DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0017] Hereinafter, a branch connector 1 and a main connector 2 according to an embodiment of the present invention, and a connector unit 100 including them will be described with reference to the drawings. For ease of understanding, mutually orthogonal XYZ coordinates are set and referred to as appropriate. The +X and -X directions of the XYZ coordinates are the same as the first direction D1 in which the electric wire E is drawn out from the cover 80 of the main connector 2, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction are directions perpendicular to the Z-axis direction. The +Z direction is the same as the direction in which the electric wire 20 is drawn out from the connector housing 10 of the branch connector 1.

[0018] The connector unit 100 is used, for example, to connect a branch electric wire 20 that branches off from an electric wire E for supplying power or a signal to an actuator and supplies power or a signal to another device connected to the electric wire E to the electric wire E. However, the connector unit 100 is not limited to this, and may be used for something other than an actuator. In this embodiment, the connector unit 100 includes a branch connector 1 and a main connector 2 that are connected to each other, and a rail 3.

[0019] The branch connector 1 (connector) includes a connector housing 10, electric wires 20, a sealing member 30, a resin molded portion 40, and a waterproof cover 50, as shown in FIG.

[0020] The connector housing 10 is formed in a shape having a pair of side surfaces 10a parallel to the YZ plane and a pair of side surfaces 10b parallel to the XZ plane. The connector housing 10 is made of, for example, an insulating material, specifically, for example, a resin. As shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the connector housing 10 has a cavity 11 formed therein in which one end 20a of the electric wire 20 is accommodated. For example, the cavity 11 accommodates a terminal C1 attached to the one end 20a of the electric wire 20 and is held by the connector housing 10. The terminal C1 is made of a conductive material. Examples of the conductive material include copper and copper alloy. The terminal C1 is, for example, a female terminal having a tubular portion into which a mating male terminal is inserted. However, the present invention is not limited to this. The terminal C1 may be a male terminal.

[0021] In this embodiment, five cavities 11 are formed corresponding to the number of core wires 22a, 22b of the electric wire 20. The cavity 11 has an opening 11a from which the other end 20b of the electric wire 20 extends outward. The opening 11a is formed so as to open in the +Z direction.

[0022] As shown in FIG. 6, the connector housing 10 is formed with an engaging protrusion 12 protruding from the side surface 10b.

[0023] As shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the electric wire 20 is a cable in which five core wires 22a, 22b, each having a conductor and an insulator 22c, are covered by a sheath 21 so as to be bundled together. The electric wire 20 is a branch electric wire branched from an electric wire E, which is a main electric wire. The sheath 21 is a protective layer for the core wires 22a, 22b against various environmental conditions (water, oil, chemicals, etc.) and external forces, and is made of an insulating material. In addition, the gap between the sheath 21 and the core wires 22a, 22b is filled with an intermediate material to maintain the outer shape of the electric wire 20. The electric wire 20 is used to supply power or a signal to an actuator. Specifically, for example, in this embodiment, the two core wires 22a with a large diameter among the five core wires 22a, 22b are, for example, power lines that transmit power to the actuator. Of the five core wires 22a, 22b, the three core wires 22b having a small diameter are, for example, signal lines for electrically transmitting signals to an actuator.

[0024] 3 and 5, the sealing member 30 is a case-like part that is attached to the side surfaces 10a, 10b of the connector housing 10 and the sheath 21 that covers the electric wire 20. The end of the sealing member 30 on the +Z side is formed in a tapered shape that becomes thinner in the +Z direction. This sealing member 30 covers the opening 11a of the cavity 11 and the core wire of the electric wire 20. In addition, the sealing member 30 surrounds the opening 11a and the core wire of the electric wire 20 in a non-contact state.

[0025] 6, an engagement recess 31 that engages with the engagement protrusion 12 of the connector housing 10 is formed in the side wall portion of the sealing member 30. In the present embodiment, the engagement recess 31 is formed as a through hole that penetrates the side wall portion of the sealing member 30. However, this is not limited thereto. The engagement recess 31 may be formed in a shape other than a through hole as long as it is formed in a shape that allows the engagement protrusion 12 to engage with it. For example, the engagement recess 31 may be formed as a non-through hole that does not penetrate the side wall portion of the sealing member 30.

[0026] The resin molded part 40 is a part that covers the outer surface of the sealing member 30, as shown in Fig. 3 and Fig. 5. This resin molded part 40 is formed by resin molding using a plurality of dies K1 and K2, as shown in Fig. 7. The number of dies K1 and K2 used in the resin molding is not limited to the example shown in this embodiment, and the number of dies K1 and K2 other than that shown in this embodiment may be used. As shown in Fig. 3 and Fig. 5, this resin molded part 40 is molded from the side surfaces 10a and 10b of the connector housing 10 beyond the position P1 where the sealing member 30 is attached to the sheath 21. In addition, the end of the resin molded part 40 on the +Z side is formed into a tapered shape in which the tip becomes thinner in the +Z direction.

[0027] A waterproof cover attachment portion 41 is provided near the tip of the tapered shape of the resin molded portion 40. The waterproof cover attachment portion 41 is formed in the shape of a regular square prism protruding in the +Z direction.

[0028] The waterproof cover 50 is a part in which the sheath 21 of the electric wire 20 is disposed and which prevents water from entering the inside of the cavity 11. The waterproof cover 50 prevents water from entering the inside of the cavity 11, thereby preventing water from entering the terminal C1 housed in the cavity 11. The waterproof cover 50 is made of an elastic material. For example, the waterproof cover 50 is made of rubber. The waterproof cover 50 is assembled and fixed to the waterproof cover mounting portion 41 of the resin molded portion 40 via an O-ring 51. The waterproof cover 50 has a hole 52 formed therein, which penetrates in the Z-axis direction. The sheath 21 is disposed in the hole 52 of the waterproof cover 50.

[0029] As shown in Figs. 5 and 8, the main connector 2 (mating connector) includes an electric wire E, a connector body 60, a seal 70, and a cover 80 (mating waterproof cover).

[0030] The electric wire E is a flat cable in which a plurality of conductive wires are arranged in parallel in the Y-axis direction and connected by an electric wire connection part E-1. The electric wire E is covered with a sheath made of an insulating material. In this embodiment, the electric wire E is used to supply power or a signal to an actuator, similar to the electric wire 20.

[0031] Moreover, a convex portion E-2 is provided at one end (the end on the +Y side) of the left and right ends (the end on the +Y side and the end on the -Y side) of the electric wire E, which is a flat cable. The convex portion E-2 extends in the X-axis direction. The convex portion E-2 is provided only at one end (the end on the +Y side) of the left and right ends (the end on the +Y side and the end on the -Y side) of the electric wire E, and is not provided at the other end (the end on the -Y side). As a result, the convex portion E-2 is used to prevent the electric wire E, which is a flat cable, from being assembled incorrectly with the front and back.

[0032] The connector body 60 is a part in which a part of the electric wire E is disposed, and from both ends of which the electric wire E is drawn in a first direction D1. The connector body 60 is made of, for example, an insulating material. As shown in FIG. 5, the connector body 60 has an intermediate contactor 61, a protruding contactor 62, and a contactor connecting portion 63.

[0033] The intermediate contactor 61 is electrically connected to the electric wire E by pressing the electric wire E against the intermediate contactor 61. In this embodiment, the intermediate contactor 61 is a Y-shaped terminal with a tip that protrudes in a Y shape. By pressing the intermediate contactor 61 against the electric wire E from the +Z side (upper side), the tip of the Y shape bites into the electric wire connection portion E-1 of the electric wire E, and as a result, the intermediate contactor 61 is electrically connected to the conductive line of the electric wire E.

[0034] The protruding contactor 62 protrudes in the +Z direction, which is a direction intersecting the first direction D1 in which the electric wire E arranged in the connector body 60 extends. The protruding portion of the protruding contactor 62 protruding in the +Z direction protrudes from the connector body 60. This protruding contactor 62 is configured as a male terminal, and is inserted into a cylindrical portion of the terminal C1 on the connector housing 10 side, which is a female terminal.

[0035] The contactor connection portion 63 is a portion that connects the intermediate contactor 61 and the protruding contactor 62 .

[0036] The intermediate contactor 61, the protruding contactor 62, and the contactor connecting portion 63 are integrally formed, for example, by bending a single conductive plate formed by press working.

[0037] As shown in FIGS. 8 and 9A, connector body 60 has two parts, a mounting housing 60-1 and a pressure-connecting housing 60-2, which can be separated in a second direction D2 (Z-axis direction) perpendicular to a first direction D1 (X-axis direction).

[0038] The mounting housing 60-1 is a case on which the electric wire E is placed. The mounting housing 60-1 is formed in a shape capable of holding the placed electric wire E. Specifically, the mounting housing 60-1 is formed with a claw portion 60-1a. The claw portion 60-1a locks the electric wire E, whereby the electric wire E is held by the mounting housing 60-1.

[0039] The insulation displacement housing 60-2 is a case that houses the intermediate contactor 61, the protruding contactor 62, and the contactor connection portion 63 together with the mounting housing 60-1. The insulation displacement housing 60-2 supports the intermediate contactor 61 and pressure-connects the intermediate contactor 61 to the electric wire E mounted on the mounting housing 60-1. The insulation displacement housing 60-2 has an erected wall 60-2a that surrounds the periphery of the protruding contactor 62.

[0040] The seal 70 is a part that covers the connector body 60 and at least a portion of the electric wires E. The seal 70 is made of, for example, an insulating material. The seal 70 is made of, for example, an elastic material. The seal 70 is made of, for example, a rubbery resin. The seal 70 is composed of two separate parts 70A, 70B that can be separated in the second direction (Z-axis direction). The seal 70 has a first electric wire holding portion 71.

[0041] The first wire holding portion 71 holds both sides of the wire E pulled out from the connector body 60 in the first direction D1. The first wire holding portion 71 is formed to protrude in both the +X direction and the -X direction. The first wire holding portion 71 is formed in a shape that corresponds to the outer shape of the wire E, which is a flat cable, and is thus formed in a shape that can hold the wire E. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 9B, the first wire holding portion 71 is formed in a shape that has a connection portion arrangement portion 71a where the wire connection portion E-1 of the wire E is arranged, and a convex portion arrangement portion 71b where the convex portion E-2 is arranged.

[0042] 8 and 9A, a seal-side protrusion 72 (first protrusion) is formed on the seal 70. The seal-side protrusion 72 surrounds the outer periphery of the standing wall 60-2a of the pressure-connected housing 60-2.

[0043] The cover 80 is a part that covers the seal 70. The cover 80 is made of, for example, an insulating material. The cover 80 is also composed of two separate parts 80A and 80B that can be separated in the second direction (Z-axis direction). The cover 80 has a second wire holding portion 81 and a wire pressing portion 82.

[0044] The second wire holding portion 81 holds both sides of the wire E pulled out from the connector body 60 in the first direction D1 together with the first wire holding portion 71 of the seal 70. The second wire holding portion 81 is formed to protrude in both the +X direction and the -X direction. The second wire holding portion 81 is formed in a shape capable of holding the wire E, which is a flat cable, together with the first wire holding portion 71. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 9B, the second wire holding portion 81 is formed in a shape having a connection portion arranging portion 81a in which the wire connection portion E-1 of the wire E is arranged via the connection portion arranging portion 71a, and a convex portion arranging portion 81b in which the convex portion E-2 is arranged via the convex portion arranging portion 71b.

[0045] 8 and 9A, the wire pressing portion 82 is provided at the tip of the second wire holding portion 81. The wire pressing portion 82 is formed to protrude downward (-Z direction) or upward (+Z direction) from the tip of the second wire holding portion 81. The wire pressing portion 82 covers the tip of the first wire holding portion 71 of the seal 70, and presses the multiple conductive wires of the wire E, which is a flat cable, and the wire connection portion E-1.

[0046] Further, a cover side protrusion 83 (second protrusion) is formed on the cover 80. The cover side protrusion 83 surrounds the seal side protrusion 72. A groove for an O-ring is formed on the cover side protrusion 83. An O-ring 84 is fitted in the O-ring groove.

[0047] As shown in Fig. 6 and Fig. 8, the rail 3 is a base for fixing the main connector 2 to an arbitrary position in the first direction D1. The rail 3 has a rail body 3a, a rail fixing lever 3b, and a pair of fixing members 3c, 3d. The main connector 2 is fixed to the rail 3 by attaching the rail fixing lever 3b to the split part 80B and sandwiching the rail body 3a between a claw part (not shown) of the split part 80B and the rail fixing lever 3b. In addition, the main connector 2 can be fixed to an arbitrary installation surface other than the rail 3 by attaching the fixing members 3c, 3d, which have holes for fasteners such as bolts, to the split part 80B.

[0048] The connector unit 100 of the above-described embodiment can be used in a manufacturing apparatus 300 including an actuator 400, as shown in FIG. 10. The manufacturing apparatus 300 includes a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) 310 that controls the actuator 400, a gateway 320 that converts data transmitted from the PLC 310 into a control signal that controls the actuator 400, a power supply 330 that drives the actuator 400, and the actuator 400. The control signal output from the gateway 320 is transmitted to the junction connector 350 via a signal cable 340. In addition, the power output from the power supply 330 is output to the junction connector 350 via a power cable 360. One end of the electric wire E described above is connected to the junction connector 350. A main connector 2 is connected to the middle of the electric wire E, and a control signal and power are supplied to each actuator 400 via a branch connector 1. A terminal 500 is connected to the other end of the electric wire E. In this way, it is possible to supply control signals and power to each actuator 400 along the middle of the electric wire E. Note that it is also possible to split the end of the electric wire E and directly connect the signal line portion to the gateway 320 and the power line portion to the power source 330 without using the junction connector 350. Also, the total length of the wiring can be made shorter than when wiring is connected to each actuator 400.

[0049] 11, the manufacturing apparatus 300 may include an expansion unit 370 connected to the gateway 320. In this case, the power output from the power source 330 is output to the gateway 320. One end of the electric wire E described above is connected to the expansion unit 370. Note that, without using the expansion unit 370, the end of the electric wire E may be split and the signal line portion may be directly connected to the gateway 320 and the power line portion may be directly connected to the power source 330. In this way, the wiring can be simplified.

[0050] As described above, the branch connector 1 according to the present embodiment includes the sealing member 30 that covers the opening 11a of the connector housing 10 and the core wires 22a, 22b of the electric wire 20, as shown in Fig. 5. This makes it possible to prevent resin from flowing into the internal space 32 of the sealing member 30 when the resin molded portion 40 is resin molded, as shown in Fig. 7. This makes it possible to prevent resin from flowing into the opening 11a of the connector housing 10 and the vicinity of the core wires 22a, 22b of the electric wire 20.

[0051] 12, when the sealing member 30 is not provided, there is a risk that the resin will flow into the opening 11a of the connector housing 10 or near the cores 22a, 22b of the electric wire 20 when the resin molded portion 40 is resin molded. This will cause the thickness t1 of the resin molded portion 40 to become non-uniform, and will make it easier for sinks 42 and voids 43 to occur in the resin molded portion 40.

[0052] However, as shown in FIG. 5 and FIG. 8, the branch connector 1 according to the present embodiment includes the sealing member 30, and therefore, when the resin molded portion 40 is resin molded, the resin can be prevented from flowing into the internal space 32 of the sealing member 30. This makes it possible to prevent the resin from flowing into the opening 11a of the connector housing 10 and the vicinity of the core wires 22a and 22b of the electric wire 20. As a result, the branch connector 1 according to the present embodiment can prevent the thickness t1 of the resin molded portion 40 from becoming uneven. Furthermore, the branch connector 1 according to the present embodiment can prevent the occurrence of the shrinkage 42 and the void 43 in the resin molded portion 40. The connector housing 10 according to the present embodiment may be a dedicated one, but even if it is a commercially available connector housing, it is possible to waterproof it by preparing the sealing member 30, the molds K1 and K2, and the waterproof cover 50 according to the shape of the connector housing.

[0053] 5, in branch connector 1 according to the present embodiment, sealing member 30 surrounds opening 11a and core wires 22a, 22b covered by sheath 21 of electric wire 20 without contacting each other. This makes it possible in branch connector 1 according to the present embodiment to prevent resin for forming resin molded portion 40 from entering cavity 11 during resin molding. As a result, it is possible to prevent resin for forming resin molded portion 40 from entering the periphery of terminal C1.

[0054] Although the embodiment of the present invention has been described above, the present invention is not limited to the above embodiment.

[0055] For example, in the present embodiment, as shown in Fig. 6, the connector housing 10 is formed with an engaging protrusion 12, and the sealing member 30 is formed with an engaging recess 31 that engages with the engaging protrusion 12. However, this is not limited to this. The connector housing 10 may be formed with an engaging recess, and the sealing member 30 may be formed with an engaging protrusion that engages with the engaging recess.

[0056] The present invention allows various embodiments and modifications without departing from the broad spirit and scope of the present invention. The above-described embodiments are for the purpose of explaining the present invention and do not limit the scope of the present invention. [Explanation of symbols]
