Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The invention relates to a pallet container for the storage and transport of liquid or flowable fillings, which comprises a thin-walled, rigid inner container made of thermoplastic plastic, a tube grid frame made of horizontal and vertical tube rods welded to one another and tightly surrounding the plastic inner container as a supporting cover, and a bottom pallet on which the plastic inner container rests and to which the tube grid frame is rigidly connected, in which two rod-shaped cross members are provided on the upper side of the plastic inner container, which are attached at their both ends to two opposite side walls in the upper region of the tube grid frame. The rod-shaped cross members should prevent the plastic inner container or its upper surface with a central screw cap from swelling excessively, in particular during transport vibrations and dynamic vibrations, and should in particular also serve to hold the plastic inner container in the tube grid frame on the bottom pallet and to prevent it from sliding out of the tube grid frame in the event of undesired tilting of the pallet container. In order to allow the plastic inner container to be easily replaced for multiple uses of the pallet container, both ends of the cross member are removably attached to the upper area of the tube grid frame and are usually screwed in. A pallet container of this type with two parallel running cross members is known, for example, from WO 2012 / 085940. In the pallet container described in DE 44 25 630 A4, four identical cross members are provided, with each two cross members crossing each other diagonally covering one half of the plastic inner container.
[0002] Problem: If the pallet container is to be used for storing and transporting dangerous liquid contents, such as aggressive chemicals, then such a pallet container needs a so-called dangerous goods approval from an official national inspection body, in Germany this body is the BAM (Federal Institute for Materials Testing). To obtain such dangerous goods approval, the various types of pallet containers are subjected to special structural tests with various load conditions, such as internal pressure tests, drop tests and vibration tests. In the vibration tests, significant transport loads (crashes, vibrations) are simulated for the filled pallet container. In this case, the liquid column in the plastic inner container can vibrate very dynamically. These vibrations generate significant alternating loads on the side walls of the plastic inner container, which are directly transmitted to the tube grid frame that tightly surrounds the plastic inner container as a supporting cover. Since the pallet container usually has two long and two short side walls, the longer side walls facing each other are subjected to higher loads and are therefore stabilized by engaging cross members. Similarly, the top surface of the plastic inner container vibrates back and forth up and down very dynamically, which acts on the cross members. If the top surface bulges upwards, the known parallel straight cross members are pushed upwards and both attachment points of the cross members on the tube grid frame between the opposing side walls of the tube grid frame are subjected to significant tensile loads, which pull the upper region of the tube grid frame inwards. If the top surface sinks, the opposing side walls of the plastic inner container and of the tube grid frame bulge outwards, which also pushes the upper region of the tube grid frame outwards. The cross members are then again subjected to significant tensile loads at both attachment points. Such alternating loads are repeated frequently over a relatively long period of time and have a fatigue effect on the corresponding components of the pallet container.
[0003] assignment: The object of the present invention is to avoid such undesirable tensile loads and to absorb their effect on the mounting points of the cross members and on the corresponding upper regions of the tube grid frame, thereby reducing stress peaks.
[0004] Solution: Due to the fact that the two rod-shaped cross members are designed as elastic spring elements, undesirable tensile loads can be intentionally reduced. By designing the two cross members elastically as spring elements, the rigid connection between the opposing side walls of the tube grid frame and the cross members, which up to now have been normally linear and straight, is eliminated and a limited elasticity is "built in" in the plane of the upper part of the tube grid frame. When the upper surface bulges upwards, the tensile forces occurring at the two attachment points of the cross members are relieved and the upper area of the tube grid frame is pulled less inwards. When the plastic inner container bulges to the side and, therefore, when the opposing side walls of the tube grid frame bulge outwards, the tensile forces occurring in the upper area of the tube grid frame are significantly relieved by the cross members designed as elastic spring elements, which significantly increases the operational safety of the filled pallet container when subjected to dynamic transport loads.
[0005] According to the invention, it is provided that the cross members formed as elastic spring elements are not shaped so as to extend linearly, but each have one or more arc-shaped sections, in which case the actual length of the cross member between the two attachment points is designed to be greater than the direct distance between the two attachment points at the ends of the cross member in the region of the upper part of the tube grid frame. This structural design allows the cross members to bend in the horizontal longitudinal direction under tensile loads, when the tube grid frame bulges outwards, and to bend vertically under lateral compressive loads, when the upper surface of the plastic inner container bulges upwards.
[0006] In the design according to the invention, this is achieved in that the cross member is configured to extend between the two attachment points in an arc rather than in a straight line and has a relatively large curvature.
[0007] The configuration of the two cross members as elastic spring elements is achieved in a preferred configuration by a circular-arc-curved shape with a large shaped curvature, whereby - viewed in the assembled state - the cross members are curved in a horizontal plane, the curvatures each having a relatively large radius and directed outwards towards the two opposing short side walls of the tube grid frame, so that in the assembled state the circular-arc-curved cross members rest flat on the upper surface of the plastic inner container, with the curvatures of the two cross members directed away from each other.
[0008] Advantageously, the two cross members are guided by a respective retaining device in the form of a closed retaining ring, which is molded externally from the upper surface of the plastic inner container. In a variant, the retaining device molded externally from the upper surface of the plastic inner container can also be designed as a support pin that is open on one side. Such a support pin that is open on one side is also called a hook ring in the following.
[0009] The closed retaining ring or the support pin, open on one side, is arranged to the side of a central filling opening of the plastic inner container, which can be closed by a screw cap, and the middle of the curvature of both cross members is located exactly below the retaining ring or below the support pin. On the one hand, the cross member, which has a curved shape like an arc, can elastically bend vertically when the top surface bulges upwards and downwards - for example also during an internal pressure test or a drop test - and can actually "follow" the shape of the top surface.
[0010] In a further embodiment of the invention, the cross member can be designed as an elastic spring element having two or three small bends with relatively small radii.
[0011] The attachment points of the curved arc cross members - compared to conventional straight cross members - have been moved further towards the middle of the upper area of the tube lattice frame, which is where the greatest bulge will occur under the greatest tensile loads and should be accommodated.
[0012] In vibration tests, the cross-members bent in the shape of a circular arc act like elastic springs. During vibration, the top surface of the inner container vibrates up and down. This vibration causes the previously normally straight cross-members to bend elastically upwards and downwards at their upper and lower end points, which is directly translated into a shortening of the distance between the attachment points. Due to this shortening of the distance, the tube grid frame is pulled significantly inwards with each stroke in the upper region. In contrast, the new "spring means", which also flex in the longitudinal direction, results in a significantly reduced deformation at the upper edge of the tube grid frame and thus a reduced load on the pallet container.
[0013] In order to obtain an optimal elasticity and spring action of the cross member, it is envisaged that the length of the cross member corresponding to the line of curvature between the two attachment points is made 1% to 5% greater than the direct distance between the two attachment points (corresponding to the chord of a circle), so that the magnitude of curvature and the arc-shaped curved shape of the cross member are realized as an elastic spring element.
[0014] In a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is provided that the cross member has two ends which are radially pressed in significantly and directly provided with a corresponding internal thread, for example M8, and that the two ends are firmly screwed at their end sides to the horizontal or vertical tube rods of the tube grid frame. With regard to this configuration, it is provided that the two ends of the cross member are screwed at their end sides to the upper ends of two adjacent vertical tube rods.
[0015] In a further embodiment of the invention, it is provided that a threaded nut with an internal thread is firmly fastened to each of the two ends of the cross member at the end side, and that the cross member is firmly screwed at each end side - in the so-called axial direction - to a horizontal or vertical tube rod of the tube grid frame. In this case, the threaded nut, which is firmly and non-detachably fastened in the cross member designed as a hollow tube profile, can be simply pressed, crushed or welded.
[0016] The present invention will be explained in detail below on the basis of the illustrated embodiment. [Brief description of the drawings]

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0018] In Fig. 1, a pallet container 10 according to the invention (also called "IBC" = Intermediate Bulk Container) for the storage and transport of liquid or flowable materials is shown. The pallet container 10 has a thin-walled, rigid plastic inner container 12 made of thermoplastic plastic, a tube grid frame 14 which consists of horizontal tube rods 18 and vertical tube rods 20 welded together and which tightly surrounds the plastic inner container 12 as a supporting cover, and a bottom pallet 16 on which the plastic inner container 12 rests and to which the tube grid frame 14 is rigidly connected. On the upper side of the plastic inner container 12, two rod-shaped cross members 22 are provided which are attached at their both ends to two opposite side walls of the upper tube grid frame 14. The two cross members 22 are in this case formed as elastic spring elements 24 with a curved arc shape. The special structural configuration of the cross member 22 is characterized in that between its two attachment points 26, 28, the cross member is not formed straight or linear, but is formed in the shape of a circular arc, with a relatively large curvature 34. In this case, the length of the cross member 22 between the two attachment points 26, 28 is formed in a completely unusual way larger than the direct distance between the two attachment points 26, 28 at the ends of the cross member 22. In such an embodiment, the attachment points 26, 28 at the ends of the cross member 22 are respectively arranged on two vertical rods immediately below the uppermost horizontal tube rod 18 which runs around the entire circumference between the two opposite side walls of the tube grid frame 14.
[0019] In a concrete case, the length of the cross member 22 between the two attachment points 26, 28 is made 1% to 5%, preferably 3% larger than the direct distance between the two attachment points 26, 28. In a standard pallet container with a filling volume of 600 liters, 1000 liters or 1200 liters having the same width and length dimensions, the distance between the two attachment points 26, 28 is about 960 mm and the effective length of the cross member 22 is about 993 mm. In the same standard pallet container, the cross member 22 made in an arc shape preferably has a large arc radius of 300 mm to 700 mm, preferably 500 mm.
[0020] The above-mentioned structural arrangement of the present invention is shown in detail in the enlarged partial view of Figure 2. In this view, it is clear that the arcuately curved cross members 22 - in the assembled state - rest flat in a horizontal plane on the upper surface 38 of the plastic inner container 12, with the major curvatures 34 of both cross members 22 oriented so as to point away from each other.
[0021] In another embodiment, it may be envisaged that the cross member 22 is formed as an elastic spring element with two or three small curvatures of relatively small radii oriented in a horizontal plane.
[0022] In each case, the arcuate cross members 22 are guided - when assembled - by respective retaining rings 40 molded outwardly from the top surface 38 of the plastic inner container 12, the retaining rings 40 being positioned to engage the middle of the assembled arcuate cross members 22 (an alternative form of retaining ring is shown in FIG. 9).
[0023] FIG. 3 shows a plan view of the arc-shaped cross member 22 formed as a spring element with a large arc radius of about 500 mm. The cross member may be formed as a hollow tube with a circular or rectangular cross section. In a preferred embodiment, the cross member 22, 42 has a circular tube profile with a diameter of 16 mm to 24 mm, preferably 20 mm, and a wall thickness of 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm, preferably 0.9 mm. However, according to another design form, the cross member 22, 42 may also have a rectangular tube profile with a side length of 14 mm to 20 mm, preferably 16 mm, and a wall thickness of 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm, preferably 0.9 mm.
[0024] In Fig. 4, a side view of another embodiment of a two-curved cross member 42 is shown, which in its end region each has - seen in the assembled state - a downwardly shaped, relatively small radius small curvature 36 with an upwardly facing end, which is screwed at the end side from below to the uppermost horizontal tube rod 18 extending all around (as shown in detail in Fig. 8). The end with the downwardly shaped small radius small curvature 36 of the two-curved cross member 42 is shown in Fig. 5 in a partially enlarged view. In the open end of the hollow tube profile of the two-curved cross member 42, a respective threaded nut 30 with an internal thread 44 (for example M8 or M10) is firmly fitted (see also Fig. 7). The threaded nut 30, which is permanently fitted, can simply be press-fitted, crushed or welded.
[0025] 6 shows a mounting possibility in which a screw 48 is screwed into each end of the hollow tube profile of the cross member 22 on the end side. In this case, the cross member 22 is fixed to the flattened, compressed upper ends of two opposite vertical tube rods 20 by means of screws 48 which are screwed - horizontally - from the outside on the end side, just below the top horizontal tube rod 18.
[0026] 7 shows in a corresponding manner the open end of the hollow tube profile of the cross member 22 (with only one major curvature) with the firmly mounted screw nut 30 with the internal thread 44. The cross member 42 with two curvatures is, as described above, firmly but again removably screwed from below on the end side to the uppermost horizontal tube rod 18 of the tube lattice frame, which runs all around.
[0027] Another mounting possibility for the screw fastening on the end side of the two-curved cross member 42 is shown in the enlarged view of FIG. 8. In this case, both ends of the two-curved cross member 42 are pressed in significantly in the radial direction, and a corresponding internal thread 46 is molded directly into the press-in 32. The two-curved cross member 42, which has a small curvature in the end region, is in this case fixed on the end side by a screw 48 which is screwed in from above - vertically - from below into the uppermost horizontal tube rod 18. Advantageously, the uppermost horizontal tube rod 18 is slightly recessed above the threaded hole, and the screw 48 is designed as a flat, countersunk or rounded screw, so that it does not protrude upwards. The press-in 32 with the corresponding internally molded internal thread 46 can of course also be formed in the cross member 22 (with only one large curvature). The end screw fastening further has the advantage that the screw tip is completely fitted and covered within the hollow tube profile of the cross member 22, 42, so that injuries, which have frequently occurred up until now with open screw fastenings which usually have protruding screw tips, can no longer occur.
[0028] Conventional cross members, which are normally straight, can only be insufficiently fixed on the end faces directly at the central axis with screws. When tightening the screws, the cross members rotate together and must be fixed for installation. Such fixing is omitted with cross members curved in an arc.
[0029] As mentioned above, the arcuate cross members 22 are - in the assembled state - guided by respective retaining rings 40 which are molded externally from the upper surface 38 of the plastic inner container 12. In an alternative embodiment, the retaining rings 40 may be formed as open-sided support pins 50 (also called hook rings), as shown in Fig. 9. In this case, the arcuate cross members 22 are engaged and fixed in the middle by the support pins 50 which are made solid by thickening the material from the outside to the inside.
[0030] Depending on the various configurations of the cross-members 22, 42, both ends of the cross-members 22, 42 can be fixed in various ways to the upper tube lattice frame 14. In addition to the described end fixing, the ends 52 of the cross-members 22, 42 can also be - in a manner known per se - flattened, placed around the uppermost horizontal rod of the tube lattice frame 14 and screwed by means of screws 54 below the uppermost horizontal tube rod 18, as shown in FIG.
[0031] In the combined form, the cross members 22, 42 may be formed as elastic spring elements having two small curvatures with relatively small radii oriented in a vertical plane and one, two or three small curvatures with relatively small radii oriented in a horizontal plane. Such a type of shaping may be important for a torque-neutral configuration. The above-mentioned configurations of the cross members and the mounting possibilities can be easily combined with one another or exchanged within the scope of the present invention - if technically possible.
[0032] Summary: By configuring the cross members 22, 42 as elastic spring elements according to the invention, in the pallet container 10, the upper area of the tube grid frame 14 can be protected in a relatively simple manner against adverse effects such as transport vibrations and dynamic collision loads, thereby increasing the operational safety when handling filled pallet containers.
