Reconfigurable chair, and methods of use thereof

Abstract

A reconfigurable chair 10, which may be used in a hairdressers, has a seat portion 14 having a rear end region (32a, Figure 3) and a front end region (32b, Figure 3). The chair 10 also has a back portion 20 which extends from at or adjacent the rear end region. The back portion has a back support surface 36. The back portion is at least in part removable or at least in part movable relative to the seat portion. This enables the chair 10 to be reconfigurable between a user-support condition and an access condition. When the chair is in the user-support condition, the entire area 36a of the back support surface is available for supporting a seated user’s back. When the chair is in the access condition, the back support surface has a reduced available area for supporting the seated user’s back so as to provide a greater access to the seated user’s back. The back portion may be pivotably movable around at least one pivot axis. The pivot axis may be perpendicular or parallel to an average seat-plane. A method of reconfiguring a reconfigurable chair from a user-support condition to an access condition is also disclosed.
