[0004] However, in the conventional technology, since all the log data generated by the electronic device is stored outside the electronic device, there is a problem that the storage capacity of the external storage destination of the electronic device needs to be sufficiently large.

[0005] Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide an electronic device and a log extraction program capable of extracting log data that is likely to be important from the log data generated by the electronic device.

Means for Solving the Problems

[0006] The electronic device of the present invention is an electronic device capable of storing a plurality of log data, and includes a log extraction unit that extracts at least a part of the log data from the log data stored in the electronic device, and the log extraction unit extracts all the log data in a specific continuous time range including the log data including a specific keyword.

[0007] With this configuration, the electronic device of the present invention extracts all the log data within a specific continuous time range that includes the log data containing specific keywords. Therefore, it is possible to extract log data that is likely to be important from the log data generated by the electronic device.

[0008] In the electronic device of the present invention, the electronic device can store a plurality of the log data by dividing them into groups in chronological order, and the range may be a specific number of chronologically continuous groups that include the group containing the keyword.

[0009] With this configuration, the electronic device of the present invention extracts all the log data of a specific number of chronologically continuous groups that include the group containing the specific keyword. Therefore, it is possible to extract log data in units of groups.

[0010] In the electronic device of the present invention, the log extraction unit may obtain the keyword from a storage device external to the electronic device.

[0011] With this configuration, the electronic device of the present invention obtains the keyword from a storage device external to the electronic device. Therefore, it is possible to facilitate the change of the keyword as compared with the configuration of obtaining the keyword from inside the electronic device.

[0012] In the electronic device of the present invention, the keyword is classified according to the type of malfunction occurring in the electronic device, and the log extraction unit may extract the log data using the keyword classified into the specified type when the type is specified.

[0013] With this configuration, the electronic device of the present invention extracts log data using the keyword classified into the specified type when the type of malfunction occurring in the electronic device is specified. Therefore, the convenience can be improved.

[0014] In the electronic device of the present invention, the electronic device can store a plurality of the log data by dividing them into groups in chronological order. When the log extraction unit extracts the log data using a plurality of the keywords, it may extract all the log data in the temporally continuous range including the log data including the keywords in the group including all of the plurality of keywords.

[0015] With this configuration, when the electronic device of the present invention extracts log data using a plurality of keywords, it extracts all the log data in a specific temporally continuous range including the log data including the keywords in the group including all of the plurality of keywords. Therefore, compared with the configuration of extracting all the log data in a specific temporally continuous range including the log data including the keywords in the group including at least one of the plurality of keywords, it is possible to improve the possibility of reducing the number of log data to be extracted.

[0027] FIG. 2 is a diagram showing an example of the log data stored in the storage unit 27.

[0028] In FIG. 2, only some of the log data is specifically shown. Only a part of the content of the log data specifically shown in FIG. 2 is specifically shown. For example, although each log data actually includes a date and time, it is omitted and represented in FIG. 2.

[0029] As shown in FIG. 2, each log data is attached with a different number (hereinafter referred to as "line number") at the left end. The log data with a smaller line number is older log data.

[0030] In FIG. 2, "Network Init" included in the log data with line number 1 indicates that communication via the network has started. In FIG. 2, "Network End" included in the log data with line number 15 indicates that communication via the network has ended. In FIG. 2, "Print Init" included in the log data with line number 101 indicates that printing by the printer has started. In FIG. 2, "Print End" included in the log data with line number 115 indicates that printing by the printer has ended.

[0031] The storage unit 27 can store by dividing a plurality of log data into groups in chronological order (hereinafter referred to as "log data groups"). In the example shown in FIG. 2, the log data with line numbers 1 to 30 belongs to the log data group 51, the log data with line numbers 31 to 69 belongs to the log data group 52, the log data with line numbers 70 to 100 belongs to the log data group 53, and the log data with line numbers 101 to 130 belongs to the log data group 54.

[0032] As shown in FIG. 1, the storage unit 27 can store a log extraction program 27c for extracting at least a part of the log data from the log data stored in the storage unit 27. The log extraction program 27c may be installed in the image forming apparatus 20, for example, at the manufacturing stage of the image forming apparatus 20, may be additionally installed in the image forming apparatus 20 from an external storage medium such as a USB memory, or may be additionally installed in the image forming apparatus 20 from the network. The log extraction program 27c may be at least a part of the firmware.

[0033] The control unit 28 includes, for example, a CPU (Central Processing Unit), a ROM (Read Only Memory) that stores programs and various data, and a RAM (Random Access Memory) that serves as a working area for the CPU of the control unit 28. The CPU of the control unit 28 executes a program stored in the storage unit 27 or the ROM of the control unit 28.

[0034] The control unit 28 realizes a log generation unit 28a that generates log data by executing a log generation program 27a.

[0035] The control unit 28 realizes a log extraction unit 28b that extracts at least a part of the log data from the log data stored in the storage unit 27 by executing a log extraction program 27c.

[0036] The removable storage device 30 can store keyword data 31 including at least one keyword for each type of problem (hereinafter referred to as "event") that occurs in the image forming apparatus, such as problems related to the network and problems related to printing by the printer.

[0037] FIG. 3 is a diagram showing an example of the keyword data 31.

[0038] The keyword data 31 shown in FIG. 3 includes "Network Init" and "Network End" as keywords for event A which is a problem related to the network, and includes "Print Init" and "Print End" as keywords for event B which is a problem related to printing by the printer. That is, the keywords are classified for each event.

[0039] As shown in FIG. 1, the network-connected storage device 40 can store keyword data 41 including at least one keyword for each event. Since the keyword data 41 is the same as the keyword data 31, a detailed description thereof is omitted.

[0040] Next, the operation of the image forming apparatus 20 will be described.

[0041] First, the operation of the image forming apparatus 20 when generating log data will be described.

[0042] FIG. 4 is a flowchart of the operation of the image forming apparatus 20 when generating log data.

[0043] When the image forming apparatus 20 is activated, the control unit 28 of the image forming apparatus 20 executes the operations shown in FIG. 4.

[0044] As shown in FIG. 4, the log generation unit 28a determines whether or not the conditions for generating log data are satisfied until it determines that the conditions for generating log data are satisfied (S101).

[0045] When the log generation unit 28a determines in S101 that the conditions for generating log data are satisfied, it determines whether or not log data is stored in the storage unit 27 (S102).

[0046] When the log generation unit 28a determines in S102 that no log data is stored in the storage unit 27, it generates log data with a line number of 1 attached (S103).

[0047] When the process of S103 is completed, the log generation unit 28a stores the log data generated in S103 in the storage unit 27 as log data in a new log data group (S104).

[0048] When the log generation unit 28a determines in S102 that log data is stored in the storage unit 27, it generates log data with a line number that is 1 more than the line number attached to the latest log data stored in the storage unit 27 (S105).

[0049] When the process of S105 ends, the log generation unit 28a determines whether the sum of the data size of the log data group to which the latest log data stored in the storage unit 27 belongs and the data size of the log data generated in S105 is equal to or less than a specific data size (S106).

[0050] When the log generation unit 28a determines in S106 that the sum of the data size of the log data group to which the latest log data stored in the storage unit 27 belongs and the data size of the log data generated in S105 is equal to or less than a specific data size, the log generation unit 28a stores the log data generated in S105 in the storage unit 27 as the log data of the log data group to which the latest log data stored in the storage unit 27 belongs (S107).

[0051] When the log generation unit 28a determines in S106 that the sum of the data size of the log data group to which the latest log data stored in the storage unit 27 belongs and the data size of the log data generated in S105 is not equal to or less than a specific data size, the log generation unit 28a stores the log data generated in S105 in the storage unit 27 as the log data of a new log data group (S108).

[0052] When the process of S104, S107, or S108 ends, the log generation unit 28a executes the process of S101.

[0053] Next, the operation of the image forming apparatus 20 when extracting at least a part of the log data from the log data stored in the storage unit 27 will be described.

[0054] FIG. 5 is a flowchart of the operation of the image forming apparatus 20 when extracting at least a part of the log data from the log data stored in the storage unit 27.

[0055] A user such as a service person of the image forming apparatus 20 can instruct the image forming apparatus 20 via the operation unit 21 or the communication unit 25 to execute an operation of extracting at least a part of the log data from the log data stored in the storage unit 27 (hereinafter referred to as "log extraction operation"). When the execution of the log extraction operation is instructed, the control unit 28 of the image forming apparatus 20 executes the operation shown in FIG. 5.

[0056] As shown in FIG. 5, the log extraction unit 28b displays a setting screen for the log extraction operation (hereinafter referred to as "log extraction operation setting screen") on the display unit 22 (S121). The log extraction operation setting screen can accept the designation of the acquisition destination of keywords (hereinafter referred to as "keyword acquisition destination"), the designation of events, the designation of the storage destination of the extracted log data (hereinafter referred to as "extracted log storage destination"), and the instruction to execute the extraction of the log data. As the keyword acquisition destination, for example, the removable storage device 30 or the network-connected storage device 40 can be designated on the log extraction operation setting screen. Similarly, as the extracted log storage destination, for example, the removable storage device 30 or the network-connected storage device 40 can be designated on the log extraction operation setting screen.

[0057] When the process of S121 ends, the log extraction unit 28b determines whether or not an instruction to execute the extraction of the log data has been received on the log extraction operation setting screen until it is determined that an instruction to execute the extraction of the log data has been received on the log extraction operation setting screen (S122).

[0058] When the log extraction unit 28b determines in S122 that an instruction to execute the extraction of log data has been received on the log extraction operation setting screen, it obtains, from the keyword acquisition destination specified on the log extraction operation setting screen at the time when the instruction to execute the extraction of log data was received on the log extraction operation setting screen, the keywords of the events specified on the log extraction operation setting screen at the time when the instruction to execute the extraction of log data was received on the log extraction operation setting screen (S123). For example, when the keyword acquisition destination specified on the log extraction operation setting screen at the time when the instruction to execute the extraction of log data was received is the removable storage device 30, and the event specified on the log extraction operation setting screen at the time when the instruction to execute the extraction of log data was received is event A, and the keyword data 31 stored in the removable storage device 30 is as shown in FIG. 3, the log extraction unit 28b obtains "Network Init" and "Network End" as keywords in S123.

[0059] Regarding the method by which the log extraction unit 28b identifies the files containing keywords from the files stored in the keyword acquisition destination, various methods can be adopted. For example, the log extraction unit 28b may identify, as the files containing keywords, the files with a specific file name from the files stored in the keyword acquisition destination. Further, the log extraction unit 28b may identify, as the files containing keywords, the files containing a specific syntax such as "keyword:" from the files stored in the keyword acquisition destination.

[0060] When the process of S123 ends, the log extraction unit 28b determines whether log data is stored in the storage unit 27 (S124).

[0061] When the log extraction unit 28b determines in S124 that log data is stored in the storage unit 27, it targets only the latest log data group stored in the storage unit 27 (S125).

[0062] When the process of S125 ends, the log extraction unit 28b determines whether all of the keywords acquired in S123 are included in the current target log data group (S126).

[0063] When the log extraction unit 28b determines in S126 that all of the keywords acquired in S123 are included in the current target log data group, it extracts, as candidates for storage (hereinafter referred to as "storage candidates") in the extraction log storage destination, all of the log data included in a specific number of, for example, one log data group that is older than the current target log data group and closest in time to the current target log data group, all of the log data included in the current target log data group, and all of the log data included in a specific number of, for example, one log data group that is newer than the current target log data group and closest in time to the current target log data group (S127). For example, the log extraction unit 28b extracts, in S127, as storage candidates, all of the log data included in the log data group that is one older than the current target log data group, all of the log data included in the current target log data group, and all of the log data included in the log data group that is one newer than the current target log data group. Note that when at least a part of a specific number of log data groups that are older than the current target log data group and closest in time to the current target log data group does not exist, the log extraction unit 28b does not consider the non-existent log data groups in S127. Similarly, when at least a part of a specific number of log data groups that are newer than the current target log data group and closest in time to the current target log data group does not exist, the log extraction unit 28b does not consider the non-existent log data groups in S127.

[0064] When the process of S127 ends, the log extraction unit 28b determines whether there is log data that has already been stored in the extraction log storage destination in the operation shown in FIG. 5 this time among the storage candidates extracted in S127 (S128).

[0065] If the log extraction unit 28b determines in S128 that there is log data already stored in the extraction log storage destination among the storage candidates extracted in S127 for the operation shown in FIG. 5 this time, it deletes the log data already stored in the extraction log storage destination from the storage candidates extracted in S127 (S129).

[0066] When the log extraction unit 28b determines in S128 that there is no log data already stored in the extraction log storage destination among the storage candidates extracted in S127 for the operation shown in FIG. 5 this time, or when the process of S129 ends, it stores the current storage candidates in the extraction log storage destination specified in the log extraction operation setting screen when an instruction to execute the extraction of log data is received on the log extraction operation setting screen (S130).

[0067] When the log extraction unit 28b determines in S126 that at least one of the keywords acquired in S123 is not included in the current target log data group, or when the process of S130 ends, it determines whether there is a log data group older than the current target log data group stored in the storage unit 27 (S131).

[0068] When the log extraction unit 28b determines in S131 that there is a log data group older than the current target log data group stored in the storage unit 27, it sets only the log data group one older than the current target log data group as the new target (S132) and executes the process of S126.

[0069] When the log extraction unit 28b determines in S124 that there is no log data stored in the storage unit 27, or when it determines in S131 that there is no log data group older than the current target log data group stored in the storage unit 27, it ends the operation shown in FIG. 5.

[0070] Next, the method for generating keywords in the keyword data 31 and 41 shown in FIG. 1 will be described.

[0071] First, the configuration of the keyword generation system that generates keywords in the keyword data 31 and 41 will be described.

[0072] FIG. 6 is a block diagram of an example of the keyword generation system 60.

[0073] The keyword generation system 60 shown in FIG. 6 includes an operation unit 61 which is an operation device such as a keyboard or a mouse to which various operations are input, a display unit 62 which is a display device such as an LCD for displaying various information, a communication unit 63 which is a communication device that communicates directly with an external device by wire or wirelessly via a network such as a LAN or the Internet, or without going through the network, and a storage unit 64 which is a non-volatile storage device such as a semiconductor memory or an HDD for storing various information, and a control unit 65 for controlling the entire keyword generation system 60. The keyword generation system 60 may be configured by, for example, a PC (Personal Computer).

[0074] When information on the analysis of the cause of a defect and the means for solving the defect (hereinafter referred to as "past defect claim information") obtained by analyzing a defect that occurred in the past is input to the storage unit 64, the storage unit 64 can store a machine learning model 64a that outputs at least one keyword for each event.

[0075] The control unit 65 includes, for example, a CPU, a ROM that stores programs and various data, and a RAM that serves as a work area for the CPU of the control unit 65. The CPU of the control unit 65 executes a program stored in the storage unit 64 or the ROM of the control unit 65.

[0076] Next, the operation of the keyword generation system 60 will be described.

[0077] When a user of the keyword generation system 60 instructs the keyword generation system 60 via the operation unit 61 or the communication unit 63 to output keywords based on specific past defect claim information, the control unit 65 of the keyword generation system 60 automatically generates at least one keyword for each event by using the machine learning model 64a with the past defect claim information specified by the user as input.

[0078] In the above, a method of automatically generating keywords by a machine learning model has been described. However, for example, a method of automatically generating at least one keyword for each event according to specific rules with past defect claim information as input, or other methods other than the machine learning model may be used to automatically generate keywords.

[0079] In the above, a method of automatically generating keywords has been described. However, the keywords may be generated manually, for example, based on past defect claim information.

[0080] As described above, since the image forming apparatus 20 extracts all the log data in a specific continuous time range including the log data containing specific keywords (S126 to S129), it is possible to extract log data that is likely to be important from the log data generated by the image forming apparatus 20.

[0081] Since the image forming apparatus 20 can extract log data that is likely to be important from the log data generated by the image forming apparatus 20, it is possible to reduce the total data size of all the log data stored in the removable storage device 30 or the network-connected storage device 40 as the extraction log storage destination. Therefore, the image forming apparatus 20 can reduce the possibility that the free capacity in the extraction log storage destination runs out and the log data cannot be stored in the extraction log storage destination.

[0082] When the image forming apparatus 20 extracts some of the log data from the log data generated by the image forming apparatus 20 in response to an instruction by a service person who visited the vicinity of the image forming apparatus 20, and it is found that the image forming apparatus 20 cannot extract log data that is likely to be important from the log data generated by the image forming apparatus 20 after the service person has returned from the vicinity of the image forming apparatus 20, the service person needs to revisit the vicinity of the image forming apparatus 20 for re-extraction of the log data. However, since the image forming apparatus 20 can extract log data that is likely to be important from the log data generated by the image forming apparatus 20, it is possible to reduce the trouble of the service person revisiting the vicinity of the image forming apparatus 20 for re-extraction of the log data.

[0083] If log data is stored in the extraction log storage destination, the image forming apparatus 20 means that at least a part of the log data stored in the extraction log storage destination contains a keyword. Therefore, it is possible to have the service person confirm in the vicinity of the image forming apparatus 20 that the image forming apparatus 20 has been able to extract log data that is likely to be important from the log data generated by the image forming apparatus 20. Accordingly, the image forming apparatus 20 can reduce the trouble of the service person revisiting the vicinity of the image forming apparatus 20 for re-extraction of the log data.

[0084] Since the image forming apparatus 20 extracts all of the log data of a specific number of temporally consecutive log data groups including a log data group including a specific keyword (S126 to S129), the log data can be extracted in units of log data groups.

[0085] Note that the image forming apparatus 20 may extract log data in units of log data instead of in units of log data groups. For example, the image forming apparatus 20, among the current target log data groups, extracts log data (hereinafter referred to as "keyword-containing log data") including the keyword acquired in S123, a specific number of, for example, 50 log data older than the keyword-containing log data and closest in time to the keyword-containing log data, and a specific number of, for example, 50 log data newer than the keyword-containing log data and closest in time to the keyword-containing log data, as storage candidates, and may replace the process of S127 with this process.

[0086] Since the image forming apparatus 20 acquires keywords from a removable storage device 30 or a network-connected storage device 40, which are external storage devices of the image forming apparatus 20, it is possible to facilitate the change of keywords as compared with a configuration in which keywords are acquired from inside the image forming apparatus 20. Since the image forming apparatus 20 acquires keywords from an external storage device of the image forming apparatus 20, the keywords can be changed without changing the log extraction program 27c. When the log extraction program 27c does not need to be changed, the image forming apparatus 20 can reduce the time for changing the log extraction program 27c.

[0087] When an event is specified, the image forming apparatus 20 extracts log data using keywords classified into the specified event, so that convenience can be improved.

[0088] However, the keywords at the keyword acquisition destination do not necessarily have to be classified for each event. When the keywords at the keyword acquisition destination are not classified for each event, it is not necessary to specify an event on the log extraction operation setting screen.

[0089] When the image forming apparatus 20 extracts log data using a plurality of keywords, it extracts all log data in a specific temporally continuous range that includes log data containing the keywords in a log data group that includes all of the plurality of keywords. Therefore, compared to a configuration that extracts all log data in a specific temporally continuous range that includes log data containing the keywords in a log data group that includes at least one of the plurality of keywords, the possibility of reducing the number of log data to be extracted can be improved.

[0090] However, when the image forming apparatus 20 extracts log data using a plurality of keywords, it may extract all log data in a specific temporally continuous range that includes log data containing the keywords in a log data group that includes at least one of the plurality of keywords.

[0091] In the operation shown in FIG. 5, the image forming apparatus 20 executes a search for a log data group containing keywords from the latest log data group toward the oldest log data group. However, the image forming apparatus 20 may execute a search for a log data group containing keywords in any order with respect to a plurality of log data groups. For example, the image forming apparatus 20 may execute a search for a log data group containing keywords from the oldest log data group toward the latest log data group.

[0092] The electronic device of the present invention is an image forming apparatus in the present embodiment. However, the electronic device of the present invention may be an electronic device other than an image forming apparatus.
