AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Folding wheelchairs with motorized wheels face challenges such as increased weight, complex assembly and disassembly due to electrical connections, and reduced mobility when motorization fails, leading to high inertia and manual operation difficulties.

Method used

An axle system with reversible coupling means allows easy attachment and detachment of wheels, eliminating the need for motorization on the wheel and reducing inertia, while enabling manual operation when motorization fails.

Benefits of technology

The axle system facilitates easy assembly and disassembly of wheels, reduces weight and inertia, and ensures reliable operation without electrical connections, enhancing user mobility and autonomy.

Abstract

The invention relates to a wheelchair axle for coupling and decoupling a wheel with a motorization device carried by said wheelchair. The axle (2) according to the invention comprises a first coupling means (8), intended to cooperate with a wheel (14) mounted on said axle (2), so that the axle (2) can rotate said wheel (14). Remarkably, the first coupling means (8) extends radially or substantially radially to the axle (2), and the first coupling means (8) comprises at least one reversible connecting means (16), allowing at will to maintain or release said wheel (14) from the coupling means.
