Method and system for power delivery to a headset

A power delivery method and system for powering a headset. A power signal is combined with an audio signal to form a composite signal that is communicated over a shared channel to the headset. The power signal is generated by modulating a carrier signal with a modulation signal. The modulation signal is derived from the amplitude of the audio signal so that the peak levels of the composite signal do not exceed the maximum allowable output of an audio I / O circuit driving the headset.

Integrated power circuits with distributed bonding and current flow

A semiconductor integrated circuit comprises contact pads located over active components, which are positioned to minimize the distance for power delivery between a selected pad and one or more corresponding active components, to which the power is to be delivered. This minimum distance further enhances dissipation of thermal energy released by the active components. More specifically, a semiconductor integrated circuit comprises a laterally organized power transistor, an array of power supply contact pads distributed over the transistor, means for providing a distributed, predominantly vertical current flow from the contact pads to the transistor, and means for connecting a power source to each of the contact pads. Positioning the power supply contact pads directly over the active power transistor further saves precious silicon real estate area. The means for vertical current flow include contact pads made of a stack of metal layers comprising refractory metals for adhesion, copper and nickel as stress-absorbing metals, and gold or palladium as bondable and solderable outermost metals. The means for connecting a power source include wire bonding and solder ball interconnection.

Battery configuration for an electric vehicle

A power delivery system for an electric vehicle provides efficient power management for either continuous or intermittent high-performance operation, using a boost stage and an on-board charging circuit. A main battery, configured as a high-capacity power source, supplies power to the electric motor under normal load conditions. An auxiliary boost battery assists the main battery in supplying a high-level current at a higher discharge rate thereby causing the motor to operate in a high-performance drive mode. A charging circuit recharges the boost battery from the main battery during operation of the motor. The charging circuit also maintains a charge balance between the boost battery and the main battery when the two batteries have different chemistries. In one embodiment, participation of the boost battery in powering the electric motor can be controlled automatically according to sensed changes in the load. In another embodiment, power management can be based on timed intervals.

Reciprocating system with buoyant aircraft, spinnaker sail, and heavy cars for generating electric power

An electric generating system uses a zeppelin filled with helium or hydrogen, and a spinnaker sail, to provide pulling power that will lift a heavy railcar to an elevated height on a track, such as on a hill or mountainside, or in an elevator-type shaft in a tall building. When the heavy car reaches the top of the track, it is released, and its descent drives an electric generator. The generator can be carried by the car, and can send the power to batteries on the car, or to conductive rails. Alternately, if the car is inert weight, cables can drive stationary generators. The zeppelin will be inflated and deflated repeatedly, using equipment to recapture energy during each gas expansion, to help drive subsequent recompression into high-pressure tanks. The spinnaker sail will use a cable-handling device and spreader bars to deploy the sail and keep it at an elevated height. Various advantages are provided compared to wind turbines and pumped-storage hydroelectric facilities.
