Permeable paving spacer

Abstract

A permeable spacer 1 for spacing modular paving elements has a T, X or L form and is made of plastics material. The spacer has at least two alveolated portions formed by spaced cavities, some of which extend through the entire depth of the spacer and some of which are closed by a recessed member 4 to form an internal step having a depth R of 5mm. The depth of the spacer is in the range 20-30mm. The spacer provides predetermined gaps between paving elements and sits below the surface of the paving elements. The gaps are filled with a joint filling washed aggregate. The recessed member allows the joint filling aggregate to rest on top of the spacer, preventing the spacer from moving upwardly under the movement of vehicles. A method of permitting water to permeate between adjacent paving elements includes the provision of at least one paving spacer.
