Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a weather strip for an automobile that is attached to the periphery of a door opening on the side of a vehicle body and elastically contacts the periphery of the door to seal between the interior and exterior of the vehicle. [Background technology]
[0002] A known example of this type of conventional weather strip for an automobile (hereinafter simply referred to as a weather strip) for a door opening is that described in Patent Document 1 below.
[0003] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an automobile to which the present invention and a conventional automobile weatherstrip are applied, FIG. 8 is a cross-sectional view taken along line AA in FIG. 1 showing the conventional automobile weatherstrip with the door open, and FIG. 9 is a cross-sectional view taken along line AA in FIG. 1 showing the conventional automobile weatherstrip with the door closed.
[0004] 1 and 8, the conventional weatherstrip 1 described in this publication is attached to a flange portion 05 made by overlapping two metal panels 04a, 04b formed along the periphery of a door opening 03 of, for example, a front door 02 of the body of an automobile 01. A weatherstrip 1' of the same structure is also provided on the periphery of a door opening 03' of a rear door 02'.
[0005] As shown in Figures 8 and 9, this weatherstrip 1 has a mounting base 2 which is an inverted U-shaped welt portion that is inserted and fitted into the tip of the flange portion 05 and has an interior side wall 3, an exterior side wall 4, and connecting walls 5 that connect both side walls 3, 4, a hollow seal portion 6 made of sponge rubber which is integrally formed on the outer surface of the exterior side wall 4 of the mounting base 2 and with which a door panel 06 on the peripheral edge of the front door 02 elastically contacts when the front door 02 is closed, and a cloth member 7 which covers the outer surface of the mounting base 2 and is colored the same color as the interior color of the vehicle.
[0006] The mounting base 2 has two retaining lips 3a, 4a integrally formed on the inner surface of the vehicle interior side wall 3 and the inner surface of the vehicle exterior side wall 4, which abut on both the interior and exterior side surfaces of the flange portion 05, and is held in a clamped state by each of these retaining lips 3a, 4a.
[0007] The hollow seal portion 6 is formed in a substantially semicircular cross section, with one end 6a being joined to an outer end surface of the vehicle exterior side wall 4 near the connecting wall 5, and the other end 6b being joined to an outer end surface of the vehicle exterior side wall 4 near the opening of the mounting base 2. As shown in Fig. 9, when the front door 02 is closed, the hollow seal portion 6 is elastically contacted while being compressed and deformed by the pressing force of the door panel 06 to seal between the door opening 03 and the door panel 06.
[0008] The cloth member 7 has one widthwise side portion 7a extending to near one end portion 6a of the hollow seal portion 6 of the exterior side wall 4, while the other widthwise side portion 7b extending to the end portion near the opening of the interior side wall 3.
[0009] One end 6a of the hollow seal portion 6 is provided with a lip portion 8 that covers one side portion 7a of the cloth member 7. This lip portion 8 is formed from the same sponge rubber material as the hollow seal portion 6, and extends from a base end 8a on the one end 6a side of the hollow seal portion 6 toward the connecting wall 5, with the underside of a tip end 8b being disposed in contact with the outer surface of the one side portion 7a of the cloth member 7. In this way, by covering the one side portion 7a of the cloth member 7 with the lip portion 8, peeling of the one side portion 7a is prevented and the appearance is improved. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]
[0010] [Patent Document 1] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 7-96801 (see FIG. 1) Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0011] However, in the conventional automotive weather strip, as mentioned above, the lip portion 8 is formed from a soft sponge rubber material, and the underside of the tip portion 8b simply abuts against the upper surface of one side portion 7a of the fabric member 7. For this reason, as shown in Fig. 9, when the hollow seal portion 6 is pressed against the door panel 06 and compressed when the front door 02 is closed, the lip portion 8 is likely to be displaced in the vertical direction in the figure due to the compressive deformation, which may cause the continuity of the fabric member 7 to be lost. In addition, the lip portion 8 may be likely to bend and deform outward (in the direction of the outlined arrow in Fig. 9) with the base end portion 8a as a fulcrum due to the compressive deformation of the hollow seal portion 6, resulting in an opening. This may cause a gap S to be generated between the underside of the tip portion 8b and the outer surface of one side portion 7a of the fabric member 7, which may allow dust and the like to easily get into the interior through this gap S, and the one side portion 7a of the fabric member 7 may be exposed, which may cause a deterioration in appearance and lead to a deterioration in the appearance quality.
[0012] The present invention was devised in consideration of the technical problems associated with the conventional automotive weatherstrips described above, and aims to provide an automotive weatherstrip in which the tip of a hard protrusion presses one side of the cloth material from an approximately vertical direction in line contact, so that even if the hollow seal portion is compressed and deformed when the door is closed, the tip of the protrusion can maintain a stable and reliable pressing state against one side of the cloth material. [Means for solving the problem]
[0013] The invention described in claim 1 of the present application is an automobile weather strip comprising: a mounting base having a U-shaped cross section that is attached to a flange portion formed along the edge of a door opening of a vehicle body; a hollow seal portion having both ends integrally joined to the outer surface of the mounting base and with which the door panel elastically contacts when the door is closed; and a cloth member that covers at least the outer surface of the mounting base and has one side portion in the width direction disposed in the vicinity of a portion of the mounting base to which one end of the hollow seal portion is joined, A protrusion is provided on the outer surface of one end of the hollow seal portion to press against the outer surface of one side of the cloth member in a line contact state, and the one end of the hollow seal portion and the protrusion are formed from a solid material such as rubber or synthetic resin. Effect of the Invention
[0014] According to the invention described in claim 1, even if the hollow seal portion is compressed and deformed when the door is closed, the tip of the protrusion can maintain a stable and reliable pressing state against one side of the fabric member. As a result, the positional deviation of the protrusion and the occurrence of an opening are suppressed, preventing the intrusion of dust and the like, and improving the appearance quality with a good appearance. [0016] Hereinafter, an embodiment of an automotive weather strip according to the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. As with the conventional weather strip described above, this weather strip is applied to be attached to the periphery of the door openings of the front and rear doors of a vehicle body, but for the sake of convenience, the following description will be directed to a weather strip attached to the periphery of the door opening 03 of the front door 02.
[0017] FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along line AA in FIG. 1, showing an embodiment of an automotive weather strip according to the present invention when the door is open, FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along line AA in FIG. 1, showing the automotive weather strip of this embodiment when the door is closed, and FIG. 4 is an enlarged view of part B in FIG. 2.
[0018] As described above, the weather strip 21 is attached to the flange portion 05 formed along the periphery of the door opening 03 of the front door 02 of the automobile 01 shown in Fig. 1. This flange portion 05 is formed by overlapping, for example, three metal panels 04a to 04c and joining them intermittently in the longitudinal direction by spot welding or the like. As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the weather strip 21 of this embodiment has an inverted U-shaped mounting base 22 that fits into the flange portion 05 and has an interior side wall retaining lip 4a, an exterior side wall 24, and a connecting wall 25 that connects both side wall retaining lips 4a, 24, and a hollow seal portion 26 that is integrally formed on the outer surface of the exterior side wall 24 of the mounting base 22 and with which a door panel 06 provided on the peripheral portion of the front door 02 elastically contacts when the front door 02 is closed, for example.
[0019] The mounting base 22 is integrally formed from a solid material such as hard rubber or hard resin to ensure rigidity, and has a U-shaped cross-sectional metal core 22a embedded therein. The mounting base 22 has two upper and lower stages of retaining lips 4aa and 4ab protruding toward the vehicle exterior side wall 24 on the inner surface of the vehicle interior side wall retaining lip 4a, and three protruding portions 24a to 24c protruding toward the vehicle interior side wall 23 integrally formed on the inner surface of the vehicle exterior side wall 24. The vehicle exterior side wall 24 has a retaining lip 24d made of sponge rubber, the tip of which extends toward the vehicle interior side wall 23, integrally formed on the lowest stage in FIG. 2.
[0020] Therefore, when the mounting base 22 is fitted to the flange portion 05, the tip portions of the retaining lips 23a, 23b and the tip portions of the protrusions 24a to 24c and retaining lip 24d elastically contact the interior and exterior sides of the flange portion 05 in a clamping state, thereby holding the mounting base 22 to the flange portion 05.
[0021] A cover lip 27 extending toward the inside of the vehicle is integrally provided on the end of the connecting wall 25 of the mounting base 22 on the vehicle interior side wall 23 side. This cover lip 27 is formed of a solid material like the connecting wall 25, and covers the tip of an interior material 28 such as a door trim or garnish that extends from the vehicle interior toward the vehicle interior side wall 23.
[0022] 2, the hollow seal portion 26 is basically formed integrally from a sponge material and is tapered from both end portions 26a, 26b joined to the outer surface of the exterior side wall 24 to a tip portion 26c. One end portion 26a of the hollow seal portion 26 is joined to the vicinity of the connecting wall 25 of the exterior side wall 24, while the other end portion 26b is joined to the vicinity of the lower end portion of the exterior side wall 24 in FIG.
[0023] The hollow seal portion 26 has a connecting portion 26d connected to an end of a protrusion 35 (described later) provided on the one end portion 26a side. The connecting portion 26d is made of sponge rubber material like the main body of the hollow seal portion 26, and is curved so as to bulge upward in the figure beyond the protrusion 35 in the free state shown in Fig. 2. When the front door 02 is closed and the hollow seal portion 26 is compressed and deformed as shown in Fig. 3, the connecting portion 26d is bent and deformed in a bending direction, and the elastic reaction force presses the protrusion 35 (described later) toward one side portion 34a of the fabric member 34.
[0024] Further, inside the hollow seal portion 26, a linear support wall 31 is provided which divides the hollow seal portion 26 into an interior seal portion 29 on both ends 26a, 26b and an exterior seal portion 30 on the tip end 26c. The support wall 31 is made of sponge rubber, like the main body of the hollow seal portion 26, and in a free state when the front door 02 is opened, as shown in Fig. 2, is formed in a linear, long plate shape across the interior of the hollow seal portion 26 at the interior center position, and extends along the longitudinal direction of the weather strip 21. The support wall 31 is disposed in a manner that divides the hollow seal portion 26 into the interior seal portion 29 on both ends 26a, 26b from approximately the interior center position, and the exterior seal portion 30 on the tip end 26c with which the door panel 06 elastically contacts when the front door 02 is closed.
[0025] Further, a first protrusion 32 is provided integrally on the outer surface of hollow seal portion 26 at a portion where one end in the width direction of support wall 31 is joined, and a second protrusion 33 is provided integrally on the same plane as first protrusion 32 on the tip end 26c side. These first and second protrusions 32, 33 are made of the same sponge rubber material as hollow seal portion 26 and have a substantially triangular cross section, extend parallel to each other along the longitudinal direction of hollow seal portion 26, and have their respective apexes set at the same height.
[0026] As shown in Figure 3, when the front door 02 is closed, the door panel 06 elastically contacts the outer surface of the exterior seal portion 30 on the tip end 26c side, causing the exterior seal portion 30 to undergo compression deformation (crushing deformation), and the first protrusion portion 32 and the second protrusion portion 33 elastically contact together the outer surface of the door panel 06 to provide a double seal.
[0027] 2 and 3, a cloth member 34 is provided to cover the outer surface of the connecting wall 25 of the mounting base 22 and the outer surface of the tip portion 27a of the cover lip 27. The cloth member 34 is continuously disposed along the longitudinal direction of the weatherstrip 21, and is adhered and fixed to the outer surfaces of the connecting wall 25 and the cover lip 27 by an impregnated adhesive. The cloth member 34 is colored the same color as the interior material 28, and one side portion 34a in the width direction is extended to the vicinity of the connecting end portion of the connecting wall 25 with the vehicle-exterior side wall 24, and the other side portion 34b is extended to a position where it is wrapped around the inner surface of the tip portion 27a of the cover lip 27.
[0028] 2 to 4, hollow seal portion 26 is provided with a protrusion 35 integrally formed on the outer surface of one end 26a side thereof, which presses against the outer surface of one side portion 34a of fabric member 34. This protrusion 35 is formed in a substantially triangular cross section, with tip portion 35a, which is the apex, pressing against the outer surface of one side portion 34a of fabric member 34 from a substantially vertical direction. This protrusion 35 and one end 26a of hollow seal portion 26 are formed of a solid material, like exterior side wall 24, and have higher rigidity than the main body of hollow seal portion 26, which is made of sponge rubber material.
[0029] 4, the thickness width W of the protrusion 35 from the inner surface of the hollow seal portion 26 to the tip end 35a is relatively large, and in combination with the solid material, high rigidity is ensured. Also, the one end 26a of the hollow seal portion 26 has a thick base portion for joining with the vehicle exterior side wall 24, so that this portion also has high rigidity.
[0030] Between the protrusion 35 and the one end 26a, there is provided a pressure applying portion 36 that applies a pressing force to the protrusion 35 toward the upper surface of the one side portion 34a of the fabric member 34. That is, as shown in Fig. 4, this pressure applying portion 36 is formed to be thinner than the protrusion 35 and the one end 26a of the hollow seal portion 26, and is bent in a curved shape so as to apply a pressing force to the protrusion 35 in a direction pressing it against the outer surface of the one side portion 34a of the fabric member 34.
[0031] FIG. 5 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of a main portion of the automotive weather strip of this embodiment, showing a state in which adhesive is applied to one side of the fabric member.
[0032] Further, a space 37 is formed inside the protrusion 35 including the pressure applying portion 36 and the one end portion 26a. The space 37 accommodates one side portion 34a of the fabric member 34 therein.
[0033] In addition, this space 37 is designed to conceal the protruding adhesive 38 inside when adhesive 38 for preventing rolling up is applied to the edge of one side portion 34a of the fabric member 34, as shown in Figure 5, for example. [Functions and Effects of the Weather Strip According to the Present Embodiment] The effects of the weather strip 21 according to this embodiment will be described below.
[0034] In the weather strip 21 according to this embodiment, when the front door 02 is open as shown in Fig. 2 and the door panel 06 elastically contacts the vehicle exterior seal portion 30 of the hollow seal portion 26, causing compression deformation (crushing deformation) when the front door 02 is closed as shown in Fig. 3, the first and second protrusions 32, 33 are in elastic contact with the outer surface of the door panel 06. Such a double seal by the first and second protrusions 32, 33 improves the sealing performance of the hollow seal portion 26.
[0035] In addition, when hollow seal portion 26 is compressed and deformed when front door 02 is closed, protrusion 35 is pressed by the elastic reaction force of curved connecting portion 26d, and tip portion 35a presses the outer surface of one side portion 34a of fabric member 34 in a line contact state from a substantially vertical direction, as shown in Fig. 3. Therefore, protrusion 35 can stably and reliably press tip portion 35a against the outer surface of one side portion 34a of fabric member 34 without causing misalignment in the up-down direction or generating a gap due to an opening.
[0036] Furthermore, one end 26a and protrusion 35 of hollow seal portion 26 are formed of a solid material and have high rigidity, so that they can be reliably pressed against one side portion 34a of fabric member 34 with a relatively strong force at all times.
[0037] Furthermore, since the tip portion 35a of the protrusion 35 is always elastically pressed against the outer surface of one side portion 34a of the cloth member 34 by the pressure applying portion 36 regardless of whether the front door 02 is opened or closed, the occurrence of the protrusion 35 opening or the like can be suppressed in any state.
[0038] In particular, when the front door 02 is closed as described above, the protrusion 35 is strongly pressed toward one side 34a of the cloth member 34 in combination with the pressing force of the connecting portion 26d due to the compressive deformation of the hollow seal portion 26, thereby making it possible to further suppress the occurrence of opening of the protrusion 35, etc.
[0039] As described above, in this embodiment, it is possible to sufficiently suppress misalignment of the tip 35a of the protrusion 35 and the occurrence of a gap between the tip 35a and one side 34a of the cloth member 34, thereby preventing the intrusion of debris into the space 37 and improving the appearance quality without compromising the appearance.
[0040] Furthermore, in this embodiment, in addition to the first protrusion 32, the second protrusion 33 is provided on the outer surface of the exterior seal portion 30. Therefore, even if variations occur in the mounting accuracy of the weather strip 21 relative to the flange portion 05 of the door opening edge of the vehicle body or in the assembly accuracy of the vehicle body, when the front door 02 is closed, the first protrusion 32 and the second protrusion 33 are pressed against the outer surface of the door panel 06, providing a double seal and absorbing the variations, thereby ensuring stable sealing performance. Second Embodiment FIG. 6 shows a second embodiment of the weatherstrip 21 according to the present invention, in which a support lip 39 extending in the opposite direction to the protrusion 35 is provided at one end 26a of the hollow seal portion 26. The support lip 39 is formed in a substantially flat cross section, extends along the longitudinal direction of the weatherstrip 21, and has a predetermined width from a fixed end 39a connected to the one end 26a to a lower end 39b which is a free end in the figure. When a force acts on the protrusion 35 in the opening direction in the direction of the outline arrow in the figure, the lower end 39b of the support lip 39 abuts on the outer surface of the vehicle exterior side wall 24 due to a seesaw action with the one end 26a as a fulcrum, and a force acts on the protrusion 35 in the direction of the one side 34a of the fabric member 34 due to this reaction force. As a result, the tip 35a of the protrusion 35 is biased toward the outer surface of the one side 34a of the fabric member 34, which further suppresses the occurrence of unnecessary positional deviation and opening.
[0041] 7, the support lip 39 can be configured such that the lower end 39b is bent into a substantially L-shape in cross section and the tip 39c abuts against the outer surface of the vehicle-exterior side wall 24. With such a configuration, the tip edge of the L-shaped tip 39c of the support lip 39 immediately abuts against the outer surface of the vehicle-exterior side wall 24 in response to a force in the opening direction of the protrusion 35, applying a strong reaction force to the protrusion 35, making it possible to more quickly suppress the occurrence of positional deviation, opening, and the like.
[0042] The present invention is not limited to the configurations of the above-described embodiments, and for example, the cross-sectional shapes of the protrusions 35 and the hollow seal portion 26 can be further modified.
[0043] As an example of the weather strip for an automobile based on the embodiment described above, there is one having the following configuration.
[0044] One aspect of this is an automotive weather strip comprising a mounting base with a U-shaped cross section that is attached to a flange portion formed along the edge of the door opening of the vehicle body, a hollow seal portion whose both ends are integrally joined to the outer surface of the mounting base and with which the door panel elastically contacts when the door is closed, and a cloth member that covers at least the outer surface of the mounting base and has one side in the width direction positioned near the portion of the mounting base where one end of the hollow seal portion is joined, wherein a protrusion is provided on the outer surface of one end of the hollow seal portion for pressing against the outer surface of one side of the cloth member in line contact, and one end of the hollow seal portion and the protrusion are formed from a solid material of rubber or synthetic resin.
[0045] According to this aspect of the invention, the tip of the protrusion presses one side of the cloth material in a line contact state, so that when the door is closed and the peripheral edge of the door elastically contacts the hollow seal portion, causing the hollow seal to be crushed and deformed, the protrusion follows suit without shifting position or opening up, and the protrusion can achieve a stable and reliable abutment state on one side of the cloth material.
[0046] In particular, because one end of the hollow seal and the protrusion are made of a solid material and have high rigidity, they can be reliably pressed against one side of the fabric member with a relatively strong force at all times, which makes it possible to prevent the protrusion from opening unnecessarily even if the hollow seal is compressed and deformed.
[0047] Therefore, it is possible to sufficiently prevent a gap from being generated between the tip of the protrusion and one side of the fabric member, thereby improving the appearance quality without impairing the appearance.
[0048] More preferably, the protrusion is formed in an approximately triangular cross section, with its apex tip abutting the outer surface of one side of the cloth member in a line contact state, and a pressure applying portion is provided at the connection point between one end of the hollow seal portion and the protrusion for applying a pressing force to the protrusion in the direction of the upper surface of one side of the cloth member.
[0049] According to this aspect of the invention, since a pressing force is applied to the tip of the protrusion in the direction of the upper surface of the one side of the fabric member by the pressure applying portion, when the door is closed, this, together with the pressing force of the joint portion due to the compressive deformation of the hollow seal portion, allows the protrusion to be kept pressed in a line contact state against the upper surface of the one side of the fabric member. This makes it possible to prevent the occurrence of a gap between the tip of the protrusion and the one side of the fabric member due to the opening of the protrusion.
[0050] More preferably, a space is formed inside the protrusion including one end of the hollow seal portion and the pressure applying portion. According to this aspect of the invention, the edge of one side of the cloth member can be accommodated within the space, and, for example, if adhesive is applied to the edge of one side of the cloth member to prevent it from rolling up, it becomes possible to conceal this adhesive.
[0051] More preferably, a support lip is provided on the outer surface of one end of the hollow seal portion opposite the protrusion, the tip of which abuts against the outer surface of the vehicle-exterior side wall of the mounting base, and the support lip supports the protrusion with a force in the opposite direction to the force in the opening direction of the protrusion.
[0052] According to this aspect of the invention, when a force is applied to the protrusion in the opening direction as the hollow seal portion is compressed and deformed when the door is closed, the reaction force presses the tip of the support lip against the outer surface of the exterior side wall of the vehicle, and a seesaw action supports the protrusion with a force in the opposite direction to the force in the opening direction, thereby more reliably preventing the protrusion from opening.
