Description

Title of the invention: Bed frame corner piece, bed frame, kit and method for mounting a bed frame

[0001] The invention relates to the field of bedding.

[0002] A first type of bed consists of a bed structure also called a frame, a bed base, a mattress and sleeping elements in contact with the user. In another type of bed, the bed base rests on independent feet, see FR3120773. The invention relates to the first type of bed.

[0003] The bed structure is generally removable so that it can be delivered in a small volume.

[0004] Bed frames are assembled at the place of use. Bed manufacturers seek to make the assembly of bed frames easier to avoid assembly errors or even damage to the bed frame. Simplified assembly is appreciated by both the customer and the fitter.

[0005] To achieve this, bed manufacturers are seeking to reduce the number of parts and the number of assembly steps and their complexity.

[0006] DE102017105258 proposes a bed frame with two first side parts pa connected to each other, and with two second side parts parallel to each other perpendicular to the first, wherein the first and second side parts are engaged with each other by relative displacements in a joining direction.

[0007] The invention aims to provide a robust bed, compact in the disassembled state, with a reduced number of parts and capable of being produced by rapid processes, at low temperature and with low production losses.

[0008] The invention improves the situation.

[0009] The invention provides a corner piece for a bed structure. The corner piece comprises a rigid body elongated along a Z axis. The body comprises a first face normal to an X axis and a second face normal to a Y axis. The X, Y and Z axes form an orthogonal reference frame. The corner piece is characterized in that a first pair of recesses is formed in the body from the first surface, the recesses of the first pair being of the X axis, and a second pair of recesses is formed in the body from the second surface, the recesses of the second pair being of the Y axis. Each recess is defined by at least one edge forming part of the body. Said edge comprises a tab cut out of the body, elastically deformable and supporting a retaining lug projecting into the recess. The invention makes it possible to removably fix steel beams to form a bed structure. The invention makes it possible to significantly limit the number of parts needed to make a bed frame, particularly small hardware parts, eliminate welding and reduce the volume of packaging.

[0010] In one embodiment, the body is symmetrical about a Z-axis plane and located at 45 degrees to an XZ plane and the body is symmetrical about an XY plane. The symmetry allows for only one version of the part within a bed, adapted to fit at each corner of the bed frame.

[0011] In one embodiment, the hollows have a rectangular profile section. Beams of rectangular section can be mounted in the corner pieces.

[0012] In one embodiment, weight-reducing recesses are provided in the body, the recesses being disposed between the recesses of a pair of recesses. The mass and the amount of material are reduced.

[0013] In one embodiment, a through hole is provided in the body opposite each lug. Disassembly of the bed structure is possible.

[0014] In one embodiment, each hollow comprises grooves, parallel to the axis of said hollow, on at least a portion of said at least one edge of each hollow. The grooves make it possible to compensate for possible small differences in width of the hollows or beams.

[0015] In one embodiment, the body comprises an upper face and one of the recesses of the first pair of recesses and one of the recesses of the second pair of recesses is substantially flush with the upper face of the body, at a distance of between 0 and 3 mm. A bed base can easily be installed on the bed structure.

[0016] In one embodiment, the body has an angle iron shape with two wings, the hollows being formed in a thickness of the wings of the angle iron, and reinforcing ribs are arranged in an XY plane on the body, the reinforcing ribs having a triangular or trapezoidal shape, the reinforcing ribs being arranged in a plane comprising one of the edges, preferably an additional reinforcing rib is arranged equidistant from the two reinforcing ribs. The corner piece is rigid.

[0017] In one embodiment, the wings are of the same width.

[0018] In one embodiment, protruding legs are arranged parallel to the steering axles, said protruding legs comprising at least one hole. Decorative elements can be fixed to the bed structure.

[0019] In one embodiment, a bed frame comprises at least four bed frame corner pieces and eight beams. Each beam is nested in two recesses of two bed frame corner pieces to form at least two rigid stepped frames with four beams each. Said beams comprise holes for housing the lugs, so as to lock the beams in the corner pieces. The bed is composed of a small number of parts while being rigid.

[0020] In one embodiment, the bed consists of twelve pieces. Thus, the bed may consist of two families of pieces, including four corner pieces and eight beams.

[0021] In one embodiment, a kit comprises at least four bed frame corner pieces and at least eight beams in which holes for receiving the lugs are provided at the ends, so as to lock the beams into the corner pieces. The kit is compact and requires low-mass packaging, thus reducing waste.

[0022] The invention also provides a method for assembling a bed frame, the bed frame comprising at least four bed frame corner pieces and eight beams. Each beam is mounted nested in two recesses of two bed frame corner pieces to form at least two rigid stepped frames with four beams each. Said beams include holes for housing the lugs, so as to lock the beams in the corner pieces. During assembly, the beams are nested in the recesses so as to form two spaced stepped frames. Assembly is simple and can be carried out by untrained persons. The assembly instructions are simple.

The long sides are parallel. The short sides are parallel. Each long side comprises two parallel beams 5 arranged along a longitudinal vertical plane XZ. Each short side comprises two parallel beams 5 along a lateral vertical plane YZ. Four beams 5 are arranged at a low level and four beams 5 are arranged at a high level. The beams 5 at the high level are arranged to support a bed base 2, see [Fig. 5]. The four corner pieces 3 and the eight beams 5 form a rectangular parallelepiped.

[0034] The long sides comprise two beams 5 each, or side members. The short sides comprise two beams 5 each, or cross members.

[0035] In one variant, the bed structure 1 has a square shape when viewed from above. The sides are then of the same length.

[0036] The beams 5 are sections of tubular profile. In one variant, the beams 5 are solid. The beams 5 are generally made of metal, more generally of a steel or aluminum alloy. Here, the beams 5 have a rectangular section.

[0037] In one variant, the beams 5 have a circular, square or oblong section.

[0038] The four corner pieces 3 are arranged at the four corners of the bed structure 1. The four corner pieces 3 are connected by the beams 5. The beams 5 are mounted in pairs, namely two pairs of side members and two pairs of cross members. Each pair of side members comprises a lower side member and an upper side member. The side members are mounted perpendicular to the cross members.

[0039] The corner pieces 3 have an elongated shape along a Z axis. Each corner piece 3 has a height along the Z axis generally between 20 cm and 50 cm. Each corner piece 3 supports four beams 5.

[0040] The side members and the cross members are fitted into the corner pieces 3. Thus, a pair of side members and a pair of cross members are fitted into each corner piece 3.

[0041] The side members and cross members are arranged horizontally. The corner pieces 3 are arranged vertically.

[0042] The corner pieces 3 hold the side members and the cross members. The corner pieces 3 form feet for the bed structure 1.

[0043] The bed structure 1 may have a height substantially equal to the height of the corner pieces 3.

[0044] Reference is made to [Fig.2].

[0045] Each corner piece 3 comprises a rigid elongated body 11 along the Z axis. The body 11 comprises a first surface 13 and a second surface 15 oriented along the Z axis. The first surface 13 is normal to the X axis. The second surface 15 is normal to the Y axis. The first surface 13 and the second surface 15 have a shape ex rectangular exterior. The first surface 13 and the second surface 15 have a similar height and width.

[0046] The body comprises an upper face 14 and a lower face 16. The lower face 16 is a support surface of the corner piece 3 on a floor. The bed structure 1 rests on the four lower faces 16.

[0047] The body has a general shape of a Z-axis angle iron with a first wing 111 and a second wing 112. The first surface 13 forms one end of the first wing 111. The second surface 15 forms one end of the second wing 112. The first wing 111 is oriented along the X and Z axes. The second wing 112 is oriented along the Y and Z axes. The first wing 111 has a thickness equal to the width of the first surface 13 and a height equal to the height of the first surface 13. The second wing 112 has a thickness equal to the width of the second surface 15 and a height equal to the height of the second surface 15. Here, the two wings 111, 112 have the same width.

[0048] The body 11 is made of synthetic material, in particular of polymer obtained by plastic injection, for example PP or PA.

[0049] The corner piece 3 has a plane of symmetry 17 illustrated in [Fig. 3]. The plane of symmetry 17 is oriented along the Z axis and is located at 45 degrees from the first surface 13 and at 45 degrees from the second surface 15.

[0050] The body 11 comprises a first and a second pair of hollows 19. The first pair of hollows 19 is formed in the body 11 from the first surface 13. The hollows 19 of the first pair of hollows 19 are normal to the first surface 13, therefore along the X axis. The second pair of hollows 19 is formed in the body 11 from the second surface 15. The hollows 19 of the second pair of hollows 19 are normal to the second surface 15, therefore along the Y axis.

[0051] Each hollow 19 is delimited by at least one edge forming part of the body 11. Here, each hollow 19 is delimited by four edges 20, two vertical edges and two horizontal edges. The hollow has a rectangular section. The section of the hollows 15 has a shape and dimensions adapted to receive the beams 5.

[0052] In an embodiment not shown, the hollows have a single edge. Said hollows have a circular or ovoidal section.

[0053] The intersection of each hollow 19 with the first face 13 or with the second face 15 forms an opening 21.

[0054] The recesses 19 within each pair of recesses 19 are arranged vertically to one another. Each pair of recesses 19 comprises an upper recess and a lower recess. The upper recess of each pair of recesses 19 is substantially flush with the upper face 14, at a distance of between 0 and 3 mm.

[0055] At least one of the edges 20 of each hollow 19 has a tab 23 formed by cutout in the body 11. The tab 23 may be delimited by a circular cutout 231 in the shape of a semicircle on the one hand and two rectilinear cutouts 232 parallel to each other. The rectilinear cutouts 232 are tangent to the two ends of the semicircle of the circular cutout 231. The rectilinear cutouts 232 are proximal to the first and second surfaces 13, 15 and the circular cutouts 231 are distal to the first and second surfaces 13, 15.

[0056] Edges 20 of each hollow 19 comprise a series of grooves 25. Here, the two vertical edges 20 of each hollow 15 comprise grooves 25. The grooves 25 are obtained by a regular succession of ribs 27 projecting relative to said edges 20 and spaced apart from each other. Here, the grooves 25 have a crenellation shape.

[0057] Near the opening 21 of each hollow 19, the ribs 27 have a fillet 29 making it easier to introduce the side members and cross members. In an embodiment not shown, the longitudinal shapes 27 have a chamfer.

[0058] In an embodiment not shown with hollows of circular or ovoidal section, at least a portion of the edge comprises grooves.

[0059] In [Fig.2], one of the beams 5 is shown fitted into one of the hollows. The other hollows 19 are free.

[0060] Recesses 31 are provided in the body 11 in order to reduce its mass and its quantity of material. Here, the recesses 31 are provided in the thickness of the first and second wings 111, 112. The recesses 31 are arranged so as to maintain the rigidity of the body 11. Each recess 31 is arranged between two hollows 19 of the same pair. Here, two recesses 31 are provided in the body 11 from the first surface 13 and two recesses 31 are provided in the body 11 from the second surface 15. The two recesses of each surface 13, 15 are separated by a reinforcing partition 311.

[0061] The body 11 comprises at least two horizontal reinforcing ribs 33, arranged in an XY plane. The reinforcing ribs 33 are generally triangular or trapezoidal in shape. The reinforcing ribs 33 connect the first wing 111 to the second wing 112 on the inside of the angle iron or from the outside (not shown). The reinforcing ribs 33 are arranged in a plane containing at least one of the edges 20 of the hollows 19.

[0062] Here, a third reinforcing rib 35 is arranged equidistant from the two reinforcing ribs 33. The third reinforcing rib 35 is at the same height as the reinforcing partition 311.

[0063] Supporting legs 37 are formed projecting from the first surface 13 and the second surface 15 in the X and Y directions. Here, the supporting legs 37 are projecting from the inside of the wings 111, 112. Here, the support legs 37 are four in number. A bore 371 is provided in each support leg 37. The support legs 37 have a half-disc-shaped portion and a rectangular portion. The support legs 37 are used to attach decorative elements in order to improve the appearance of the bed frame 1. The decorative elements can be panels or fabric.

[0064] Additional holes 372, illustrated in [Fig.4], on a face of each wing 111, 112 opposite the support legs 37 have the same function.

[0065] A stop 39 projects from the upper face 14. The stop 39 has a triangular outer shape and has a triangular flat upper face. The stop 39 is hollow. The stop 39 holds the bed base 2 installed on the bed structure 1, see [Fig. 5],

[0066] A lug 41 is arranged on each leg 23. The lugs 41 have a circular base 43. The base 43 is coaxial with the circular cutout 232. The diameter of the base 43 is less than the diameter of the circular cutout 232. Each lug 41 projects towards the inside of the corresponding hollow 19 starting from the leg 23. Each lug 41 comprises an inclined face having a circular edge. A portion of the proximal circular edge of the opening 21 is tangent to the leg 23. The portion of the distal circular edge of the opening 21 is distant from the leg 23. Each lug 41 is arranged at mid-height of the corresponding edge 20.

[0067] A bore 49 is provided opposite each lug 41 through the body 11. The diameter of each bore 49 may correspond to the diameter of the base 43. Each bore 49 is open. Each bore 49 is arranged halfway up the edge 20 in which said bore 49 is provided.

[0068] The beam 5 has, here, a rectangular section. The beam 5 comprises two vertical faces 53 and two horizontal faces 51. The beam 5 comprises a bore 52 made in one of the vertical faces 53. The bore 52 is arranged at mid-height of the face 53. The bore 52 has a diameter similar to the diameter of the base 43 of each lug 41 but slightly larger so as to be able to accommodate one of the lugs 4L. The bore 52 is arranged near one end of the beam 5. The bore 52 is located along the X axis respectively Y opposite the lug 41, the beam 5 being in the mounted position. A distance between the bore 52 and the end of the beam 5 is similar to a distance between the lug 41 and a bottom of the hollow 19.

[0069] One of the beams 5 is inserted into each hollow 19 of each corner piece 3, see Figures 1 and 5. The beams 5 mounted in the hollows 19 of the first pair of hollows 19 are oriented along the X axis. The beams 5 mounted in the hollows 19 of the second pair of hollows 19 are oriented along the Y axis. The beams 5 mounted in each pair of hollows 19 are parallel to each other. The beams 5 of a pair of hollows 19 are perpendicular with the beams 5 of the other pair of hollows 19.

[0070] The beams 5 are held in place axially by the lugs 41 which are housed in the holes 52 of said beam 5. The connection between each beam 5 and each hollow 19 of the corner piece 3 is rigid.

[0071] The corner pieces 3 and the beams 5 may be sufficient for the assembly of the bed structure 1.

[0072] In the embodiment of [Fig. 5], the bed structure 1 supports a bed base 54. The bed base 54 is placed on the upper face 14 of the body 11. The bed base 54 partially rests on the beams 5 mounted in the upper hollows.

[0073] In an embodiment not shown, the upper side members mounted in the upper hollows of the corner pieces further comprise a series of holes. Said holes are oriented upwards. Said holes are generally arranged at regular intervals. Said holes can be provided in the horizontal face 51 directed upwards. Said holes are configured to receive and hold end pieces of bed base slats. Said end pieces are configured to be inserted, in particular clipped, into said holes. A bed base slat is installed between two end pieces. Each end piece of said bed base slat is arranged on one of the upper side members. A bed base is thus formed. Said bed base and the bed structure are formed together.

[0074] Reference is made to [Fig.6].

[0075] An assembly kit 55 of bed frame 1 comprises at least four corner pieces 3 and eight beams 5. [Fig.6] shows how the beams 5 are placed before being mounted.

[0076] To assemble a bed structure 1, a user fits each beam 5 into two separate corner pieces 3 so as to form, at the end of the assembly, two spaced-apart stepped frames. Each beam is fitted into one of the recesses 19 of the corner pieces 3 until it clips. The clipping of one of the beams 5 into one of the recesses 19 is obtained when the lug of said recess 19 is housed in the bore 52 of the beam.

[0077] The assembly process follows the following steps.

[0078] The user assembles, in a first step, a first side of the bed structure 1 by fitting two beams 5 into two corner pieces 3, thus forming a first rectangle. The user fits, in a second step, four beams 5 into the four free hollows 19 of the two corner pieces 3 of the first rectangle. The user assembles, in a third step, a second rectangle, identical to the first rectangle. The user fits, in a fourth step, the four free ends of the beams 5 assembled during the second step, into the free hollows 19 of the second rectangle. The first and second rectangles can be, at the user's choice, either the long sides of the bed structure 1, or the short sides of the bed structure 1.

[0079] To dismantle the bed structure 1, the user inserts a tool with a diameter smaller than the hole 49 of the corner piece 3 into said hole 49, so as to push the lug 41 by elastically deforming the tab 23. The lug 41 comes out of the hole 52 of the beam. The user can then remove the beam 5 from the hollow 19.

[0080] In other words, the bed structure comprises eight structural beams and four corner pieces. The beams are mounted in the corner pieces so as to form two spaced apart stepped frames, thus forming an upper frame and a lower frame. Each corner piece comprises two pairs of housings for the beams. Each housing is oriented along an axis. The axes of the housings in each pair of housings are parallel. The axes of the housings in one pair of housings are perpendicular to the axes of the housings in the second pair. Grooves are arranged within each housing. A lug is arranged within each housing on an elastically deformable tab. A bore is provided near each end of each beam. Once the structure is assembled, the lugs are housed in the bores of each beam, creating a rigid connection between the beams and the corner pieces. The corner pieces also serve as legs for the bed frame. The bed frame is designed to support a bed base. The bed base rests on both the top surface of each corner piece and the beams of the upper frame.
