Description

Title of the invention: Filtration pump for swimming pools, spas and whirlpools, self-adapting according to the temperature of the bathing water.

[0001] The present invention relates to a filtration pump for swimming pools, spas and whirlpools which adapts its power and therefore its flow rate according to the temperature of the bathing water; this temperature is measured using a temperature probe installed on the pump.

[0002] Existing filtration pumps are currently programmable with time slots, which requires the user to regularly adjust their settings depending on the seasons.

[0003] Current methods have several drawbacks: • They require the user to be extremely vigilant about the time slot settings of their pump, throughout the period of use, depending on weather information; • They require the user to have a high level of knowledge in adjusting pump flow rates, depending on water temperature and weather conditions; • Incorrect adjustment of the pump time slots by the user leads to an unfavorable energy balance (excessive electricity consumption or too short filtration time which makes filtration ineffective); • Current pumps are not protected against freezing; • Current pumps do not control other devices.

[0004] The invention consists of a filtration pump system for swimming pools, spas and whirlpools, self-adapting according to the temperature of the bathing water. The motor of the filtration pump adapts its power and therefore its flow rate according to the temperature of the bathing water; this temperature is measured using a temperature sensor installed on the pump. A program, installed within a control module, adapts a power according to a temperature. An Auto mode control button (9) makes it possible to adapt the power of the pump according to the temperature of the bathing water recorded by the temperature sensor. During operation in Auto mode, the pump performs cycles at maximum power, for a given time every hour, in order to obtain regular skimming of the body of water. A Stop mode button (10) makes it possible to cut off the operation of the pump.During this period, if the temperature sensor indicates less than 1°C, the pump operates in order to protect the hydraulic system from freezing. A mode button 100 . % (11) allows the pump to operate at 100% of its power; thus, during this period, the user can carry out, for example, sand filter backwashes, chemical treatment requiring increased water mixing or even increased skimming of the water body. Without pressing the Auto or Stop buttons, the pump operates at 100% of its capacity, indefinitely.

[0005] The invention solves the problems mentioned above thanks to the following characteristics: • Since water temperature is the most important parameter for regulating a volume of water to be treated over a given time, the pump adapts its filtration power according to the temperature of the bathing water. Once the initial settings have been made, no further adjustments are necessary during the life of the installation; • The device does not require the user to have a high level of knowledge in adjusting pump flow rates according to water temperature and weather conditions; • The device ensures optimum energy balance for filtration • The pump is protected against frost; • The pump prohibits the operation of an automatic chemical treatment device if the flow rate is too low; • The pump does not allow an electrolyser to operate if the temperature is too low.

[0006] The attached drawings illustrate the invention:

[0007] [Fig. 1] is a diagram of the pump.

[0008] [Fig.2] is a detailed representation of the control box.

[0009] The pump is composed of a variable speed DC motor (1), a control box (2) (which can be removed from the pump if necessary), a temperature sensor (3), a water inlet (4), a water outlet (5) and a pump body (6). The control box (2) is composed of a control keypad (7) for adjusting the adjustable parameters, a display screen (8), a key for setting to Auto-adaptation mode (8), a Stop key which stops the pump (9), a 100% key which forces the pump to operate at 100% of its capacity (10), a dry contact for communicating with treatment devices (11), a dry contact for communicating with an electrolyser (12), an input for the electrical power supply connection of the pump (13).

[0010] The pump operation has three positions, easily accessible from the keys (9), (10) and (11) of the control box (2).

[0011] The Auto control button (9) allows the power of the pump to be adapted according to the temperature of the bathing water recorded by the temperature sensor (3). Pump power depends on the temperatures and is factory-set. The power settings can be changed from the keypad (7). Power settings are made degree by degree, from 1 to 29°C. From 29°C, the default setting is 100% of the pump capacity (factory setting can be changed). Below 1°C, the pump operates at 30% of its capacity to protect the hydraulic system from freezing (factory setting can be changed). For example, in the factory setting, when the bathing water temperature is 25°C, the pump operates at 60% of its capacity, but the user can change this power. During operation in Auto mode, the pump automatically starts operating at 100% of its capacity, for a set time every hour (10 minutes for the factory setting and can be set by the user), to ensure proper skimming of the water.

[0012] The Stop control button (10) is used to stop the pump from operating. During this period, if the temperature sensor indicates less than 1°C, the pump operates at 30% of its capacity, in order to protect the hydraulic system from freezing (factory setting can be modified). The Stop position can also be used by the user when cleaning the pump or a sand filter.

[0013] The 100% control button (11) allows the pump to operate at 100% of its power. During this period, the user can carry out, for example, sand filter backwashes, chemical treatment requiring increased water mixing, or even increased skimming of the water body. Without pressing the Auto or Stop buttons, the pump operates at 100% of its capacity, indefinitely.

[0014] The control screen (8) allows you to view the temperature of the bathing water, as well as the instantaneous power consumed by the pump.

[0015] The keyboard (7) allows you to enter the factory settings in order to modify the power or temperature settings.

[0016] The inlet for an electric cable (14) allows the pump to be supplied with electricity.

[0017] The input for an electric cable (13) corresponds to a dry contact output normally closed which prevents the operation of an automatic treatment device (e.g. pH control). If the pump flow rate is insufficient, the contact opens. In the factory setting, if the pump power is less than 20% of its capacity, the contact is open, which prevents the injection of a product which could not be correctly dissolved in the pool due to the low pump flow rate.

[0018] The input for an electric cable (12) corresponds to a normally closed dry contact which prevents the operation of a swimming pool electrolyser, if the temperature is too low. Below 15°C (modifiable parameter), the contact opens and prevents the operation of the electrolysis.

[0019] Simplified summary of pump operation: • Pressing the 100% button = pump operation at 100% of its capacity for an indefinite time (as long as the Auto or Stop buttons are not pressed). • Press the Stop button = the pump does not work, unless the temperature drops below 1°C. • Press the Auto button = the pump operates by adapting its speed and therefore its flow rate according to the temperature of the bathing water / Every hour, the pump starts an operating cycle at 100%, for a defined time (factory setting: 10 minutes), in order to obtain satisfactory skimming of the body of water. • Outputs (12) and (13): if the pump operates below 20% of its power, the dry contact of output (13) opens and prevents the injection of chemicals; if the pump operates with bathing water whose temperature is below 15°C, the dry contact of output (12) opens and prevents an electrolyser from operating.
