Abstract

Using a blockchain (such as bitcoin) to generate a shared secret (such as a shared key) by submitting a transaction comprising a locktime that prevents the transaction from being recorded on the blockchain until after a point in the future (such as a specific block height or UNIX time), wherein the shared secret is generated based on the information (such as a block hash, merkle root, coinbase transaction, total number of transcations in the block, timestamp, nonce) specific to the block associated with the transaction. The shared secret may be based on a second shared secret e.g. a Diffie-Hellman key.
