Pellets or granules made from walnut shells

Abstract

Manufacture of pellets or granules for fuel purposes based on walnut shells or any other walnut shell derivative. The invention consists of using walnut shells or any other walnut shell derivative as a replacement for wood derivatives. The invention allows for a significant increase in the calorific value of the new fuel obtained during the transformation into pellets or granules. These new walnut shell pellets or granules are particularly intended for use as fuel in stoves.

[0001] The present invention relates to the manufacture of pellets or granules for fuel purposes, based on walnut shells or any other derivative of walnut shells which to date remains for the majority of nut growers an unrecovered waste and therefore a cost in their process of transforming their nuts.

[0002] The manufacture of pellets or granules for stoves or boilers is traditionally carried out using wood flour from sawdust collected in sawmills or wood chips from waste from the wood industry or from processed trees not retained by traditional sawmills, mainly from the coniferous family, which limits the calorific value to 4600 Kcal / Kg.

[0003] The device according to the invention consists of replacing this wood waste with walnut shells or any other derivative of walnut shells which has a much higher calorific value of more than 9000 Kcal / KG for only 4600 Kcal / KG for the best woods, i.e. almost double. This makes it possible to reduce consumption very significantly for the same heating result when burning these walnut shell-based pellets.

[0004] The manufacture of pellets or granules for stoves or boilers is traditionally dried before being bagged or stored in bulk, and is therefore very energy-intensive.

[0005] The device according to the invention uses dry nut shells from nut farming, the shells have already been washed and dried before breaking, which significantly limits energy consumption during transformation into pellets or granules.

[0006] The embodiment of the invention begins with the grinding of the nut shells to a size T of between 0.1 and 1 mm. The powder thus obtained is compressed dry in a die with a minimum thickness of 30 mm and a diameter of between 6 and 8 mm.

[0007] The spaghetti thus obtained is cut to a length of between 20 and 30 mm. The walnut shell pellets or granules thus obtained are ready to be used as fuel. The action can be repeated indefinitely by multiplying the number of dies.
