Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a surface-treated pigment obtained by coating the pigment surface with at least one dextrin fatty acid ester and at least one silicone acrylate copolymer, and to a cosmetic composition containing the surface-treated pigment, which has improved stability properties in terms of color and brightness over time. [Background technology]
[0002] Make-up foundations are used in the cosmetic field to provide a uniform and stable skin tone, especially in terms of color and brightness, over a long period of time.
[0003] Most of these cosmetic formulations contain pigments to provide desired visual properties such as opacity and color and / or special effects such as pearlescence and iridescence.
[0004] However, makeup foundations, especially fluid foundations, often suffer from color changes over time, such as turning to a darker or reddish shade upon application and drying on the skin, mostly due to evaporation of the liquid phase (water and volatile oils). These color changes and makeup transfer are disappointing to consumers who want to obtain a uniform and stable shade on the skin over a long period of time.
[0005] It is therefore important that the color of the composition remain stable, i.e., do not fade, discolor, migrate or change, once applied to the skin.
[0006] One major cause of the evolution of color in a composition when applied to the skin is the color difference between the pigments when dispersed in a wet formulation compared to their dry form.
[0007] In the past, efforts to improve the color stability of pigments have included surface treatment of pigments and powders. Therefore, over the years, many compositions and methods for surface treatment of cosmetic powders, especially pigments, have been developed to overcome the stability problems.Previously, various hydrophobic pigment coatings have been developed with oil, such as OTS (octadecyltrichlorosilane) coating, NAI (disodium stearoyl glutamate) coating, ASI (combination of isopropyl titanium triisostearate (ITT) and sodium lauroyl aspartate) coating, ASL (sodium lauroyl glutamate ridine, magnesium chloride) coating, PF (perfluoroalkyl phosphate) coating, FHS (perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane) coating, to avoid higher dispersibility in oil phase and wetting of pigments.
[0008] More recently, surface treatments with dextrin fatty acid esters have been described to provide surface-treated pigments with good dispersibility and adhesion to the skin and with excellent makeup-lasting ability, such as in the document JP Patent No. 5695331. However, these surface-treated pigments did not provide sufficiently good results in terms of shade and color stability over time of the applied makeup. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

[0010] [Non-Patent Document 1] Definition from the Ullmann Encyclopedia chapter on inorganic pigments [Non-Patent Document 2] International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary and Handbook, published by the Personal Care Products Council, 16h edition, 2016 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0011] The present invention has been made in consideration of the above problems, and the object of the present invention is to provide cosmetic pigments having improved stability properties in terms of color and brightness over time, processes for their preparation, and cosmetic compositions containing such surface-treated pigments, such that the compositions exhibit improved stability of their color and shade over time. [Means for solving the problem]
[0012] The present inventors have carried out thorough research to solve the above-mentioned problems. As a result, the present inventors have found that a solution allows the pigment to be reliably wetted with a specific oil through a first coating, and the wet pigment to be reliably captured through another specific second coating. Therefore, the present invention relates to a treated pigment obtained by surface-treating the pigment with a dextrin fatty acid ester and a silicone acrylate copolymer.
[0013] Without wishing to be bound by any theory, it is believed that the pigment according to the present invention is wetted by the dextrin fatty acid ester; therefore, the oil is adsorbed around the pigment. Since the surface of the pigment is also treated with a silicone acrylate copolymer, the silicone acrylate copolymer prevents the elution of the dextrin fatty acid ester. Thus, the oil is held around the pigment, keeping it wet for a long period of time.
[0014] Therefore, the present invention provides a surface-treated pigment having improved stability characteristics in terms of color and brightness over time, and a cosmetic composition containing the surface-treated pigment. The cosmetic composition according to the present invention maintains stability in terms of color and does not fade, discolor, migrate, or change.
[0015] Thus, in a first aspect, the present invention relates to a surface treated pigment, wherein the surface treatment comprises at least one dextrin fatty acid ester and at least one silicone acrylate copolymer.
[0016] In a second aspect, the present invention provides a method for providing a surface treated pigment according to the present invention, comprising the steps of: - dissolving a dextrin fatty acid ester and a silicone acrylate copolymer in a solvent to form a slurry; - adding and mixing the slurry to the pigment under agitation; - removing the solvent; - grinding and drying the pigment to obtain the surface-treated pigment; The present invention relates to a method comprising the steps of:
[0017] Advantageously, the surface-treated pigments have improved color and brightness properties, such that the surface-treated pigments, as well as cosmetic compositions containing them, remain color stable and do not fade, discolor, migrate or change.
[0018] Thus, in a third aspect, the present invention relates to a cosmetic composition comprising a surface treated pigment, characterized in that the surface treatment comprises at least one dextrin fatty acid ester and at least one silicone acrylate copolymer, and a cosmetically acceptable medium.
[0019] In a fourth aspect, the present invention relates to the use of a surface treated pigment according to the invention for improving the color and brightness stability of makeup. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0117] use Advantageously, the surface-treated pigments have improved stability of their color and shade over time, such that cosmetic compositions containing them remain color stable and do not fade, discolor, migrate or change.
[0118] The present invention therefore also relates in a fourth aspect to the use of a surface treated pigment according to the invention for improving the colour and brightness stability of make-up.
[0119] The surface treated pigment is a surface treated pigment as described above. All of the above embodiments are encompassed by this aspect.
[0120] Colorimetric measurement (L*a*b system) Color and brightness properties were evaluated using colorimetry (L*a*b* system).
[0121] The color difference between the dry and wet states was evaluated. The total color change (ΔE) was obtained by this formula:
[0122]
number
[0123] The higher the ΔE value, the greater the color change.
[0124] The ΔE values obtained with the surface-treated pigments according to the invention are lower than those obtained with surface treatments according to the state of the art.
[0125] Advantageously, the treatment according to the invention allows for the production of surface-treated pigments with improved stability properties in terms of color and brightness over time, and thus the cosmetic composition according to the invention remains stable in terms of color and does not fade, discolor, migrate or change.
[0126] Thus, the surface-treated pigments improve the color and brightness stability of the makeup.
[0127] As used herein, makeup with improved color stability and brightness properties refers to makeup with a smaller ΔE; it is understood that the range of ΔE depends on the color of the pigment itself.
[0128] The present invention is further illustrated by the following examples, which should not be construed in any way as limiting the scope of the invention. EXAMPLES
[0129] Materials and Methods Dextrin Isostearate The dextrin isostearate used is manufactured by Chiba Flour Milling Co., Ltd. under the trade name UNIFILMA HVY.
[0130] Pigments The iron oxide used is manufactured by TITANIUM INDUSTRY CO., LTD, such as TAROXR-516HP or TAROXL-100HP.
[0131] Colorimetric measurement (L*a*b* system) Colorimetric measurements were performed using a spectrophotometer (CM-2600d manufactured by Konica Minolta, Inc.).
[0132] The color change (ΔE) was given by the following formula:
[0133]
number
[0134] L* indicates lightness, a* is the red / green coordinate, and b* is the yellow / blue coordinate.
[0135] The deltas of L* (ΔL*), a* (Δa*), and b* (Δb*) may be positive (+) or negative (-), but the overall difference, delta E (ΔE*), is always positive.
[0136] ΔL*(L2*sample minus L1*standard) = difference between lightness and darkness (+=lighter, -=darker)
[0137] Δa*(a2*sample minus a1*standard) = difference between red and green (+=more red, -=more green)
[0138] Δb*(b2*sample minus b1*standard) = difference between yellow and blue (+=more yellow, -=more blue)
[0139] Example 1 Preparation of surface-treated pigments according to the present invention In this example, the pigment was treated with acrylates / dimethicone copolymer and dextrin isostearate.
[0140] A. Treatment of Red Iron Oxide with Acrylates / Dimethicone Copolymer and Dextrin Isostearate Red iron oxide (TAROXR-516HP: manufactured by Titanium Industry Co., Ltd.) was treated with 5% acrylates / dimethicone copolymer and 10% dextrin isostearate.
[0141] The treatment method was as follows:
[0142] 8.3 pts.wt. (parts by weight) of acrylates / dimethicone copolymer (product with 60% active ingredient) and 10 pts.wt. of dextrin isostearate were dissolved in 16.5 pts.wt. of hexane (solvent), and added to 85 pts.wt. of pigment while stirring and mixing in a Henschel mixer. After stirring and mixing, the hexane was removed and dried, the pigment was crushed in a grinder, and then finally, they were heat-treated to obtain the surface-treated pigment.
[0143] B. Treatment of Yellow Iron Oxide with Acrylates / Dimethicone Copolymer and Dextrin Isostearate Yellow iron oxide (TAROXLL-100HP: manufactured by Titanium Industry Co., Ltd.) was treated with 7% acrylates / dimethicone copolymer and 10% dextrin isostearate.

[0148] A. Coating of red iron oxide with dextrin isostearate Red iron oxide (TAROXR-516HP: manufactured by Titanium Industry Co., Ltd.) was treated with 10% dextrin isostearate.
[0149] The treatment method was the same as in Example 1.A above, except with only 10% dextrin isostearate.
[0150] B. Coating of yellow iron oxide with dextrin isostearate Yellow iron oxide (TAROXLL-100HP: manufactured by Titanium Industry Co., Ltd.) was treated with 10% dextrin isostearate.
[0151] The treatment method was the same as in Example 1.A above, except with only 10% dextrin isostearate.
[0152] C. Coating of white pigment, titanium dioxide, with dextrin isostearate A white pigment, titanium dioxide (CR-50: manufactured by Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, Ltd.), was treated with 2% dextrin isostearate.
[0153] The treatment method was the same as above for ASC-5 HVY-10 RED R-516P, except with 2% dextrin isostearate.
[0154] Example 3 Surface-treated pigments using cutting-edge technology In the following examples, the acrylates / dimethicone copolymer used is manufactured by Daito Kasei Kogyo Co., Ltd. under the product name "ASC Treatment" and the following product codes:
[0155] A. Red pigment iron oxide coated with acrylate / dimethicone copolymer The red pigment, iron oxide, treated with acrylates / dimethicone copolymer has the trade designation ASC-7 YELLOW LL-100P.
[0156] B. Yellow iron oxide coated with acrylate / dimethicone copolymer The yellow pigment, iron oxide, treated with acrylates / dimethicone copolymer has the trade designation ASC-5 RED R-516L.
[0157] C. A coating of white pigment titanium dioxide coated with acrylate / dimethicone copolymer The white pigment, titanium, treated with acrylate / dimethicone copolymer has the trade designation ASC-2 TiO2 CR-50.
[0158] Example 4 The color difference between the dry and wet states of the treated pigment One major cause of color development in a composition is the color difference between the pigments when they are dispersed in a wet formulation compared to their dry form.
[0159] Therefore, measurements were taken to assess the color difference between the dry and wet states of the treated pigments.
[0160] The test method for measuring color difference using the L*a*b* system was as follows.
[0161] a. Dryness measurement: 2 g of each pigment listed in the table below was placed on a filter paper (No. 5C, 150 mm diameter) and the filter paper was folded in half.
[0162] The pigment sandwiched between filter papers was then compressed.
[0163] The color of the compressed pigment was then measured by a spectrophotometer (CM-2600d, manufactured by Konica Minolta, Inc.).
[0164] b. Wetting Measurement: 2 g of each of the pigments listed in the table below was placed on a filter paper (No. 5C, 150 mm diameter) and the pigment was wetted with squalane.
[0165] The surface of the wet pigment was smoothed with a spatula.
[0166] The color of the wetted pigment was then measured by a spectrophotometer (CM-2600d, manufactured by Konica Minolta, Inc.).
[0167] c. The difference in color between dry and wet states The color difference between the wet and dry states of each pigment is compared in Table 1.
[0168] [Table 1]
[0169] The treated red pigment according to the invention (Example 1.A) has a lower value of ΔE compared to surface treated pigments according to the state of the art, i.e. a red pigment coated with dextrin isostearate (Example 2A) and a red pigment coated with acrylate / dimethicone copolymer (Example 3A).
[0170] [Table 2]
[0171] The treated yellow pigment according to the invention (Example 1.B) has a lower value of ΔE compared to surface-treated pigments according to the state of the art, i.e. a yellow pigment coated with dextrin isostearate (Example 2B) and a yellow pigment coated with acrylate / dimethicone copolymer (Example 3B).
[0172] For red and yellow pigments, the ASC HVY treated pigments according to the present invention (Examples 1.A and 1.B) have lower ΔE values than other pigments, which indicates that the pigments are already wetted by dextrin isostearate before adding oil (squalane). Therefore, they have improved color stability and brightness properties.
[0173] Example 5 Difference in color change in emulsion blends The test method for measuring color difference using the L*a*b system was as follows.
[0174] a. Water-in-oil emulsion formulations: A water-in-oil emulsion of this invention was prepared according to the formulation shown in Table 2 below.
[0175] Components 1 to 4 were stirred until homogenous to obtain an oil phase mixture.
[0176] Separately, ingredients 5 to 8 were stirred until homogenous to obtain an aqueous phase mixture.
[0177] The aqueous phase mixture was then added to the oil phase mixture with stirring to obtain a water-in-oil emulsion.
[0178] Finally, each pigment was added to the water-in-oil emulsion and mixed thoroughly.
[0179] [Table 3]
[0180] b. Wetness measurement: The tested emulsion was spread on paper (Bycochart, uncoated chart #2831) using a 200 μm thick coater. The chart has white and black areas, and the color was measured on the black area by a spectrophotometer (CM-2600d, manufactured by Konica Minolta, Inc.).
[0181] c. Dryness measurement: ΔE was measured by spectrophotometer after complete drying.
[0182] d.Color difference between dry and wet state: The color difference between the wet and dry states of each pigment is compared in Table 3.
[0183] [Table 4]
[0184] The ASC HVY treated pigments of red iron oxide, yellow pigment and white pigment (Examples 1.A; 1.B; 1.C) had lower values of ΔE compared to the surface treated pigments according to the state of the art, i.e. pigments coated with dextrin isostearate (Examples 2A, 2B and 2C) and pigments coated with acrylate / dimethicone copolymer (Examples 3A, 3B and 3C).
[0185] Therefore, according to the present invention, the treated pigment has improved stability properties in terms of color and brightness over time.In fact, the pigment is wetted by dextrin isostearate, so oil is adsorbed around the pigment.Since the surface of the pigment is also treated with acrylate / dimethicone copolymer, said acrylate / dimethicone copolymer prevents the elution of dextrin isostearate. The oil is therefore held around the pigment, keeping it wet for a long time.
[0186] Advantageously, therefore, cosmetic compositions containing such pigments remain color stable and do not fade, discolor, migrate or change.
[0187] Thus, wetting of the pigment with a specific oil through a first coat and trapping of said wetted pigment through another specific second coat improved the color stability and brightness of the makeup.
