Leg and bracket assembly for a bed foundation

A bed foundation is provided which is constructed of blow-molded plastic and may be assembled without using tools. The components of the bed foundation all have lengths of less than 60 inches and may be packaged together in a container having a length less than 60 inches and a girth less than 84 inches, so as to avoid shipping penalties. The components are constructed and arranged to allow disassembly and storage when the foundation is not in use. One embodiment provides a bed foundation that, when assembled, has a top panel which overhangs the side rails to permit an oversized mattress to be placed thereon. Additionally, bed legs are provided that are configured to mate with contours in the foundation.

Leveling system for a height adjustment patient bed

A system for maintaining a height adjustable patient bed in a level position while adjusting height of the bed is provided. The system has electrically powered linear actuators having internal position sensors, the linear actuators operable to adjust the height of the bed. The system also has control means, electrically coupled to the linear actuators, which compares position information from the internal position sensors and then adjusts the power supply to one or the other of the linear actuators in response to the position information. This permits the trailing linear actuator to catch up to the lead linear actuator to maintain the bed in a level position while the height of the bed is being adjusted. Since the internal position sensors work on small changes in position, the leveling effect is not noticeable leading to less tilt of the bed and a smoother motion during height adjustment of he bed.

To provide an adjustable bed that assists a user to turn comfortably in his or her sleep without mental stress. Once an automatic mode starts, measurement on the depth of sleep of the user lying on the bed is launched. The depth of sleep is measured by detecting biological information such as brain waves, heart rate, and respiratory rate of the user using electrode sensors or the like, and analyzing the biological information according to a polysomnography method or the like. If the depth of sleep is 0, i.e., the user is in REM sleep, and if one hour or more has passed since the measurement is launched or since an immediately preceding turn operation, a turn operation is performed to turn the user.

Collapsible platform bed with integral storage chest

A platform bed, when collapsed from its fully assembled position, appears to be and functions as a storage chest as follows: The slats are removed from between the hinged side panels and off of the rails. The rails are then lifted out of the rail supports. Manually exerting pressure on the footboard / chest front toward the headboard / chest back forces the hinged side panels to fold allowing the collapsible platform bed with integral storage chest to fold in an accordion-like fashion. Once fully collapsed, the rails and slats are stacked and stored on the folded hinged side panels, headboard beam, middle beam, and footboard beam within the open chest. Then the hinged headboard panel / chest lid is rotated downward to rest on the footboard / chest front to conceal the contents in what appears to be a closed storage chest.
