Description

[Technical Field]

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 452321, filed March 15, 2023, and Danish Patent Application No. PA202330121, filed July 11, 2023, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference herein.

[0002] Field of Disclosure The present invention describes a composition comprising an aldehyde. The composition has improved aldehyde release rate and decomposition properties compared to the aldehyde alone. The present invention also describes a method for changing the evaporation rate of the aldehyde using the composition. The present invention also describes a method for controlling pests using the composition. [Background technology]

[0003] Aldehyde compositions are difficult to formulate for many reasons, such as reactions with other ingredients in the formulation matrix, degradation of the aldehyde over time, and unfavorable release rates from the formulation. This is especially true when the aldehyde is the active ingredient and must be delivered at a certain release rate over time. Therefore, there is a need in the art for compositions containing aldehydes with improved release rates and degradation properties.

[0004] The present disclosure provides a means to change the physical state of aldehydes, thereby modifying their release rate and degradation. The present disclosure allows for aqueous suspensions of aldehydes, such as pheromones, that can be used in sprayable agricultural formulations. Such sprayable formulations are essential for row crop applications. The present disclosure also allows for solidification, which can be molded into shapes suitable for other delivery mechanisms, such as granule applicators, drones, and traps. Summary of the Invention

[0005] In one embodiment, the present disclosure relates to a composition comprising an aldehyde; a polyol containing 2-20 carbon atoms; optionally a non-aldehyde pheromone; optionally a solvent; and optionally a stabilizer.

[0006] In another embodiment, the present disclosure relates to a method for altering the evaporation rate of an aldehyde, the method comprising contacting the aldehyde with a composition comprising a polyol containing 2-20 carbon atoms; optionally a non-aldehyde pheromone; optionally a solvent; and optionally a stabilizer.

[0007] In yet another embodiment, the present disclosure relates to a method for controlling pests comprising contacting the pests or their environment with a biologically effective amount of a composition comprising: an aldehyde; a polyol containing 2-20 carbon atoms; optionally a non-aldehyde pheromone; optionally a solvent; and optionally a stabilizer.

[0008] These and other features, aspects, and advantages of the present disclosure will become better understood from the following detailed description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. [Brief explanation of the drawings]

[0009] [Figure 1] 1 shows aldehyde retention for compositions according to the present disclosure.

[0010] Unless otherwise indicated, the drawings provided herein are meant to illustrate features of embodiments of the present disclosure. These features are believed to be applicable in a wide variety of systems comprising one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. As such, the drawings are not meant to include all conventional features known to those skilled in the art to be required for the practice of the embodiments disclosed herein. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0011] This written specification uses examples to explain the disclosure, including the best mode, and also enables any person skilled in the art to practice the disclosure, including making and using any compositions or systems, and performing any incorporated methods. The patentable scope of the disclosure is defined by the claims, and may include other examples that occur to those skilled in the art. Such other examples are intended to be within the scope of the claims if they have elements that differ no more from the literal language of the claims, or if they include equivalent elements that have insubstantial differences from the literal language of the claims.

[0012] As used herein, the terms "comprise," "including," "include," "including," "having," "having," "containing," "characterized by," or any other variation thereof, are intended to cover a non-exclusive inclusion, subject to the limitations expressly stated. For example, a composition, mixture, process, or method that includes a list of elements is not necessarily limited to only those elements but may include other elements not expressly listed or inherent in such composition, mixture, process, or method.

[0013] The transitional phrase "consisting of" excludes any unspecified element, step, or ingredient. In a claim, such a phrase would exclude the inclusion of materials other than those recited, except for impurities normally associated therewith. When the phrase "consisting of" appears in a clause in the body of a claim rather than immediately following a preamble, it limits only the elements specified in that clause; other elements are not excluded from the claim as a whole.

[0014] The transitional phrase "consisting essentially of" is used to define compositions or methods that include materials, steps, features, ingredients, or elements in addition to those literally disclosed, provided that these additional materials, steps, features, ingredients, or elements do not materially affect the basic and novel characteristic(s) of the claimed invention. The term "consisting essentially of" occupies a middle ground between "comprising" and "consisting of." The use of "consisting essentially of" herein allows applicant, as a lexicographer, to define the claimed invention by excluding any material, step, feature, etc. that applicant deems not essential to the claimed invention but that may be known in the prior art and that could otherwise be included in the claimed invention, regardless of whether such inclusion or exclusion is specifically recited in the specification. Applicant's exclusion of materials, steps, features, etc. may be for the sole purpose of eliminating prior art elements that affect the novelty and therefore the patentability of the claimed invention. As such, the use of "consisting essentially of" herein does not require explicit support from the specification to exclude a prior art element from the claimed invention if the inclusion of said element would be detrimental to the patentability of the claimed invention.

[0015] It should be readily understood that where an invention or portion thereof is defined using open-ended terms, such as "comprising," the description should also be construed (unless otherwise specified) as describing such invention using the terms "consisting essentially of" or "consisting of."

[0016] Furthermore, unless expressly stated otherwise, "or" refers to an inclusive or, not an exclusive or. For example, condition A or B can be satisfied by any one of the following: A is true (or exists) and B is false (or does not exist), A is false (or does not exist) and B is true (or exists), and A and B are both true (or exist).

[0017] Also, the indefinite article "a" and "an" preceding an element or component of the invention are not intended to be limiting as to the number of instances (i.e., occurrences) of the element or component. Thus, "a" and "an" should be read as including one or at least one, and singular word forms of elements or components also include plurals unless the number clearly indicates the singular.

[0018] As used herein, depending on the context in which it is used, the term "about" provides an estimate of a value associated with the claimed invention, which estimate is reasonable when considered in conjunction with the description of the invention and in light of what is known from information available to the public, as such information would be understood or interpreted by one of ordinary skill in the art. Generally, the term "about" is used herein to mean that the estimate is within plus or minus 10% of the associated value. The term "about" can be further defined by the context, and it is within the applicant's lexicographical rights to dictate how "about" should be interpreted within the particular context in which it is used in describing the invention.

[0019] As used herein, "wt%" indicates the weight percent of the recited component relative to the total weight of the recited composition.

[0020] As used herein, "substantially free" generally refers to 2 wt% or less. In some embodiments, "substantially free" refers to 1.5 wt% or less, 1.0 wt% or less, 0.5 wt% or less, or 0.1 wt% or less.

[0021] In the context of this disclosure, "invertebrate pest control" means the suppression of invertebrate pest infestations (including mortality, feeding reduction, and / or mating disruption), and related phrases are similarly defined.

[0022] As referred to in this disclosure, the term "invertebrate pests" includes arthropods, gastropods, nematodes, and helminths as economically important pests. The term "arthropods" includes insects, mites, spiders, scorpions, centipedes, millipedes, pillbugs, and symphysodon. The term "gastropods" includes snails, slugs, and other stylommatophora. The term "nematodes" includes members of the phylum Nematoda, such as plant-eating nematodes and helminth nematode parasites. The term "helminths" includes all parasites, such as roundworms (Nematoda), heartworms (Nematoda, Diplophora), trematodes (Platyhelminthes, Trematoda), acanthocephala (Acanthocephala), and tapeworms (Platyhelminthes, Cestoda).

[0023] The term "agronomic" refers to field production; including the growing of crops, such as corn or maize, soybeans and other legumes, rice, grains (e.g., wheat, oats, barley, rye, and rice), leafy vegetables (e.g., lettuce, cabbage, and other cole crops), fruit vegetables (e.g., tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, brassicas, and cucurbits), potatoes, sweet potatoes, grapes, cotton, tree fruits (e.g., pome fruits, stone fruits, and citrus fruits), small fruits (e.g., berries and cherries), and other specialty crops (e.g., canola, sunflowers, and olives).

[0024] The term "non-agricultural" refers to uses other than crops, such as horticultural crops (e.g., greenhouse, nursery, or ornamental plants not grown in a field), residential, agricultural, commercial, and industrial structures, turf (e.g., turf farms, pastures, golf courses, lawns, sports fields, etc.), wood products, storage, agroforestry and vegetation management, public health (i.e., humans) and animal health (e.g., domesticated animals, e.g., pets, livestock, and poultry, non-domesticated animals, e.g., wildlife).

[0025] The term "crop vigor" refers to the growth rate or biomass accumulation of a crop plant. "Increased vigor" refers to an increase in growth or biomass accumulation of a crop plant relative to an untreated control crop plant. The term "crop yield" refers to the return on crop material, in terms of both quantity and quality, obtained after harvesting a crop plant. "Increased crop yield" refers to an increase in crop yield relative to an untreated control crop plant.

[0026] The term "biologically effective amount" refers to an amount of a biologically active compound sufficient to produce a desired biological effect when applied to (i.e., in contact with) the invertebrate pest to be controlled or its environment, or to the plant or the locus of the plant (e.g., growth medium) on which seeds from the plant are grown, for protecting the plant from damage by the invertebrate pest, or for other desired effect (e.g., increased plant vigor).

[0027] Non-agricultural uses include protecting animals from invertebrate parasitic pests by administering to the animal to be protected a parasitically effective (i.e., biologically effective) amount of a bioactive compound of the present disclosure, typically in the form of a composition formulated for veterinary use. As referred to in this disclosure and claims, the terms "parasiticidal" and "parasitically" refer to an observable effect on an invertebrate parasitic pest that provides protection for the animal from the pest. A parasiticidal effect is typically associated with reducing the occurrence or activity of the target invertebrate parasitic pest. Such effects on pests include necrosis, death, retarded growth, reduced mobility or reduced ability to persist on or in the host animal, reduced feeding, and suppressed reproduction. These effects on invertebrate parasitic pests provide control (e.g., prevention, reduction, or elimination) of parasitic infestation or infection in the animal.

[0028] It will be readily understood by those skilled in the art that some substituents in the present disclosure are dependent on the presence of other substituents and are therefore optional. For example, in Formula I, when c is 0, the -OH group is directly attached to the carbon of b. The optionality of a substituent in one embodiment is non-limiting with respect to the presence of a substituent in another embodiment.

[0029] It will be readily understood by those skilled in the art that some substituents of the present disclosure may be present in repeating groups, but may also be selected independently from other repeating substituents. For example, in Formula I, if b is 2, there will be two independent selections of R3 and two independent selections of R4. The selection of substituents in one repeating group of an embodiment is non-limiting with respect to the selection of substituents in another repeating group of the embodiment.

[0090] In some embodiments, the aldehyde and polyol are present in the form of an aldehyde-polyol adduct. In some embodiments, the aldehyde and polyol are present in the form of an aldehyde-diol adduct. In some embodiments, the aldehyde-polyol adduct can be used as a carrier for lipid molecules.

[0091] The compositions of this disclosure are useful for controlling a wide range of invertebrate pests. These pests include invertebrates that live in various environments, such as, for example, plant leaves, roots, soil, harvested crops or other food products, building structures, or animal skin. These pests include, for example, invertebrates that feed on leaves (e.g., leaves, stems, flowers, and fruits), seeds, wood, textile fibers, or animal blood or tissue, thereby causing damage or harm to, for example, growing or stored agricultural crops, forests, greenhouse crops, ornamental plants, nursery crops, stored food or textile products, or homes or other structures or their contents, or are harmful to animal health or public health. Those skilled in the art will recognize that not all compositions are equally effective against all developmental stages of all pests.

[0092] Thus, these compositions are useful agronomically to protect agricultural crops from plant-eating invertebrate pests and non-agronomically to protect other horticultural crops and plants from plant-eating invertebrate pests. This utility includes protecting crops and other plants (i.e., both agronomic and non-agronomic) that contain genetic material introduced by genetic engineering (i.e., transgenic) or modified by mutagenesis to provide advantageous traits. Examples of such traits include herbicide tolerance, resistance to plant-eating pests (e.g., insects, mites, aphids, spiders, nematodes, snails, plant pathogenic fungi, bacteria, and viruses), improved plant growth, increased tolerance to adverse growing conditions such as high or low temperatures, low or high soil moisture, and high salinity, increased flowering or fruit set, greater yield, more rapid maturation, higher quality and / or nutritional value of the harvested product, or improved storage or processing characteristics of the harvested product. Transgenic plants can be engineered to express multiple traits. Examples of plants containing traits provided by genetic engineering or mutagenesis include: corn, cotton, soybean, and potato varieties that express insecticidal Bacillus thuringiensis toxins, such as YIELD GARD®, KNOCKOUT®, STARLINK®, BOLLGARD®, NuCOTN®, and NEWLEAF®, INVICTA RR2 PRO™, and herbicide-tolerant varieties of corn, cotton, soybean, and rapeseed, such as ROUNDUP READY®, LIBERTY LINK®, IMI®, STS®, and CLEARFIELD®, as well as crops that express N-acetyltransferase (GAT) genes that provide resistance to glyphosate herbicides or that contain HRA genes that provide resistance to herbicides that inhibit acetolactate synthase (ALS). The compositions may exhibit enhanced efficacy due to genetically engineered or mutagenized traits, thereby enhancing the phenotypic expression or efficacy of the trait or increasing the invertebrate pest control efficacy of the compounds and compositions. In particular, the compositions may exhibit enhanced efficacy due to the phenotypic expression of proteins or other natural products that are toxic to invertebrate pests, providing more than additive control of these pests.

[0093] The compositions of the present disclosure can also optionally include a fertilizer composition containing at least one plant nutrient selected from nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, boron, manganese, zinc, and molybdenum. Of note are compositions containing at least one fertilizer composition containing at least one plant nutrient selected from nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, calcium, and magnesium. The compositions of the present disclosure further containing at least one plant nutrient can be in liquid or solid form. Of note are solid formulations in the form of granules, small rods, or tablets. A solid formulation containing a fertilizer composition can be prepared by mixing the composition of the present disclosure with the fertilizer composition and the formulation ingredients together, and then preparing the formulation by a method such as granulation or extrusion. Alternatively, a solid formulation can be prepared by spraying a solution or suspension of the composition of the present disclosure in a volatile solvent onto a dimensionally stable mixture, such as a fertilizer composition previously prepared in the form of granules, small rods, or tablets, and then allowing the solvent to evaporate.

[0094] Non-agricultural uses refer to the control of invertebrate pests in areas other than the field of crop plants.Non-agricultural uses of the present composition include the control of invertebrate pests in stored grains, legumes, and other foodstuffs, and textiles such as clothing and carpets.Non-agricultural uses of the present composition also include the control of invertebrate pests in ornamental plants, forests, gardens, road and railroad rights-of-way, and lawns, such as turf, golf courses, and pastures.Non-agricultural uses of the present composition also include the control of invertebrate pests in homes and other buildings that may be occupied by humans and / or pets, farms, ranches, zoos, or other animals.Non-agricultural uses of the present composition also include the control of pests such as termites that may damage wood or other structural materials used in buildings.

[0095] Non-agricultural uses of the present compositions also include protecting human and animal health by controlling invertebrate pests that are parasitic or transmit infectious diseases. Control of animal parasites includes controlling ectoparasites that infest the host animal's body surface (e.g., shoulders, armpits, abdomen, inner thighs) and endoparasites that infest the host animal's body (e.g., stomach, intestines, lungs, veins, subcutaneous tissue, lymphatic tissue). Ectoparasitic or disease-transmitting pests include, for example, chiggers, ticks, lice, mosquitoes, flies, mites, and fleas. Endoparasites include heartworms, hookworms, and helminths. The compositions of the present disclosure are suitable for systemic and / or non-systemic control of parasitic infestation or infection on animals. The compositions of the present disclosure are suitable for combating ectoparasitic pests or disease-transmitting pests. The compositions of the present disclosure are suitable for combating parasites in agricultural work animals, such as cattle, sheep, goats, horses, pigs, donkeys, camels, buffalo, rabbits, hens, turkeys, ducks, geese, and honeybees; pet animals and farm animals, such as dogs, cats, pet birds, and aquarium fish; and so-called laboratory animals, such as hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, and mice. Combating these parasites reduces mortality and performance loss (in terms of meat, milk, wool, skin, eggs, honey, etc.), and thus application of the compositions of the present disclosure allows for more economical and simple animal farming.

[0158] Without further elaboration, it is believed that one skilled in the art can, using the preceding description, utilize the present invention to its fullest extent. Therefore, the following examples are to be construed as merely illustrative and not limiting of the disclosure in any way.

[0159] Example Example 1. Physical state The polyols in Table 1 were combined with a mixture containing (Z)-11-hexadecenal, (Z)-9-hexadecenal, and hexadecenal at room temperature to determine the physical state of the combination. It was observed that the polyols with higher molecular weights were in a solid physical state. [Table 1]

[0160] Example 2. Physical state The physical state of 10 g of aldehyde combined with various amounts of polyol was determined, and the results are shown in Tables 2 and 3 below. [Table 2] [Table 3]

[0161] Example 3. Recovery of aldehyde A known amount of aldehyde mixture containing Z11-16 aldehyde and polyol was mixed to obtain a solid. The amount of Z11-16 aldehyde was then determined by gas chromatography (GC) after dissolving in a solvent or solvent mixture. The aldehyde could be completely recovered from the polyol mixture. [Table 4]

[0162] Example 4. Aldehyde evaporation To measure aldehyde evaporation, mixtures of octanal and various polyols in a 2:1 aldehyde:polyol molar ratio were evaporated at 100 °C in a dry balance and compared with pure octanal as a reference. The results are shown in Table 4. It was shown that the evaporation rate was affected by the presence and nature of the polyol. Mixtures with polyols were shown to have significantly different evaporation rates, and therefore vapor pressures. It can therefore be concluded that the evaporation rate can be modified by adding polyols. [Table 5]

[0163] Example 5. Characterization Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that (Z)-11-hexadecenal, (Z)-11-hexadecenal, and a 2.1 molar mixture containing hexadecenal and polyols selected from 1,4-butanediol, 1,6-hexanediol, and 1,10-decanediol all had melting points in the range of 37-39°C. All tested mixtures evaporated completely at 260°C.

[0164] Example 6. Timing of solidification Aldehyde pheromones containing (Z)-11-hexadecenal, (Z)-11-hexadecenal, and hexadecenal were mixed with polyol in scintillation vials at 50°C and allowed to cool to room temperature. Appearance was recorded over the next 24 hours. The results are shown in Table 5 and indicate that such combinations between aldehydes and polyols can solidify over time. [Table 6]

[0165] Example 7. Volatility control of emulsion-in-water (EW) formulations Samples were prepared using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-grade water to form a 1000 ppm spray solution. For the initial sample, 3.0 mL of acetone was added to a scintillation vial, followed by 30 μL of spray solution. 30 μL spots of sample were made on German glass coverslips in a 24-well Falcon plate, and the array was then placed in an environmental chamber at 25°C and 50% humidity.

[0166] Samples were extracted by placing glass cover slips in scintillation vials with 3 mL of acetone and sonicating on ice for two 30-minute cycles. Extracted samples were analyzed using GC.

[0167] The results are shown in Table 7. CAPA4101 is a 1000 g / mol polycaprolactone polyol tetrol initiated with pentaerythritol (PENTA). CAPA2402 is a polyester polyol based on 4000 g / mol polycaprolactone diol initiated with 1,4-butanediol (BDO). CAPA3051 is a trifunctional polycaprolactone polyol with a molecular weight of 540 g / mol. The results show that the combination of aldehydes with polyols, especially caprolactone polyols, can improve aldehyde retention relative to the control. [Table 7]

[0168] Example 8. Encapsulation Capsule suspension (CS) formulations according to the formula in Table 8 were prepared by interfacial polymerization. The process involved dispersing one phase containing reactive monomers, pheromone technology, and solvent(s) into a second immiscible phase containing water and dispersant(s). The size of the resulting droplets was controlled by the stirrer speed. The slurry was then mixed at a lower speed for several hours at 50-60°C to achieve complete reaction of the monomers. A finishing operation was then performed, which included adjusting the acidity of the medium and adding post-formulation ingredients (e.g., biocides, rheology modifiers, antifreeze compounds, etc.) to obtain the final formulation. After sample preparation, the formulations were stored in sealed glass containers at 54°C for two weeks, after which the formulations were analyzed for percent aldehyde and acetate pheromone content. As shown in Table 8, encapsulation was observed to improve volatility control by reducing the volatility of the pheromone. The samples containing polyol showed at least about a 25% improvement in volatility control over the control without polyol. It was also observed that the incorporation of polyol enhanced the chemical stability of aldehydes in accelerated storage stability studies.

[0169] Volatility control for pheromones in CS formulations was measured as follows: An aqueous spray solution of the formulated material was applied as droplets onto glass. After the desired period in sunlight-simulated light (0-99 hours), the glass was extracted in a solvent. The extract was analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) to determine the amount of pheromone remaining on the glass. T24hr represents 24 hours of continuous lighting in the sunlight-simulated light chamber. Each 24-hour period in sunlight-simulated light is equivalent to 2.5 days of sunlight. [Table 8]

[0170] Example 9. Comparative Encapsulation Study Capsule suspension formulations were prepared using different polyols according to Table 9, as in Example 8. After preparation, the formulations were dispersed in sand-filled plates and stored at 35°C with airflow for up to 48 hours. The plates were analyzed for aldehyde and acetate content at 6, 24, and 48 hours, and the results are shown in Figure 1. [Table 9]

[0171] Enhanced aldehyde retention was observed with the incorporation of 1,6-hexanediol, as shown in Figure 1. After 48 hours, 40% aldehyde still remained in Formulation A made with 1,6-hexanediol, while only about 15% of the aldehyde was observed to be retained in Formulation B prepared with glycerol, the latter being within the same range as control capsule E, which did not have glycerol or 1,6-hexanediol added.

[0172] Example 10. Aldehyde Volatility Aldehyde volatility was measured using solid-phase microextraction (SPME). The following compositions were included: (1) a blend of aldehydes with the main active ingredient (Z)-11-hexadecenal, hereafter referred to as Z11-16:Ald, (2) Z11-16:Ald / 1,4-butanediol (2:1 molar ratio), (3) Z11-16:Ald / 1,6-hexanediol (2:1 molar ratio), (4) Z11-16:Ald / 1,8-octanediol (2:1 molar ratio), and (5) Z11-16:Ald / 1,10-decanediol (2:1 molar ratio).

[0173] The composition was melted at 70°C for 15 minutes and vortexed. Approximately 50 mg was immediately transferred to a 4 ml vial. The vial was sealed with a screw cap containing a septum. Solid-phase microextraction in still air was used for quantitative headspace sampling. The composition was equilibrated at room temperature for 24 hours before analysis. An SPME needle was inserted into the vial by piercing the septum. A fiber coated with a solid adsorbent (polydimethylsiloxane; 100 μm) was released into the headspace for 45 minutes at room temperature for volatile absorption. The SPME needle was directly inserted into a GC for 5 minutes for thermal desorption and analysis. Chemical analysis was performed on an Agilent 7820 GC coupled to a 5977B MS using a Fatwax column (30 m x 0.32 mm x 0.25 μm) and programmed as follows: 80 °C for 1 min, 20 °C / min, 210 °C for 7 min, 20 °C / min, and 230 °C for 3 min. Z11-16:Ald was identified by comparing its retention time and MS spectrum with those of synthetic standards. Calibration standards containing Z11-16:Ald ranging from 10 mg / L to 800 mg / L were used for quantitative analysis. The amount of Z11-16:Ald absorbed by the SPME fiber in 45 min was calculated for each product. Sampling was performed in duplicate. [Table 10]

[0174] The amount of compound adsorbed onto the fiber is proportional to the vapor pressure of the compound. Samples without polyol had the highest amount of Z11-16:Ald adsorbed by the SPME fiber. Decreased absorption is observed for Z11-16:Ald compositions mixed with polyol. Furthermore, the amount of adsorbed material varies with the type of polyol. For the mixture containing 1,4-butanediol, 0.056 μg was adsorbed onto the fiber; for the mixture containing 1,6-hexanediol, 0.031 μg was adsorbed; for the mixture containing 1,8-octanediol, 0.018 μg was adsorbed; and for the mixture containing 1,10-decanediol, 0.020 μg was adsorbed. The results in Table 9 demonstrate that vapor release can be controlled by both the addition of polyol and the type of polyol added.

[0175] Example 11. Melting Point Hysteresis Mixtures of polyols and aldehydes were tested to determine their physical state after cycling through different temperatures. The mixtures were held at six temperatures in the order shown in the table below. As shown in the table below, various mixtures of polyols and aldehydes tested, with molar ratios containing more polyol than aldehyde, exhibited melting point hysteresis. As a result, by reducing the temperature of the mixture, different physical state changes could be achieved after returning to the original temperature. [Table 11]
