type. This lightweight device can in particular be moved to be set aside while a handicapped person takes a shower

[0030] According to a characteristic of the invention, the wastewater recovery means are in the form of at least one plate comprising channels allowing the wastewater to flow to the collection tank.

[0031] The channels in the plates allow wastewater to be returned quickly and easily to the heat exchanger.

[0032] According to a characteristic of the invention, the wastewater recovery means are in the form of at least two retractable plates, sliding at least one into another, capable of being deployed to adapt to the shape of the receiver in which they are installed, and to allow the flow of wastewater to the collection tank placed in said receiver.

[0033] The wastewater recovery means can thus be adjusted to the dimensions of the receiver to recover more wastewater.

[0034] According to a characteristic of the invention, the wastewater recovery means comprise at least two plates of different dimensions and surfaces, capable of being installed to adapt to the shape of the receiver in which they are installed, and to allow the flow of wastewater to the collection tank placed in said recipient.

[0035] By combining the plates together, the wastewater recovery means can thus be adjusted to a large number of types of receivers.

[0036] According to a characteristic of the invention, at least one plate of the wastewater recovery means is made of a deformable material, elastically or plastically, to conform to the shape of the receiver in which it is installed, while continuing to allow the flow of wastewater to the collection tank placed in said receiver.

[0037] The wastewater recovery means can thus be adjusted to the geometry, in particular to the peripheral curvatures of the receiver in which it is placed.

[0038] According to a characteristic of the invention, at least one plate of the wastewater recovery means is made of a material capable of being cut to adapt to the shape of the receiver in which it is installed, while continuing to allow the flow of wastewater to the collection tank placed in said receiver.

[0039] According to a characteristic of the invention, the collection tank comprises additional means for recovering waste water.

[0040] It is thus simpler to recover the waste water which falls on the collection tank.

[0041] According to a characteristic of the invention, the waste water recovery means and the collection tank are configured to cover more than 15 to 25% of the receiving surface of the receiver.

[0042] The device is then compact and takes up little space in the receiver.

[0043] According to a characteristic of the invention, the wastewater recovery means and the collection tank are configured to cover more than 90% of the receiving surface of the receiver.

[0044] By combining the plates, and possibly cutting or shaping them, it is then possible to cover almost the entire surface area of the receiver for receiving wastewater, which improves the performance of heat recovery from the wastewater.

[0045] The invention also relates to a heat exchanger assembly intended to heat cold water by means of the heat of waste water, in particular gray water, from an appliance comprising a receiver, in particular a shower, said assembly comprising a heat exchanger device having one or more of the characteristics of the heat exchanger device described above. This assembly also comprises a thermostatic mixer, comprising means for connection to a cold water and hot water supply network, and means for connection to a network for delivering thermostatically controlled water to said appliance. This thermostatic mixer also comprises, on the one hand, means for supplying cold water to the heat exchanger device and, on the other hand, means for connection to a network of the supply of water from the heat exchanger device to the appliance.

[0046] Thus, by operating the water opening at the mixer tap, a user starts the heat exchanger device without changing his usual movements.

[0047] According to a characteristic of the invention, the thermostatic mixer comprises means for regulating the different networks and the water supplies, in particular by valves or taps.

[0048] Thus, when assembling or disassembling the heat exchanger device, the heat exchanger member is not under pressure if the mixer is in the closed position, which facilitates installation or maintenance.

[0049] The invention also relates to an apparatus, in particular of the shower type, comprising a receiver, said receiver being equipped with a heat exchanger device comprising one or more of the characteristics of the heat exchanger device described above.

[0050] The invention also relates to an apparatus, in particular of the shower type, comprising a receiver, said apparatus being equipped with a heat exchanger assembly comprising one or more of the characteristics of the heat exchanger assembly described above.

[0051] Other aims and advantages of the present invention will appear during the description which follows with reference to the attached drawings illustrating exemplary embodiments and in which:

[0052] [Fig-1] is a schematic top view of a heat exchanger device according to a first embodiment according to the invention, placed on a shower tray here.

[0053] [Fig.2] is a schematic horizontal sectional view of the heat exchanger device of [Fig.l].

[0054] [Fig.3] is a schematic view of a thermostatic mixer of a heat exchanger assembly according to the invention, said assembly further comprising a heat exchanger device.

[0055] [Fig.4] is a schematic top view of another embodiment of a heat exchanger device according to the invention, placed on a shower tray, here of the Italian-style shower type.

[0056] [Fig.5] is a schematic sectional view of the heat exchanger device of [Fig.4],

[0057] [Fig.6] is a schematic side view of yet another embodiment of a heat exchanger device according to the invention, placed on a shower tray, here of the Italian shower type.

[0058] The invention relates to a heat exchanger device 1. This heat exchanger device 1 can equip an appliance supplied with cold water and which uses hot water or means for heating cold water. This heat exchanger device 1 heats the cold water using the heat from the grey water, here the waste water from the appliance. In the example described here, the appliance is a shower comprising a receiver Re comprising a surface Su for receiving the waste water from the appliance, for example under a thermostatically controlled water distributor of the shower head type. The device 1 is placed on the surface Su for receiving the receiver Re of the shower and is connected to the means of evacuation of the receiver Re.

[0059] The apparatus, the receiver Re and the device 1 are considered in their position of use. Thus, [Fig.l] shows a device 1 installed on the receiving surface of the receiver Re, all seen from above.

[0060] The device 1 here essentially comprises a collection tank 2 for recovering part of the waste water flowing from the device to the receiver Re, and a heat exchange member 3. Of course, the device 1 can comprise several heat exchange members, for example connected in parallel.

[0061] The heat exchange member 3 may be formed from a metal pipe, for example copper or corrugated stainless steel, having an incoming open end 30 and an outgoing open end 31. The direction of circulation of the water in the member 3 in [Fig.l] and 2 is shown diagrammatically by arrows.

[0062] The collection tank 2 is here of substantially rectangular shape. The collection tank 2 here comprises means for accumulating the still hot wastewater in the form of a crenellated wall 20 forming an overflow, surrounding an orifice Oe for discharging the wastewater towards the means for discharging the receiver Re, for example of the drain type.

[0063] Thus, the collection tank 2 fills with hot wastewater, and the excess wastewater is evacuated by overflowing through the evacuation orifice Oe into the evacuation means of the receiver Re.

[0064] Of course, the heat exchange member and the collection tank may have other configurations allowing extraction of heat from the wastewater.

[0065] Thus, as illustrated in [Fig.4] and 5, the collection tray 2 may have an open bottom and perforated side walls. Thus, the receiving surface Su of the waste water from the device may form a bottom of the collection tray 2. This configuration is particularly advantageous in the case of an Italian-style shower having a rectangular discharge orifice Oe across the entire bottom of the shower. The heat member 3 then soaks in the gray water, and the water then flows by gravity into the discharge orifice. This configuration is inexpensive and lightweight and prevents gray water from remaining in the collection tray and hindering the subsequent operation of the device once cooled.

[0066] The collection tank 2 comprises means for connection to a cold water supply network, for example in the form of a flexible hose welded or screwed at one end to a cold water supply source. The other end of the flexible hose opens into the collection tank 2 and may comprise connection means such as a threaded ring making it possible to connect this end to the incoming end 30 of the heat exchange member 3, said incoming end 30 being equipped with a pierced nut with which the threaded ring cooperates by screwing.

[0067] The collection tank 2 also comprises means for connection to a network for supplying cold water to the appliance to which the device is attached. The cold water supply means may be in the form, for example, of another flexible hose welded or screwed at one end to a tube of the appliance allowing the appliance to be supplied with cold water. The other end of this other flexible hose opens into the collection tank 2 and may comprise connection means such as a threaded ring for connecting this end to the outgoing end 31 of the heat exchange member 3, said outgoing end 31 being equipped with a pierced nut with which the threaded ring cooperates by screwing.

[0068] Alternatively, the connection means described above may include a welding operation, or include so-called quick connectors commonly used in plumbing.

[0069] The heat exchange member 3 is here in the form of a metal pipe, for example made of copper or corrugated stainless steel, which extends from the incoming open end 30 in loops to end at the outgoing open end 31, as illustrated in [Fig. 2] or [Fig. 4]. The loops of the pipe are carried by the same plane parallel to a main master plane of the device 1. It is of course also possible to provide two rows of loops stacked vertically and mounted in parallel so as to increase the quantity of heat transmitted.

[0070] This allows for an advantageous space / efficiency ratio for equipping a shower.

[0071] The heat exchange member 3 is placed in the collection tank 2.

[0072] The collection tank 2 may include lateral openings 21, allowing the connection of wastewater recovery means 4.

[0073] These lateral openings 21 may be preformed in the side walls of the collection tank 2. Shutters may be provided to block these lateral openings 21 if they are not all connected to wastewater recovery means 4.

[0074] These lateral openings 21 can alternatively or additionally be formed from a breakable lateral wall portion which has been removed, or from a lateral wall portion cut out as required.

[0075] In fact, wastewater recovery means 4 are juxtaposed with the collection tank 2 to which they return the wastewater via these lateral openings.

[0076] These wastewater recovery means 4 can be installed on the surface of the receiver so that the heat exchanger device 1 covers a larger surface area of the receiver 1.

[0077] Advantageously, the device 1 may comprise a collection tank 21 and wastewater recovery means 4 configured to cover 15 to 25% of the surface of the receiver, in order to allow the transfer of heat from the wastewater while limiting the size of the device 1 on the receiver Re.

[0078] Advantageously, the device 1 may comprise a collection tank and wastewater recovery means 4 configured to cover more than 90% of the surface of the receiver, in order to further improve the collection and recovery of hot wastewater.

[0079] The wastewater recovery means 4 may be formed of at least one plate 5 comprising channels 50 allowing the flow of wastewater to the collection tank 2. These channels 50 may or may not have a bottom, in the latter case, the bottom of the channels 50 being formed by the receiving surface Su of the receiver Re.

[0080] The at least one plate 5 of the wastewater recovery means 4 may comprise an upper wall 51 comprising one or a plurality of holes, slots or openings 52 into the channels 50 of said at least one plate, capable of allowing the flow of wastewater into the channels 50, as illustrated in [Fig.l].

[0081] These wastewater recovery means 4 may be in the form of at least two retractable 5',5” plates, sliding at least one into another, capable of being deployed to adapt to the shape of the receiver Re in which they are installed, and allow the flow of wastewater to the collection tank 2 placed in said receiver Re.

[0082] These wastewater recovery means 4 may comprise at least two plates 5 of different dimensions and surfaces, capable of being installed to adapt to the shape of the receiver Re in which they are installed, and allow the flow of wastewater to the collection tank 2 placed in said receiver Re.

[0083] At least one plate 5 of the wastewater recovery means 4 may be made of a deformable material, elastically or plastically, to conform to the shape of the receiver Re in which it is installed, while continuing to allow the flow of wastewater to the collection tank 2 placed in said receiver Re. The at least one plate 5 may be, for example, made of an injectable elastomeric thermoplastic such as, for example, a polymer based on ethylene-propylene-diene monomer, commonly called by the acronym EPDM.

[0084] At least one plate 5 of the wastewater recovery means 4 may be made of a material capable of being cut to adapt to the shape of the receiver Re in which it is installed, while continuing to allow the flow of wastewater to the tank. collection 2 placed in said receiver Re. The at least one plate 5 may be for example made of an injectable elastomer thermoplastic such as for example a polymer based on ethylene-propylene-diene monomer, commonly called by the acronym EPDM.

[0085] The collection tank 2 may comprise a removable upper shelf 22 to facilitate access to the collection tank 2 and the cleaning or maintenance of the heat exchange member. This removable upper shelf 22 may comprise additional means for recovering waste water in the form, for example, of a plurality of holes, slots or openings 220 into the collection tank 2, as illustrated in [Fig.l].

[0086] [Fig.l] and [Fig.2] show different examples of wastewater recovery means 4 and corresponding plates 5.

[0087] By combining different plates with the collection tray, the heat exchanger device 1 can cover 15 to 25% of the receiving surface Su of the receiver Re, as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2.

[0088] In fact, as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, the heat exchanger device 1 can cover more than 90% of the receiving surface Su of the receiver Re, allowing almost total treatment of the wastewater as soon as possible.

[0089] The heat exchanger device 1 (collection tank 2 and plates 5) may include grooves or grooves under its lower face, in order to allow the waste water falling into the receiving surface Su of the receiver Re to be channeled and evacuated to the waste water evacuation orifice Oe of the receiver Re.

[0090] The wastewater recovery means 4 may also be formed of at least one rod 40 placed on the receiving surface Su of the receiver Re making it possible to guide the flow of wastewater to the collection tank 2. The at least one rod 40 may be covered by at least one upper wall 41 comprising one or a plurality of holes, slots or openings, capable of allowing the flow of wastewater to the at least one rod and to the collection tank 2. This at least one upper wall 41 advantageously allows a user to walk or stand on said at least one upper wall.

[0091] The wastewater recovery means 4 may also be formed by at least one element 40 comprising a rod 41 placed on the receiving surface Su of the receiver Re making it possible to guide the flow of wastewater to the collection tank 2. The at least one element may comprise at least one upper wall 42 comprising one or a plurality of holes, slots or openings, capable of allowing the flow of wastewater to the at least one rod and to the collection tank 2. This at least one upper wall 42 advantageously allows a user to walk or stand on said at least one upper wall 42 and on collection bin 2.

[0092] The wastewater recovery means 4 can also be formed quite simply from one or more lateral, through passages in one or more lateral walls of the collection tank 2. These passages can be formed by the lateral openings 21 of the collection tank 2.

[0093] As illustrated in [Fig.6], the upper wall 51 of the at least one plate 5 or of the at least one upper wall 42 of the at least one element 10, and possibly the shelf 22 can form an inclined surface Si towards a distal end of the shower. This makes it possible to leave more space for the collection tray 2 and the heat exchanger member 3, while avoiding forming a projection in the shower. This inclined surface Si can comprise, as mentioned previously, one or more holes, slots or lights 52, 220 passing through to allow the waste water to flow into the receiver Re to the collection tray 2.

[0094] The invention relates to a heat exchanger assembly. This heat exchanger assembly can equip an appliance supplied with cold water and which uses hot water or means for heating cold water intended to heat cold water by means of the heat of waste water, in particular gray water, from an appliance, here the shower mentioned above.

[0095] This assembly comprises a heat exchanger device 1 as described above.

[0096] This assembly also comprises a thermostatic mixer 6. By the term "thermostatic mixer" means a device for regulating the outlet temperature of a liquid from said device by acting on incoming flow rates of liquids at different temperatures, capable of delivering an outgoing liquid at a desired temperature. This regulating device may include one or more thermostatic valves.

[0097] This thermostatic mixer comprises, in a known manner, means for selecting the opening / closing / outlet flow and means for selecting the outlet temperature of the water to the device, in the form here of right and left side levers respectively, as illustrated in [Fig.3].

[0098] This thermostatic mixer comprises, in a known manner, means of connection to a cold water supply network 60, means of connection to a hot water supply network 61, for example in the form of flexible hoses welded or screwed at one end to a source of supply of cold water and hot water respectively, and at the other end connected to said thermostatic mixer 6.

[0099] This thermostatic mixer 6 also comprises, in a known manner, means of connection 62 to a network for delivering thermostatically controlled water to said device, for example more particularly to a shower head not illustrated here.

[0100] This thermostatic mixer 6 further comprises water supply means cold of the heat exchanger device 63, for example in the form of flexible hoses welded or screwed to one end of the thermostatic mixer 6 and more particularly to the cold water inlet, and to another end, connected to the heat exchanger device, more particularly to the incoming end 30 of the heat exchange member 3.

[0101] This thermostatic mixer 6 also has means for connecting to a network of the water supply 64 of the heat exchanger device 1, for example in the form of flexible hoses welded or screwed at one end to the heat exchanger device, more particularly at the outgoing end 30 of the heat exchange member 3, and at another end, connected to the thermostatic mixer 6.

[0102] The direction of water circulation is shown diagrammatically in [Fig.3] by arrows.

[0103] The thermostatic mixer 6 can thus use hot water from the water network hot water and water from the heat exchanger device to deliver thermostatically controlled water to the appliance.

[0104] The cold water supplying the heat exchanger member 3 passes through the thermostatic mixer 6, which makes it possible to cut off the cold water supply at said mixer to prevent overpressure in the networks of the device 1 when it is not in use. It may then be envisaged to use quick connectors to connect the device 1 to the thermostatic mixer 6, these connectors being configured to also allow the cold water supply means of the heat exchanger device 63 to be connected to the means for connecting the water supply to a network 64. Thus, it is possible to simply, quickly and temporarily remove the device and to be able to continue using the shower, then to reconnect the device just as simply and quickly.

[0105] The thermostatic mixer 6 may include means for regulating the various networks and water supplies, particularly through valves or taps.

[0106] The invention also relates to an apparatus comprising a receiver Re, in particular a shower, comprising a heat exchanger device 1 as described previously.

[0107] The invention also relates to an apparatus comprising a receiver Re, in particular a shower, comprising a heat exchanger system as described previously.
