Description

Title of the invention: MOUNTING ASSEMBLY FOR A POSITION SENSOR AND A SUPPORT PIN FOR AN AUTOMOBILE ENGINE COVER

[0001] The invention relates, in general, to the field of mechanical assembly of the components of internal combustion engines and is interested, more particularly, in an improved assembly intended to provide on the cylinder head both the support and the fixing of a position sensor and an engine cover.

[0002] Internal combustion engines of motor vehicles are generally equipped with an engine cover mounted on the cylinder head cover. For this purpose, the cylinder head cover carries at least one support pin for the engine cover, as described in patent EP2896805B1, as well as a camshaft position sensor which also protrudes upwards near the pin.

[0003] Currently, the cylinder head cover thus carries two distinct functional elements (pin and sensor) which require, on the factory engine assembly line, two independent installation and tightening operations. However, separating these two operations leads to a longer assembly cycle and, consequently, to increased vehicle manufacturing costs.

[0004] In this problematic context, the invention sought a technical solution aimed at combining the support pin and the position sensor on a single fixing assembly to simplify and reduce the duration of the mounting operation on the cylinder head cover.

[0005] This goal is achieved, according to the invention, by means of a fixing assembly on a cylinder head of a motor vehicle engine of a position sensor and a support pin of an engine cover, characterized in that it comprises a base carrying, on the one hand, the sensor and, on the other hand, the pin and a linking element allowing the adjustment of the respective angular positions of the pin and the sensor.

[0006] According to an advantageous feature of the mounting assembly of the invention, the base is integral with the sensor and the connecting member is rotatably mounted on said base.

[0007] According to a preferred embodiment of the fastening assembly of the invention, the connecting member comprises a threaded rod projecting below the base and a nut mounted on the base at the upper end of said rod.

[0008] According to a specific embodiment of the invention, the pin is provided with reinforcing fins connected to said base. Preferably, the pin is equipped with three fins extending, respectively, laterally above the base and perpendicularly below said base.

[0009] Another object of the invention is a use of the assembly defined above for the fixing of a camshaft position sensor and a support pin for an engine cover on a cylinder head cover of a motor vehicle.

[0010] Yet another object of the invention is a motor vehicle with a thermal engine provided with a cylinder head and an assembly as defined above for fixing on the cover of said cylinder head a position sensor and a support pin for an engine cover.

[0011] In its most general aspect, the improvement brought by the invention to the mechanical assembly of the known position sensor and engine cover support pin makes it possible to simplify vehicle assembly operations by shortening the duration of the engine assembly cycle in the factory and thus reducing manufacturing costs.

[0012] In addition, thanks to the invention, the management of part references and their supply is facilitated by the grouping of two functional components on a single part.

[0013] Other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description, with reference to the accompanying figures, for which:

[0014] [Fig. 1] is a perspective view of a motor vehicle internal combustion engine equipped with a preferred embodiment of the whole of the invention intended for the attachment of a position sensor and a support pin for an engine cover.

[0015] [Fig.2] is a perspective view of a first side of the fastening assembly of the invention.

[0016] [Fig.3] is a perspective view from another side of the fastening assembly of [Fig.2],

[0017] For clarity, identical or similar elements are identified by identical reference signs throughout the figures.

[0018] Naturally, the embodiment of the fastening assembly according to the invention, schematically illustrated in the figures above and described below, is given only by way of non-limiting example. It is explicitly provided within the scope of the invention that different embodiments can be proposed and combined to offer other embodiments.

[0019] The invention relates to the general field of mechanical assembly of functional components on an internal combustion engine of motor vehicles. In particular, the invention concerns the method of mounting, on the cylinder head of the engine, a support pin for an engine cover and a camshaft position sensor.

[0020] As illustrated by the perspective view in [Fig. 1] of the engine M, the cylinder head cover Cl carries a pin 1 and a sensor 2. Currently, these two functional components are two separate parts which require two independent installation and tightening operations on the factory engine assembly line. However, separating these two operations leads to a longer assembly cycle and, consequently, to increased vehicle manufacturing costs.

[0021] In order to solve this problem, the invention consists of grouping these two components on a single assembly which is shown separately from the motor in figures 2 and 3.

[0022] More specifically, this assembly includes a base 3 carrying, on the one hand, the sensor 1 and, on the other hand, the pin 2 for supporting the motor cover C2 and a linking member 4 allowing adjustment of the respective angular positions of the pin and the sensor.

[0023] In the embodiment shown here, the base 3 is fixed to the sensor 1 and the connecting member 4 is rotatably mounted on the base 3.

[0024] The connecting member 4 here comprises a threaded rod 41 projecting below the base and a nut 40 mounted on the base 3 at the upper end of the rod 41.

[0025] Preferably, the pin 2 is provided with reinforcing fins 21 connected to the base 3. In the embodiment shown in Figures 2 and 3, two of these fins 21 extend laterally and above the base 3 while another fin extends below the base and perpendicularly to it.

[0026] The assembly is fixed to the cover Cl of the cylinder head C by means of the single rigid conduit 10 for the electrical connection of the sensor 1, which extends under the base 3 and is positioned here in line with the axis of the sensor. The position of the pin 2 is thus offset laterally from the position of the sensor 1.
