AI Technical Summary
Existing headrest designs for motor vehicle seats face challenges in accommodating geared motors within the first body due to the space occupied by large male and female parts, which are necessary for reliable sliding mounting, especially in headrests of low overall volume.
The headrest design fixes the first geared motor to the spacer and the first nut to the first body, while the second geared motor is fixed to the second body and the second nut is fixed to the first body, allowing for a compact first body without mounting the geared motors within it.
This arrangement enables the use of a very compact first body, resulting in a headrest with a small footprint, while ensuring reliable sliding mounting and adjusted contact between male and female parts.

Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Headrest for a motor vehicle seat
[0001] The invention relates to a headrest for a motor vehicle seat.
[0002] It is known to produce a headrest for a motor vehicle seat, said headrest comprising: • a mounting frame on a back of said seat, said frame comprising two parallel metal rods extending vertically, said rods having two upper ends connected to each other by a transverse spacer, • a first body mounted to slide vertically on said frame so that it can be adjusted in height, said first body being provided with female parts extending longitudinally, • a first geared motor for actuating said first sliding body, said geared motor actuating in rotation a first threaded rod screwing into a first nut, • a second body mounted to slide longitudinally on said first body, so that said second body can be adjusted in a longitudinal direction, said second body being secured to a wall supporting the head of a passenger, said second body being provided with male parts extending longitudinally and each cooperating with a respective female part, • a second geared motor for actuating said second sliding body, said geared motor rotating a second threaded rod screwing into a second nut.
[0003] The association of the bodies with each other by means of male and female parts makes it possible to ensure reliable sliding mounting of the second body on the first.
[0004] However, such reliable sliding requires the implementation of large male and female parts, in order to ensure good rigidity of the assembly.
[0005] As a result, the first body sees its volume occupied in a notable manner by the aforementioned female parts.
[0006] Consequently, the first body may have insufficient residual volume to allow the mounting of geared motors within it, particularly in the case of a headrest of low overall volume.
[0007] The invention aims to propose an arrangement making it possible to solve this problem.
[0008] To this end, the invention proposes a headrest for a motor vehicle seat, said headrest comprising:

[0010]
[0011]
[0012]
[0013]
[0014]
[0015] • a mounting frame on a back of said seat, said frame comprising two parallel metal rods extending vertically, said rods having two upper ends connected to each other by a transverse spacer, • a first body mounted to slide vertically on said frame so that it can be adjusted in height, said first body being provided with female parts extending longitudinally, • a first geared motor for actuating said first sliding body, said geared motor actuating in rotation a first threaded rod screwing into a first nut, • a second body mounted to slide longitudinally on said first body, so that said second body can be adjusted in a longitudinal direction, said second body being secured to a wall supporting the head of a passenger, said second body being provided with male parts extending longitudinally and each cooperating with a respective female part, • a second geared motor for actuating said second sliding body, said geared motor actuating in rotation a second threaded rod screwing into a second nut said headrest also having the following characteristics: • said first geared motor is fixed to said spacer and said first nut is fixed to said first body, • said second geared motor is fixed to said second body and said second nut is fixed to said first body. It is specified here that, in this description, the terms of positioning in space (top, bottom, upper, longitudinal, transverse, lateral, front, vertical, below, etc.) are taken with reference to the headrest arranged in the vehicle in use, said vehicle extending longitudinally along its length (X axis), transversely along its width (Y axis) and vertically along its height (Z axis). With the proposed arrangement, none of the geared motors are mounted in the first body, which makes it possible to use a first body that can be very compact and therefore to produce a headrest with a small footprint. Other features and advantages of the invention will appear in the following description, given with reference to the attached figures, in which: [Fig.l] is a partial schematic perspective view of a headrest according to one embodiment, [Fig.2] is a view similar to [Fig.l] from another angle. With reference to the figures, a headrest 1 of a motor vehicle seat is described, said headrest comprising: • a frame 2 for mounting on a back of said seat, said frame comprising two parallel metal rods 3 - in particular tubular - extending vertically, said rods having two upper ends 4 connected to each other - in particular by fitting - by a transverse spacer 5 - in particular based on molded plastic material -, • a first body 6 mounted to slide vertically on said frame so that it can be adjusted in height, said first body being provided with female parts 7 extending longitudinally, • a first geared motor 8 for actuating said first sliding body, said geared motor actuating in rotation a first threaded rod 9 screwing into a first nut 10, • a second body 11 mounted to slide longitudinally on said first body, so that said second body can be adjusted in a longitudinal direction, said second body being secured to a support wall 12 of the head of a passenger, said second body being provided with male parts 13 extending longitudinally and each cooperating with a respective female part 7, • a second geared motor 14 for actuating said second sliding body, said geared motor actuating in rotation a second threaded rod 15 screwing into a second nut 16,
[0016] said headrest further having the following characteristics: • said first geared motor is fixed to said spacer and said first nut is fixed to said first body, • said second geared motor is fixed to said second body and said second nut is fixed to said first body.
[0017] According to one embodiment, the first body 6 fits into a parallelepiped envelope with vertical, longitudinal and transverse dimensions respectively less than 65, 45 and 180 mm, such dimensions making it complex to install geared motors 8, 14 which may have a diameter of 30 to 40 mm, which argues in favor of mounting said geared motors outside said first body.
[0018] According to the embodiment shown, the headrest 1 comprises two male parts 13 arranged on the periphery of the second body 11 and facing each other along two opposite edges of said second body, said male parts being in the form of tenons having, in longitudinal view, a shape fitting into a trapezoid having a large base 17 facing inwards and a small base 18 facing outwards, said tenons sliding in two respective female parts 7 in the form of mortises of shapes complementary to those of said tenons, said mortises closing by said small base towards the outside, so as to form an assembly by “dovetails”.
[0019] According to a variant not shown, the male parts 13 are in the form of profiles - for example of triangular or rectangular section - each sliding in a respective female part 7 in the form of an orifice of section complementary to that of said profiles.
[0020] It is observed that with such an arrangement, it is necessary to provide a significant quantity of profiles - in particular at least four -, which requires as many corresponding orifices minimizing the space remaining available in the first body 6 and making the installation of geared motors 8, 14 in said body very complex.
[0021] According to the embodiment shown, a blade 19 made of metal with an elastically retractable spring is mounted on a female part 7, said blade bearing on the corresponding male part 13, so as to ensure adjusted contact between said parts.
[0022] In the embodiment shown using tenons and mortises, the adjusted contact can be ensured by two blades 19 (only one being visible in the figures) arranged respectively at the top and bottom of the first body 6, said blades being moreover laterally opposite, which makes it possible to ensure both vertical and transverse centering while minimizing the number of said blades.
[0023] According to an embodiment not shown, the second body 11 is provided with two wings for lateral support of the head of a passenger, said wings being mounted laterally on either side of said body and rotating so as to be able to be adjusted angularly.
[0024] It is possible to provide for locking of the wings in the chosen adjustment position by friction or by a locking means.
[0025] According to the embodiment shown, the first geared motor 8 is mounted on the spacer 5 so that the first rod 9 extends below said geared motor and said spacer, so that said rod cannot form a potentially dangerous projection for an occupant of the seat.
[0026] According to the embodiment shown, the second geared motor 14 is fixed to the front of the second body 11, the second rod 15 extending behind said geared motor, said geared motor being covered by the support wall 12, so as to move said second rod away from the head of an occupant of the seat so that it cannot form a potentially dangerous projection.
