[0011] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[0012] <Configuration of the antenna device> FIG. 1 is a diagram showing the configuration of an antenna device according to this embodiment. The antenna device 100 shown in FIG. 1 is configured by arranging antenna elements 20 on one surface side of a plate-shaped base 10. A reflector is provided on the side of the base 10 on which the antenna elements 20 are arranged. Hereinafter, the surface of the base 10 on which the antenna elements 20 are provided in the antenna device 100 is referred to as the front. Although not shown in the drawings, a cover is attached to the antenna device 100 so as to cover the arrangement of the antenna elements 20. As an example, the size of the antenna device 100 is x=600 mm, y=600 mm, and z=125 mm.
[0013] Fig. 2 is a front view of the antenna device 100. Three or more types of antenna elements 20 corresponding to different frequency bands are arranged on the front of the antenna device 100. In the example shown in Fig. 2, four types of antenna elements 20 are arranged: a LB (low band) element 21, an MB (middle band) element 22, an HB1 (first high band) element 23, and an HB2 (second high band) element 24. In the figure, the area where the antenna elements 20 for each frequency band are arranged is indicated by a dashed line.
[0014] The LB elements 21 are antenna elements 20 that correspond to low-band frequency bands (for example, 0.7 GHz band and 0.8 GHz band). The LB elements 21 are 2MIMO (Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output) including the LB elements 21 arranged along the x direction (horizontal direction; horizontal direction in FIG. 2) shown in FIG. 2 and the LB elements 21 arranged along the y direction (vertical direction; vertical direction in FIG. 2).
[0015] The MB element 22 is an antenna element 20 that supports a middle band frequency band (for example, 1.5 GHz band, 1.7 GHz band, and 2.0 GHz band). The MB element 22 is configured by combining two elements that are inclined at 45 degrees to the xy direction shown in Figure 2 and crossed, and one MB element 22 provides 2MIMO.
[0016] The HB1 element 23 is an antenna element 20 that supports one of two high-band frequency bands (for example, 2.3 GHz band, 2.6 GHz band, and 3.5 GHz band). The HB1 element 23 is configured by combining two elements that are crossed at an angle of 45 degrees with respect to the xy direction shown in Fig. 2, and one HB1 element 23 provides 2MIMO.
[0017] The HB2 element 24 is an antenna element 20 that supports the other frequency band of the two high bands (for example, 3.7 GHz band, 4.5 GHz band, and 3.5 GHz band). The HB2 element 24 is configured by combining two elements that are crossed at an angle of 45 degrees with respect to the xy direction shown in Figure 2, and one HB2 element 24 provides 2MIMO.
[0018] <Configuration and arrangement of antenna elements> Further description will be given of each antenna element 20 and the arrangement of each antenna element 20. As described above, the MB element 22, the HB1 element 23, and the HB2 element 24 are each configured by combining two elements, but the description will be given focusing on one of the elements.
[0019] LB element 21 FIG. 3 is a diagram showing the configuration of the LB element 21. The LB element 21 is configured by providing a radiating portion 21b and a power supply portion 21c on a dielectric substrate 21a. The lower side of the dielectric substrate 21a in FIG. 3 is attached to the reflector of the base 10. The radiating portion 21b and the power supply portion 21c are provided on both sides of the dielectric substrate 21a. In the example shown in FIG. 3, on the surface of the dielectric substrate 21a on the near side of the paper (the surface visible in FIG. 3), the power supply portion 21c rises from near the center of the side attached to the base 10, and the radiating portion 21b extends to the right in the figure. Also, on the surface of the dielectric substrate 21a on the far side of the paper (the surface not visible in FIG. 3), as shown by the dashed line, the power supply portion 21c rises from near the center of the side attached to the base 10, and another radiating portion 21b extends in the opposite direction to the radiating portion 21b on the near side surface.
[0020] Here, if the frequency band supported by the LB element 21 is fc=0.839GHz, the combined length LBa of the two radiating portions 21b provided on both sides of the dielectric substrate 21a is 170mm ≒ 0.48λc. The length LBb of the power feeding portion 21c is 60mm ≒ 0.17λc. The size of the dielectric substrate 21a on which the radiating portions 21b and the power feeding portion 21c are provided is 172mm in length (horizontal direction in the figure) and 80.5mm in height (vertical direction in the figure).
[0021] FIG. 7 is a diagram showing an arrangement of the LB elements 21. The LB elements 21 are divided into two systems, one arranged along the x direction and the other along the y direction. In the example shown in FIG. 7, four element rows in which three LB elements 21 are arranged along the x direction are arranged in the y direction, and four element rows in which three LB elements 21 are arranged along the y direction are arranged in the x direction. Therefore, in the illustrated configuration, twelve LB elements 21 are arranged along the x direction, and twelve LB elements 21 are arranged along the y direction. Then, two LB elements 21 arranged along the x direction and two LB elements 21 arranged along the y direction form a square region surrounded on all four sides, and the LB elements 21 are arranged so that nine 3×3 regions are arranged along the x and y directions. The size of the 3×3 region of the square region formed by the LB elements 21 is approximately equal to the size of the surface of the base 10 on which the antenna elements 20 are provided.
[0022] MB element 22 FIG. 4 is a diagram showing the configuration of one element in the MB element 22. The MB element 22 is configured by combining two elements shown in FIG. 4. The two elements are orthogonal at the center in the horizontal direction in FIG. 4 and combined to form a cross shape as a whole. The element shown in FIG. 4 is configured by providing a radiating section 22b and a power supply section 22c on a dielectric substrate 22a. The foot of the dielectric substrate 22a, which protrudes downward in FIG. 4, is attached to a reflector. The radiating section 22b and the power supply section 22c are provided on both sides of the dielectric substrate 22a. In the example shown in FIG. 4, on the surface of the dielectric substrate 22a on the near side of the paper (the surface visible in FIG. 4), the power supply section 22c rises from the foot attached to the base 10, and the radiating section 22b extends to the right of the figure. Furthermore, on the surface of dielectric substrate 22a at the rear of the page (the surface not visible in Figure 4), as shown by the dashed line, a power supply section 22c rises from the foot attached to base 10, and another radiating section 22b extends in the opposite direction to radiating section 22b on the front surface.
[0023] Here, if the frequency band supported by the MB element 22 is fc=1.799GHz, the combined length MBa of the two radiating portions 22b provided on both sides of the dielectric substrate 22a is 78mm ≒ 0.47λc. The length MBb of the power supply portion 22c is 39.5mm ≒ 0.24λc. The size of the dielectric substrate 22a on which the radiating portions 22b and the power supply portion 22c are provided is 80mm in length (horizontal direction in the figure) and 46.5(=20+26.5)mm in height (vertical direction in the figure).
[0024] Fig. 8 is a diagram showing an arrangement of MB elements 22. The MB elements 22 are configured by combining two elements as described above, and one MB element 22 constitutes two systems. In the example shown in Fig. 8, nine MB elements 22 are arranged in a 3 x 3 square (diamond shape) at an angle of 45 degrees with respect to the xy direction. Also, in the example shown in Fig. 8, these nine MB elements 22 are arranged across multiple square regions formed by the LB elements 21.
[0025] Here, in order to explain the arrangement of the MB elements 22 in more detail, the nine square regions formed on the base 10 by the LB elements 21 are distinguished as follows. Of the square regions shown in Figs. 7 and 8, the square region located on the left of the top row is called the "upper-left region". Similarly, the square region located in the center of the top row is called the "upper-middle region". The square region located on the right of the top row is called the "upper-right region". Also, the square region located on the left of the middle row is called the "middle-left region". Similarly, the square region located in the center of the middle row is called the "middle-middle region". The square region located on the right of the middle row is called the "middle-right region". Also, the square region located on the left of the bottom row is called the "lower-left region". Similarly, the square region located in the center of the bottom row is called the "lower-middle region". And the square region located on the right of the bottom row is called the "lower-right region".
[0026] If the square regions are distinguished as described above, the four MB elements 22 located at the four corners of the diamond-shaped arrangement of 3 x 3 MB elements 22 are arranged in the top-middle region, the middle-left region, the middle-right region, and the bottom-middle region, respectively. The other five MB elements 22 are arranged in the middle-middle region. Each MB element 22 is arranged so that two elements are inclined at 45 degrees with respect to the direction in which the LB elements 21 are arranged (xy direction).
[0027] HB1 element 23 FIG. 5 is a diagram showing the configuration of one element in the HB1 element 23. The HB1 element 23 is configured by combining two elements shown in FIG. 5. The two elements are orthogonal to each other at the center in the horizontal direction in FIG. 5, and are combined to form a cross shape as a whole. The element shown in FIG. 5 is configured by providing a radiating portion 23b and a power supply portion 23c on a dielectric substrate 23a. The foot portion of the dielectric substrate 23a that protrudes downward in FIG. 5 is attached to a reflector. The radiating portion 23b and the power supply portion 23c are provided on both sides of the dielectric substrate 23a. In the example shown in FIG. 5, on the surface of the dielectric substrate 23a on the near side of the paper (the surface visible in FIG. 5), the power supply portion 23c rises from the foot portion attached to the base 10, and the radiating portion 23b extends to the right of the figure. Furthermore, on the surface of dielectric substrate 23a at the rear of the page (the surface not visible in Figure 5), as shown by the dashed line, power supply section 23c rises from the foot attached to base 10, and another radiating section 23b extends in the opposite direction to radiating section 23b on the front surface.
[0028] Here, if the frequency band supported by the HB1 element 23 is fc=2.95GHz, the combined length HB1a of the two radiating portions 23b provided on both sides of the dielectric substrate 23a is 61.2mm≒0.60λc. The length HB1b of the power feeding portion 23c is 27.4mm≒0.27λc. The size of the dielectric substrate 23a on which the radiating portions 23b and the power feeding portion 23c are provided is 62.2mm in length (horizontal direction in the figure) and 36(=19.5+16.5)mm in height (vertical direction in the figure).
[0029] Fig. 9 is a diagram showing an arrangement of the HB1 elements 23. The HB1 elements 23 are configured by combining two elements as described above, and one HB1 element 23 constitutes two systems. In the example shown in Fig. 9, nine HB1 elements 23 are arranged in a 3 x 3 square along the x and y directions. Also, in the example shown in Fig. 9, the nine HB1 elements 23 are arranged so as to fit within one square region formed by the LB elements 21 (in the illustrated example, the bottom-left region in the division of the above-mentioned square regions).
[0030] Here, each HB1 element 23 is arranged so that two elements are inclined at 45 degrees with respect to the direction in which the LB elements 21 are arranged (xy direction). As described above, the length of the dielectric substrate 23a constituting one element in the LB element 21 is 62.2 mm. Therefore, when three HB1 elements 23 are arranged side by side so that each element is aligned along the xy direction, the length in the x direction and the y direction is 186.6 mm. This is larger than the length of the LB element 21, 172 mm. In contrast, by inclining each element 45 degrees with respect to the xy direction, the size of the HB1 element 23 in the x direction and the y direction is about 44 (= 62.2 / √ 2) mm. Therefore, the length of three HB1 elements 23 arranged in the x direction and the y direction is about 132 mm, which is smaller than the length of the LB element 21, 172 mm. Therefore, the arrangement of the HB1 elements 23 fits within one square area formed by the LB elements 21.
[0031] 2, the HB1 elements 23 are arranged in two sets at two diagonal locations (the lower-left region and the upper-right region in the example shown in FIG. 2) in the square region formed by the LB elements 21. Therefore, the HB1 elements 23 are arranged in two sets of two systems, totaling four systems. The HB1 elements 23 are smaller in size than the LB elements 21 and the MB elements 22, so the number of systems is increased.
[0032] HB2 element 24 FIG. 6 is a diagram showing the configuration of one element in the HB2 element 24. The HB2 element 24 is configured by combining two elements shown in FIG. 6. The two elements are orthogonal to each other at the center in the horizontal direction in FIG. 6, and are combined to form a cross shape as a whole. The element shown in FIG. 6 is configured by providing a radiating portion 24b and a power supply portion 24c on a dielectric substrate 24a. The foot portion of the dielectric substrate 24a that protrudes downward in FIG. 6 is attached to a reflector. The radiating portion 24b and the power supply portion 24c are provided on both sides of the dielectric substrate 24a. In the example shown in FIG. 6, on the surface of the dielectric substrate 24a on the near side of the paper (the surface visible in FIG. 6), the power supply portion 24c rises from the foot portion attached to the base 10, and the radiating portion 24b extends to the right of the figure. Furthermore, on the surface of the dielectric substrate 24a at the rear of the page (the surface not visible in Figure 6), as shown by the dashed line, a power supply section 24c rises from the foot attached to the base 10, and another radiating section 24b extends in the opposite direction to the radiating section 24b on the front surface.
[0033] Here, if the frequency band supported by the HB2 element 24 is fc=4.2GHz, the combined length HB2a of the two radiating portions 24b provided on both sides of the dielectric substrate 24a is 42mm≒0.59λc. The length HB2b of the power feed portion 24c is 22mm≒0.31λc. The size of the dielectric substrate 24a on which the radiating portion 24b and the power feed portion 24c are provided is 43mm in length (horizontal direction in the figure) and 27.5(=16.5+11)mm in height (vertical direction in the figure).
[0034] Fig. 10 is a diagram showing an arrangement of the HB2 elements 24. The HB2 elements 24 are configured by combining two elements as described above, and one HB2 element 24 constitutes two systems. In the example shown in Fig. 10, ten HB2 elements 24 are arranged in a 3 x 3 square along the x and y directions. Also, in the example shown in Fig. 10, the ten HB2 elements 24 are arranged so as to fit within one square region formed by the LB elements 21 (in the illustrated example, the upper-left region in the division of the above-mentioned square regions).
[0035] Here, each of the HB2 elements 24 is arranged so that two elements are tilted at 45 degrees with respect to the direction (xy direction) in which the LB elements 21 are arranged. Since the HB2 elements 24 are smaller in size than the HB1 elements 23, even if three HB2 elements 24 are arranged with each element aligned along the xy direction, the length does not exceed the length of the LB element 21. However, in this embodiment, the HB2 elements 24 are also arranged with each element tilted, thereby narrowing the interval between the HB2 elements 24 in the array.
[0036] 2, the HB2 elements 24 are arranged in two sets at two diagonal locations (the upper-left region and the lower-right region in the example shown in FIG. 2) in the square region formed by the LB elements 21. Therefore, the HB2 elements 24 are arranged in two sets of two systems, totaling four systems. The HB2 elements 24 are smaller in size than the LB elements 21 and the MB elements 22, so the number of systems is increased.
[0037] By arranging the antenna elements 20 as described above, one set of LB elements 21, one set of MB elements 22, two sets of HB1 elements 23, and two sets of HB2 elements 24 are all arranged within a 3×3 area of the square area defined by the LB elements 21. This results in the smallest size possible for an antenna device 100 in which the same number of antenna elements 20 are arranged without overlapping each other.
[0038] Further, the two sets of HB1 elements 23 and HB2 elements 24 are disposed so as to be located diagonally in the 3×3 square region of the LB elements 21. Therefore, the two sets of HB1 elements 23 are disposed so that the distance between them is the furthest position within the 3×3 square region of the LB elements 21. Similarly, the two sets of HB2 elements 24 are disposed so that the distance between them is the furthest position within the 3×3 square region of the LB elements 21. Therefore, compared to a case where the two sets of HB1 elements 23 and the two sets of HB2 elements 24 are disposed close to each other, mutual interference between the respective arrays is suppressed.
[0039] <Antenna element characteristics> Fig. 11 is a diagram showing the directivity pattern of the LB element 21. Fig. 11(A) is a diagram showing the electric field in-plane directivity, and Fig. 11(B) is a diagram showing the magnetic field in-plane directivity. In the example shown in Fig. 11, both side lobes are sufficiently small, and the spread of the main lobe is about 30 degrees, showing good directivity characteristics.
[0040] Fig. 12 is a diagram showing the directivity pattern of the MB element 22. Fig. 12(A) is a diagram showing the directivity in the vertical plane, and Fig. 12(B) is a diagram showing the directivity in the horizontal plane. Since the MB element 22 has two orthogonal elements arranged with a 45 degree inclination, the polarization plane of both the vertical plane directivity and the horizontal plane directivity is -45 degrees. In the example shown in Fig. 12, both side lobes are sufficiently small, and the spread of the main lobe is about 30 degrees, showing good directivity characteristics.
[0041] Fig. 13 is a diagram showing the directivity pattern of the HB1 element 23. Fig. 13(A) shows the directivity in the vertical plane, and Fig. 13(B) shows the directivity in the horizontal plane. The HB1 element 23 has two orthogonal elements arranged with an inclination of 45 degrees, so the polarization plane of both the vertical and horizontal directivities is -45 degrees. In the example shown in Fig. 13, both side lobes are sufficiently small, and the spread of the main lobe is about 30 degrees, showing good directivity characteristics.
[0042] Fig. 14 is a diagram showing the directivity pattern of the HB2 element 24. Fig. 14(A) shows the directivity in the vertical plane, and Fig. 14(B) shows the directivity in the horizontal plane. The HB2 element 24 has two orthogonal elements arranged with an inclination of 45 degrees, so the polarization plane of both the directivity in the vertical plane and the directivity in the horizontal plane is -45 degrees. In the example shown in Fig. 14, both side lobes are sufficiently small, and the spread of the main lobe is about 30 degrees, showing good directivity characteristics.
[0043] <Modification> In the above embodiment, the arrangement of the antenna elements 20 for each frequency band is 3×4 for the LB elements 21, and 3×3 for the MB elements 22, HB1 elements 23, and HB2 elements 24, but the number of each antenna element 20 is not limited to the number in the above embodiment. The antenna device 100 of this embodiment may be arranged such that the antenna elements 20 are arranged as follows.
[0044] First, the LB elements 21 are arranged so as to line up a square area formed by arranging two sets of two antenna elements, each having a radiation portion in two orthogonal directions, on all four sides. Then, the MB elements 22 are arranged across a plurality of square areas, including a square area located at the center of the arrangement of the square areas formed by the LB elements 21. Then, the HB1 elements 23 and the HB2 elements 24 are arranged in one or a plurality of square areas, including a square area located at a corner of the arrangement of the square areas formed by the LB elements 21. When two sets of arrays are arranged for the HB1 elements 23 and the HB2 elements 24, they are arranged in two locations located diagonally opposite each other.
[0045] Fig. 15 is a diagram showing a modified example of the arrangement of antenna elements 20 according to this embodiment. In the example shown in Fig. 15, MB elements 22 are indicated by crosses "x", HB1 elements 23 by diamonds "◇", and HB2 elements 24 by circles "○". The number of antenna elements 20 shown in Fig. 15 is 5 x 6 LB elements 21 per system, 5 x 5 MB elements 22 and HB1 elements 23 per system, and 6 x 6 HB2 elements 24 per system.
[0046] 15, the LB elements 21 are arranged in six element rows in the y direction, each row having five LB elements 21 aligned along the x direction, and six element rows in the x direction, each row having five LB elements 21 aligned along the y direction. The LB elements 21 are arranged so that a square region surrounded on all four sides by two LB elements 21 aligned along the x direction and two LB elements 21 aligned along the y direction is formed, and the LB elements 21 are arranged so that 25 of these square regions are aligned in a 5×5 arrangement along the x and y directions.
[0047] The MB elements 22 are arranged in a 5×5 square (diamond shape) tilted at 45 degrees with respect to the xy direction. In the example shown in Fig. 15, the 25 MB elements 22 are arranged across a plurality of square regions formed by the LB elements 21.
