Title of the invention: Peripheral worker safety device for building roofs.
[0001] The invention relates to a safety protection device for persons peripheral to the roof of a building, fixed to the framework and capable of positioning the guardrails it supports in a vertical position regardless of the angle of inclination of the roof slope.
[0002] State of knowledge: the state of knowledge regarding safety devices for people around roof perimeters is characterized by three technologies:
[0003] The first technology concerns devices characterized by anchoring to the wall to ensure the load-bearing capacity of the guardrail placed around the perimeter of the structure. Patent No. FR80704 illustrates this technology; it consists of a vertical element connected to two other, more or less perpendicular elements that are anchored to the wall. For use by construction personnel, the wall must already be erected to accommodate the device, as the building structure cannot be a load-bearing structure consisting of posts supporting a framework on which roofing work is underway (as is the case with industrial buildings, for example). Another example of this technology is a device marketed by the company "Frenehard et Michaux®", which differs from the aforementioned patent in that the wall anchoring points utilize a fixing plate.Regarding the same company, it is worth mentioning patent no. FR2930272, based on another scaffolding bracket system with wall mounting (via gutter supports), while a T-shaped element connected to the bottom of the main element is pressed against the wall. The company "Frenehard et Michaux®" has developed a highly specialized technology for roofs made of corrugated metal sheets (patent no. 2977606), with safety elements anchored to the top of the corrugations in these sheets. Finally, the company "Dimos®" has developed an invention, published under no. This device consists of a guardrail that is fixed to the edge or bottom of the roof and accommodates safety accessories (rails, baseboards, nets) to provide complete protection. The device is based on a monolithic L-shaped post, the horizontal part of which is fixed under the roof structure using fasteners, while the vertical part – positioned at 90 degrees to the horizontal part – receives the guardrail elements (posts, nets, bars, or planks). Due to its monolithic nature, this device is limited to roof pitches of up to 30°, because the roof pitch prevents the guardrail from being perfectly vertical.
[0006] The invention was created to provide a solution for protecting people around the roof of an industrial building, whether the roof is in place or not, and regardless of the roof slope of the structure.
[0007] Presentation of the invention: The invention relates to a temporary safety protection device for people around the perimeter of the roof of an industrial building, fixed to the framework and capable of positioning the guardrails it supports in a perfectly vertical position, regardless of the angle of inclination of the roof slope, characterized by: - a lower bar (a) receiving sliding blocks (b), the latter being provided with means for locking the bar (a) to the building's framework, - a linking and fixing element (c) of the guardrail post, consisting of two main parts joined together by a pivot point (d): the first part (e) itself attached to the bottom bar (a) and the second part (f) being intended to receive the guardrail post in a vertical position, while a clamping in several positions (g) allows the second part (f) to be placed in a perfectly vertical position.
[0008] With regard to the multi-position clamping (g), this can be constituted by several technologies: either supported by a sliding connection, or by several threaded oblongs receiving a screw on one of them according to the desired position of the post with regard to the angle of the roof slope, or by any other means.
[0009] The implementation of the invention consists of fixing the lower bar (a) on the frame, then fixing the connecting and fixing element (c) to the end of the latter in the peripheral part of the structure, and finally adjusting the verticality of the second part (f) of the connecting and fixing element which will receive the guardrail post, this with regard to the roof slope in order to ensure a perfectly vertical position of the guardrail post.
[0010] It should be noted that since the device is held only by the building's framework, it allows for the safety of people within the perimeter of the structure without the presence of walls and roofing. Thus, this device is particularly suitable during roof installation, as the space inside the building's perimeter can accommodate any other means of personal protection, such as fall protection nets.
