Abstract

The invention provides a mechanism for receiving a response signal from an AIoT device comprising orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or digital Fourier transform spread frequency division multiplexing (DFT-s-FDM). A reader UE may receive a response signal to an activation signal over a channel and collect samples (e.g. cyclic prefix and remaining samples). The UE generates a first vector in a time domain including samples of the response signal, performs a digital Fourier transform transformation of the first vector in the time domain to obtain a second vector in a frequency domain including pilot symbols and data symbols and estimates a channel response of the channel based on the pilot symbols, equalizes the data symbols based on the channel response, determines a waveform of the response signal from among a plurality of waveforms the apparatus is configurable to handle based on configuration information, and processes the equalized data symbols based on the determined waveform.
