[0031] Unless otherwise specified, the expressions "about", "approximately", "substantially", and "of the order of" mean to within 10%, preferably to within 5%.

[0032] The embodiments described below relate to an electronic device suitable for implementing a transaction handling sensitive information. Sensitive information is herein defined as one or more data items whose access is restricted to one or more persons and / or one or more electronic devices. Such a transaction is, for example, a banking transaction.

[0033] The embodiments described below comprise a first secure element (Secure element, SE) adapted to implement said transaction, but also a second secure element adapted to implement one or more ancillary functions of the electronic device in a secure manner using data from said transaction. The two secure elements are distinct and are adapted to receive the same sensitive information. The advantages and details of these embodiments are described in relation to Figures 1 to 4.

[0034] [Fig.l] represents, very schematically and in the form of blocks, an electronic device 100 (DEVICE) according to one embodiment.

[0035] The electronic device 100 is adapted to implement a transaction, and, in particular, a transaction using sensitive data with another electronic device. The other electronic device is generally external to the device 100. For this, the electronic device 100 comprises a first secure element 101 (SE1) adapted to implement the transaction. This first secure element is, for example, adapted to implement a software application executing the transaction securely.

[0036] To implement the transaction, the device 100 further comprises connection terminals 102 (PIN) and / or an antenna 103 (ANT) making it possible to establish communication with the other electronic device.

[0037] According to one example, the connection terminals 102 allow the electronic device to implement wired communication with the other device. The connection terminals 102 are connected to the first secure element 101, and allow it to be provided with data, for example, sensitive data, to implement the transaction.

[0038] According to one example, the antenna 103 allows the electronic device to implement wireless communication with the other device. According to one example, the antenna 103 can allow Near Field Communication (NFC) to be implemented. Like the connection terminals 102, the antenna 103 is connected to the first secure element 101, and allows data to be provided to it, for example, sensitive data, to implement the transaction.

[0039] Thus, when the electronic device comprises the terminals 102 and the antenna 103, the first secure element 101 can, indifferently, implement the transaction using the terminals 102 or the antenna 103.

[0040] The device 100 further comprises a second secure element 104 (SE2) adapted to receive the same information, i.e. the same data, for example, the same sensitive data, as the first secure element 101, and also to implement an additional functionality of the electronic device 100. More particularly, the secure element 104 is connected to the terminals 102 and / or to the antenna 103 in the same way as the first secure element 101.

[0041] To implement the additional functionality, the electronic device 100 further comprises a circuit 105 (FCT), implementing this functionality, which is controlled by the secure element 104. The circuit 105 may, for example, be a display means, such as a screen or light-emitting diodes, a biometric control means, such as a fingerprint sensor, etc. According to another, the circuit 105 may be a sensor control device, or a memory.

[0042] According to the particular example shown in [Fig.l], the circuit 105 comprises a control circuit 1051 (DRIVER) and a screen 1052 (SCREEN) adapted to display one or more pieces of information concerning the transaction.

[0043] According to a preferred embodiment, the electronic device 100 is a card adapted to implement a transaction, such as a bank card or a transport card, comprising a screen making it possible to display one or more pieces of information concerning the transaction. According to a first example, the card is a bank card and the screen makes it possible to display a card validation code, also CVC code or CW code. According to a second example, the card is a transport card and the screen makes it possible to display a remaining transport ticket balance. According to a third example, the card can be a car key, the circuit 105 can allow the display or use of a functionality specific to the use of a car. According to a fourth example, the card may be a smart ticket card or an access control card in which circuit 105 may enable the display of a number of tickets remaining on the card.

[0044] The operation of the device 100 is as follows. When the electronic device 100 implements a transaction with another electronic device, data, for example sensitive data, is received, for example, at the terminals 102 and / or the antenna 103. This data is transmitted to the two secure elements 101 and 104. The first secure element 101 uses this data, in a secure manner, to actually implement the transaction. The second secure element 104 uses this data, in a secure manner, to implement, if necessary, the functionality of the circuit 105. [Fig. 2] presents a more detailed example of operation of the device 100.

[0045] An advantage of the device 100 is that it allows an electronic device to implement, in a secure manner, a transaction, but also an additional functionality without modifying the secure element implementing said transaction.

[0046] A second advantage of the device 100 is that the secure element 104 and the circuit 105 can be added to already existing electronic devices, without requiring major modifications to their architecture.

[0047] [Fig.2] includes timing diagrams making it possible to describe, in more detail, a mode of operation of the device 100 described in relation to [Fig.1].

[0048] [Fig.2] includes the following timing diagrams: - a timing diagram SE1 representing the evolution of the state of the first secure element 101; - a timing diagram SE2 representing the evolution of the state of the second secure element 104; - a VCCOUT timing diagram representing the evolution of a supply voltage of the control circuit 1051; and - a DRIVER timing diagram represents the evolution of the state of the 1051 control circuit.

[0049] In an initial state t0, the secure elements 101 and 104 receive data concerning a transaction. More particularly, the secure elements 101 and 104 receive a command to start a transaction. The secure elements 101 and 104 are then in a state of receiving a CMD command. The control circuit 1051 is not powered and is therefore not in operation.

[0050] At a state t1, following the state t0, the secure elements 101 and 104 have received the command and move to a Processing command processing state. This state takes more or less time depending on the secure element, since each secure element 101 and 104 processes the received data differently.

[0051] According to one example, at a state t2, following the state t1, the second secure element 104 finishes processing the command before the first secure element 101. According to one example, the second secure element 104 concludes from the received data that it must start the circuit 105. For this, the secure element 104 starts the supply voltage VCCOUT, which therefore goes to a high state. The control circuit 1051 then goes into a state of receiving a COMM communication.

[0052] According to one example, at a state t3, following the state t2, the secure element 101 finishes processing the command. According to one variant, the times t2 and t3 can be reversed. According to one example, the secure element 101 implements the transaction by sending a response, and therefore enters a response sending state RSP.

[0053] At a state t4, following state t2, the control circuit 1051 is able to control the circuit 1052, it then passes into an Update Disp control state where it can do so. According to an example, if the circuit 1052 is a display screen, the control circuit 1051 sends the data necessary to update the display of the circuit 1052.

[0054] [Fig. 3] represents, schematically and partially in the form of blocks, an electronic device 300 (DEVICE) according to an embodiment, of the type of device 100 described in relation to [Fig. 1].

[0055] Like the device 100, the electronic device 300 comprises: - a first secure element 301 (SE1), of the type of secure element 101, adapted to implement a transaction; - a second secure element 302 (SE2), of the type of secure element 104; - a circuit 303, of the type of circuit 105, adapted to implement an additional function of the device 300, and to be controlled by the second secure element 302; - connection terminals 304 (PIN), of the type of connection terminals 102, suitable for implementing wired communication; and - an antenna 305, of the type of antenna 103, represented in the form of a coil, and making it possible to implement wireless communication.

[0056] As in the device 100, in the device 300, the secure elements 301 and 302 are adapted to receive the same data. The diode D301 allows the first secure element 301 to have a reference terminal isolated from the general reference terminal GND_300. According to one example, the diode D301 is a conventional diode. According to a preferred embodiment, the diode D301 is a Schottky diode which has a lower threshold voltage than a conventional diode.

[0059] In addition, according to an example, the second secure element 302 comprises four diodes D3021, D3022, D3023, and D3024 and a load R3021 represented by a resistor. According to an example, the anode of the diode D3021 is connected, preferably connected, to the node IN3001, and the cathode of the diode D3021 is connected, preferably connected, to a first terminal of the load R3021. The anode of the diode D3021 is connected, preferably connected, to the node IN3002, and the cathode of the diode D3022 is connected, preferably connected, to the first terminal of the load R3021. The cathode of diode D3023 is connected, preferably connected, to node IN3002, and the anode of diode D3023 is connected, preferably connected, to a second terminal of load R3021. The cathode of diode D3024 is connected, preferably connected, to node IN3001, and the anode of diode D3024 is connected, preferably connected, to the second terminal of load R3021.

[0060] According to one embodiment, the second secure element comprises a reference terminal GND_302, connected, preferably connected, to the second terminal of the load R3021. The diode D302 allows the second secure element 302 to have a reference terminal isolated from the general reference terminal GND_300, and from the reference terminal GND_301 of the first secure element. According to one example, diode D302 is a conventional diode. According to a preferred embodiment, diode D302 is a Schottky diode.

[0061] According to an example, the second secure element further comprises a resistor R3022 connecting the first terminal of the load R3021 to a terminal EXT302. The terminal EXT302 is a terminal of the second secure element 302 connected, preferably connected, to the circuit 303 to provide it with a supply voltage VCCOUT or a control voltage. According to an example, the supply voltage VCCOUT is taken between the terminal EXT302 and the reference terminal GND_302 of the secure element 302.

[0062] According to one example, the input of the circuit 303 is connected to the terminal EXT302 of the second secure element 302, but also to the reference terminal GND_302 via a filtering capacitor C303.
