Abstract
This article is an optical module, a transmission path that uses light for communication. As shown in the reference diagram showing the names of each part, it includes a sheet-like optical waveguide whose width varies from one end to the other, a ferrule to which one end of the optical waveguide is connected, and an optical circuit board to which the other end of the optical waveguide is connected. A pair of optical waveguides arranged side by side, one above the other, are arranged so that at least a portion of them overlap in a planar view. The optical waveguide includes a core that serves as an optical path and a cladding that surrounds the core. Multiple cores, represented by dotted lines, are arranged side by side in the width direction within the cladding and have a deformation region that changes the pitch between adjacent cores between one end and the other end in the light propagation direction. The number and shape of the cores can be appropriately changed depending on the application.
