Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a lubricating oil composition, a turbocharged diesel engine to which said lubricating oil composition is applied, and a method of using said lubricating oil composition. [Background technology]
[0002] The turbocharger of a turbocharged diesel engine becomes hot and has a structure that easily sucks in misted engine oil. Therefore, the mist floating around the turbocharger is likely to form around the turbocharger as deposits. The larger the engine displacement, the hotter the turbocharger becomes and the more misted engine oil it takes in, so the more deposits tend to form. The formed deposits can cause problems such as reducing the efficiency of the turbocharger.
[0003] In order to address this problem, various studies have been conducted on methods for suppressing the formation of deposits. For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a lubricating oil composition containing 14 mass% or more of a fraction having a boiling point of 500 to 550°C and 5 mass% or more of a fraction having a boiling point exceeding 550°C, for the purpose of providing a lubricating oil composition with improved performance in suppressing deposit formation. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0009] In this specification, the kinematic viscosity and viscosity index refer to values measured or calculated in accordance with JIS K2283:2000. In this specification, the weight average molecular weight (Mw) and the number average molecular weight (Mn) are values calculated as standard polystyrene measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and specifically, they mean values measured by the method described in the Examples. In this specification, the contents of metal atoms (alkali metal atoms, alkaline earth metal atoms, zinc atoms, etc.), phosphorus atoms, and boron atoms refer to values measured in accordance with JPI-5S-38-2003, and the content of nitrogen atoms refers to a value measured in accordance with JIS K2609.
[0010] [Constitution of lubricating oil composition] The lubricating oil composition of the present invention contains a base oil (A), a non-boron-modified succinimide (B), a boron-modified succinimide (C), a metal-based detergent (D), and an antioxidant (E), and is prepared so that the content ratio [B / N] of boron atoms derived from component (C) to nitrogen atoms derived from components (B) and (C) is 0.30 or less in mass ratio. The blending amounts of the viscosity index improvers shown in Tables 1 and 2 are the blending amounts calculated as active ingredients (solids content) excluding the mass of the diluent oil, even if the viscosity index improvers were blended in a dissolved state in the diluent oil. Details of the base oil and various additives used in the preparation of each lubricating oil composition are as follows:

[0118] <Other additives> Additive Blend: A blend of additives including pour point depressants, and antifoam agents along with friction modifiers and metal deactivators.
[0119] The lubricating oil compositions thus prepared were subjected to measurement or calculation of the 40° C. kinematic viscosity, 100° C. kinematic viscosity, viscosity index, acid number, and base number according to the above-mentioned methods, and were also subjected to the following evaluations. The results are shown in Tables 1 and 2.
[0120] (1) Hot tube test The prepared lubricating oil composition was subjected to a hot tube test in accordance with JPI-5S-55-99. Specifically, the prepared lubricating oil composition was passed through a glass tube having an inner diameter of 2 mm, the mass of which had been measured in advance, at a flow rate of 0.3 mL / hour and air at a flow rate of 10 mL / min for 16 hours while the temperature of the glass tube was kept at 300°C. The mass of the glass tube after the test was measured, and the difference from the mass of the glass tube before the test was calculated as the amount of deposit (unit: mg) attached to the glass tube. It can be said that the lubricating oil composition with a smaller amount of deposit has a higher effect of suppressing the formation of deposits.
[0121] (2) Panel caulking test In accordance with Fed. Test Method Std. 791-3462, the prepared lubricating oil composition was continuously sprayed onto a panel using a panel coking tester under conditions of a panel temperature of 350°C, an oil temperature of 100°C, a splash time of 3 hours, and no downtime. After the test, the weight of the panel was measured, and the amount of coking adhered to the panel was measured from the difference with the panel weight before the test. It can be said that the lower the amount of coking, the higher the effect of suppressing deposit formation.
[0122] [Table 1]
[0123] [Table 2]
[0124] From Tables 1 and 2, it can be seen that the lubricating oil compositions prepared in Examples 1 to 8 had smaller amounts of deposits in the hot tube test and smaller amounts of coking in the panel coking test, and thus had a higher effect of inhibiting deposit formation, compared to the lubricating oil compositions in Comparative Examples 1 to 3. On the other hand, the lubricating oil compositions prepared in Comparative Examples 1 to 3 had larger amounts of deposits in the hot tube test and / or larger amounts of coking in the panel coking test, indicating that there is room for improvement in the effect of inhibiting deposit formation.
