Abstract
Description
Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a depilatory device, in particular a device for providing removal of hair; more particularly but not exclusively for facial hair. Background For many people across the world in many societies there is an increasing interest in facial hair styling. Depilatory compositions may be used to remove unwanted hair by chemical activity, for example reducing agents to weaken hair, creams, lotions and the like which may be applied to the unwanted hair in a variety of ways, such as with a spatula. Typically, sensitive skin requires the use of the depilatory composition to remove unwanted hair on the face. Due to the viscous nature of depilatory compositions, achieving a symmetrical or precise hair pattern may be difficult, particularly with more precision hair patterns, such as a goatee or a moustache, or a soul patch. Prior Art WO 2022 226 634 (AKAHSHLI) discloses a method of manufacturing one or more shaving stencils automatically based on a library of 3D models of human and animal body parts, made according to a standard specification for a human or animal body part or according to a desired specification set out in a stencil request or including a mobile application configured to scan a user's face and provide an interface for viewing certain pre-made stencils on the scanned face. US 2016 0 166 040 (CHANDLER) discloses an assembly comprising: a plurality of templates, comprising a mount surface and an outer surface, said mount surface being configured to enable at least partial engagement with a middle region of a user’s body, further comprising at least one edge being substantially tapered, configured to help inhibit passage onto the body engaged by the template, and comprising a middle handle portion configured to enable gripping and manipulation of the template, all templates arranged so as to inhibit passage of a depilatory composition to the portion of the body covered by the template, and having a rubber strip to form a continuous plane to provide a smooth fit to allow the user to pull down to tighten their skin while using the template. JPH 06 225 811 (NITTO) discloses a roll-type hair removal tape comprising a support substrate formed from a laminate of a porous substrate having hand tearability in any direction and a plastic film stretched in the width direction, and an adhesive layer for hair removal formed on the surface of the porous substrate, wherein the tear strength in the width direction is 200 g or less. Summary of the Invention According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a depilatory device comprising an adhesive hair removal layer, a carrier substrate for the adhesive hair removal layer, and a cover for the adhesive hair removal layer, wherein the perimeter of the carrier substrate is arranged to extend away from an edge of a user’s beard growth and, when the cover is removed and the carrier substrate is pulled away from the beard growth, the adhesive hair removal layer is adapted to remove hair from the user to define the edge of that beard growth. In this way the device of the present invention provides an easy to operate, mess-free and precise means of removing hair up to an edge and providing a clean edge to a user’s beard growth so as to better define the growth. In some embodiments of the device the carrier substrate extends past the edge over the beard growth to provide a carrier substrate that does not have an adhesive hair removal layer and provides a grip portion. Such grip portion enables the user to grip and pull effectively so as to cause a clean, painless and effective hair removal process. In some embodiments of the device the device comprises a plurality of grip portions extending in a plurality of directions, allowing the user a plurality of different options so as to maximise effectiveness and so as to accommodate different directions of hair growth, focus and avoid parts of the face that have differing needs. In some embodiments of the device the device comprises a wax adhesive hair removal layer, for example glyceryl rosinate (rosin), polycyclopentadiene hydrogenate, or PEG-3 dirosinate or tryethylene glycol. In some embodiments of the device the device comprises a fabric carrier substrate, such as a cotton webbing or similar. In some embodiments of the device the device is adapted to define a neck line edge to beard growth. In some embodiments of the device the device is adapted to define a moustache area edge to beard growth. In some embodiments of the device the device is adapted to define a cheek area edge to beard growth. It may be envisaged in all embodiments that the embodiments may be provided in relation to left and right sides of the face, such that at the minimum embodiments of the device comprise two parts, a left-hand side and a right-hand side. According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided apparatus comprising a plurality of device substantially as described herein with reference to the figures. According to a third aspect of the present invention there is provided a method of providing such apparatus. According to a fourth aspect of the present invention there is provided a system for scanning a user so as to enable provision of such apparatus. A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the Figures in which: Brief Description of Figures Figure 1 shows a diagrammatic view of embodiments of the device according to the present invention, in use on a user’s head, with a first beard configuration; Figure 2 shows a diagrammatic view of embodiments of the device according to the present invention, in use on a user’s head, with a second beard configuration; Figure 3 shows a diagrammatic view of embodiments of the device according to the present invention, in use on a user’s head, with a third beard configuration; Figure 4 shows a diagrammatic view of embodiments of the device according to the present invention, in use on a user’s head, with a fourth beard configuration; and Figure 5 shows a plan diagrammatic view of an embodiment of the device according to the present invention. Detailed Description of Figures With reference to the pictured embodiment there is provided embodiments 1-13 of a depilatory device generally comprising an adhesive hair removal layer, a carrier substrate for the adhesive hair removal layer, and a cover (not shown) for the adhesive hair removal layer, wherein the perimeter of the carrier substrate is arranged to extend away from an edge of a user’s beard growth and, when the cover is removed, the adhesive hair removal layer is adapted to remove hair from the user to define the edge of that beard growth. In particular reference to Figure 1 the pictured embodiments of the device comprise a left side cheek embodiment 2 and a right side cheek embodiment 1. These cheek embodiments are arranged to extend around the upper lip of the user’s head 100, so as to allow for beard growth A to define a moustache. Additionally of alternatively the embodiments are adapted to remove hair from the cheeks of the user, and may also remove hair from the user's cheekbones. Additionally or alternatively the bottom edge of the cheek embodiments is adapted to define a beard growth edge appropriate to a goatee. In Figure 1 however there are also provided two chin embodiments, namely a left chin embodiment 4 and a right chin embodiment 3, which combine to define the edges of a soul patch beard growth A, as well as meeting the cheek embodiments 1,2. In particular reference to Figure 2 the pictured embodiments of the device comprise a left middle cheek embodiment 6 and a right middle cheek embodiment 5, which provide a lower edge that defines a beard growth A appropriate to a full beard. Additionally Figure 2 shows two further embodiments 7,8 which are used to define and control a neat edge to the beard growth A on the chin, allowing a central clean chinstrap. In particular reference to Figure 3 the pictured embodiments of the device comprise a left upper cheek embodiment 10 and a right upper cheek embodiment 9, which provide a lower edge that defines a beard growth A appropriate to a full beard, as well as removing hair around the nose and the cheekbones. In particular reference to Figure 4 the pictured embodiments of the device comprise a left chin clearance embodiment 12 and a right chin clearance embodiment 11, which allow the user to ensure a clean edge for beard growth A under the chin on the user’s neck 105. With reference to the embodiment of the device shown in Figure 5, the embodiment 13 shows a central adhesive layer 91, surrounded by a fabric substrate 92, which extends further than the adhesive layer, so as to present gripping areas, providing a grip portion (the shaded area to the left of Figure 5) that extends towards the ear in use, providing an easy place to grip and pull, a grip portion (to the right) which may be envisaged to cover over the nose in use, allowing the adhesive layer to be more effectively pushed against the skin and pulled away when ready, and providing (to the bottom left) a small overlap that may be used to pull the embodiment away from a jawline. The invention has been described by way of examples only and it will be appreciated that variation may be made to the above-mentioned embodiments without departing from the scope of protection as defined by the claims.
