DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0011] One or more specific embodiments are described below. In order to describe these embodiments concisely, not all of the features of the implementations are described herein. It should be understood that the development of any such implementation, as in any engineering or design project, requires numerous implementation-specific decisions to be made in order to achieve the developer's particular objectives, such as compliance with system-related and business-related constraints that may vary from implementation to implementation. Moreover, it should be understood that such a development effort may be complex and time-consuming, but would be a routine undertaking of design, fabrication and manufacture for those of ordinary skill in the art having the benefit of this disclosure.

[0012] When introducing elements of various embodiments of the disclosure, the articles "a," "an," and "the" are intended to mean the presence of one or more of the element. The terms "comprising," "including," and "having" are intended to be inclusive and mean that there may be additional elements other than the listed elements. It should also be understood that references to "one embodiment" or "an embodiment" of the disclosure are not intended to be interpreted as excluding the existence of additional embodiments that also contain the recited features.

[0013] Some ride systems include ride vehicles that can carry passengers (e.g., users) within a ride area of the ride system. Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to ride vehicles that can move within the ride area of the ride system based on a choreographed routine. For example, a ride system can include multiple ride vehicles that can carry passengers within the ride area to entertain and / or transport the passengers. The movement of the ride vehicles can be choreographed along a ride path and / or relative to each other and other parts of the ride system. The ride vehicles can also include passenger supports that can move in a particular direction relative to the ride area of the ride system and / or can carry passengers and move relative to other parts of the ride area and / or ride vehicles of the ride system. For example, the ride vehicles can include mechanisms and parts (e.g., passenger supports) that can move vertically relative to the surface of the ride area and / or the base of the ride vehicle, move horizontally in various directions (e.g., move in any planar direction, rotate and swivel, etc.), and roll (e.g., move tilted and / or at an angle relative to the surface of the ride area and / or the base of the ride vehicle).

[0014] In some embodiments, the ride system and / or the ride vehicle may include a control system that controls the movement of the ride vehicle within the ride area. For example, the control system may adjust the trajectory or course of travel of the ride vehicle based on the position of the ride vehicle relative to the ride path (e.g., based on the actual position of the ride vehicle relative to the intended position of the ride vehicle along the ride path). In some embodiments, as the ride vehicle moves within the ride area, a number of factors may affect the trajectory of the ride vehicle, such as obstacles within the ride area, the weight of passengers on the ride vehicle, the weight of other items placed on or in portions of the ride vehicle, obstacles attached to the ride vehicle that may be dragged behind, in front of, or to the side of the ride vehicle, passenger inputs (e.g., passengers shifting their weight, passengers turning a control handle or generally adjusting the trajectory of the ride vehicle, passengers adjusting the speed of the ride vehicle, etc.). Thus, the control system may adjust the trajectory or course of travel of the ride vehicle to account for such factors generally following the ride path.

[0015] In some embodiments, the ride vehicles of the ride system may include a selected ride vehicle configured to lead the other ride vehicles. A passenger riding in the selected ride vehicle may provide input, such as shifting their weight, controlling a joystick or other hand controller, pressing a button, or a combination thereof. The controller of the selected ride vehicle and / or the ride system may adjust the trajectory of the selected ride vehicle and / or the movement of the passenger support of the selected ride vehicle based on the passenger input. For example, if a passenger in the selected ride vehicle provides an input indicating that the passenger support of the selected ride vehicle should be pulled upward and tilted to the left, the controller may adjust the movement of the selected ride vehicle to move the passenger support generally upward and to the left from the planned choreographed ride trajectory. The ride system controller may also adjust the movement of some or all of the other ride vehicles and / or the passenger supports of the other ride vehicles in the ride system. The adjustments to the movement of the other ride vehicles may generally correspond to the movement of the selected ride vehicle (e.g., may be based on relative adjustments / movements of the selected ride vehicle or portions thereof), may reflect the movement of the selected ride vehicle, and / or may be of a varying / different degree compared to the movement of the selected ride vehicle. In some embodiments, the designation of a selected one of the ride vehicles of the ride system may change during operation of the ride system. For example, during a first time period during a ride sequence (e.g., a time sequence of operation of the ride system) of the ride system, the selected ride vehicle may be a first ride vehicle, and during a second time period during the ride sequence, the selected ride vehicle may be a second, different ride vehicle. Thus, the ride system allows one or more passengers of the ride system to at least partially control the ride vehicles during the ride sequence while the passengers are riding the ride vehicles. The ride system may dynamically adjust the movement of the ride vehicles based on passenger input.

[0016] In some embodiments, the ride system may include a display system configured to provide a viewing experience that generally corresponds to the movement of the ride vehicle. For example, the viewing experience may be a cinematic presentation that the passengers can view while riding the ride vehicle and that may enhance the passengers' experience. The graphics of the cinematic presentation may move / change to generally correspond to the choreographed movement of the ride vehicle. In some embodiments, input provided to the selected ride vehicle and / or other ride vehicles may adjust the cinematic presentation. For example, the cinematic presentation may be part of a storyline experienced by the passengers and input provided at the ride vehicle may change / adjust this storyline (e.g., select a particular storyline from a number of possible storylines). In some embodiments, the ride system may also include an auditory system configured to provide an auditory experience (e.g., sound effects, music, etc.) that generally corresponds to the choreographed movement of the ride vehicle and / or may be adjusted based on input provided at the ride vehicle.

[0017] In some embodiments, a ride system may include ride stations configured to moor / house ride vehicles. The ride system may dispatch some or all of the ride vehicles from the ride stations during operation. For example, the number of ride vehicles dispatched from a ride station may generally depend on the party size (e.g., 1 passenger, 2 passengers, 3 passengers, 4 passengers, 6 passengers, 10 passengers, etc.) riding or about to ride a ride vehicle of the ride system.

[0018] In some embodiments, a ride system can include a ride vehicle configured to move along a fixed track including one or more passenger supports configured to carry a plurality of passengers. For example, each passenger support can be coupled to a base of the ride vehicle, and the base can move along the track. Each passenger support can move relative to the base and relative to each other as the ride vehicle moves along the track. The movement of each passenger support can be planned and / or choreographed based on the position of the ride vehicle along the track. The ride vehicle can also include a selected passenger support configured to receive input from a passenger, and a controller of the ride system can control the movement of the selected passenger support and / or other passenger supports of the ride vehicle based on the input, such as adjusting the planned and / or choreographed movement of the passenger support. Thus, embodiments of the ride system described herein can provide an entertaining and interactive experience for passengers of the ride system.

[0019] Referring to the drawings, FIG. 1 is a rear perspective view of an embodiment of a ride system 10 including ride vehicles 12. For ease of explanation, each ride vehicle 12 and certain components of the ride vehicles 12 may be described with reference to a vertical axis or direction 14, a longitudinal axis or direction 16, and a transverse axis or direction 18. As shown, in some embodiments, each ride vehicle 12 includes a base 20 and a passenger support 22 (e.g., a ride assembly) coupled to the base 20 via a linkage assembly 24. The base 20 may move the ride vehicles 12 along a surface 26 of a ride path and / or ride area 28 of the ride system 10, and the passenger support 22 may carry passengers (e.g., users) of the ride vehicles 12. For example, passengers may ride the ride vehicles 12 for entertainment and / or transportation purposes. In some embodiments, the passenger support 22 and / or the ride vehicles 12 may include decorative features that enhance the passenger experience, such as features resembling animals, fictional characters, automobiles, ornaments, and / or other objects. Although the illustrated embodiment of the ride system 10 includes three ride vehicles 12, some embodiments of the ride system 10 may include more or fewer ride vehicles 12 (e.g., one ride vehicle 12, two ride vehicles 12, four ride vehicles 12, five ride vehicles 12, eight ride vehicles 12, etc.). Also, in some embodiments, the ride vehicles 12 may share a common base 20. For example, the common base 20 may be significantly wider than the exemplary base 20 of FIG. 1 to accommodate multiple passenger supports 22 and multiple linkage assemblies 24.

[0020] During operation of the ride system 10, passengers may sit on the passenger supports 22 of the ride vehicles 12, which may traverse a surface 26 of a ride area 28 of the ride system 10 via their respective bases 20. As described in further detail below, in some embodiments, each ride vehicle 12 may move along a choreographed ride path within the ride system 10 (e.g., along a surface 26 of the ride area 28) and / or may include mechanisms that enable the ride vehicles 12 and / or passenger supports 22 to move vertically (e.g., generally along a vertical axis 14), move horizontally (e.g., generally along a longitudinal axis 16 and / or a lateral axis 18), and roll (e.g., rotate about a generally longitudinal axis 16 and / or a lateral axis 18) while moving along the ride path. Each passenger may also at least partially control / alter the movement of the ride vehicles 12 and / or passenger supports 22. The movement of the ride vehicle 12 along a choreographed ride path that moves in various directions while traveling along the ride path, as well as the passenger's ability to at least partially control the movement of the ride vehicle 12 and / or passenger support 22, can provide an interactive and entertaining experience for the passenger.

[0021] Figure 2 is a block diagram of an embodiment of the vehicle system 10 of Figure 1 including the ride vehicle 12. The vehicle system 10 includes a ride control system 30 that communicates with a ride vehicle control system 32 of the ride vehicle 12. As shown, the ride control system 30 and the ride vehicle control system 32 are communicatively coupled via a wireless connection 34 (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.). In some embodiments, the ride control system 30 and the ride vehicle control system 32 may also be communicatively coupled via a wired connection (e.g., Ethernet, Universal Serial Bus (USB), CANbus, ISObus, etc.).

[0022] The ride vehicle 12 includes a passenger support movement system 40 (e.g., a ride assembly movement system), a ride vehicle movement system 42, and a roll system 44 that are communicatively coupled to a ride vehicle control system 32, which can control the passenger support movement system 40, the ride vehicle movement system 42, and the roll system 44. In some embodiments, the passenger support movement system 40, the ride vehicle movement system 42, and / or the roll system 44 can be communicatively coupled directly to the ride control system 30 such that the ride control system 30 can control the passenger support movement system 40, the ride vehicle movement system 42, and / or the roll system 44.

[0023] The passenger support movement system 40 can move the passenger supports 22 relative to the base 20 and / or along the vertical axis 14 and / or the longitudinal axis 16. In some embodiments, the ride vehicle movement system 42 can move the ride vehicles 12 generally along the longitudinal axis 16 and / or the lateral axis 18 along the surface 26 of the ride area 28 of the ride system 10. For example, the ride vehicle movement system 42 can move the ride vehicles 12 in any planar direction (e.g., along a plane parallel to the surface 26 of the ride area 28), turn the ride vehicles 12, and rotate the ride vehicles 12. The roll system 44 can roll or angle the ride vehicles 12 and / or the passenger supports 22 generally about the longitudinal axis 16 relative to the surface 26 of the ride area 28 of the ride system 10 (e.g., move the ride vehicles 12 at an angle and / or tilt the ride vehicles 12).

[0024] Thus, the ride vehicle control system 32 may individually (e.g., separately, independently and / or differently) control the passenger support movement system 40, the ride vehicle movement system 42 and the roll system 44 as the ride vehicle 12 moves within the ride system 10 to move passengers seated on the passenger supports 22. By moving the passengers as they move along a ride path within the ride system 10, the ride vehicle 12 may provide the passengers with an entertainment experience that simulates the movement of animals, fictional characters, automobiles and / or other entertainment systems or characters. Each of the passenger support movement system 40, the ride vehicle movement system 42 and the roll system 44 may be coupled to and / or at least partially integrated with the base 20 of the ride vehicle 12.

[0025] 3 is a block diagram of an embodiment of the ride system 10 of FIG. 1 including a passenger support movement system 40 of the ride vehicle 12. As described above, the passenger support movement system 40 may move the passenger support 22 generally along the vertical axis 14 and / or the longitudinal axis 16. The passenger support movement system 40 may also move the passenger support 22 relative to the base 20 and / or the surface 26 of the ride area 28 of the ride system 10. As shown, the passenger support movement system 40 includes a linkage assembly 24, a support actuator 50, a passenger support position sensor 52, and a passenger controller 54. The support actuator 50 is configured to actuate the linkage assembly 24 to move the passenger support 22 relative to the base 20 and / or the surface 26 of the ride area 28. For example, the support actuator 50 may be a piston, a hydraulic cylinder, a pneumatic cylinder, or another suitable actuator, etc., and may be coupled to the linkage assembly 24. The linkages 56 of the linkage assembly 24 may rotate relative to one another (e.g., via pivots to which the linkages 56 are coupled) upon actuation by the support actuator 50 to move the passenger support 22 relative to the surface 26 of the base 20 and / or ride area 28. For example, the first linkage 56 may be coupled to the support actuator 50 and the second linkage 56. The support actuator 50 may move the first linkage 56 to cause movement of the second linkage 56 and the passenger support 22. In some embodiments, the linkage assembly 24 may include additional mechanisms that enable / cause movement of the passenger support 22 generally along the vertical axis 14 and / or the longitudinal axis 16, such as pins connecting the linkages 56, additional actuators coupled to and / or configured to move both linkages 56, and other suitable mechanisms. In some embodiments, the vertical and / or longitudinal movement caused by the passenger support movement system 40 may be combined with movement caused by the ride vehicle movement system 42 and / or roll movement caused by the roll system 44.In some embodiments, the passenger support movement system 40 may include a movement mechanism configured to move the passenger support 22 relative to the base 20 and / or the surface 26 of the vehicle area 28 in addition to or in place of the linkage assembly 24 and / or the support actuator 50.

[0026] The passenger support position sensor 52 can output a signal indicative of the vertical and / or longitudinal position of the passenger support 22 relative to the base 20 and / or the surface 26 of the ride area 28. For example, the passenger support position sensor 52 can sense the position of the passenger support 22 along the vertical axis 14, along the longitudinal axis 16, relative to the base 20 and / or relative to the surface 26 of the ride area 28, and can output a signal indicative of the vertical and / or longitudinal position of the passenger support 22. The ride vehicle control system 32 can receive a signal indicative of the vertical and / or longitudinal position of the passenger support 22 from the passenger support position sensor 52. The ride vehicle control system 32 can adjust the vertical and / or longitudinal position of the passenger support 22 relative to the base 20 and / or the surface 26 of the ride area 28 based on the position of the passenger support 22. For example, the ride vehicle control system 32 can output a signal to the support actuator 50 to actuate the linkage assembly 24 to move the passenger support 22. In some embodiments, the support actuator 50 may be omitted or integrated into the linkage assembly 24 such that the ride vehicle control system 32 may directly communicate with the linkage assembly 24 to move the passenger support 22 on the linkage assembly 24. The ride control system 30 may also directly communicate with the linkage assembly 24 or a portion thereof to control the movement of the passenger support 22. In some embodiments, the ride control system 30 may control the vertical and / or longitudinal movement of the passenger support 22 of a ride vehicle 12 based on the respective positions of the other passenger supports 22 of the other ride vehicles 12. For example, the ride control system 30 may control the movement / position of the passenger support 22 of a ride vehicle 12 based on the presence of another passenger support 22 of another separate ride vehicle 12 in a first position. Thus, the ride control system 30 may individually (e.g., independently, separately and / or differently) control the movement / position of the passenger support 22 of each ride vehicle 12.

[0027] As shown, the passenger controller 54 is coupled to the passenger support 22 and communicatively coupled to the ride vehicle control system 32. The passenger controller 54 may be any suitable controller configured to receive input from a passenger indicating adjustments to the movement and / or position of the passenger support 22, such as a joystick, a game controller, or another type of hand controller. In some embodiments, the passenger controller 54 may be integrated with the passenger support 22, such as included on a handlebar of the passenger support 22 (e.g., the passenger may provide input by moving the handlebar, pressing a button(s) on the handlebar, or turning a particular mechanism on the handlebar), included in the body of the passenger support 22 (e.g., the passenger may provide input by shifting their weight), or otherwise incorporated into the passenger support 22. For example, the passenger controller 54 or the ride vehicle 12 in general may include sensors configured to detect when the passenger shifts their weight while positioned on the passenger support 22, such as inertial sensors, accelerometers, pressure sensors, and / or other sensors configured to detect shifts in weight and / or weight distribution. Thus, the passenger controller 54 can provide an interactive experience to a passenger positioned on the passenger support 22 by enabling the passenger to at least partially control the movement / position of the passenger support 22 and / or the ride vehicle 12.

[0028] 4 is a side view block diagram of an embodiment of the ride system 10 of FIG. 1 including a ride vehicle movement system 42 for the ride vehicle 12. As discussed above, the ride vehicle movement system 42 can move the ride vehicle 12 generally along the longitudinal axis 16 and / or lateral axis 18 in either planar direction. The ride vehicle movement system 42 can also swivel and / or rotate the ride vehicle 12 along the surface 26 of the ride area 28 of the ride system 10. In some embodiments, the ride vehicle movement system 42 can cause the ride vehicle 12 to turn in a first direction while rotating in a second direction. For example, the ride vehicle movement system 42 can cause the ride vehicle 12 to turn left while rotating right (e.g., rotating the ride vehicle 12 clockwise when viewed from above).

[0029] As shown, the ride vehicle movement system 42 includes a ride vehicle movement actuator 60, a ride vehicle movement mechanism 62, and a ride vehicle position sensor 64. The ride vehicle movement actuator 60 can actuate the ride vehicle movement mechanism 62 to move the ride vehicle 12. For example, the ride vehicle movement actuator 60 can be a piston, a hydraulic cylinder, a pneumatic cylinder, another suitable actuator, or the like, and can be coupled to the ride vehicle movement mechanism 62. The ride vehicle movement mechanism 62, upon actuation by the ride vehicle movement actuator 60, can rotate, pivot, or perform any other suitable motion to move the ride vehicle 12 along the surface 26 of the ride area 28 of the ride system 10. For example, the ride vehicle movement mechanism 62 can be a wheel, a sphere (e.g., a steel or rubber ball), a track system, another suitable movement mechanism, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the ride vehicle 12 may include more or fewer ride vehicle movement mechanisms 62 (e.g., two ride vehicle movement mechanisms 62, three ride vehicle movement mechanisms 62, five ride vehicle movement mechanisms 62, etc.) configured to move the ride vehicle 12 along the surface 26 of the ride area 28. In some embodiments, the movement caused by the ride vehicle movement system 42 may be combined with the movement of the passenger supports caused by the passenger support movement system 40. For example, the ride vehicle movement system 42 may pivot, rotate, or otherwise move the ride vehicle 12 along the surface 26 of the ride area 28 of the ride system 10 while the passenger supports 22 are moving relative to the base 20 and / or the surface 26 of the ride area 28.

[0030] The ride vehicle position sensor 64 may output a signal indicative of a position of the ride vehicle 12 within the ride system 10. For example, the ride vehicle position sensor 64 may sense a position of the ride vehicle 12, such as a position of the ride vehicle 12 along the longitudinal axis 16, a position of the ride vehicle 12 along the lateral axis 16, a position of the ride vehicle 12 relative to another ride vehicle 12, a position of the ride vehicle 12 relative to the ride path, a position of the ride vehicle 12 relative to other portions of the ride system 10, or a position of the ride vehicle 12 along a surface 26 of the ride area 28, and output a signal indicative of the position of the ride vehicle 12. The ride vehicle control system 32 may receive a signal indicative of the position of the ride vehicle 12 from the ride vehicle position sensor 64. The ride vehicle control system 32 may adjust the trajectory (e.g., course) of the ride vehicle 12 along the surface 26 of the ride area 28 of the ride system 10 based on the ride vehicle position of the ride vehicle 12. For example, the ride vehicle control system 32 may output signals to the ride vehicle movement actuators 60 to actuate the ride vehicle movement mechanisms 62 to move the ride vehicles 12 along the surface 26 of the ride area 28. In some embodiments, the ride vehicle movement actuators 60 may be omitted or integrated into the ride vehicle movement mechanisms 62 such that the ride vehicle control system 32 may communicate directly with the ride vehicle movement mechanisms 62 to cause the ride vehicles 12 to move. The ride control system 30 may also communicate directly with the ride vehicle movement systems 42, or portions thereof, to control the movement of the ride vehicles 12 along the surface 26 of the ride area 28. The ride control system 30 may individually (e.g., independently, separately and / or differently) control the ride vehicle movement mechanisms 62 of each ride vehicle 12 to control the surface movement of each ride vehicle 12.

[0031] 5 is a side view block diagram of an embodiment of the ride system 10 of FIG. 1 including a roll system 44 of the ride vehicle 12. As described above, the roll system 44 can move the ride vehicle 12 and / or the passenger support 22 at an angle relative to the surface 26 of the ride area 28 of the ride system 10. As shown, the roll system 44 includes a roll actuator 70, a roll mechanism 72, and a roll sensor 74. The roll actuator 70 is configured to actuate the roll mechanism 72 to move the ride vehicle 12 and / or the passenger support 22 at a generally angular position relative to the surface 26 of the ride area 28. For example, the roll actuator 70 can be a piston, a hydraulic cylinder, a pneumatic cylinder, another suitable actuator, or a combination thereof, and can be coupled to the roll mechanism 72. The roll mechanism 72, upon actuation by the roll actuator 70, can rotate, pivot, or perform any other suitable movement to move the ride vehicle 12 and / or the passenger support 22 at a generally angular position relative to the surface 26 of the ride area 28. In some embodiments, the ride vehicle 12 may include additional roll mechanisms 72 (e.g., two roll mechanisms 72, three roll mechanisms 72, five roll mechanisms 72, etc.). The tilting of the ride vehicle 12 and / or the passenger supports 22 may simulate the tilting and turning of the passenger supports 22 via the ride vehicle movement system 42 as the ride vehicle 12 traverses the surface 26 of the ride area 28, or may simulate other motions associated with the movement of the ride vehicle 12.

[0032] In some embodiments, the base 20 can be divided into two components including a first component that remains in contact with the surface 26 of the ride area 28 and a second component that moves relative to the first component and the surface 26 of the ride area 28. The second component can be coupled to the linkage assembly 24 and the passenger support 22 such that when the second component tilts (e.g., rolls) relative to the first component, the passenger support 22 can tilt (e.g., roll) relative to the surface 26 of the ride area 28. For example, a roll actuator 70 and / or a roll mechanism 72 can be coupled to the first component and / or the second component of the base 20 such that when the roll actuator 70 is actuated, the roll mechanism 72 can tilt the second component and the passenger support 22 relative to the first component of the base 20 and the surface 26 of the ride area 28.

[0033] The roll sensor 74 may output a signal indicative of the angular position of the ride vehicle 12 and / or passenger support 22 relative to the base 20 and / or surface 26 of the ride area 28. For example, the roll sensor 74 may sense the angular position of the ride vehicle 12 and / or passenger support 22 about the lateral axis 16 and / or the longitudinal axis 18 and may output a signal indicative of the angular position of the ride vehicle 12 and / or passenger support 22. The ride vehicle control system 32 may receive a signal indicative of the angular position of the ride vehicle 12 and / or passenger support 22 from the roll sensor 74. The ride vehicle control system 32 may coarsely adjust the angular position of the passenger support 22 relative to the base 20 and / or ride vehicle 12 based on the angular position of the ride vehicle 12 and / or passenger support 22. For example, the ride vehicle control system 32 may output a signal to the roll actuator 70 to actuate the roll mechanism 72 to move the passenger support 22 generally at an angle (e.g., tilt / tilt the passenger support 22). In some embodiments, the roll actuator 70 may be omitted or integrated into the roll mechanism 72 such that the ride vehicle control system 32 may communicate directly with the roll mechanism 72 to cause the roll mechanism 72 to move the ride vehicle 12 and / or passenger support 22. The ride control system 30 may also communicate directly with the roll system 44, or a portion thereof, to control the angular movement (e.g., tilt) of the ride vehicle 12 and / or passenger support 22.

[0034] Additionally, the roll motion caused by the roll system 44 may be combined with the motion caused by the passenger support movement system 40 and / or the motion caused by the ride vehicle movement system 42. For example, while the passenger support 22 is tilting left or right (e.g., of the roll motion caused by the roll system 44), the passenger support movement system 40 may move the passenger support 22 generally relative to the base 20 and / or the surface 26 of the ride area 28, and / or the ride vehicle movement system 42 may pivot, rotate, or otherwise move the ride vehicle 12 along the surface 26 of the ride area 28 of the ride system 10. The ride control system 30 may individually (e.g., independently, separately and / or differently) control the roll system 44 of each ride vehicle 12 to control the roll motion of each ride vehicle 12.

[0035] 6 is a block diagram of an embodiment of example components of the ride vehicle control system 32 of the ride vehicle 12 of FIG. 1. For example, in some embodiments, the ride vehicle control system 32 may include a communication component 80, a processor 82, memory 84, storage 86, input / output (I / O) ports 88, and a display 90, etc. The communication component 80 may be a wireless or wired communication component that may facilitate communication between the ride vehicle control system 32 and the ride control system 30, the passenger support movement system 40, the ride vehicle movement system 42, and the roll system 44. For example, the communication component 80 may enable the wireless connection 34 and / or the wired connection of FIGS. 2-5.

[0036] The processor 82 may be any suitable type of computer processor or microprocessor capable of executing computer executable code. The processor 82 may also include multiple processors capable of performing the operations described below. The memory 84 and storage 86 may be any suitable article of manufacture that acts as a medium for storing processor executable code, instructions, data, or the like. These articles of manufacture may represent computer readable media (e.g., any suitable form of memory or storage) capable of storing processor executable code used by the processor 82 to perform the techniques of the present disclosure. The memory 84 and storage 86 may also be used to store data and various other software applications. The memory 84 and storage 86 may represent non-transitory computer readable media (e.g., any suitable form of memory or storage) capable of storing processor executable code (e.g., instructions) used by the processor 82 to perform the various techniques described herein. Note that non-transitory is merely intended to indicate that the medium is tangible and not a signal.

[0037] The I / O port 88 may be an interface that may be coupled to input devices (e.g., keyboard, mouse), sensors, and other peripheral components, such as input / output (I / O) modules. The display 90 may be operable to portray visualizations associated with software or executable code being processed by the processor 82. In one embodiment, the display 90 may be a touch display that may receive input from a passenger of the ride vehicle 12. The display 90 may be any suitable type of display, such as, for example, a liquid crystal display (LCD), a plasma display, or an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display.

[0038] It should be noted that the components described above with respect to ride vehicle control system 32 are example components, and ride vehicle control system 32 may include additional or fewer components as shown. Vehicle control system 30 may also include similar components as shown with respect to ride vehicle control system 32, such as communications components, a processor, memory, storage, input / output (I / O) ports, and / or a display.

[0039] FIG. 7 is a front perspective view of an embodiment of a ride system 10 including the ride vehicles 12 of FIG. 1. As shown, the passenger supports 22 of each ride vehicle 12 are positioned differently relative to one another along the vertical axis 14 and the longitudinal axis 16. The embodiment of FIG. 7 illustrates the relative positions of the ride vehicles 12 and their passenger supports 22 during a ride sequence of the ride system 10. For example, ride vehicle 12A includes a passenger support 22A that is positioned more forward along the longitudinal axis 16 relative to passenger support 22B of ride vehicle 12B and passenger support 22C of ride vehicle 12C. Thus, in the illustrated embodiment, the passenger support movement system 40 of ride vehicle 12A is actuated to move passenger support 22A generally forward relative to the base 20.

[0040] The relative position of the passenger support 22A may be based on a predetermined / staged routine of the ride vehicle 12 and / or passenger input. For example, the ride vehicle 12A may be a selected ride vehicle of the ride vehicles 12A, 12B, and 12C of the ride system 10. A passenger positioned on the passenger support 22A may provide an input to a passenger controller, such as a passenger controller coupled to and / or part of the passenger support 22A, indicating an adjustment to the movement / position of the passenger support 22A. The adjustment may include a generally forward movement of the passenger support 22A relative to the staged routine. Also, as shown, the passenger support 22B of the ride vehicle 12B is positioned slightly forward along the longitudinal axis 16 relative to the passenger support 22C of the ride vehicle 12C. This positioning of the passenger support 22B may be based on the passenger input and / or staged routine provided in the ride vehicle 12A. Thus, a passenger in a selected ride vehicle (e.g., ride vehicle 12A) can provide input (e.g., relative adjustments) that dynamically adjust the movement and positioning of ride vehicles 12 within ride system 10. In some embodiments, the selected ride vehicle can be a different ride vehicle 12 (e.g., ride vehicle 12B or 12C), and the designation of the selected ride vehicle among ride vehicles 12A, 12B, and 12C can change during the choreographed routine and ride sequence of ride system 10.

[0041] FIG. 8 is a rear view of an embodiment of the ride system 10 including the ride vehicle 12 of FIG. 1. As shown, each passenger support 22 of the ride vehicles 12 is disposed at a different position relative to one another along the vertical axis 14, the longitudinal axis 16, and the lateral axis 18. The embodiment of FIG. 8 illustrates the relative positions of the ride vehicles 12 and their passenger supports 22 during a ride sequence of the ride system 10. For example, ride vehicle 12A includes passenger support 22A that is generally higher disposed along the vertical axis 14 relative to passenger support 22B of ride vehicle 12B and passenger support 22C of ride vehicle 12C. The relative position of passenger support 22A can be based on a predetermined / staged routine of the ride vehicles 12 and / or passenger input. For example, the position of passenger support 22A can be the result of a passenger of ride vehicle 12A pulling passenger support 22A upward.

[0042] As shown, each base 20 of the ride vehicles 12 includes an upper base component 94 and a lower base component 96 coupled to one another. Each upper base component 94 is coupled to the linkage assembly 24 and passenger support 22 of the respective ride vehicle 12. Additionally, each upper base component 94 is angularly offset relative to the respective lower base component 96 such that each base 20 provides the amount of roll / tilt for the respective ride vehicle. For example, the roll mechanism 72 of the roll system 44 of each ride vehicle 12 may include the upper base component 94 and / or the lower base component 96. A roll actuator 70 may be coupled to the upper base component 94 and / or the lower base component 96 and configured to actuate the upper base component 94 and passenger support 22 to roll / tilt relative to the lower base component 96 and the surface 26 of the ride area 28. In the illustrated embodiment, the roll actuators 70 of each ride vehicle 12 are actuated to tilt the respective upper base components 94 and passenger supports 22 to the right (e.g., generally downward along the vertical axis 14 and to the right along the horizontal axis 18).

[0043] Figure 9 is a flow chart of a method 100 suitable for controlling the ride system 10 of Figure 1 based on choreographed routines and / or passenger input. Although the following description of method 100 is set forth as being performed by ride control system 30, method 100 as described below may be performed by any suitable computer system. Additionally, although method 100 is described below in a particular order, method 100 may be performed in any suitable order.

[0044] At block 102, ride control system 30 receives inputs indicating choreographed routines for one or more ride vehicles 12. For example, the choreographed routines may include ride paths for each ride vehicle 12 (e.g., choreographed movement of each ride vehicle 12 along surface 26 of ride area 28) and choreographed movement of each ride vehicle 12 along its respective ride path (e.g., choreographed movement of passenger supports along vertical axis 14 and / or longitudinal axis 16, and choreographed roll motion about longitudinal axis 16). In some embodiments, ride system 10 may include multiple and / or different choreographed routines for ride vehicles 12. For example, a first choreographed routine may include a first set of ride paths and choreographed movement of ride vehicles 12 along the ride paths, and a second choreographed routine may include a second set of ride paths and choreographed movement of ride vehicles 12 along a ride path that differs in part or in whole from the first choreographed routine. Multiple / different choreographed routines allow the ride system 10 to provide different experiences to passengers of the ride vehicles 12 to increase re-ridability appeal of the ride system 10. Additionally, some choreographed routines may not include all ride vehicles 12 of the ride system 10. For example, as described in more detail below, the ride system 10 may be configured to dispatch only a subset of the ride vehicles 12 based on the choreographed routine, among other factors.

[0045] In some embodiments, each ride path and choreographed movement of each ride vehicle 12 may be generally similar and may follow a generally similar pattern. For example, the choreographed movement of the ride vehicles 12 may include maintaining a "V" formation while the ride vehicles 12 travel along the ride system 10. In other embodiments, the ride paths and / or choreographed movements of some or all of the ride vehicles 12 may differ from one another.

[0046] At block 104, the ride control system 30 transmits to each ride vehicle 12 a ride path and choreographed motion for each ride vehicle 12 corresponding to the choreographed routine of the ride system 10. The respective ride vehicle control system 32 of each ride vehicle 12 may receive the ride path and choreographed motion and control the ride vehicles 12 based on the ride path and choreographed motion. For example, the ride vehicle control system 32 may control the passenger support movement system 40, the ride vehicle movement system 42, and the roll system 44 to follow the respective ride path and respective choreographed motion. In some embodiments, the ride control system 30 may be configured to be directly communicatively coupled to the passenger support movement system 40, the ride vehicle movement system 42, and / or the roll system 44 of each ride vehicle 12 to control them to follow the respective ride path and respective choreographed motion.

[0047] At block 106, the ride control system 30 receives an input indicating an adjustment to the ride path and / or choreographed movement of the selected ride vehicle 12. For example, the input may be received from a passenger controller 54 of the selected ride vehicle 12 and / or via the ride vehicle control system 32 of the ride vehicle 12 (e.g., the ride vehicle control system 32 may receive an input from the passenger controller 54 and provide the input to the ride control system 30). As described herein, the input to the passenger controller 54 may be a passenger of the selected ride vehicle 12 shifting their weight while positioned on the passenger support 22 of the selected ride vehicle 12, and / or an input provided by the passenger to a hand controller or another control device configured to be controlled by the passenger.

[0048] At block 108, the ride control system 30 may control the selected ride vehicle 12 based on the inputs indicating the ride path, the choreographed motion, and adjustments to the ride path and / or choreographed motion of the selected ride vehicle 12. For example, inputs received from the passenger controller 54 may cause the ride control system 30 to dynamically adjust the motion of the passenger support along the vertical axis 14 and / or the longitudinal axis 16, the roll motion of the ride vehicle 12 and / or the passenger support 22 about the longitudinal axis 16, and / or the motion along the surface 26 of the ride area 28 of the ride system 10. The adjustments to the motion may include adjustments to the choreographed ride path of the selected ride vehicle 12.

[0049] At block 110, the ride control system 30 may control other ride vehicles 12 of the ride system 10 (e.g., other than the selected ride vehicle 12) based on the respective ride paths of each ride vehicle 12, the respective choreographed motion of each ride vehicle 12, and inputs indicating adjustments to the ride path and / or choreographed motion of the selected ride vehicle 12. As discussed above, the respective ride paths and the choreographed motion of each ride vehicle 12 along the respective ride paths may follow a generally similar pattern, or the ride paths and / or choreographed motion of some ride vehicles 12 may differ. The ride control system 30 may receive inputs from the passenger controllers 54 to adjust the ride paths and / or choreographed motion of both the selected ride vehicle 12 and the other ride vehicles 12 of the ride system 10 as the ride vehicles 12 are moving along the surface 26 of the ride area 28, such as in the "V" formation discussed above. The adjustments to the other ride vehicles 12 may be of a different magnitude compared to the adjustments to the selected ride vehicle 12. For example, if the input at the passenger controller 54 is to cause the ride control system 30 to move the selected ride vehicle 12 upward (e.g., simulating a passenger in the selected ride vehicle 12 pulling the selected ride vehicle 12 upward), the ride control system 30 may cause other ride vehicles 12 to also move upward and / or by various amounts. Other ride vehicles 12 immediately adjacent to the selected ride vehicle 12 may move upward more so than other ride vehicles 12 in the ride system 10. Thus, the ride system 10, via the ride control system 30, may simulate the movement of the other ride vehicles 12 based on the input provided at the selected ride vehicle 12 such that the passenger in the selected ride vehicle 12 appears to be the leader of passengers within the ride system 10.

[0050] 10 is a rear view of an embodiment of a ride system 10 including the ride vehicle 12 of FIG. 1 disposed proximate to a display system 118 of the ride system 10 including a screen 120 and a projector 122. The display system 118 is configured to provide a cinematic presentation for viewing by passengers located on the ride vehicle 12 (e.g., located on the passenger support 22 of the ride vehicle 12). For example, the screen 120 of the display system 118 may be a video board configured to provide a cinematic presentation and / or the projector 122 may be configured to project a cinematic presentation onto the screen 120 for viewing by passengers on the ride vehicle 12. In some embodiments, the projector 122 may be omitted from the display system 118.

[0051] The ride control system 30 may control / coordinate the movement of the ride vehicles 12 and / or passenger supports 22 based on the cinematic presentation. For example, the ride control system 30 may control the passenger support movement system 40, the ride vehicle movement system 42, and the roll system 44 of each ride vehicle 12 based on the cinematic presentation to simulate the movement of the ride vehicles 12 within the scenes of the cinematic presentation. In some embodiments, the ride vehicles 12 remain in generally the same position on the surface 26 of the ride area 28 during the cinematic presentation, and the passenger supports 22 may move vertically, longitudinally, and angularly relative to the surface 26 of the ride area 28 during the cinematic presentation.

[0052] In some embodiments, the ride control system 30 can control / adjust the movement of the ride vehicle 12 and / or the passenger supports 22 based on inputs provided at the selected ride vehicle 12. For example, the cinematic presentation can include multiple optional storylines that can be selected based on inputs received from the passenger controller 54. Each option / storyline can correspond to a particular and / or different choreographed routine or different portion of a choreographed routine for the passenger supports 22. Thus, the ride system 10 can provide an interactive experience to the passengers of the ride vehicle 12 via the display system 118 that allows the passengers to control the storylines of the ride system 10 and the choreographed movement of the passenger supports 22. In some embodiments, the ride control system 30 can instruct the display system 118 to provide the cinematic presentation (e.g., instruct the screen 120 to provide the cinematic presentation and / or instruct the projector 122 to project the cinematic presentation onto the screen 120).

[0053] FIG. 11 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the ride system 10 of FIG. 1 including a ride station 130 and a ride vehicle 12 disposed within the ride station 130. As shown, the ride station 130 includes a bay 132 for each ride vehicle 12. For example, each bay 132 can be configured to receive and / or house a respective ride vehicle 12 while the ride vehicle 12 is not present within the ride area 28 of the ride system 10. The ride vehicles 12 can also be configured to receive passengers while disposed within the bay 132. For example, passengers can travel along a platform 136 of the ride station 130 to board the passenger supports 22 of the ride vehicles 12. The ride vehicles 12 can exit the bay 132 and travel into the ride area 28 to perform a choreographed routine (e.g., travel along a respective choreographed ride path and perform choreographed movements while traveling along the ride path). For example, after passengers have boarded the ride vehicle 12, a gate 138 coupled to the platform 136 and positioned proximate to the bay 132 may open to allow the ride vehicle 12 to exit the bay 132. As shown, the gate 138 is in an open position to allow the ride vehicle 12 to exit the bay 132.

[0054] Figure 12 is a perspective view of an embodiment of a ride system 10 including the ride station 130 of Figure 11 and a ride vehicle 12 disposed within the ride area 28 proximate the ride station 130. As shown, the ride vehicle 12 has been moved from a position within a bay 132 (e.g., the position shown in Figure 11) to a position within the ride area 28. The embodiment of Figure 12 may be the beginning of a choreographed routine for the ride system 10, with the ride vehicle 12 exiting the bay 132 and turning (e.g., via the ride vehicle movement system 42) to face generally away from the ride station 130.

[0055] As shown, all four ride vehicles 12 depart from the ride station 130 and move into the ride area 28. In some embodiments, only a subset of the ride vehicles 12 (e.g., in the illustrated embodiment, one ride vehicle 12, two ride vehicles 12, or three ride vehicles) may depart from the ride station 130. The quantity of ride vehicles 12 may depend on the party size of the passengers boarding or located on the ride vehicles 12, the staged routine of the ride vehicles 12 (e.g., as discussed above, some staged routines may not include all ride vehicles 12 in the ride system 10), and other factors. In some embodiments, the ride vehicles 12 may transition from a position in the bay 132 of FIG. 11 and / or a position in the ride area 28 of FIG. 12 to a position in front of the screen 120 of FIG. 10. Thus, the ride system 10 may dispatch some or all of the ride vehicles 12 to provide a customized / personalized experience to the passengers of the ride vehicles 12.

[0056] FIG. 13 is a rear perspective view of an embodiment of a ride system 160 including a ride vehicle 162 and a platform 164. In general, the ride vehicle 162 and / or the ride system 160 can include a system configured to move the ride vehicle 162 along the vertical axis 14, the longitudinal axis 16, and / or the lateral axis 18. For example, as described below with reference to FIG. 14, the ride vehicle 162 can be configured to move within a slot 166 of the platform 164 (e.g., from the rear portion 168 toward the forward portion 170) via a ride vehicle movement system. Additionally, each ride vehicle 162 can include a passenger support movement system configured to move a passenger support 172 of the ride vehicle 162 generally along the vertical axis 14, along the longitudinal axis 16, and / or relative to the platform 164. In some embodiments, each ride vehicle 162 can include a roll system configured to roll / tilt the passenger support 172 relative to the platform 164 about the longitudinal axis 16. Each passenger support 172 is configured to carry a passenger, and ride system 160 is configured to provide an entertainment experience for each passenger. For example, as a ride vehicle 162 moves within slot 166, a passenger may also move while positioned on passenger support 172. As shown, ride system 160 includes four ride vehicles 162. In some embodiments, ride system 160 may include more or fewer ride vehicles 162 (e.g., one ride vehicle 162, two ride vehicles 162, three ride vehicles 162, five ride vehicles 162, eight ride vehicles 162, etc.).

[0057] Ride system 160 may also include a ride control system 30, and each ride vehicle 162 may include a ride vehicle control system 32 as described above with respect to ride system 10. Ride control system 30 may control the movement of ride vehicles 162 based on a choreographed routine (e.g., via communication with ride vehicle control system 32 of each ride vehicle 162). For example, ride control system 30 may control a passenger support movement system, a ride vehicle movement system, and / or a roll system of each ride vehicle 162 to move each ride vehicle 162 according to a choreographed routine. As described in more detail below, ride control system 30 may also control ride vehicles 162 based on inputs received from selected ones of ride vehicles 162.

[0058] 14 is a rear perspective view of an embodiment of a ride system 160 including the ride vehicles 162 of FIG. As shown, the ride vehicles 162 are disposed in a forward portion 170 of a slot 166. Each ride vehicle 162 includes a respective passenger support 172, a linkage 180 coupled to the passenger support 172, and a base 182 coupled to the linkage 180. While the ride vehicles 162 are disposed in the forward portion 170 of the slot 166, a portion of the passenger support 172 and each linkage 180 extends beyond the platform 164. This extension beyond the platform 164 may provide the appearance of the passenger support 172 flying and / or provide an entertainment experience to each passenger positioned on the passenger support 172.

[0059] As shown, each ride vehicle 162 includes a passenger support movement system 190 and a ride vehicle movement system 192. The passenger support movement system 190 of each ride vehicle 162 is configured to move the passenger support 172 relative to the platform 164 along the vertical axis 14 and along the longitudinal axis 16 (e.g., generally about the lateral axis 18). The passenger support movement system 190 may include a linkage 180, a base 182, or a portion thereof. For example, the passenger support movement system 190 may include a support actuator coupled to the linkage 180 and / or the base 182 and configured to actuate the linkage 180 to move relative to the base 182 and the platform 164.

[0060] The ride vehicle movement system 192 includes a track 194 disposed below the platform 164 and extending generally along the longitudinal axis 16. The track 194 is coupled to the base 182 such that the base 182 can move along the longitudinal axis 16 within the track 194. For example, the ride vehicle movement system 192 can include a base movement actuator configured to actuate the base 182 to move within the track 194 relative to the platform 164. As the base 182 moves along the track 194, the linkage 180 also moves within the slot 166.

[0061] In some embodiments, ride system 160 and / or each ride vehicle 162 can include a roll system configured to angularly move passenger support 172 about longitudinal axis 16 relative to base 182. For example, the roll system can include a roll actuator configured to actuate passenger support 172 to move relative to base 182 and platform 164.

[0062] Each of the passenger support movement systems 190, ride vehicle movement systems 192, and roll systems may be controlled based on a routine choreographed by the ride control system 30 and / or the ride vehicle control system 32 of each ride vehicle 162. For example, the choreographed routine may include specific movements of each passenger support 172 along the vertical axis 14, the longitudinal axis 16, and the lateral axis 18 executed by the respective passenger support movement systems 190, ride vehicle movement systems 192, and roll systems of each ride vehicle 162. The choreographed movements of each passenger support 172 may be different, or the choreographed movements of some or all of the passenger supports 172 may be generally the same. In the illustrated embodiment, each passenger support 172 is located at a different position along the vertical axis 14. For example, the embodiment of FIG. 14 shows a ride vehicle 162 including each passenger support at a different position along the vertical axis 14 during a ride sequence of the ride system 160. In some embodiments, as described in further detail below, the ride control system 30 may also control the ride vehicles 162 based on inputs provided to the passenger controller of a selected ride vehicle 162 in addition to or in lieu of the choreographed movement of the choreographed routine.

[0063] Ride system 160 includes display system 118. Display system 118 is configured to provide a cinematic presentation for viewing by passengers located on ride vehicles 162 (e.g., located on passenger supports 172 of ride vehicles 162). Ride control system 30 can control / coordinate movement of ride vehicles 162 and / or passenger supports 172 based on the cinematic presentation. For example, ride control system 30 can control passenger support movement system 190, ride vehicle movement system 192, and roll system of each ride vehicle 162 based on the cinematic presentation to simulate movement of ride vehicles 162 within the scenes of the cinematic presentation. In some embodiments, ride control system 30 can instruct display system 118 to provide the cinematic presentation.

[0064] Figure 15 is a flow chart of a method 200 suitable for controlling the ride system 160 of Figure 13 based on choreographed routines and / or passenger input. Although the following description of method 200 is set forth as being performed by ride control system 30, method 200 described below may be performed by any suitable computer system. Additionally, although method 200 is described below in a particular order, method 200 may be performed in any suitable order.

[0065] At block 202, the ride control system 30 receives an input indicating a choreographed routine for one or more ride vehicles 162. For example, the choreographed routine may include choreographed passenger support movement of each passenger support 172 along the vertical axis 14 and / or the longitudinal axis 16, and a choreographed roll motion about the longitudinal axis 16. In some embodiments, the ride system 160 may include multiple and / or different choreographed routines for the ride vehicles 162. For example, a first choreographed routine may include a first set of choreographed movements for the ride vehicles 162, and a second choreographed routine may include a second set of choreographed movements for the ride vehicles 162 that are partially or entirely different from the first choreographed routine. The multiple / different choreographed routines enable the ride system 160 to provide passengers of the ride vehicles 162 with a variety of experiences to increase the attractiveness of re-boarding the ride system 160. Also, some choreographed routines may not include all of the ride vehicles 162 of the ride system 160. For example, the ride system 160 may be configured to dispatch only a subset of the ride vehicles 162 based on a choreographed routine, among other factors (e.g., party size).

[0066] At block 204, the ride control system 30 transmits to each ride vehicle 162 a choreographed movement of each ride vehicle 162 corresponding to the choreographed routine of the ride system 160. The respective ride vehicle control system 32 of each ride vehicle 162 may receive the choreographed movement and control the ride vehicle 162 based on the choreographed movement. For example, the ride vehicle control system 32 may control the passenger support movement system 190, the ride vehicle movement system 192, and the roll system to follow the respective choreographed movements. In some embodiments, the ride control system 30 may be configured to be directly communicatively coupled to the passenger support movement system 190, the ride vehicle movement system 192, and / or the roll system of each ride vehicle 162 to control them to follow the respective choreographed movements.

[0067] At block 206, the ride control system 30 receives inputs indicating adjustments to the ride path and / or choreographed movement of the selected ride vehicle 162. For example, some or all of the ride vehicles 162 may include a passenger controller 54, and one ride vehicle 162 may be designated as the selected ride vehicle 162 for a given period during the ride sequence of the ride system 160. The inputs may be received from the passenger controller 54 of the selected ride vehicle 162 and / or via the ride vehicle control system 32 of the ride vehicle 162 (e.g., the ride vehicle control system 32 may receive inputs from the passenger controller 54 and provide the inputs to the ride control system 30). As described herein, the inputs to the passenger controller 54 may be a passenger of the selected ride vehicle 162 shifting their weight while positioned on the passenger support 172 of the selected ride vehicle 162 and / or inputs provided by the passenger to a hand controller or another control device.

[0068] At block 208, the ride control system 30 may control the selected ride vehicle 162 based on the choreographed motion and inputs indicating adjustments to the choreographed motion of the selected ride vehicle 162. For example, inputs received from the passenger controller 54 may cause the ride control system 30 to dynamically adjust the motion of the passenger support along the vertical axis 14 and / or the longitudinal axis 16, the roll motion of the ride vehicle 162 and / or the passenger support 172 about the longitudinal axis 16, and / or the motion of the ride system 160 along the track 194.

[0069] At block 210, the ride control system 30 may control the other ride vehicles 162 of the ride system 160 (e.g., other than the selected ride vehicle 162) based on the respective choreographed motion of each ride vehicle 162 and inputs indicating adjustments to the choreographed motion of the selected ride vehicle 162. As described above, the respective choreographed motion of each ride vehicle 162 may follow a generally similar pattern, or the choreographed motion of some ride vehicles 162 may differ. The ride control system 30 may receive inputs from the passenger controllers 54 to adjust the choreographed motion of both the selected ride vehicle 162 and the other ride vehicles 162 of the ride system 160 as the ride vehicles 162 are moving within the track 194, such as in a "V" formation. The adjustments to the other ride vehicles 162 may be of a different magnitude compared to the adjustments to the selected ride vehicle 162. For example, if the input at the passenger controller 54 is to cause the ride control system 30 to move the selected ride vehicle 162 upward (e.g., simulating a passenger in the selected ride vehicle 162 pulling the selected ride vehicle 162 upward), the ride control system 30 may cause the other ride vehicles 162 to also move upward and / or by various amounts. Other ride vehicles 162 immediately adjacent to the selected ride vehicle 162 may move upward more so than other ride vehicles 162 in the ride system 160. Thus, the ride system 160 may simulate the movement of the other ride vehicles 162 based on the input provided at the selected ride vehicle 162 via the ride control system 30 such that the passenger in the selected ride vehicle 162 appears to be the leader of passengers within the ride system 160.

[0070] 16 is a perspective view of an embodiment of a ride system 220 including a ride track 222 and a ride vehicle 224 disposed on the ride track 222. As shown, the ride vehicle 224 includes a base 226 coupled to the ride track 222 and a passenger support 228 coupled to the base 226 via a respective linkage assembly 230. The ride vehicle 224 includes a system configured to move the ride vehicle 224 along the ride track 222 and move the passenger support 228 relative to the base 226 for the entertainment of passengers riding on the passenger support 228 of the ride vehicle 224. For example, the ride vehicle 224 includes a ride vehicle movement system 232 configured to move the base 226 along the ride track 222. The ride vehicle movement system 232 may include a base movement actuator, wheels, gears, and other suitable mechanisms configured to move the base 226 along the ride track 222. The movement and / or speed of the ride vehicle 224 along the ride trajectory 222 (eg, via the base 226 ) may be based on a choreographed routine of the ride system 220 .

[0071] The ride vehicle 224 also includes a passenger support movement system 240 configured to move each passenger support 228 relative to one another, relative to the ride track 222, and / or relative to the base 226. Each passenger support movement system 240 may include a respective passenger support 228, a respective linkage assembly 230, and / or a support actuator. The support actuator may be configured to actuate the linkage assembly 230 to move the passenger support 228 relative to the base 226 and / or the ride track 222. The linkages 242 of the linkage assembly 230 may rotate relative to one another (e.g., via a pivot to which the linkages 242 are coupled) to move the passenger support 228 relative to the base 226 and / or the ride track 222 after actuation by the support actuator. For example, the first linkage 242 may be coupled to the support actuator and the second linkage 242. The support actuator may cause movement of the second linkage 242 and the passenger support 228 by moving the first linkage 242. In some embodiments, the linkage assembly 230 may include additional mechanisms that enable / cause movement of the passenger support 228 generally along the vertical axis 14 and / or the longitudinal axis 16, such as pins connecting the linkages 242, additional actuators coupled to and / or configured to move both linkages 242, and other suitable mechanisms.

[0072] The ride vehicle 224 includes a roll system 250 configured to move the ride vehicle 224 angularly relative to the ride track 222 (e.g., rotate the ride vehicle 224 relative to the longitudinal axis 16 and the ride track 222). The roll system 250 may include a base 226 and a roll actuator configured to move the base 226 angularly relative to the ride track 222. For example, the roll actuator may be configured to actuate the base 226 to move angularly relative to the ride track 222. In some embodiments, the ride vehicle 224 may include multiple roll systems 250, each configured to move a respective passenger support 228 angularly relative to the base 226 (e.g., rotate about the longitudinal axis 16 and the base 226).

[0073] Additionally, ride system 220 may include a ride control system 30 and / or each passenger support 228 may include a ride vehicle control system 32 as described above with respect to ride system 10. The ride control system 30 may control the movement of the ride vehicles 224 based on a choreographed routine (e.g., via communication with the ride vehicle control system 32 of each passenger support 228). For example, the ride control system 30 may control the passenger support movement system 240 and roll system of the ride vehicles 224 of each passenger support 228 to move the ride vehicles 224 and each passenger support 228 according to a choreographed routine. As described in more detail below, the ride control system 30 may also control the ride vehicles 224 and passenger supports 228 based on inputs received from selected ones of the passenger supports 228. In some embodiments, the ride vehicles 224 may include an independent controller, such as a controller similar to the ride vehicle control system 32, configured to control the ride vehicles 224.

[0074] Figure 17 is a flow chart of a method 260 suitable for controlling the ride system 220 of Figure 16 based on choreographed routines and / or passenger input. Although the following description of method 260 is set forth as being performed by ride control system 30, method 260 described below may be performed by any suitable computer system. Additionally, although method 260 is described below in a particular order, method 260 may be performed in any suitable order.

[0075] At block 262, ride control system 30 receives inputs indicating choreographed routines for ride vehicles 224 and passenger supports 228. For example, the choreographed routines may include choreographed ride vehicle motion of ride vehicles 224 along ride track 222, choreographed roll motion of ride vehicles 224 about longitudinal axis 16, and choreographed passenger support motion of each passenger support 228 along vertical axis 14 and / or longitudinal axis 16. In some embodiments, ride system 220 may include multiple and / or different choreographed routines for passenger supports 228. For example, a first choreographed routine may include a first set of choreographed movements of passenger supports 228, and a second choreographed routine may include a second set of choreographed movements of passenger supports 228 that differ in part or in whole from the first choreographed routine. The multiple / different choreographed routines enable ride system 220 to provide different experiences to passengers of passenger supports 228 to increase the attractiveness of re-boarding ride system 220.

[0076] At block 264, the ride control system 30 transmits to each passenger support 228 a choreographed movement of each passenger support 228 corresponding to the choreographed routine of the ride system 220. The respective ride vehicle control system 32 of each passenger support 228 may receive the choreographed movement and control the passenger support 228 based on the choreographed movement. For example, the ride vehicle control system 32 of each passenger support 228 may control the respective passenger support movement system 240. In some embodiments, the ride control system 30 may be communicatively coupled directly to the passenger support movement system 240 and configured to control the passenger support movement system 240 to follow the respective choreographed movement. The ride control system 30 may also control the ride vehicle movement system 232 and / or the roll system 250 of the ride vehicle 224 based on the choreographed routine.

[0077] At block 266, the ride control system 30 receives input indicating an adjustment to the choreographed movement of the selected passenger support 228. For example, some or all of the passenger supports 228 may include a passenger controller 54, and one passenger support 228 may be designated as the selected passenger support 228 at a given time during the ride sequence of the ride system 220. The input may be received from the passenger controller 54 of the selected passenger support 228 and / or via the ride vehicle control system 32 of the selected passenger support 228 (e.g., the ride vehicle control system 32 may receive input from the passenger controller 54 and provide the input to the ride control system 30). As described herein, the input to the passenger controller 54 may be a passenger of the selected passenger support 228 shifting their weight while positioned on the selected passenger support 228 and / or an input provided by the passenger to a hand controller or another control device configured to be controlled by the passenger.

[0078] At block 268, the ride control system 30 may control the selected passenger support 228 based on the choreographed motion and inputs indicative of adjustments to the choreographed motion of the selected passenger support 228. For example, inputs received from the passenger controller 54 may cause the ride control system 30 to dynamically adjust the motion of the passenger support along the vertical axis 14 and / or the longitudinal axis 16. In some embodiments, the ride control system 30 may control the motion of the ride vehicle and / or the roll motion of the ride vehicle 224 (e.g., via the ride vehicle movement system 232 and / or the roll system 250) based on the choreographed routine and inputs indicative of adjustments to the choreographed motion. For example, inputs provided by the passenger of the selected passenger support 228 may cause the ride control system 30 to adjust the motion of the ride vehicle and / or the roll motion of the ride vehicle 224.

[0079] At block 270, the ride control system 30 may control other passenger supports 228 (e.g., other than the selected passenger support 228) of the ride system 220 based on the respective choreographed motion of each passenger support 228 and inputs indicating adjustments to the choreographed motion of the selected passenger support 228. As described above, the respective choreographed motion of each passenger support 228 may follow a generally similar pattern, or the choreographed motion of some passenger supports 228 may differ. The ride control system 30 may receive inputs from the passenger controller 54 to adjust the choreographed motion of both the selected passenger support 228 and other passenger supports 228 of the ride vehicle 224 as the passenger supports 228 are moving along the ride track 222, such as in a "V" formation (e.g., via the base 226). The adjustments to the other passenger supports 228 may be of a different magnitude compared to the adjustments to the selected passenger support 228. For example, if an input at the passenger controller 54 is to cause the ride control system 30 to move the selected passenger support 228 upward (e.g., to simulate the passenger of the selected passenger support 228 pulling the selected passenger support 228 upward), the ride control system 30 may cause the other passenger supports 228 to also move upward and / or by various amounts. The other passenger supports 228 immediately adjacent to the selected passenger support 228 may move upward more so than the other passenger supports 228 of the ride vehicle 224. Thus, the ride system 220 may simulate, via the ride control system 30, the movement of the other passenger supports 228 based on the input provided at the selected passenger support 228 such that the passenger of the selected passenger support 228 appears to be the leader of the passengers within the ride system 220.

[0080] As discussed above, embodiments of the ride system of the present disclosure may provide one or more technical effects useful for enhancing the experience of passengers while riding on the ride vehicles and passenger supports of the ride vehicles in the ride system. For example, some ride systems may include multiple ride vehicles that may carry passengers within a ride area to entertain and / or transport the passengers. The movement of the ride vehicles may be directed along a ride path and / or relative to each other and other parts of the ride system. Additionally, the ride vehicles may include passenger supports that may move in a particular direction relative to the surface of the ride area of the ride system and / or may carry passengers and move relative to the surface of the ride area of the ride system and / or other parts of the ride vehicles. For example, the ride vehicles may include mechanisms and portions (e.g., passenger supports) that may move vertically relative to the surface of the ride area and the base of the ride vehicle, may move horizontally in various directions (e.g., move in any planar direction, rotate and swivel), and may roll (e.g., tilt and / or move at an angle relative to the surface of the ride area). In some embodiments, the ride system and / or the ride vehicle may include a control system that controls the movement of the ride vehicle within the ride area. For example, the control system may adjust the trajectory or course of travel of the ride vehicle based on the position of the ride vehicle relative to the ride path (e.g., based on the actual position of the ride vehicle relative to the intended position of the ride vehicle along the ride path).

[0081] In some embodiments, the ride vehicles of the ride system may include a selected ride vehicle configured to lead the ride vehicles. A passenger riding in the selected vehicle may provide input such as shifting his / her weight, controlling a joystick or other hand controller, pressing a button, or a combination thereof. The controller of the selected ride vehicle and / or the ride system may adjust the trajectory of the selected ride vehicle and / or the movement of the passenger support of the selected ride vehicle based on the passenger input. For example, if a passenger in the selected ride vehicle provides an input indicating to pull the passenger support of the selected ride vehicle upward and tilt the passenger support to the left, the controller may adjust the movement of the selected ride vehicle to move the passenger support generally upward and to the left from the planned choreographed ride path. The ride system controller may also adjust the movement of some or all of the other ride vehicles and / or passenger supports of the other ride vehicles in the ride system. The adjustments to the movement of the other ride vehicles may generally correspond to the movement of the selected ride vehicle, may reflect the movement of the selected ride vehicle, and / or may be of a varying / different degree compared to the movement of the selected ride vehicle. Thus, embodiments of the ride systems described herein may enable passengers to at least partially control the ride vehicle, and may enable the ride system to dynamically adjust the motion of the ride vehicle based on inputs provided by the passengers. Thus, the ride system may provide an entertaining and interactive experience for the passengers.
