Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Bumper system for an agricultural machinery wheel. Technical field
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of agricultural machinery, in particular autonomous agricultural machinery.
[0002] More specifically, the invention relates to a bumper system for wheels of such agricultural machinery. STATE OF THE ART
[0003] It is known in the prior art that an agricultural machine, in particular an autonomous agricultural machine, includes at least one bumper system configured to protect mechanical components of said machine as well as the environment, for example a wheel and other components of the agricultural machine's drivetrain, in the event of a collision with an obstacle. Known bumper systems generally have the disadvantage of lacking robustness, particularly due to the duration of an emergency sequence including braking and stopping the machine, followed by a recovery maneuver. Indeed, from the moment the collision is detected, and especially in the case of an autonomous machine, the movement of the agricultural machine may be sufficient to cause, at best, damage to the bumper system, and sometimes damage to the mechanical components protected by the bumper system.
[0004] To overcome this problem, it is known to limit the forward speed of the agricultural machine, thereby necessarily reducing its productivity and efficiency. Agricultural machinery equipped with a sensor for anticipating a collision, for example using a LiDAR sensor, is also known. Such a solution requires significant software control, and regulatory safety standards are not easily met.
[0005] The invention aims to address at least some of these drawbacks by proposing a bumper system whose risk of deterioration is significantly reduced, ensuring a better protection function for the mechanical components of an agricultural machine. PRESENTATION OF THE INVENTION
[0006] More specifically, the invention relates to a bumper system for a wheel of an agricultural machine, in particular an autonomous one, the bumper system comprising: • a protective plate pivotally connected to the chassis of the agricultural machine along a first axis substantially parallel to an axis of rotation of the wheel of the agricultural machine, the protective plate being movable between a initial position in which the protective plate extends forward and away from the wheel relative to a direction of travel of the agricultural machine and a contact position in which the protective plate is in contact with the wheel tire; • a movable activation bar between an initial position in which the activation bar extends forward and away from the protective plate relative to the direction of travel of the agricultural machine and an activation position.
[0007] The bumper system is configured so that, if the activation bar comes into contact with an obstacle and the obstacle exerts a force on the activation bar exceeding a first threshold, the activation bar moves from its initial position to its activation position. The activation bar, in passing, actuates a control device configured to trigger an emergency sequence of the agricultural machine, including braking and automatic stopping of the agricultural machine. The bumper system is further configured so that, if the protective plate comes into contact with the obstacle and the obstacle exerts a force on the protective plate exceeding a second threshold, the protective plate pivots around the first axis from its initial position to its contact position.
[0008] Thanks to this combination of features, such a bumper system allows for the activation of an emergency sequence before any contact between the protective plate and an obstacle. Furthermore, the risk of damage to such a plate or to the mechanical components of the agricultural machinery, particularly a wheel and the wheel-chassis connection, is significantly reduced by inducing a pivoting movement of the protective plate in the event of a collision with an obstacle before the end of the emergency sequence. Moreover, this movement of the protective plate contributes to a gradual application of the contact force of the obstacle on the wheel and to bringing the agricultural machinery to a stop, thereby absorbing some of the kinetic energy resulting from the collision.
[0009] Advantageously, the activation bar is pivotally connected to the protective plate along a second axis substantially parallel to the wheel's axis of rotation. The control element comprises a cam, a roller, and a switch. The cam is integral with the activation bar and configured such that, when the activation bar pivots from its initial position to its activation position, a pivoting of the cam induces a displacement of the roller toward the switch, thereby triggering the switch to activate the agricultural machine's emergency sequence. In this configuration, the switch is only engaged when the roller is displaced by the cam, that is, when the force exerted by the object on the bar A simple activation is sufficient to rotate the activation bar to the activation position. This significantly reduces the risk of the emergency sequence being triggered unintentionally, for example by vegetation or mud splashes.
[0010] Advantageously, in the activation position, the activation bar extends at least partially in a position opposite to the direction of travel of the agricultural machine. In such a configuration, the risk of damage to the activation bar in the event of excessive force is significantly reduced, as contact with the obstacle is broken once the first threshold is exceeded.
[0011] Advantageously, the bumper system includes a first return element for the activation bar, the first return element being configured to move the activation bar from its activation position to its initial position. In such a configuration, the activation bar is configured to return to its initial position, in particular after a maneuver to clear the agricultural vehicle from the obstacle.
[0012] Advantageously, the activation bar is preloaded by means of at least one pin in contact with a stop in the initial position, the contact between the pin and the stop being ensured by a return member force equal to the first activation threshold.
[0013] Advantageously, the bumper system includes a second return element for the protective plate, the second return element being configured to rotate the protective plate around the second axis from its contact position to its initial position. In such a configuration, the protective plate is configured to return to its initial position after a maneuver of the agricultural machine to clear the obstacle.
[0014] Advantageously, the protective plate is preloaded by means of at least one chain in mechanical tension between two eyelets in the initial position, one eyelet being attached to the chassis of the agricultural machine and the other eyelet being attached to the protective plate.
[0015] Advantageously, the protective plate includes a projecting edge in a direction opposite to the direction of travel, the edge being configured to be in contact with the wheel of the agricultural machine in the contact position of the protective plate, the edge further defining a housing configured to receive the control element. In such a configuration, the housing receiving the control element protects it from the external environment, and the risk of the control element being crushed between the protective plate and the wheel of the agricultural machine is reduced.
[0016] Advantageously, the first activation threshold is at least 15 N.
[0017] Advantageously, the second activation threshold is between 1 and 40 times the first activation threshold.
[0018] Advantageously, the thresholds are adapted so that vertical and / or horizontal accelerations relative to the ground, for example due to vibrations or abrupt changes in topography during the advancement of the agricultural machine, are insufficient to move the activation bar and the protective plate.
[0019] According to another aspect of the invention, it relates to an agricultural machine, in particular autonomous, comprising a chassis and a plurality of wheels, each wheel rotating around an axis of rotation so that the agricultural machine moves in a direction of advancement, the agricultural machine further comprising at least one bumper system as described above, covering at least partially one wheel of the agricultural machine, each bumper system being further configured to control an emergency sequence of the agricultural machine, including in particular braking and automatic stopping of the agricultural machine.
[0020] The invention also relates to other types of vehicles equipped with the bumper according to the invention as briefly described above, in particular autonomous vehicles such as driverless transport vehicles, also referred to as AGVs (for Automatic Guided Vehicle), mobile robots, etc. PRESENTATION OF THE FIGURES

[0027] The invention relates in particular to an agricultural machine 1, for example, a self-propelled agricultural machine. The agricultural machine 1 is, for example, a self-propelled or non-self-propelled straddle tractor for crops, such as vines. The agricultural machine 1 comprises a chassis and a plurality of wheels 3. Each wheel 3 rotates about an axis of rotation substantially parallel to the transverse axis Y, as illustrated in [Fig. 1], so as to allow the agricultural machine 3 to move in a direction of travel. The direction of travel in [Fig. 1] is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis X. The wheel 3 preferably comprises a tire.
[0028] At least one wheel 3 of the agricultural machine 1 is, according to another aspect of the invention, at least partially covered by a bumper system 2 as illustrated in [Fig. 1]. Preferably, each wheel 3 of the agricultural machine 1 is at least partially covered by a bumper system 2. The bumper system 2 is configured to protect the wheel 3 from the external environment of the agricultural machine 1 and conversely the environment of the wheel, for example in the event of a collision with an obstacle.
[0029] The bumper system 2 thus comprises a protective plate 4 pivotally connected to the chassis of the agricultural machine 1, along a first axis substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the wheel 3 of the agricultural machine. The protective plate 4 is movable between an initial position in which the protective plate 4 extends forward and away from the wheel 3 relative to the direction of travel of the agricultural machine 1, and a contact position in which the protective plate 4 is in contact with the wheel 3 or, where applicable, the tire of the wheel 3.
[0030] The bumper system 2 further includes an activation bar 6 movable between an initial position in which the activation bar 6 extends at least partly forward and away from the protective plate 4 relative to the direction of advance of the agricultural machine 1 and an activation position.
[0031] In the illustrated embodiment, particularly in [Fig.2], the activation bar 6 is pivotally connected to the protective plate 4, along a second axis substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the wheel 3 of the agricultural machine 1. In such a configuration, the activation bar 6 in the activation position has pivoted by a predetermined angle so that the activation bar extends at least orthogonally with respect to the direction of advancement of the agricultural machine 1.
[0032] Preferably, the activation bar 6 in the activation position has pivoted so that the activation bar extends at least partly in a direction opposite to the direction of advance of the agricultural machine 1. In such a configuration, the activation bar 6 is thus protected from the external environment in the activation position.
[0033] The bumper system 2 is configured such that, if the activation bar 6 comes into contact with an obstacle and the obstacle exerts a force on the activation barrier 6 exceeding a first threshold, the activation bar 6 moves from its initial position to its activation position. In the embodiment where the activation bar 6 is pivotally mounted, said activation bar 6 pivots about the second axis from the initial position to the activation position. In the activation position, the activation bar 6 actuates a control element 8 configured to command an emergency sequence of the agricultural machine 1, including, in particular, braking and automatic stopping of the agricultural machine 1, as illustrated in [Fig. 2].
[0034] The bumper system 2 is further configured so that, if the protective plate 4 comes into contact with the obstacle and the obstacle exerts a force on the protective plate 4 exceeding a second threshold, the protective plate 4 pivots around the first axis from its initial position to its contact position, as illustrated in [Fig. 4]. In an ideal case, the emergency sequence of the agricultural machine 1 is completed before the protective plate 4 reaches the contact position, thereby improving the service life of the bumper system 2.
[0035] Preferably, the first activation threshold is at least 15 N, preferably even greater than 20 N.
[0036] Preferably, the second activation threshold is between 1 and 40 times the first activation threshold
[0037] Advantageously, the thresholds are adapted so that vertical and / or horizontal accelerations relative to the ground, for example due to vibrations or abrupt changes in topography during the advancement of the agricultural machine 1 or contact with small vegetation, are insufficient to move the activation bar 6 and the protective plate 4. Furthermore, the second threshold can be adapted so that a portion of the protective plate 4 can support the weight of a user without pivoting and provide a step function. The first threshold is also adapted so that, in the event of contact with a person, activation occurs to prevent injury to that person.
[0038] Thanks to this combination of features, such a bumper system 2 enables the activation of an emergency sequence before any contact between the protective plate 4 and an obstacle. Furthermore, the risk of damage to such a plate 4 or to the mechanical components of the agricultural machine 1, particularly one of the wheels 3, is significantly reduced by inducing a pivoting movement of the protective plate 4 in the event of a collision with an obstacle before the end of the emergency sequence. Moreover, this movement of the protective plate 4 contributes to a gradual application of the contact force of the obstacle on the wheel and to bringing the agricultural machine to a stop, thereby absorbing some of the kinetic energy resulting from the collision. Such a bumper system 2 makes it possible to do without sensors such as LIDAR sensors, thus allowing a simplified response to the regulatory obligations of the technical field.
[0039] Advantageously, in the case where the wheel 3 includes a tire, the protective plate 4 in the contact position is in contact with the tire, the stiffness of the tire also contributing to the damping of the shock as well as to the dissipation of the energy from the collision.
[0040] The control member 8 advantageously comprises a cam 10, a roller 12, and a switch 14. The cam is integral with the activation bar 6 and configured such that, when the activation bar 6 pivots from its initial position to its activation position, a pivot of the cam 10 induces a displacement of the roller 12 towards the switch 14, thereby triggering the switch 14 to initiate the emergency sequence of the agricultural machine. In such a configuration, the switch 14 is only engaged when the roller 12 is moved by the cam 10, that is, when the force exerted by the obstacle on the activation bar 6 is sufficient to cause the activation bar 6 to pivot. Thus, the risk of inadvertent triggering of the emergency sequence, for example by vegetation, is significantly reduced.
[0041] In the described embodiment, the protective plate 4 includes a protruding edge in a direction opposite to the direction of travel of the agricultural machine 1. The edge is configured to be in contact with the wheel 3 of the agricultural machine 1 in the contact position of the protective plate 4. The edge further defines a housing configured to receive the control element 8, in particular here the cam 10, the roller 12 and the switch 14. The housing receiving the control element 8 then protects it from the external environment, and the risk of crushing the control element 8 between the protective plate 4 and the wheel 3 of the agricultural machine 1, in particular in the contact position of the protective plate 4, is reduced.
[0042] The bumper system 2 advantageously comprises a first return member 16 for the activation bar 6, the first return member 16 being configured to move the activation bar 6 from its activation position to its initial position. If the activation bar is pivotally mounted, the first return member 16 is configured to pivot the activation bar 6 from the activation position to its initial position. The first return member 16 is, for example, formed by at least one spring, preferably a torsion spring. In the described embodiment, the activation bar 6 is preloaded by means of at least one pin 20 in contact with a stop 22 in the initial position, the contact between the pin 20 and the stop 22 being ensured by a force from the first return member 16 equal to the first activation threshold. In such a configuration, the activation bar is configured to return to its initial position, in particular after a maneuver to clear the agricultural machine 1 from the obstacle.
[0043] The term "disengagement maneuver" refers to a movement of the agricultural machine in the opposite direction to its initial direction of travel, so that the contact between the protective plate 4 and the obstacle that triggered the emergency sequence is broken. In the case of an autonomous agricultural machine, the disengagement maneuver is performed automatically and integrated into the emergency sequence.
[0044] Similarly, the bumper system 2 includes a second return element 18 for the protective plate 4, the second return element 18 being configured to rotate the protective plate 4 around the second axis from its contact position to its initial position. The protective plate is thus configured to return to its initial position, in particular following a disengagement maneuver of the agricultural machine 1 from the obstacle as described above. The second return element 18 is, for example, formed by at least one leaf spring. The protective plate 4 is preloaded by means of at least one chain 26 under mechanical tension between two eyelets 24 in the initial position, one eyelet being fixed to the chassis of the agricultural machine 1 and the other eyelet 24 being fixed to the protective plate 4.In the initial position, the mechanical tension of the chain 26 is ensured by a force from the second return member 18 equal to the second activation threshold.
[0045] It should also be noted that the invention is not limited to the embodiments described above. It will indeed be apparent to a person skilled in the art that various modifications can be made to the embodiments described above, in light of the information just disclosed to them.
[0046] In the detailed presentation of the invention given above, the terms used shall not be interpreted as limiting the invention to the embodiment set forth in this description, but shall be interpreted to include all equivalents which can be foreseen by a person skilled in the art by applying their general knowledge to the implementation of the teaching which has just been disclosed to them.
