Description

Title of the invention: Bumper support for motor vehicles

[0001] The technical context of the present invention is that of front bumpers for motor vehicles and the illuminated grilles associated therewith. More particularly, the invention relates to a bumper support for a motor vehicle.

[0002] In the prior art, front bumpers of motor vehicles are technical parts resulting from the combination of several components:

[0003] - a bumper support ensures the required rigidity on the front face of the motor vehicle, and also connects to a chassis of said motor vehicle. The bumper support thus forms a mounting interface for the other constituent elements of the front bumper;

[0004] - a bumper skin that covers the bumper support. The bumper skin is fixed securely to the bumper support and forms a front face of the front bumper of the motor vehicle. The bumper skin extends in line with the hood of the motor vehicle and in line with the side wings, so as to create a continuous surface for the body of the motor vehicle;

[0005] - frontal shock absorption devices;

[0006] We also know of the integration, on such known bumpers, of certain devices such as, for example, lighting and / or signaling devices, ventilation grilles, or bumper trims which make it possible to hide certain technical devices.

[0007] The use of illuminated grilles associated with known front bumpers is also known. Such illuminated grilles create lighting functions on the front of the motor vehicle and also meet styling requirements. Such illuminated grilles are usually fixed to the bumper support by means of fastening that are not always satisfactory. Indeed, known illuminated grilles are attached to the bumper support in a complex manner, for example, by means of intermediate parts that complicate their installation and make disassembly and repairs more time-consuming and expensive.

[0008] The present invention addresses in particular the problem of fixing a central part of the illuminated grille onto the bumper support.

[0009] The present invention aims to provide a new bumper support, in order to address at least largely the previous problems and to lead to other advantages.

[0010] Another object of the invention is to facilitate the mounting of a light grille on the bumper support.

[0011] Another object of the invention is to allow simplified repair or replacement of the light grille on the bumper support.

[0012] Another object of the invention is to reduce the manufacturing and maintenance costs of such a bumper support.

[0013] According to a first aspect of the invention, at least one of the aforementioned objectives is achieved with a bumper support for a motor vehicle, the bumper support comprising a mounting area for a central part of a luminous grille of the motor vehicle, the mounting area comprising:

[0014] - an upper platform for attaching the central part of the illuminated grille, the upper platform comprising fixing and indexing elements for said central part of the illuminated grille;

[0015] - a lower platform for attaching the central part of the illuminated grille, the lower fixing platform comprising indexing devices and retaining devices for said central part of the light grille.

[0016] In the context of the present invention, a longitudinal axis, a lateral axis, and a vertical axis are defined with respect to the motor vehicle on which the bumper support according to the first aspect of the invention is intended to be mounted. More particularly, the transverse axis is understood as a direction taken between one lateral side of the motor vehicle and an opposite lateral side of said motor vehicle. In other words, the transverse axis is understood as a direction extending from a passenger side of the motor vehicle to a driver's side of said motor vehicle, or vice versa. The adjectives lateral, inside, and outside refer to such a transverse axis. Furthermore, the longitudinal axis is understood as being taken along a direction extending from front to back or from back to front of the motor vehicle. The longitudinal axis is perpendicular to the transverse axis.The adjectives front, front, and rear refer to this longitudinal axis. Finally, the vertical axis is understood as being taken along an axis extending from the wheels of the motor vehicle towards the roof of said motor vehicle, or vice versa, the vertical axis being simultaneously perpendicular to the transverse axis and the longitudinal axis. The adjectives above and below, or lower and upper, refer to this vertical axis.

[0017] In the context of the present invention, the bumper support is a mounting interface for the bumper skin, in particular. The bumper support is fixed to the chassis of the motor vehicle, and the bumper skin is intended to be fixed rigidly to the bumper support. The bumper support extends forward of the motor vehicle and between the lateral edges of said motor vehicle. The bumper support comprises an elongated main body that extends predominantly- silently along the transverse axis and the vertical axis.

[0018] In the context of the present invention, the bumper bracket mounting area forms a mounting interface for the illuminated grille, and more particularly for the central portion of the illuminated grille. The mounting area is configured to allow for reliable and robust attachment of the illuminated grille, and is removable. The mounting area allows the central portion of the illuminated grille to be brought into position and supported on the same side of the bumper bracket as the bumper skin is fixed to said bumper bracket. In the context of the present invention, the mounting area comprises several elements that work together to position and secure the central portion of the illuminated grille onto the bumper bracket – the upper platform and the lower platform.

[0019] In the context of the present invention, the central part of the illuminated grille is positioned and held on the bumper support by means of the upper and lower platforms. Each of the upper and lower platforms forms a receiving site for the central part of the illuminated grille. In particular, the upper and lower platforms allow the central part of the illuminated grille to rest against the bumper support. The upper and lower platforms are formed from the same material as the main body of the bumper support.

[0020] In the context of the present invention, the upper platform comprises the fastening members and the indexing members. The fastening members allow a first part of the central portion of the illuminated grille to be securely fixed, while the indexing members allow a single assembly position to be defined for the central portion of the illuminated grille on the upper platform and, finally, on the bumper support.

[0021] In the context of the present invention, the lower platform includes retaining devices and indexing devices. The retaining devices work in conjunction with the fastening elements of the upper platform and prevent the central portion of the illuminated grille from tilting, particularly during installation. The retaining devices are not fastening devices. They do not secure the central portion of the illuminated grille to the lower platform, but simply provide axial support, preferably along the longitudinal axis. The indexing devices, together with the indexing elements of the upper platform, define a single assembly position for the central portion of the illuminated grille on the bumper support.

[0022] Thus, the bumper support conforming to the first aspect of the invention allows for a faster and simpler attachment of the central part of the illuminated grille to The bumper support. The presence of the upper and lower platforms allows for the use of fastening elements that work in conjunction with retaining devices for simplified and effective attachment. Additionally, the indexing elements and devices together define a single mounting position for the central part of the illuminated grille, facilitating both its assembly and replacement.

[0023] The bumper support according to the first aspect of the invention advantageously comprises at least one of the improvements below, the technical characteristics forming these improvements being able to be taken alone or in combination:

[0024] - the upper platform is configured to allow axial stopping of the part central of the illuminated grille against said upper platform, relative to the longitudinal axis;

[0025] - the indexing organs of the upper platform are configured to allow an axial locking – possibly with a clearance of less than 100 pm – of the central part of the light grille on said upper platform, relative to the transverse axis and / or relative to the vertical axis. Preferably, in order to perfectly define the relative position of the central part of the light grille with respect to the upper platform, the indexing elements of the upper platform are configured to allow such axial locking relative to the transverse axis and the vertical axis simultaneously;

[0026] - the indexing devices of the lower platform are configured to to allow axial locking – possibly with a clearance of less than 100 pm – of the central part of the light grille on said lower platform, relative to the transverse axis and / or relative to the vertical axis. Preferably, in order to perfectly define the relative position of the central part of the light grille with respect to the lower platform, the indexing devices of the lower platform are configured to allow such axial locking relative to the transverse axis and the vertical axis simultaneously;

[0027] - the indexing organs of the upper platform include a light configured to collaborate with a prismatic span of the central part of the light grille, the prismatic span extending from the central part of the light grille towards the upper platform, so as to engage with the light. Preferably, such an engagement is of the type of an engagement of complementary shapes, the prismatic span of the central part of the light grille having shapes and dimensions that allow said prismatic span - preferably without lateral play and / or without vertical play - to be introduced into the light provided on the upper platform;

[0028] - by way of non-limiting example, the light has a rectangular or square shape. Each side of the light allows for axial arrest in a direction perpendicular to the side in question. To this end, the light advantageously has a first side oriented along the transverse axis, and a second side oriented or substantially oriented along the vertical axis. Generally speaking, the light has a polygonal shape;

[0029] - the light is located at the level of an upper edge of the upper platform;

[0030] - the fastening elements include a hole provided in the platform su The upper part of the illuminated grille is secured with a mounting screw that passes through the hole. This screw is designed to engage with a tapped hole in the center of the illuminated grille. The hole is, of course, a through hole. The mounting screw is primarily oriented along the longitudinal axis. This allows the central part of the illuminated grille to be securely attached to the upper platform. This attachment is quick and easy to implement from the rear face of the bumper bracket. Finally, this advantageous configuration allows the central part of the illuminated grille to be pre-assembled on the upper platform before the bumper bracket is subsequently mounted on the vehicle. This simplifies access to the rear face of the bumper bracket for inserting and tightening the mounting screw.

[0031] - the bore forming the fastening member is located below the opening forming the indexing device, relative to the vertical axis. Additionally, the drilling is located at the level of a lower edge of the upper platform;

[0032] - the fastening members comprise at least one clipping lug extending in protruding from the upper platform, each with at least one clipping lug configured to engage by snapping with a clipping lug provided on the central part of the light grille. Preferably, the fastening members have two clipping lugs, each extending in projection from the upper platform, each clipping lug configured to engage by snapping with a clipping lug provided on the central part of the light grille;

[0033] - the clipping lugs are located at the lateral edges of the platform upper. More generally, the clipping ears are located on either side of the upper platform, relative to the transverse axis;

[0034] - each clipping ear has a wall that extends vertically above of an opening provided on the upper platform, the clipping lug extending from one edge of said opening to the other. This configuration facilitates the interaction of the clipping lug with the corresponding clipping lug, and in particular facilitates the support of the lug. clipping with the clipping ear wall. Once mounted, the clipping lug is located in an intermediate position between the upper platform - and more specifically the opening - and the clipping ear wall. This advantageous configuration allows for axial stopping of the central part of the light grille - via its clipping lug - against the clipping ear wall, relative to the longitudinal axis;

[0035] - the fastening members comprise at least one configured axial stop bearing to cooperate with the central portion of the light grille and provide axial restraint for said central portion relative to a vertical axis. The central portion of the light grille is designed to bear against at least one axial restraint. This at least one axial restraint is located at a lower edge of the upper platform. Each at least one axial restraint extends projecting from the upper platform relative to the longitudinal axis. Preferably, the fastening members comprise two axial restraints configured to cooperate with the central portion of the light grille and provide axial restraint for said central portion relative to a vertical axis. The axial restraints extend relative to the transverse and longitudinal axes from the upper platform. The axial restraints are spaced apart relative to each other relative to the transverse axis.The axial stopping spans are symmetrical to each other with respect to a medial longitudinal axis. The axial stopping spans extend in a straight line;

[0036] - the indexing devices include at least one aperture configured for The indexing devices collaborate with a support leg of the central part of the light grille, the support leg extending from the central part of the light grille towards the lower platform, so as to engage in the corresponding opening. Each opening forms a receiving area for an end portion of the opposing support leg, thus creating, for example, an isostatic bearing of the support leg on the corresponding opening. Each opening thus forms a positioning element that allows the central part of the light grille to be positioned in a predetermined and reproducible manner. Preferably, the indexing devices have two openings configured to collaborate with support legs of the central part of the light grille, each support leg extending from the central part of the light grille towards the lower platform, so as to engage in the corresponding opening.The openings are located on either side of the lower platform, relative to the transverse axis.

[0037] - the openings are located at the level of one lower side of the lower platform. In In other words, the openings are located at one end of the distal lower platform of the upper platform;

[0038] - the retaining devices are configured to prevent rotation of the part The central part of the illuminated grille is positioned relative to a transverse axis of the bumper support. Specifically, the retaining devices include a retaining rib extending above a recess configured to receive at least one retaining tab formed on the central part of the illuminated grille. In the context of the present invention, the recess is formed on a lower wall of the lower platform, said lower wall extending predominantly in a plane defined by a transverse axis and a longitudinal axis of the bumper support. The recess thus forms a receptacle for the retaining tab(s) of the central part of the illuminated grille. The recess extends in a plane defined predominantly by the transverse axis and the vertical axis. The recess thus extends predominantly above the retaining rib. The retaining rib extends predominantly along the transverse axis.

[0039] According to a second aspect of the invention, a motor vehicle is proposed comprising:

[0040] - a bumper support conforming to the first aspect of the invention or according to one of the any of its improvements;

[0041] - a bumper skin fixed securely to the bumper support;

[0042] - a luminous grille fixed securely to the bumper support, the grille luminous comprising a first lateral part, a second lateral part and a central part, the central part being fixed on the bumper support at the level of the upper platform and the lower platform of said bumper support.

[0043] Various embodiments of the invention are provided, incorporating, according to all their possible combinations, the different optional features set out here.

[0044] Other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description on the one hand, and from several illustrative and non-limiting examples of embodiments given with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings on the other hand, in which:

[0045] [Fig.1] illustrates a perspective view from a front face of an example embodiment of the bumper support according to the first aspect of the invention;

[0046] [Fig.2] illustrates a detailed view of the upper platform of the bumper support illustrated on [Fig.1];

[0048] [Fig.4] illustrates a detailed perspective view of the lower platform of the support bumper illustrated in [Fig.1] and collaborating with a central part of a light grille indexed to the bumper support.

[0049] Of course, the features, variants, and different embodiments of the invention can be combined in various ways, provided they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. In particular, variants of the invention may be conceived comprising only a selection of features, described hereafter in isolation from the other described features, if this selection of features is sufficient to confer a technical advantage or to differentiate the invention from the prior art.

[0050] In particular, all the variants and all the embodiments described are combinable with each other if nothing prevents this combination from a technical point of view.

[0051] In the figures, the elements common to several figures retain the same reference.

[0052] With reference to the FIGURES described below, a longitudinal axis X, a lateral axis and a vertical axis Z are defined relative to the motor vehicle on which the bumper support 1 according to the invention is intended to be mounted.

[0053] More specifically, the transverse axis Y is understood as a direction between one side of the motor vehicle and the opposite side of the same motor vehicle. In other words, the transverse axis Y is understood as a direction extending from a passenger side of the motor vehicle to a driver's side of the same motor vehicle, or vice versa. The adjectives lateral, inside, and outside refer to such a transverse axis Y.

[0054] Furthermore, the longitudinal axis X extends as if taken along a direction extending from front to rear or rear to front of the motor vehicle. The longitudinal axis X is perpendicular to the transverse axis Y. The adjectives front, front, and rear refer to this longitudinal axis X.

[0055] Finally, the vertical axis Z is understood as being taken along an axis which extends from the wheels of the motor vehicle and towards the roof of said motor vehicle, or vice versa, the vertical axis Z being simultaneously perpendicular to the transverse axis Y and to the longitudinal axis X. The adjectives above and below, or lower and upper, refer to this vertical axis Z.

[0056] With reference to [Fig. 1], the invention addresses a motor vehicle comprising:

[0057] - a bumper support 1 according to the invention and as described in more detail below- below, with reference to FIGURES 2 to 4, the bumper support 1 forms a mounting interface for a bumper skin fixed securely to the bumper support 1;

[0058] - a luminous grille 2 fixed securely to the bumper support 1, the grille luminous 2 comprising a first lateral part, a second lateral part and a central part, the central part being fixed on the bumper support 1 at the level of an upper platform 11 and a lower platform 12 of said bumper support 1.

[0059] As seen in [Fig.1], the bumper support 1 has a fixing area for the central part of a light grille 2 of the motor vehicle.

[0060] The illuminated grille 2 is formed of several parts, all of which are fixed to the bumper support 1 via the mounting area. In the embodiment illustrated in the FIGURES, only the central part of the illuminated grille 2 is shown. Of course, the invention is not limited to an illuminated grille 2 formed of several parts independent of each other. In other words, the invention addresses both monolithic illuminated grilles, formed of a single piece fixed securely to the bumper support 1, and those formed of several parts that are fixed to the bumper support 1 adjacently and independently of each other.

[0061] The central part of the light grille 2 is thus indexed, i.e. put in position, and held, i.e. fixed securely in a removable manner, on the bumper support 1 by means of the upper platform 11 and the lower platform 12.

[0062] The mounting area of the bumper bracket 1 forms a mounting interface for the illuminated grille 2, and more specifically for the central portion of the illuminated grille 2. The mounting area is configured to allow for reliable and robust attachment of the illuminated grille 2, and is removable. The mounting area comprises several elements that work together to position and secure the central portion of the illuminated grille 2 onto the bumper bracket 1. In particular, the upper platform 11 and the lower platform 12 each form a receiving site for the central portion of the illuminated grille 2. The upper platform 11 and the lower platform 12 are formed from the same material as the main body of the bumper bracket 1.

[0063] Thus, according to the invention, and as shown in FIGURES 2 to 4, the fixing area comprises:

[0064] - the upper platform 11 for attaching the central part of the grille luminous 2, the upper platform 11 comprising fixing members 111 and indexing members 112 of said central part of the luminous grille 2. The fixing members 111 allow to fix securely a first part of the central part of the luminous grille 2, while the indexing members 112 allow to define a single assembly position of the central part of the luminous grille 2 on the upper platform 11 and, finally, on the bumper support 1;

[0065] - the lower platform 12 for attaching the central part of the light grille 2, the lower mounting platform 12 comprising indexing devices 221 and retaining devices 222 for the central part of the illuminated grille 2. The retaining devices 222 work in conjunction with the mounting elements 111 of the upper platform 11 and prevent the central part of the illuminated grille 2 from tilting, particularly during installation. The retaining devices 222 provide axial support, preferably along the longitudinal axis X. The indexing devices 221, together with the indexing elements 112 of the upper platform 11, define a single assembly position for the central part of the illuminated grille 2 on the bumper support 1.

[0066] With reference to FIGURES 2 and 3, the upper platform 11 forms a receiving and fixing site for an upper portion of the central part of the light grille 2. In particular, the upper platform 11 is configured to allow axial stopping of the central part of the light grille 2 against said upper platform 11, relative to the longitudinal axis X. In other words, the upper platform 11 forms a support surface for the central part of the light grille 2, the central part of the grille being brought forward and pressed against the upper platform 11 by means of a translation along the longitudinal axis X.

[0067] In the embodiment illustrated in FIGURES 2 and 3, the indexing members 112 of the upper platform 11 allow axial locking – optionally with a clearance of less than 100 pm – of the central part of the light grille 2 on said upper platform 11, relative to the transverse axis Y and relative to the vertical axis Z, simultaneously. For this purpose, the indexing members 112 include a slot 1121 – visible in [Fig. 2] – configured to cooperate with a prismatic bearing 21 of the central part of the light grille 2 – visible in [Fig. 3]. The prismatic bearing 21 extends from the central part of the light grille 2 towards the upper platform 11, so as to engage with the slot 1121. As visible in [Fig. 3], the indexing members 112 of the upper platform 11 allow axial locking – possibly with a clearance of less than 100 pm – of the central part of the light grille 2 on said upper platform 11, relative to the transverse axis Y and relative to the vertical axis Z, simultaneously. For this purpose, the indexing members 112 include a slot 1121 – visible in [Fig. 2] – configured to cooperate with a prismatic bearing 21 of the central part of the light grille 2 – visible in [Fig. 3]. The prismatic bearing 21 extends from the central part of the light grille 2 towards the upper platform 11, so as to engage with the slot 1121.[3], the prismatic bearing 21 engages in the light 1121, by engaging complementary shapes, so that the prismatic bearing 21 is abutted against at least one of the sides of the light 1121, or even against several adjacent or opposite sides in order to achieve a stop along the transverse axis Y and / or the vertical axis Z. For this purpose, the prismatic bearing 21 of the central part of the light grille 2 has shapes and dimensions complementary to those of the light 1121, so as to allow its introduction - preferably without lateral play and / or without vertical play - into the light 1121 arranged on the upper platform 11.

[0068] As can be seen in [Fig. 2], the light 1121 has a rectangular or square shape. Each side of the light 1121 allows for axial stopping in one direction perpendicular to the side in question.

[0069] In order to allow quick and detachable attachment of the central part of the illuminated grille 2 to the upper platform 11 of the bumper support 1, the fastening members 111 comprise:

[0070] - a bore 1111 arranged in the upper platform 11, and;

[0071] - a fixing screw 1112 passing through the hole 1111, the fixing screw 1112 being configured to collaborate with a tapped hole - not visible in the FIGURES - fitted on the central part of the light grille 2.

[0072] The fixing screw 1112 is predominantly oriented along the longitudinal axis X, and the bore 1111 forming the fixing member 111 is located below the light 1121 forming the indexing member 112, relative to the vertical axis Z.

[0073] To facilitate the mounting of the upper part of the illuminated grille 2 onto the bumper support 1, it is advantageous to provide a quick-release pre-holding device, allowing the central part of the illuminated grille 2 to be temporarily secured to the upper platform 11 during its mounting. For this purpose, the fastening members 111 include at least one clipping lug 1113 – and preferably two clipping lugs 1113 in the embodiment illustrated in FIGURES 2 and 3. Each clipping lug 1113 extends projecting from the upper platform 11. Each clipping lug 1113 is configured to engage with a clipping lug 22 provided on the central part of the illuminated grille 2 and visible in [Fig. 3].In particular, each clipping lug 1113 has a wall extending vertically above an opening 1114 provided on the upper platform 11, the clipping lug 1113 extending from one edge to the other of said opening 1114.

[0074] This configuration facilitates the collaboration of the clipping lug 22 with the corresponding clipping ear 1113, and in particular facilitates the bearing of the clipping lug 22 with the wall of the clipping ear 1113. Thus, the fixing members 111 make it possible both to facilitate the mounting of the central part of the light grille 2 on the upper platform 11, and also to limit the vibrations of said central part of the light grille 2 when the motor vehicle on which the bumper support 1 is mounted is in motion.

[0075] Finally, in order to further improve the strength, particularly against vibrations, and to facilitate the mounting of the central part of the illuminated grille 2 onto the upper platform 11 of the bumper support 1, the fastening members 111 have two axial stop bearing surfaces 1115 configured to cooperate with the central part of the illuminated grille 2 and provide axial restraint of said central part, relative to a vertical axis Z. The axial stop bearing surfaces 1115 extend relative to the transverse axis Y and the longitudinal axis X, from the upper platform 11. The stop bearing surfaces thus form a shoulder for the central part of the light grille 2, opposite the vertical axis Z.

[0076] The lower platform 12 of the bumper support 1 is described with reference to [Fig. 4]. In this embodiment, the indexing devices 221 of the lower platform 12 have two holes 1211 configured to cooperate with support legs 24 of the central part of the light grille 2, each support leg 24 extending from the central part of the light grille 2 towards the lower platform 12, so as to engage in the corresponding hole 1211. The holes 1211 are located on either side of the lower platform 12, relative to the transverse axis Y. Each hole 1211 forms a receiving area for an end portion of the opposing support leg 24, so as to form, for example, an isostatic bearing of the support leg 24 on the corresponding hole 1211.Each opening 1211 thus forms a positioning element that allows the central part of the light grille 2 to be positioned in a predetermined and reproducible manner. Preferably, the indexing devices 221 comprise .

[0077] The holes 1211 are located at one end of the lower platform 12 distal to the upper platform 11.

[0078] Finally, the retaining devices 222 of the lower platform 12 are configured to prevent rotation of the central part of the illuminated grille 2 relative to a transverse axis Y of the bumper support 1. In particular, the retaining devices 222 include a retaining rib 1221 extending above a recess configured to receive at least one retaining tab 23 provided on the central part of the illuminated grille 2. The recess thus forms a receptacle for the retaining tab(s) of the central part of the illuminated grille 2. The recess extends in a plane defined predominantly by the transverse axis Y and the vertical axis Z and is perpendicular to the retaining rib 1221. The retaining rib 1221 extends predominantly along the transverse axis Y.

[0079] In summary, the invention relates to a bumper support 1 for a motor vehicle, the bumper support 1 comprising a mounting area for a central part of a luminous grille 2 of the motor vehicle, the mounting area comprising:

[0080] - an upper platform 11 for attaching the central part of the grille luminous 2, the upper platform 11 comprising fixing elements 111 and indexing elements 112 of said central part of the luminous grille 2;

[0081] - a lower platform 12 for attaching the central part of the grille luminous 2, the lower mounting platform 12 comprising indexing devices 221 and retaining devices 222 of said central part of the illuminated grille 2.

[0082] Of course, the invention is not limited to the examples just described, and many modifications can be made to these examples without departing from the scope of the invention. In particular, the various features, forms, variants, and embodiments of the invention can be combined with one another in various ways, provided they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. In particular, all the variants and embodiments described above are combinable.
