[0009] [Description of the embodiments of the present disclosure] First, the contents of the embodiments of the present disclosure will be listed and described.

[0010] The cable with an electrical connector of the present disclosure is, [1] "a cable with an electrical connector comprising: a ferrule having a tip surface and an insertion hole opening into the tip surface; a flat cable having a plurality of conductors arranged in parallel and an insulating coating covering the plurality of conductors collectively, wherein tip regions of the conductors are inserted into the insertion hole in a state exposed from the coating, and the ferrule includes a dielectric constant adjustment hole formed in a position on the tip surface surrounding the insertion hole and for adjusting the dielectric constant around the insertion hole."

[0011] In the cable with electrical connector described in [1] above, the ferrule includes a dielectric constant adjustment hole formed in the tip face at a position around the insertion hole and for adjusting the dielectric constant around the insertion hole. This suppresses unevenness in the dielectric constant distribution around the conductor. Therefore, the deterioration of communication performance caused by impedance mismatch is suppressed. Therefore, with this cable with electrical connector, the deterioration of communication performance can be suppressed.

[0012] The cable with electric connector of the present disclosure may be [2] "the cable with electric connector described in [1] above, further comprising a dielectric constant adjuster disposed inside the dielectric constant adjustment hole." In this case, the degree of freedom in adjusting the dielectric constant around the insertion hole is improved.

[0013] The cable with an electric connector of the present disclosure may be [3] "the cable with an electric connector according to the above [1] or [2], wherein the ferrule further has a rear end face facing the opposite side to the front end face, and the dielectric constant adjustment hole is inclined so as to approach the insertion hole from the front end face toward the rear end face." In this case, unevenness in the dielectric constant distribution around the boundary between the front end region of the conductor and the covering region of the conductor that is covered by the covering is reliably suppressed.

[0014] The cable with electric connector of the present disclosure may be [4] "the cable with electric connector according to any one of [1] to [3] above, in which the plurality of conductors are aligned along a first direction, and the flat cable is each of a plurality of flat cables stacked in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction." In this case, the deterioration of the communication performance of the plurality of flat cables is suppressed.

[0015] The cable with an electric connector of the present disclosure may be [5] "the cable with an electric connector according to any one of [1] to [4] above, in which the flat cable is bent inside the ferrule." In this case, the degree of freedom in arranging the cable with an electric connector is improved.

[0016] The cable with electric connector of the present disclosure may be [6] "the cable with electric connector according to any one of [1] to [5] above, in which the dielectric constant adjustment hole extends along the outer edge of the insertion hole when viewed from a direction perpendicular to the tip surface." In this case, the dielectric constant around the insertion hole can be appropriately adjusted. [Details of the embodiment of the present disclosure] Specific examples of the cable with electrical connector of the present disclosure will be described below with reference to the drawings. The present disclosure is not limited to these examples, but is defined by the claims, and is intended to include all modifications within the meaning and scope of the claims. In the description of the drawings, the same elements are given the same reference numerals, and duplicated descriptions will be omitted.

[0017] Fig. 1 is a front view of the cable with electric connector of this embodiment. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the cable with electric connector taken along line II-II shown in Fig. 1. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the cable with electric connector 1 includes a ferrule 2, a first flat cable 3, and a second flat cable 4. The ferrule 2 includes a front end face 2a and a rear end face 2b. The front end face 2a and the rear end face 2b are each flat surfaces that intersect with the Y-axis direction (orthogonal in this embodiment). The rear end face 2b faces the opposite side to the front end face 2a.

[0018] The ferrule 2 includes a plurality of first insertion holes 2c and a plurality of second insertion holes 2d. The first insertion holes 2c extend along the Y-axis direction and open to the tip surface 2a. The first insertion holes 2c have, for example, a circular shape when viewed from the Y-axis direction. The multiple first insertion holes 2c are aligned along the X-axis direction when viewed from the Y-axis direction.

[0019] The second insertion hole 2d extends along the Y-axis direction and opens to the tip surface 2a. When viewed from the Y-axis direction, the second insertion hole 2d has, for example, a circular shape. When viewed from the Y-axis direction, the multiple second insertion holes 2d are aligned along the X-axis direction. When viewed from the Y-axis direction, the multiple second insertion holes 2d are located next to the multiple first insertion holes 2c in the Z-axis direction.

[0020] The ferrule 2 includes a first space 2g and a second space 2h. The first space 2g and the second space 2h each open to the rear end face 2b. A central portion of the first space 2g overlaps with the first insertion holes 2c when viewed from the Y-axis direction. The first space 2g is connected to each of the first insertion holes 2c. A central portion of the second space 2h overlaps with the second insertion holes 2d when viewed from the Y-axis direction. The second space 2h is connected to each of the second insertion holes 2d.

[0021] The ferrule 2 includes a plurality of first dielectric constant adjustment holes 2e and a plurality of second dielectric constant adjustment holes 2f. The first dielectric constant adjustment holes 2e are formed in the tip face 2a at positions around the first insertion holes 2c. In this embodiment, the first dielectric constant adjustment holes 2e are formed around each of the first insertion holes 2c. The second dielectric constant adjustment holes 2f are formed in the tip face 2a at positions around the second insertion holes 2d. In this embodiment, the second dielectric constant adjustment holes 2f are formed around each of the second insertion holes 2d.

[0022] The ferrule 2 is mainly made of, for example, PEI (polyetherimide), PPS (polyphenylene sulfide), PC (polycarbonate), PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate), PES (polyethersulfone), or the like.

[0023] Each of the first flat cable 3 and the second flat cable 4 is, for example, a flexible flat cable (FFC). Each of the first flat cable 3 and the second flat cable 4 has a length direction in the Y-axis direction and a width direction in the X-axis direction (first direction). The first flat cable 3 and the second flat cable 4 are laminated in the Z-axis direction (second direction perpendicular to the first direction).

[0024] The first flat cable 3 has a plurality of first conductors 31 arranged in parallel, and a first coating 32 which is an insulating coating that collectively covers the plurality of first conductors 31. The first conductors 31 are, for example, fiber-shaped. The first conductors 31 extend along the Y-axis direction. The first conductors 31 are, for example, circular in a cross section along the XZ plane. The plurality of first conductors 31 are lined up along the X-axis direction (first direction). The material of the first conductors 31 is, for example, copper or a copper alloy. The first conductors 31 function, for example, as a signal line. At least one of the plurality of first conductors 31 may function, for example, as a ground line.

[0025] The first coating 32 bundles a plurality of first conductors 31. The first conductors 31 include a tip region 31b and a coated region 31c. The tip region 31b is a region of the first conductors 31 that includes a tip surface 31a of the first conductors 31 and is exposed from the first coating 32. The coated region 31c is covered by the first coating 32.

[0026] The tip region 31b of the first conductor 31 is inserted into the first insertion hole 2c in a state where it is exposed from the first coating 32. The tip region 31b is inserted into the first insertion hole 2c so that the tip face 31a is exposed from the tip face 2a of the ferrule 2. In other words, the tip face 31a of the first conductor 31 is not covered by the ferrule 2. The covered region 31c of the first conductor 31 is disposed in the first space 2g in a state where it is covered by the first coating 32.

[0027] The second flat cable 4 has a similar configuration to the first flat cable 3. That is, the second flat cable 4 has a plurality of second conductors 41 arranged in parallel, and a second coating 42 which is an insulating coating that collectively covers the plurality of second conductors 41. The second conductor 41 has, for example, a fiber shape. The second conductor 41 extends along the Y-axis direction. The second conductor 41 has, for example, a circular shape in a cross section along the XZ plane. The plurality of second conductors 41 are arranged along the X-axis direction (first direction). The material of the second conductor 41 is, for example, copper or a copper alloy. The second conductor 41 functions, for example, as a signal line. At least one second conductor 41 among the plurality of second conductors 41 may function, for example, as a ground line.

[0028] The second coating 42 bundles the second conductors 41. The second conductors 41 include a tip region 41b and a coated region 41c. The tip region 41b is a region of the second conductors 41 that includes a tip surface 41a of the second conductor 41 and is exposed from the second coating 42. The coated region 41c is covered by the second coating 42.

[0029] The tip region 41b of the second conductor 41 is inserted into the second insertion hole 2d in a state where it is exposed from the second coating 42. The tip region 41b is inserted into the second insertion hole 2d so that the tip face 41a is exposed from the tip face 2a of the ferrule 2. In other words, the tip face 41a of the second conductor 41 is not covered by the ferrule 2. The covered region 41c of the second conductor 41 is disposed in the second space 2h in a state where it is covered by the second coating 42.

[0030] The tip surface 31a of the first conductor 31, the tip surface 41a of the second conductor 41, and the tip surface 2a of the ferrule 2 are located on substantially the same plane. "Substantially the same" includes not only "completely the same" but also "same within a certain margin of error." The certain margin of error is, for example, about several μm. The tip surface 31a of the first conductor 31 and the tip surface 41a of the second conductor 41 may protrude or recede from the tip surface 2a of the ferrule 2 within a range in which the first conductor 31 and the second conductor 41 can be electrically connected to the mating connector (receptacle). For example, in the connector-attached cable of the present invention, the conductor may protrude from the ferrule surface, and the conductor on the connector side and the conductor on the receptacle side may be electrically connected to each other by the amount protruding from the ferrule surface and being accommodated in the receptacle from the receptacle surface (with the ferrule end surface and the receptacle end surface in contact with each other). Since the tip surface 31a of the first conductor 31 and the tip surface 41a of the second conductor 41 are electrically connected to the connection partner (a connector or a terminal or pad provided on a substrate), no stubs are generated and degradation of communication performance is suppressed.

[0031] The first covering 32 of the first flat cable 3 will be described in detail with reference to Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the first flat cable 3 taken along line III-III shown in Fig. 2. Since the configuration of the second covering 42 of the second flat cable 4 is the same as the configuration of the first covering 32 of the first flat cable 3, the present embodiment will be described with a focus on the first covering 32.

[0032] As shown in FIG. 3, the first coating 32 has a pair of insulating layers 321, a pair of shielding layers 322, and a protective layer 323. The first conductors 31 are disposed between the pair of insulating layers 321. The pair of insulating layers 321 sandwich the first conductors 31 in the Z-axis direction. The material of the insulating layer 321 is, for example, a resin. The material of the insulating layer 321 is, for example, a resin having a relatively low relative dielectric constant and a dielectric loss tangent. The material of the insulating layer 321 is, for example, polyethylene or polypropylene. The pair of insulating layers 321 are bonded to each other by, for example, an adhesive. The insulating layer 321 may have a laminated structure formed by, for example, a plurality of layers.

[0033] The pair of shield layers 322 are disposed on the opposite side of the pair of insulating layers 321 to the multiple first conductors 31. The pair of shield layers 322 sandwich the multiple first conductors 31 and the pair of insulating layers 321 in the Z-axis direction. The material of the shield layer 322 is, for example, a metal or the like. The material of the shield layer 322 is, for example, copper or aluminum. The thickness of the shield layer 322 is, for example, 5 μm or more and 20 μm or less. The shield layer 322 is bonded to the insulating layer 321 by, for example, an adhesive.

[0034] The protective layer 323 is provided on the outside of the pair of shield layers 322. When viewed from the Y-axis direction, the protective layer 323 surrounds the plurality of first conductors 31, the pair of insulating layers 321, and the pair of shield layers 322. The protective layer 323 covers the main surfaces of each of the pair of shield layers 322, the side surfaces of each of the pair of shield layers 322, and the side surfaces of each of the pair of insulating layers 321. This suppresses the contact of the shield layer 322 with other metal members. For example, a resin having excellent mechanical strength is used as the material of the protective layer 323. For example, PEs (polyester) or PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is used as the material of the protective layer 323. The protective layer 323 is bonded to the pair of shield layers 322 and the pair of insulating layers 321 by, for example, an adhesive. The configuration of the second coating 42 is the same as the configuration of the first coating 32.

[0035] Next, the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e will be described in detail with reference to FIG. 4 and FIG. 5. The first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e is a hole for adjusting the dielectric constant around the first insertion hole 2c. Since the configuration of the second dielectric constant adjustment hole 2f is the same as that of the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e, the present embodiment will be described focusing on the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e. As shown in FIG. 4 and FIG. 5, the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e is located around the first insertion hole 2c. When viewed from the Y-axis direction (the direction perpendicular to the tip surface 2a of the ferrule 2), the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e extends along the outer edge of the first insertion hole 2c and surrounds the first insertion hole 2c. When viewed from the Y-axis direction, the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e has, for example, a circular ring shape.

[0036] The first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e includes a first hole 2m and a second hole 2n. When viewed from the Y-axis direction, the first insertion hole 2c is located between the first hole 2m and the second hole 2n. When viewed from the Y-axis direction, each of the first hole 2m and the second hole 2n has a semicircular ring shape. Each of the first hole 2m and the second hole 2n penetrates the ferrule 2 in the Y-axis direction and is connected to the first space 2g.

[0037] In this embodiment, the inside of the first dielectric constant adjusting hole 2e is filled with air. The relative dielectric constant of the material constituting the ferrule 2 is greater than the relative dielectric constant of the material constituting the first coating 32. Therefore, when the first dielectric constant adjusting hole 2e is not formed in the ferrule 2, the relative dielectric constant of the periphery of the tip region 31b of the first conductor 31 is greater than the relative dielectric constant of the periphery of the coating region 31c of the first conductor 31.

[0038] In this embodiment, the first dielectric constant adjusting hole 2e filled with air is formed around the first insertion hole 2c, so that the relative dielectric constant around the first insertion hole 2c is smaller than that in the case where the first dielectric constant adjusting hole 2e is not formed around the first insertion hole 2c. The difference between the relative dielectric constant around the tip region 31b of the first conductor 31 and the relative dielectric constant around the covering region 31c of the first conductor 31 is, for example, 0.3 or less.

[0039] The "periphery of the insertion hole" refers to a predetermined region of the ferrule where a change in the dielectric constant may affect the communication performance of the conductor. For example, if a region of the ferrule away from the insertion hole has a change in the dielectric constant of the region that affects the communication performance of the conductor (e.g., the communication performance of the conductor decreases), the region is included in the "periphery of the insertion hole". For example, if a region of the ferrule away from the insertion hole has a change in the dielectric constant of the region that does not affect the communication performance of the conductor, the region is not included in the "periphery of the insertion hole". In this embodiment, the periphery of the first insertion hole 2c is the region from the first insertion hole 2c to the upper or lower surface of the ferrule 2 when viewed from the Y-axis direction.

[0040] When the tip region 31b of the first conductor 31 from which the first coating 32 has been removed is inserted into the first insertion hole 2c, a discontinuous point in the dielectric constant of the dielectric around the first conductor 31 occurs at this portion. This causes reflection of the electric signal propagated by the first flat cable 3, which may increase the loss of the electric signal, or may cause crosstalk to worsen due to resonance, or cause noise emission. In this embodiment, the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e is formed in the ferrule 2, so that the unevenness of the dielectric constant distribution around the first conductor 31 is alleviated, thereby suppressing the above-mentioned problem. In addition, for example, in a configuration in which the upper surface portions of multiple conductors are exposed at the tip portion of the cable and the wiring portion provided in the housing contacts the upper surface portions of these conductors from above, thereby electrically connecting the wiring and the conductor, a part of the signal propagating through the conductor may branch off at the connection point between the upper surface portion of the conductor and the wiring portion and propagate to the end surface of the conductor. In this case, the transmission loss may increase due to the influence of the signal reflection at the end surface of the conductor. In this embodiment, the tip surface 31a of the first conductor 31 is exposed from the tip surface 2a of the ferrule 2. This allows the tip surface 31a of the first conductor 31 to be electrically connected to the mating connector, and stubs are suppressed compared to when the first conductor 31 is electrically connected to the mating connector via a conductor electrically connected to the side surface of the tip region 31b. Therefore, both the deterioration of communication performance caused by impedance mismatch and the deterioration of communication performance caused by the stub phenomenon are suppressed. Therefore, the cable with electrical connector 1 can suppress the deterioration of communication performance.

[0041] The cable with electric connector 1 includes a first flat cable 3 and a second flat cable 4 .

[0042] When viewed from the Y-axis direction, the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e extends along the outer edge of the first insertion hole 2c. This allows the dielectric constant around the first insertion hole 2c to be appropriately adjusted. Here, "along the outer edge" includes not only a configuration in which the insertion hole is sandwiched between semicircular arc-shaped holes (the insertion hole is surrounded by approximately arc-shaped holes), but also a configuration in which elliptical or linear holes are opened above, below, left, and right of the insertion hole.

[0043] All of the above effects are similarly achieved by the second conductor 41 of the second flat cable 4. [Variations] FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of a cable with an electric connector according to a first modified example. As shown in FIG. 6, the cable with an electric connector 1 may further include a dielectric constant adjuster 5. The dielectric constant adjuster 5 is disposed inside the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e. In this embodiment, the dielectric constant adjuster 5 is filled in each of the first hole 2m and the second hole 2n. The relative dielectric constant of the dielectric constant adjuster 5 is, for example, about 1 to 2.5. The dielectric constant adjuster 5 is, for example, bleaching powder or zinc oxide. In this case, the degree of freedom in adjusting the dielectric constant around the first insertion hole 2c is improved. The dielectric constant adjuster 5 may also be disposed in the second dielectric constant adjustment hole 2f, similar to the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e.

[0044] FIG. 7 is a cross-sectional view of a cable with an electric connector according to a second modified example. As shown in FIG. 7, the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e may be inclined so as to approach the first insertion hole 2c from the front end face 2a of the ferrule 2 toward the rear end face 2b (see FIG. 2). The width (inner diameter) of the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e may be gradually decreased from the front end face 2a toward the rear end face 2b. In other words, the inner diameter of the first hole 2m and the inner diameter of the second hole 2n may be gradually decreased from the front end face 2a toward the rear end face 2b. The first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e may be in the shape of a truncated cone having an axis parallel to the Y-axis direction. In this case, the effect of ensuring discontinuity of the dielectric constant distribution around the boundary between the front end region 31b of the first conductor 31 and the covering region 31c of the first conductor 31 is large. Similar to the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e, the second dielectric constant adjustment hole 2f may also be inclined so as to approach the second insertion hole 2d from the front end face 2a toward the rear end face 2b of the ferrule 2.

[0045] FIG. 8 is a cross-sectional view of a cable with an electric connector according to a third modified example. As shown in FIG. 8, the first flat cable 3 may be bent inside the ferrule 2. Specifically, the first space 2g of the ferrule 2 opens to a side surface 2s intersecting the Z-axis direction (orthogonal in FIG. 8). The first space 2g includes a region extending along the Y-axis direction and a region extending along the Z-axis direction. That is, the first space 2g is curved. The covering region 31c of the first flat cable 3 is disposed in the first space 2g in a state bent, for example, by 90 degrees. In this case, the degree of freedom in disposing the cable with an electric connector 1 is improved. The second flat cable 4 may also be bent inside the ferrule 2 like the first flat cable 3. The second space 2h may also open to the side surface 2s like the first space 2g.

[0046] The cable with electric connector 1 may include, for example, only the first flat cable 3 out of the first flat cable 3 and the second flat cable 4. In this case, the ferrule 2 may not include the second insertion hole 2d and the second dielectric constant adjustment hole 2f. The cable with electric connector 1 may include three or more flat cables.

[0047] The first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e may not be formed around the first insertion hole 2c corresponding to the first conductor 31 functioning as a ground line among the multiple first conductors 31 of the first flat cable 3. Similarly, the second dielectric constant adjustment hole 2f may not be formed around the second insertion hole 2d corresponding to the second conductor 41 functioning as a ground line among the multiple second conductors 41 of the second flat cable 4. When one first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e is formed around one first insertion hole 2c and one second dielectric constant adjustment hole 2f is formed around one second insertion hole 2d as in the cable with electric connector 1 according to the embodiment, the ferrule 2 can be shared regardless of the arrangement of the conductors functioning as signal lines and the conductors functioning as ground lines among the multiple first conductors 31 and the multiple second conductors 41.

[0048] The first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e may not include the first hole 2m or the second hole 2n. The first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e may not be connected to the first space 2g. The position and shape of the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e are not particularly limited. The first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e may have, for example, a rectangular, circular or elliptical shape in a cross section along the XZ plane (see FIG. 4). The position and shape of the second dielectric constant adjustment hole 2f are also not particularly limited, like the first dielectric constant adjustment hole 2e.

[0049] The first covering 32 of the first flat cable 3 or the second covering 42 of the second flat cable 4 may be integrally formed by extrusion molding using a resin, for example.

[0050] The first coating 32 may be formed of a pair of resin sheets sandwiching the multiple first conductors 31. The pair of resin sheets may be bonded to each other. In this case, the intervals between the multiple first conductors 31 tend to be uniform in any cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of each of the first conductors 31. The second coating 42, like the first coating 32, may also be formed of a pair of resin sheets sandwiching the multiple second conductors 41. [Explanation of symbols]
