Abstract
An indoor positioning system which tracks swimming pool users comprises a swim cap fitted with an ultra-wide band transceiver or tag 2. A poolside anchor 1 fitted with an ultra-wide band transceiver is deployed near a swimming pool to establish a two-way ranging dialogue which calculates the distance to another transceiver or tag on the same frequency. The system will determine the distance travelled by swimmers as they move inside the swimming pool using radio signals within the Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) frequency spectrum and technology and the Two-Way Ranging (TWR) messaging system to establish, and track, the swimmer’s position and distance travelled. Alternatively, the transceiver may be fitted in a floating buoy which may be tethered to a swimmer fig 5.
