Abstract
A system and method of detecting disassembled items (e.g. components / sub-items of guns, weapons etc.) in baggage / luggage etc. when going through facilities with restricted access and security scanners (e.g. airports, shipment inspection) comprising: processing circuitry configured to generate three-dimensional representations for a plurality of items 402; assign material properties to each representation 404; and fragment (e.g. planar / pattern-based cuts) each representation into a plurality of objects 408. The system then synthesizes a set of imaging representations (e.g. X ray / CT scan) for each object fragmented 410; before augmenting the imaging representation with metadata indicating the set of material properties 412 (e.g. density, texture, colour etc.) thereby providing a plurality of augmented representations. These representations are used to train a detection network 414 to generate a first and second embedding vector in a feature space for a first and second test object, wherein the distance between the two vectors indicates a degree of association between the objects (e.g. two disassembled parts of the same larger object).
