Abstract
Description
Title of invention: Zippered duvet cover Technical field
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of bedding and more particularly concerns a duvet cover with a zipper. Prior art
[0002] In the field of bedding, it is common practice to use a duvet cover to keep a duvet clean while allowing the user to change the exterior appearance of said duvet. Such a cover is in the form of a rectangular fabric envelope with one edge open, generally the one positioned at the feet, for the introduction of the duvet.
[0003] This type of cover, however, poses a problem when stuffing it with the duvet. In this case, you have to slide the duvet into the cover from a relatively narrow end and try to match the corners of the duvet with the corners of the cover in order to have the flattest possible surface. This technique is a source of time-consuming and annoying work since it is very difficult to place the duvet perfectly. The problem becomes even more significant when the cover is large. It is sometimes even necessary to be two people to insert the duvet into the cover more easily.
[0004] This covering technique can also be a source of health problems by generating Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) for people repeating these same gestures in their work, for example in hotels or hospitals.
[0005] A first known solution uses a cover made up of a lower thickness and an upper thickness, generally square or rectangular and made of a flexible fabric and which can be folded along one edge to overlap and join on the other three sides by one or more zippers or press studs.
[0006] However, this arrangement has a disadvantage, particularly in the context of industrial ironing. In this case, the duvet covers are washed in industrial ironing machines with cylinders and the arrangement of the zippers or snap fasteners on the edges of the cover can cause them to wear prematurely due to crushing between the cylinders.
[0007] In a second known solution, described in French patent application FR2878713A1, the cover comprises two superimposed thicknesses, articulated at a hinge located along the upper edge of the cover. Two straight zippers are sewn onto the underside of the cover so as to be able to Open the duvet up to the corner of the top edge. To insert the duvet into the cover, the cover is turned inside out and then the two zippers are opened. The bottom panel is then unfolded around the hinge and the duvet is inserted. The two zippers are then closed and the cover is turned inside out to be placed on a mattress.
[0008] This arrangement has several disadvantages. First, handling multiple zippers can make filling the duvet long and complex. Second, since the underside is intended to be in contact with the sleeper, there can be unpleasant contact between the skin and the rows of teeth and the slider of the zippers. In addition, the arrangement of the zippers makes wedging the duvet in the upper corners difficult and insufficient to hold it correctly when inserted. Finally, the cover must be turned inside out to insert the duvet and it is difficult to place the cover directly on a duvet placed on a mattress without removing said duvet from the mattress or turning said cover inside out.
[0009] There is therefore a need for a simple and effective solution to at least partially remedy these drawbacks. Statement of the invention
[0010] For this purpose, the invention firstly relates to a duvet cover comprising an upper thickness of textile and a lower thickness of textile delimiting a head edge, a foot edge, a first lateral edge, a second lateral edge and an internal space configured to receive said duvet, said upper thickness of textile comprising a rectangular piece of fabric, said lower thickness of textile comprising a fixed U-shaped portion, a single zipper and a flap, said zipper comprising a first notched strip, a second notched strip and at least one slider configured to secure or detach the first notched strip from the second notched strip, said fixed portion being connected to the upper thickness of textile at the first lateral edge,of the foot edge and the second side edge over their entire length and defining a first free edge running along the first side edge, the foot edge and the second side edge, said first free edge being connected via an open seam to each end zone of the head edge and at a distance from the corners so as to form a pocket along the head edge, the first side edge, the foot edge and the second side edge, the first notched strip being fixed over the entire length of said first free edge, the flap being connected on either side to the two ends of the first free edge at the open seams and comprising a second free edge, of complementary shape to the first free edge and on which the second notched strip is fixed.
[0011] Open seam is an edge-to-edge seam, right sides together. Simple and Quick to make, it allows you to join two fabrics together without adding too much thickness to the base fabric. The terms "upper" and "lower" refer to the standard use position of the cover containing the duvet on a bed (closure underneath and upper thickness of fabric above).
[0012] The cover according to the invention allows for rapid insertion of the duvet since it is only necessary to operate a single zipper to open and close the cover before or after inserting the duvet. The existence of the fixed portion and the open seams make it possible to form edges at the four corners of the cover to block the four corners of the duvet during its insertion, thus making its installation easy and rapid compared to the solutions of the prior art. In addition, the use of soft, open seams in the corners of the head edge makes the upper part of the cover (located at the head edge) more comfortable for the user whose head and neck do not come into contact with the zipper, nor any seams.Furthermore, the position of the zipper along the side edges and the foot edge and the permanent presence of four corners (double thickness of textile) make it possible to put the cover on a duvet already laid flat, for example on a mattress, by opening the zipper and sliding the flap (lower side of the cover) under the duvet, the upper side (corresponding to the upper thickness) being placed on the duvet, then inserting the four corners and closing the zipper, which cannot be done so easily with the covers of the prior art.
[0013] Advantageously, the zipper comprises at least one curved section at the foot edge, preferably two curved sections. The curved sections make it possible to get closer to the corners of the cover to be able to wedge the corners of the duvet more easily.
[0014] Advantageously, the first free edge comprises a first sewing bias sewn both with the fabric of said first free edge and with the first notched strip so as to cover said first notched strip and the second free edge comprises a second sewing bias sewn both with the fabric of said second free edge and with the second notched strip so as to cover said second notched strip. The location of the zipper on the lower thickness and its assembly with two sewing biases taking the zipper and the fabric of the free edge makes it possible to significantly reduce premature wear of the zipper during washing, in particular in the case of repeated industrial-type washing. In addition, by covering the notched strips of the zipper, the sewing biases make it possible to reduce the risk of blocking of the at least one slider when closing and opening the zipper.
[0015] Preferably, the first free edge and the second free edge comprise two rectilinear sections called “lateral”, parallel respectively to the first lateral edge. and to the second side edge. In this case, the zipper follows the free edges, it follows that said zipper also has a straight section along each side edge. Such straight sections allow greater ease of handling of the zipper when opening and closing it because the zipper is easily accessible when the cover containing the duvet is in place on the bed. In particular, when changing the cover, in particular when the edges of the cover fall on either side of the mattress, it is sufficient to turn the edges to open or close the zipper.
[0016] More preferably, the open seams are curved to the corners of the cover.
[0017] Alternatively or in combination, the open seams extend in the extension of the lateral rectilinear sections.
[0018] Advantageously, the open seams are covered by the first sewing bias and the second sewing bias in order to improve comfort.
[0019] Advantageously, the first free edge and the second free edge comprise a rectilinear section, called a "foot" section, parallel to the foot edge. In this case, the zipper follows the free edges, and as a result, said zipper also has a rectilinear section along the foot edge.
[0020] In one embodiment, in which the first free edge and the second free edge comprise two lateral rectilinear sections, the foot rectilinear section is connected to the two lateral rectilinear sections by curved sections. It is thus possible to place the zipper close to the edges of the cover, thus minimizing the risk of contact between the zippers and the user of the cover on a bed. These curved sections also make it possible to move the at least one slider along the zipper in a single movement and not to block it in corners, thus facilitating the operations of opening and closing the cover, in particular for providing the duvet with the cover without turning the cover over.
[0021] In a preferred embodiment, the fixed portion and the upper thickness of textile are made of the same material and are folded over each other at the foot edge so as to form part of the cover. The method of assembling the cover is thus simplified, requiring no sewing or special assembly at the foot edge.
[0022] In a preferred embodiment, the flap and the upper thickness of textile are made of the same material and are folded at the leading edge. The method of assembling the cover is thus simplified, requiring no sewing or special assembly at the leading edge.
[0023] In one embodiment, the cover comprises at least one bed flap, for example sewn onto at least one of the first side edge, the second side edge and / or the foot edge. This bed flap, preferably connected to the foot edge, allows the cover to be locked by sliding the flap under the mattress.
[0024] Advantageously, the zipper comprises two sliders, preferably mounted head to tail.
[0025] The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a duvet cover comprising the steps of:
[0026] - cutting a single piece of fabric from a textile thickness, said piece of fabric comprising three elements: a central zone intended to form the upper thickness of the cover and comprising a first edge, an edge opposite the first edge and two lateral edges joining said first edge to said second edge, a U-shaped zone extending from the first edge of the central zone and being intended to form the fixed portion, the interior of the U constituting the first free edge, and a zone of complementary shape to the U-shaped zone extending from the second edge of the central zone forming the second free edge and being intended to form the flap,
[0027] - mounting at least one slider of the zipper on the first strip notched and the second notched band,
[0028] - sewing the first notched strip on the first free edge,
[0029] - folding the U-shaped area onto the central area along the first edge so as to form the foot edge and sewing the side edges of the U-shaped area with the side edges of the central area to form the first side edge and the second side edge of the cover,
[0030] - folding of the complementary shaped area on the internal face of the textile thickness of the upper thickness of the cover so as to form the head edge,
[0031] - sewing the second free edge of the flap and the first free edge of the fixed portion along the two curved head sections in the form of two open seams,
[0032] - sewing the second notched strip on the second free edge, preferably with a second sewing bias sewn surrounding both said second notched strip and the second free edge,
[0033] - sewing the first sewing bias and the second sewing bias respectively on the first notched band, on the second notched band and on the open seams.
[0034] In this embodiment, the foot edge and the head edge are obtained by folding, which provides more comfort for the user compared to seams.
[0035] The steps of this embodiment could be carried out in a different order so as to obtain the same final product.
[0036] Advantageously, the step of mounting the sliders on the zipper also comprises mounting a stop at each end of the zipper. This stop may for example be a stopper (metal or plastic) and / or a sewn-in stop reinforcement.
[0037] In another embodiment, the method of manufacturing a duvet cover comprises the steps of:
[0038] - cutting a first piece of fabric from a textile thickness comprising a central zone (preferably rectangular) intended to form the upper thickness of the cover and comprising a first edge, an edge opposite the first edge and two lateral edges joining said first edge to said second edge,
[0039] - cutting a second piece of fabric comprising a U-shaped area extending from an edge, intended to form the fixed portion and in which the interior of the U constitutes a free edge and the exterior of the U comprises two lateral edges,
[0040] - cutting a third piece of fabric comprising a completely shaped area supplementary to the U-shaped area, forming a free edge, said complementary shaped area being intended to form the flap,
[0041] - mounting at least one slider of the zipper on the first strip notched and the second notched band,
[0042] - sewing the first notched strip on the first free edge,
[0043] - positioning of the U-shaped zone on the central zone and sewing along the first edge so as to form the edge of the foot,
[0044] - sewing the side edges of the U-shaped area to the side edges of the central area at the level of the two lateral edges of the central zone,
[0045] - sewing the third piece of fabric onto the first piece of fabric and sewing it along the second edge so as to form the leading edge,
[0046] - sewing of the second free edge of the flap and of the first free edge of the fixed portion along the two curved head sections in the form of two open seams,
[0047] - sewing the second notched strip on the second free edge,
[0048] - sewing the first sewing bias and the second sewing bias respectively on the first notched band, on the second notched band and on the open seams.
[0049] Similarly, the steps described above could be performed in a different order so as to obtain the same final product.
[0050] Advantageously, the invention also comprises a method for inserting a duvet into a cover as described above, comprising the steps of pulling the at least one slider to open the zipper, unfolding the flap along the leading edge, inserting the duvet between the fixed portion and the upper textile thickness and wedging the corners, folding the flap to close the lower textile thickness and moving the at least one slider to close the zipper. Once the duvet is inserted into the cover, the method for removing it is the reverse of the insertion method.
[0051] As the zipper is close to the edges, the operations of opening and closing the cover can be carried out either with the cover turned inside out or directly by positioning the cover on the duvet and then sliding the flap under the duvet to be able to close it. [0059] [Fig.7] [Fig.7] represents the steps of the method of inserting the duvet into the duvet cover according to the invention. Description of the embodiments
[0060] The cover 1 is configured to contain a duvet (not shown) and to be positioned on a mattress (not shown).
[0061] Cover 1
[0062] With reference to Figures 1 to 3, the cover 1 comprises an upper thickness 10, a lower thickness 20, a head edge 30, two side edges 40A, 40B and a foot edge 50.
[0063] Upper thickness 10
[0064] The upper thickness 10 is rectangular in shape and is made of a thickness of textile, preferably in a single piece.
[0065] Lower thickness 20
[0066] The lower thickness 20 comprises a fixed portion 210, a flap 220 and a zipper 230.
[0067] The fixed portion 210 is made of a thickness of textile made from the same material than the upper thickness 10 and is folded over the upper thickness 10 by a fold along the foot edge 50.
[0068] The fixed portion 210 is sewn to the upper thickness 10 along the side edges 40A, 40B.
[0069] The flap 220 is made of a thickness of textile made from the same material as the upper thickness 10 and is folded over the upper thickness 10 by a fold along the leading edge 30.
[0070] With reference to [Fig. 3], the fixed portion 210 comprises a first free edge 211. The first free edge 211 comprises two curved head sections 211A, two straight lateral sections 211B, two curved foot sections 211C and a straight foot section 211D.
[0071] The flap 220 comprises a second free edge 221 of a shape complementary to the first free edge 211 of the fixed portion 210.
[0072] As shown in [Fig.4], the second free edge 221 of the flap 220 and the first free edge 211 of the fixed portion 210 are sewn along the two curved head sections 21 1A to form the open seams 225, i.e., edge-to-edge, right side-to-right side seams.
[0073] The zipper 230 comprises a first notched strip 231, a second notched strip 232 and two sliders mounted head to tail (not shown).
[0074] Each open seam 225 is separated from the corresponding end of the zipper 230 by a stop bias 227 (designated “cleanliness”) which in particular makes it possible to stop the travel of the sliders and thus prevent them from damaging the open seams 225.
[0075] The first notched strip 231 is sewn onto the two lateral rectilinear sections 21 IB, the two curved foot sections 21 IC and the rectilinear foot section 211D of the first free edge 211 of the fixed portion 210.
[0076] The second notched strip 232 is sewn opposite the first notched strip 231 on the second free edge 221 of the flap 220.
[0077] Preferably and with reference to [Fig. 5], the sewing of the first notched strip 231 on the first free edge 211 comprises a first sewing bias 212 which extends over the two lateral rectilinear sections 21 1B, the two curved foot sections 21 1C and the rectilinear foot section 21 1D.
[0078] The first notched strip 231 and the first free edge 211 are sewn according to the seam 213A represented by a dotted line in [Fig. 5]. The first sewing bias 212 is folded over the first notched strip 231 and the first free edge 211 and is sewn there according to the seam 213B represented by a dotted line in [Fig. 5].
[0079] More preferably and as shown in [Fig.5], the seam of the second notched strip 232 on the second free edge 221 comprises a second bias of seam 222 which extends opposite the first seam bias 212.
[0080] The second notched strip 232 and the second free edge 221 are sewn according to the seam 223A represented by a dotted line in [Fig. 5]. The second sewing bias 222 is folded over the second notched strip 232 and the second free edge 221 and is sewn there according to the seam 223B represented by a dotted line in [Fig. 5].
[0081] Advantageously, the first sewing bias 212 and the second sewing bias 222 extend onto the open seam 225 along the two curved head sections 21 1A ([Fig. 3]) by being sewn via the seams 213B, 223B, as illustrated in [Fig. 4],
[0082] Example of implementation
[0083] In this example, the first step E0 of the method for manufacturing the cover 1 is the cutting out of a textile material of the different elements composing it. Preferably, step E0 consists of cutting out a single piece of fabric of the shape shown in [Fig.3].
[0084] The piece of fabric comprises a rectangular central zone intended to form the upper thickness 10 of the cover 1 and comprising a first edge, an edge opposite the first edge and two lateral edges joining said first edge to said second edge.
[0085] The piece of fabric also comprises a U-shaped zone extending from the first edge of the central zone and being made of the same material, intended to form the fixed portion 210 and in which the interior of the U constitutes a first free edge 211 and the exterior of the U comprises two lateral edges.
[0086] The piece of fabric also comprises a zone of complementary shape to the U-shaped zone which extends from the second edge of the central zone, being made of the same material and forming a free edge, said zone of complementary shape being intended to form the flap 220.
[0087] In a step E1, the two sliders are inserted head to tail on the first notched strip 231 and the second notched strip 232 placed opposite each other. A stop 227 (optional) can be mounted at each end of the zipper 230. This stop 227 can for example be a stopper (metal or plastic) and / or a sewn stop reinforcement.
[0088] In a step E2, the first notched strip 231 is sewn onto the first free edge 211 of the U-shaped zone.
[0089] Then, in a step E3, the U-shaped zone is folded onto the central zone along the first edge so as to form the foot edge 50 and the lateral edges of the U-shaped zone are sewn onto the lateral edges of the central zone at the two lateral edges of the upper thickness 10 so as to form the lateral edges 40A, 40B of the cover 1.
[0090] In a step E4, the complementary shaped area intended to form the flap 220 is folded along a fold, which then forms the leading edge 30, on the internal face of the upper thickness 10 of the cover 1, so as to come side by side with the U-shaped area.
[0091] In a step E5, the second free edge 221 of the flap 220 and the first free edge 211 of the fixed portion 210 are sewn along the two curved head sections 21 1A in the form of two open seams 225.
[0092] In a step E6, the second notched strip 232 is sewn onto the free edge of the complementary shaped area.
[0093] In a step E7, the first sewing bias 212 and the second sewing bias 222 are sewn respectively onto the first notched strip 231, onto the second notched strip 232 and onto the open seams 225 so as to cover and protect them.
[0094] Once manufacturing is complete, simply pull the sliders to open or close the zipper 230.
[0095] It will be noted that certain steps of the method could be reversed without this limiting the scope of the present invention. For example, the second notched strip 232 could be sewn before the first notched strip 231 or the flap 220 could be folded before the U-shaped zone, the insertion of the sliders on the first notched strip 231 could be carried out following the step of sewing the notched strips 231, 232, etc.
[0096] In another embodiment, the textile shapes intended to form the fixed portion 210 and the flap 220 are not made from the same material as the upper thickness 10. In this case, step E2 of the method for manufacturing the cover 1 firstly comprises a seam, along the edge intended to be the foot edge 50, of the textile shape intended to form the fixed portion 210, and step E4 firstly comprises a seam, along the edge intended to be the head edge 30, of the textile shape intended to form the flap 220.
[0097] Once the cover 1 is assembled, the process of inserting a duvet is carried out as follows.
[0098] In a step F1, the sliders are pulled to open the zipper 230.
[0099] In a step F2, the flap 220 is unfolded according to a fold which connects each of the junctions of a curved head section 211A with the corresponding lateral rectilinear section 211B to open the lower thickness 20.
[0100] In a step F3, the cover 1 is positioned on the duvet in such a way that the fixed portion 210 is in contact with the duvet.
[0101] In a step F4, the corners and edges of the duvet are inserted into the cover 1 between the fixed portion 210 and the upper thickness 10 of the cover 1.
[0102] In a step F5, the flap 220 is folded under the duvet according to the fold which connects each of the junctions of a curved head section 211A with the straight section corresponding side 21 IB to close the lower thickness 20.
[0103] In a step F6, the sliders are pulled to close the zipper 230.
[0104] Once the duvet is inserted into the cover 1, the process for removing it is the reverse of the insertion process.
[0105] The small distance between the zipper 230 on one side and the two side edges 40A, 40B as well as the foot edge 50 on the other allows a user to carry out steps F4 to F6 without turning the cover 1 over, that is to say with the duvet already placed on a mattress for example. The cover 1 according to the invention also facilitates the insertion of the duvet when the cover 1 is turned over on its upper thickness 10 and the duvet is inserted into the cover 1 before the cover 1 is turned over on the mattress.
