Fiber Optic Module

Abstract

This product is an optical fiber module that functions as a communication device in which a planar lightwave circuit that processes optical signals is connected to an optical fiber. As shown in "Reference Figure 1", "Reference Figure 2" and "Reference Figure 3", the planar lightwave circuit is composed of a substrate equipped with an electric circuit and an optical circuit disposed on the substrate. The optical circuit through which the light to be processed passes includes a cladding layer and a core layer, both of which are made of silica-based glass. The core layer has a higher refractive index than the cladding layer, and a thin film / heater film is disposed in the cladding layer as a heating element for changing the refractive index. The optical fiber is connected to the planar lightwave circuit as an element for transmitting the light passing through the core layer of the optical circuit to the outside.
