Claims

1. A tool storage system comprising a toolbox and a plurality of tool storage compartments arranged to be loosely secured within the toolbox, the toolbox comprising a unit body, a unit base, and a storage space formed by the unit body and the unit base, and the tool storage compartments each comprising a compartment body, a compartment base, and a storage space formed by the compartment body and the compartment base, wherein an external surface of each compartment base comprises at least one engagement portion, the at least one engagement portion comprising a plurality of first engagement formations, and wherein an internal surface of the unit base comprises a plurality of corresponding second engagement formations, the first engagement formations being arranged to engage with the plurality of second engagement formations and the second engagement formations arranged to engage with the plurality of first engagement portions, wherein the first engagement formations are arranged to form a continuous grid formation across the at least one engagement portion of the external surface of each compartment base.

2. The tool storage system of Claim 1, wherein the at least one engagement portion of each compartment base extends across the majority of the external surface of the compartment base.

3. The tool storage system of Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the plurality of first engagement formations comprises a plurality of cells.

4. The tool storage system of Claim 3, wherein each of the plurality of cells is defined between the external surface of each compartment base and an engagement surface of each compartment base.

5. The tool system compartment of Claim 4, wherein each of the plurality of cells comprises at least one cell wall extending between the externalsurface of each compartment base and the engagement surface of each compartment base.

6. The tool storage system of Claim 5, wherein the at least one cell wall is tapered between each compartment base and the respective engagement surface of each compartment base.

7. The tool storage system of any of Claims 4-6, wherein each engagement surface is a substantially flat surface.

8. The tool storage system of any of Claims 4-7, wherein each engagement surface is substantially parallel to each compartment base.

9. The tool storage system of any of Claims 5-8, wherein at least a portion of the at least one wall of each of the first engagement formations is directly adjacent at least a portion of the at least one wall of another first engagement formation.10.The tool storage system of any preceding claim, wherein each compartment body comprises at least one wall extending from each respective compartment base.11 .The tool storage system of Claim 10, wherein the at least one wall extends from each respective compartment base to a free end.

12. The tool storage system of Claim 11, wherein the free end is tapered such that the free end has a bevelled edge.

13. The tool storage system of Claim 11 or Claim 12, wherein the perimeter of the external surface of each compartment base corresponds in shape and / or dimensions to the free end of the at least one wall of each respective compartment body.14.The tool storage system of any preceding claim, further comprising an insert placed within the storage space formed in at least one of the tool storage compartments.

15. The tool storage system of Claim 14, wherein the insert provides an internal surface within the storage space formed by at least one of the tool storage compartments.16.The tool storage system of Claim 15, wherein the internal surface is perpendicular to the compartment base of the at least one tool storage compartments such that the insert divides the at least one tool storage compartment into sub-compartments.

17. The tool storage system of Claim 15 or Claim 16, wherein the insert comprises at least one recess arranged to receive or hold a specific tool or related component.

18. The tool storage system of any of Claims 14-17, wherein the insert is removable from the at least one tool storage compartment.19.The tool storage system of any of Claims 14-18, wherein the insert is movable, e.g. slidably, within the at least one tool storage compartment.20.The tool storage system of any preceding claim, wherein the engagement between the first engagement formations and the second engagement formations inhibits or prevents lateral movement between the first engagement formations and the second engagement formations but does not inhibit or prevent vertical movement between the first engagement formations and the second engagement formations.
