Abstract

The present invention relates to an auxiliary motorization system (100) for a wheelchair. According to the invention, this system comprises a motor unit, a drive wheel, a safety arm, and a hooking arm configured so that its end hooks onto an element of said wheelchair, and can pivot around it, and defines an operating angle as being the salient angle α between the surface of the ground and the half-line passing through the point of contact of the drive wheel with the ground and through the center of the pivot connection, the operating angle defining two operating states of the auxiliary motorization system (100): a driving state, and a free state when the operating angle exceeds a limit angle value, where said safety arm is in contact with the ground, the drive wheel no longer being in contact with the ground.
