Abstract

In known profiled strips (100) for connecting a windshield glass to a water box cover, which comprise a fastening area (200) for connecting to the windshield glass and a locking area (300) for lockingly connecting to the ribs of the water box cover, water can accumulate on or in the profiled strip (100) and drip uncontrolledly into the engine compartment, potentially damaging the engine's electronic components. The profiled strip (100) according to the present invention solves this problem by providing drainage elements (400) arranged in subsections (101) along the length of the profiled strip (100) in the locking area. The length of the subsections (101) and / or the drainage elements (400) is preferably dimensioned parallel to the longitudinal direction (C) of the profiled strip (100) and is smaller than the length of the profiled strip (100). The drainage element 400 can be arranged in the form of an extension 401 in the region of the outer subsection 101 of the fastening region 300, or can be formed as an integral part in a localized region of the fastening region 300. The extension 401 can surround at least one portion of the exterior of the fastening region 300 and can have a consistent or varying cross-sectional profile. Alternatively, the extension 401 can be arranged on an end face of the fastening region 300 or cover an opening 305 in the fastening region 300. Furthermore, an outlet opening 407 can be provided in the extension 401. The drainage element 400 can also be provided in the form of a drainage opening 403 in a subsection 101 of the profiled strip 100 of the fastening region 300, optionally including a drip edge 404. Recesses (406) or thickened portions of material (405) in defined areas of the locking area (300) are also possible.

Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a profiled strip having a drainage element for guiding and controlled drainage of water occurring on the outside of the profiled strip or on the latch part of the profiled strip.

Background Art

[0002] Patent Publication Gazette EP 1 280 675 B1, DE 20 2008 009 712 U1, and DE 20 2008 006 986 U1 describe profiled strips in the form of cowl profile elements having a mounting part for attachment to a windshield glass and a latch part for receiving a rib of a cowl plenum cover with a latch.

[0003] Such profiled strips are attached to the lower end of the windshield glass and then to the vehicle body. For example, water (such as rainwater) flowing out from the A-pillar may flow along the outside of the cowl-shaped element from the lower end of the A-pillar. In this case, water drips down uncontrollably from the profiled strip towards the engine room. Also, water may enter the latch part and then drip into the engine compartment in an uncontrolled state. In either case, there is a risk of a short circuit occurring in the electronic devices and sensors installed in the engine room.

[0004] Patent Publication Gazette EP 3 256 339 B1 provides holes in the mounting part of the cowl-shaped element for discharging water entering between the window glass and the profiled strip. However, this does not prevent the uncontrolled dripping of water from the outside of the profiled strip.

[0005] In known profiled strips, water present on the outside of the profiled strip or on the latch part does not drip down in a controlled manner.

[0006] The technical problem is to provide a solution for the guided and drained water controlled from the latch part or the outside of the profiled strip.

[0007] The technical problem is solved by a profiled strip including a drainage element.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED BY THE INVENTION

[0008] Therefore, an object of the present invention is to guide and / or discharge water that appears outside the latch portion and the profiled strip.

MEANS FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEM

[0009] This is a profiled strip for connecting an automotive windshield glass to a cowl plenum cover, the profiled strip being connectable to the windshield glass and including an attachment portion having an attachment side facing the windshield glass and a lower side facing outward away from the windshield glass, and further including a latch groove that receives a rib of the cowl plenum cover and has an outer side facing outward away from the latch groove, the latch groove being bounded by an inner leg adjacent to the attachment portion, an outer leg facing the inner leg, and a bottom connecting the two legs, and the profiled strip having a drainage element disposed in the latch portion in a section along the longitudinal length of the profiled strip, which is achieved by the profiled strip.

[0010] In this connection, the longitudinal length dimensioned parallel to the longitudinal direction of the profiled strip may be smaller than the longitudinal length of the profiled strip.

[0011] In one embodiment, the drainage element is configured as an additional portion disposed in the region of at least a part of the section outside the latch portion.

[0012] In another embodiment, the additional portion is configured to surround at least a part of the latch portion when viewed in cross section. Optionally, it may extend across at least a part of the lower side of the attachment portion when viewed in cross section.

[0013] In a further embodiment, the additional part has a substantially uniform cross-sectional profile along a longitudinal length dimensioned parallel to the longitudinal direction of the profiled strip.

[0014] In another embodiment, the additional part may also have a variable cross-sectional profile along a longitudinal length dimensioned parallel to the longitudinal direction of the profiled strip.

[0015] In a further embodiment, the additional part may be formed at least partially, preferably from a water-repellent or water-blocking foamed material.

[0016] In another embodiment, the additional part at least partially covers an opening provided in the bottom and / or outer leg of the profiled strip. In this connection, a sealing element may optionally be provided to act between the additional part and at least a part of the edge bounding the opening.

[0017] In a further embodiment, the additional part is arranged on the profiled strip at the end face of the latch part and can at least partially cover the latch groove in cross-section.

[0018] In the latter two embodiments, the additional part optionally has a drainage opening fluidly connected to the latch groove.

[0019] In another embodiment of the profiled strip according to the invention, the drainage element is configured as a drainage opening provided in the region of the bottom and / or a section of the outer leg.

[0020] In a further embodiment, at least a part of the edge bounding the drainage opening has a drip edge protruding outwardly with respect to the latch groove.

[0021] In another embodiment, the drainage element is arranged in the region of the outer section of the latch part of the bottom and / or outer leg and is configured as a thickening of the material protruding outwardly with respect to the latch groove or as a recess arranged in the bottom and / or outer leg and recessed inwardly with respect to the latch groove.

Embodiments for Carrying Out the Invention

[0023] (Definition) Here, the "longitudinal direction" refers to the dimension direction of the profiled strip (in the case of an extruded profiled strip, corresponding to the extrusion direction). In the case of a profiled strip curved to fit the lower edge of the windshield glass, the longitudinal direction may extend along the curved line. The "longitudinal length (profiled strip)" refers to the dimension of the profiled strip in the longitudinal direction. The "section" refers to a section along the longitudinal length of the profiled strip. In this section, the drainage element is arranged in the profiled strip, and it is intended to drip or drain water in a manner controlled by the drainage element. The "longitudinal length (section)" refers to the dimension of the section dimensioned in a direction parallel to the longitudinal direction of the profiled strip. The "longitudinal length (additional part)" refers to the dimension of the additional part dimensioned in a direction parallel to the longitudinal direction of the profiled strip. The "cross-section" refers to the cross-section of a plane passing through the profiled strip and / or an additional part perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the profile. The "cross-sectional contour" refers to the contour in the cross-section of the profiled strip or the additional part.

[0024] The "outside of the latch part" refers to the side of the latch part facing outward away from the latch groove. The "mounting side of the mounting part" is the side of the mounting part that functions to be mounted on the windshield glass, can include the fixing means of the windshield glass, and faces the windshield glass when connected to the windshield glass. The "lower side of the mounting part" refers to the side of the mounting part facing the opposite of the mounting side. The "outside of the profiled strip" includes the outside of the latch part and the lower side of the fixing part. The "inner leg" is a leg located adjacent to the fixing part and constituting a part of the boundary of the latch groove. The "outer leg" is the leg opposite to the inner leg and constituting a part of the boundary of the latch groove. The outer leg is farther away from the mounting part than the inner leg. The "bottom" is the connecting part between the inner leg and the outer leg.

[0025] The drainage element according to the present invention can be attached as an additional part to the outside of the profiled strip, or can be an integral part of the profiled strip, and can be formed, for example, by a local opening in the latch part or by a local contour outside the latch part. The drainage element is arranged in the latch part in a section along the longitudinal length of the profiled strip, and this section preferably has a longitudinal length smaller than that of the profiled strip dimensioned parallel to the longitudinal direction of the profiled strip. Thereby, water can be discharged in a controlled manner at a desired position along the longitudinal length of the profiled strip. The term "section" is used only in the singular below, but it is also possible to provide one section or a plurality of sections on the same profiled strip.

[0026] The profiled strip of the invention for connecting an automotive windshield glass and a cowl plenum cover includes a mounting part and a latch part in a known manner. The windshield glass can be connected to the mounting part of the profiled strip on its mounting side by fixing means such as double-sided adhesive tape. Other types of fixing are also possible.

[0027] The latch part includes a latch groove extending in the longitudinal direction of the profiled strip. The latch groove serves to receive the latch rib of the cowl plenum cover. The latch groove is bounded towards the fixing part by an inner leg. The outer leg is on the opposite side of the inner leg. Located between these two legs is the bottom, which interconnects the two legs and forms the latch groove. In the case of a V-shaped latch groove, the bottom constitutes the region where the inner leg and the outer leg meet. A latch element for preferably latch-engaging with the rib of the cowl plenum cover may be arranged in the latch groove. Alternatively or additionally, the latch connection of the rib can also be effected by one or more undercuts on one or both legs.

[0028] The attachment part and the latch part of the profiled strip are preferably integrally connected as a one-piece. The profiled strip is preferably made of a plastic material and can preferably be manufactured by an extrusion process. Furthermore, the profiled strip can preferably contain a reinforcing material of metal or alloy.

[0029] The profiled strip according to the invention further comprises a drainage element, which is arranged in the latch part of a section of the profiled strip, and this element can be formed by drainage openings provided in the outer region of the latch part, in particular the local contour, bottom and / or outer legs, or by an additional part arranged in the latch part.

[0030] The longitudinal length of the section dimensioned parallel to the longitudinal direction of the profiled strip is preferably smaller than the longitudinal length of the profiled strip. The longitudinal length of the section is preferably 10%, 5%, 3%, 2%, particularly preferably 1% of the longitudinal length of the profiled strip.

[0031] According to one embodiment, the drainage element is an additional part arranged in the region of a section of the profiled strip, at least partially outside the latch part of the profiled strip, and is preferably connected to the profiled strip by friction and / or in an interlocking manner. Attachment by an adhesive or joining of the materials is also conceivable. Thereby, the profiled strip and the drainage element can be easily manufactured separately in a way that allows them to be optimized independently of each other. The additional part is manufactured separately from the profiled strip. After its manufacture, the additional part is attached to the profiled strip, for example, by a clip connection.

[0032] The material of the additional part is preferably composed of plastic and may be the same as the material of the profiled strip. However, the plastic may also be different therefrom, for example, harder or softer (higher or lower Shore hardness) than the plastic of the profiled strip or a part thereof.

[0033] The additional part surrounds at least a part of the outside of the latch part when viewed in cross-section. Optionally, the additional part may additionally extend over at least a part of the lower side of the mounting part when viewed in cross-section. This makes it possible to improve the attachment of the additional part to the profiled strip compared to the length covering only the latch part.

[0034] Such an additional part can have a substantially uniform cross-sectional profile along its longitudinal length, for example in the formation of a clip. Thus, the diameter or material thickness of the additional part is substantially uniform along its longitudinal length. The longitudinal length of the additional part refers to its dimension in a direction parallel to the longitudinal direction of the profiled strip. Thereby, the additional part can be manufactured in a simple manner, for example by extrusion and subsequent cutting into sections of a desired length.

[0035] Alternatively, the additional part may have a variable cross-sectional profile along its longitudinal length. In that case, such an additional part has different material thicknesses along its longitudinal length. This makes it possible to force the detachment of water droplets in selected areas of the additional part, for example by configuring the profile such that a drip edge or drip point is formed.

[0036] Furthermore, the additional part may preferably be made partially or entirely of a water-repellent foamed material or a water-blocking foamed material. In this case, the attachment to the outside of the profiled strip can also be done by joining material to material. In this connection, the foamed material surrounds at least a part of the outside of the latch part. In addition, the foamed material may also extend along a part or the whole of the lower side of the mounting part.

[0037] The additional part can be arranged in the area of a local opening of the outer leg and / or the bottom, and in cross-section, it can surround at least a part outside the latch part, thereby being able to at least partially, preferably substantially cover the opening. In this connection, a sealing element can be provided that acts between at least a part of the edge that forms the boundary between the additional part and the opening. The opening can be formed by punching, drilling, milling, cutting, etc. Thereby, the water present in the latch groove can be discharged in a controlled manner.

[0038] Alternatively, the additional part can also be arranged on the end face of the latch part, that is, in the area of the end of the profiled strip that delimits the longitudinal length of the profiled strip. Similarly, it is also possible to arrange two additional parts on the two end faces of the latch part. Here, the additional part can, for example, be slipped externally at the end. This additional part is dimensioned to at least partially, preferably completely cover the latch groove in cross-section.

[0039] In the above two embodiments, optionally, a discharge opening fluidly connected to the latch groove may be provided, for example, in the form of a spout or a nozzle.

[0040] Moreover, the profiled strip according to the invention may include one or more of the above-described additional parts. Further, a plurality of additional parts of different embodiments may be arranged on the profiled strip according to the invention. For example, one or two additional parts arranged on one or two end faces of the latch part can be combined with one or more additional parts along the longitudinal length of the profiled strip. Overall, the use of one additional part does not exclude the use of another additional part; rather, this is left to the discretion of those skilled in the art.

[0041] The drainage element may also be an integral part of the profiled strip. Thereby, additional elements that need to be separately manufactured and attached to the profiled strip are not required.

[0042] Accordingly, in another embodiment of the present invention, the drainage element is provided in the area of the section of the latch part and is configured as a drainage opening that locally opens the latch groove in this area. The drainage opening may be formed in the outer leg and / or the bottom. The drainage opening may be formed by punching, drilling, milling, cutting, or the like. The drainage opening can perform both functions: to drain water from the latch groove in a controlled manner and to drip water flowing along the outside of the profiled strip in a controlled manner.

[0043] In a further embodiment, at least a part of the edge defining the drainage opening has a drip edge that protrudes outward with respect to the latch groove. The drainage opening and the protruding drip edge can be formed together in a process combining punching and crimping. Preferably, such drip edges are provided in two boundary regions of the drainage opening located on opposite sides of each other in the longitudinal direction of the profiled strip.

[0044] In a further embodiment of the profiled strip according to the present invention, the drainage element is a local recess in the material or a local thickening of the material provided in the area of the section of the profiled strip outside the latch part. For example, a thickening of the material directed outward with respect to the latch groove can be provided on the outer leg and / or the bottom of the latch part. Alternatively, a recess recessed inward with respect to the latch groove may be provided on the outer leg and / or the bottom of the latch part. In this connection, the contour edge of the material thickening or recess drips water in a controlled manner from the outside of the contour.

[0045] The recess in the material or the thickening of the material can preferably be located at the lowest point of the profiled strip in the installed state when viewed in cross-section. The installed state is when the profiled strip is attached to the vehicle windshield. In this installed state, the profiled strip is inclined obliquely. Then, the cross-section of the profiled strip shown on the left in FIG. 1 is rotated 30° clockwise. Then, when viewed in cross-section, the lowest point of the contour is located in the area of the outer leg and / or the bottom area, and / or the transition area between the outer leg and the bottom.

[0046] All of the above-described embodiments of the drainage element, i.e., both those in the form of an additional part and those in the form of a recess and / or a thickened part of the material and / or a drainage opening, may be combined with one another on a given profiled strip. Thus, in this case, a given profiled strip is characterized by a plurality of sections each having a longitudinal length smaller than the longitudinal length of the profiled strip.

[0047] The profiled strip of the invention comprising a drainage element is used for guiding and / or draining water occurring on or in the profiled strip. Such water may occur, for example, outside the profiled strip or may be present in the profiled strip.

[0048] A method for guiding and / or discharging water occurring on or in the profiled strip comprises at least the following steps a) providing a profiled strip according to the invention, b) connecting the attachment part of the profiled strip to the windshield glass.

[0049] When the additional part is used as a drainage element, step a) of the method may comprise the steps of providing the profiled strip, providing the drainage element by forming the additional part, and arranging the drainage element at least in part outside the section of the profiled strip and the latch part of the profiled strip.

[0050] Furthermore, the method according to the invention comprises the following steps c) attaching the windshield glass with the profiled strip attached thereto to the vehicle body, d) connecting a cowl plenum cover to the profiled strip.

[0051] Some non-limiting exemplary embodiments are shown in the drawings and described below.

[0052] (Description of the drawings) Each figure shows a profiled strip (100) including an attachment part (200) having fixing means (201) for connection to the windshield glass and a latch part (300) for connection to the cowl plenum cover. The latch part (300) extends in the longitudinal direction (C) of the profiled strip (100) and includes a latch groove (301) that can be latched to a rib of the cowl plenum cover. The latch groove (301) is bounded by an inner leg (302) adjacent to the attachment part (200), an outer leg (303) opposite the inner leg (302), and a bottom (304) between the two legs (302, 303). The profiled strip (100) has a section (101) along its longitudinal direction. Figures 1 to 6b show a drainage element (400) in the form of an additional part (401) arranged in the region of the profiled strip (100) of the section (101). Figures 7 to 9 show the drainage element (400) as an integral part of the profiled strip (100) in the region of each section (101) of the profiled strip (100).

[0053] Figure 1 shows a drainage element (400) in the form of an additional part (401) arranged in the region of the section (101) of the profiled strip (100) outside the latch part (300) of the profiled strip (100). The additional part (401) includes at least a part outside the latch part (300) when viewed in cross-section and has a uniform cross-sectional profile along its longitudinal length.

[0054] Also, the drainage element (400) shown in Figure 2 is arranged as an additional part (401) in the region of the section (101) of the profiled strip (100) outside the profiled strip (100). This additional part (401) has a uniform cross-sectional profile along its longitudinal length, extends along a part outside the latch part (300) when viewed in cross-section, and further extends along the lower side of the attachment part (200).

[0055] The drainage element (400) shown in Fig. 3 is arranged as an additional part (401) in the region of the section (101) outside the latch part (300) of the profiled strip (100) when viewed in cross-section, and surrounds at least a part outside the latch part (300). This additional part (401) has a variable cross-sectional profile along its longitudinal length. In cross-section A-A of Fig. 3, the additional part (401) has a greater material thickness than in cross-section B-B of Fig. 3.

[0056] Fig. 4 shows the drainage element (400) in the form of an additional part (401) preferably made of a water-repellent or water-blocking foamed material (402). When viewed in cross-section, it extends along a part outside the latch part (300) and along a part under the mounting part (200).

[0057] Fig. 5 shows the drainage element (400) in the shape of an additional part (401) covering the local opening (305) of the latch part (300). The opening (305) provided in a part of the outer leg (303) and the bottom (304) is covered by the additional part (401). The additional part (401) additionally has an outlet opening (407) fluidly connected to the latch groove. This serves to additionally discharge the liquid present in the latch groove (301). Optionally, a seal may be provided that substantially surrounds the opening (305) after the additional part (401) is installed.

[0058] Figs. 6a - 6c show the drainage element (400) in the form of an additional part (401) arranged in the region of the section (101) at the end face of the latch part (300), that is, in the region of the end of the profiled strip (100) delimiting the longitudinal length of the profiled strip (100). When viewed in cross-section, the additional part (401) extends along a part outside the latch part (300) and along the underside of the mounting part (200), and thus, in particular, prevents water from entering the latch groove (301). As illustrated in Fig. 6c, an outlet opening (407) fluidly connected to the latch groove can be additionally provided in the additional part (401).

[0059] Figures 7a and 7b show a drainage element (400) as an integral part of the profiled strip (100) in the region of the section (101). In this example, the outer leg (303) has a drainage element (400) in the form of a drainage opening (403) in the region of the section (101). This drainage opening (403) is formed in a part of the outer leg (303) and the bottom (304). As shown in Figure 7a, the drip edge (404) is provided at the boundary of the drainage opening (403) in regions located opposite to each other in the longitudinal direction (C) of the profiled strip (100), and the drip edge (404) is directed transversely to the longitudinal direction (C). The drip edge (404) is protruded outward with respect to the latch groove (301) to allow water to drip in a controlled manner at this position of the profiled strip (100).

[0060] Figure 8 shows a drainage element (400) in the region of the section (101), and this drainage element (400) is in the form of a thickening (405) of the material outside the latch part (300), and the thickening (405) of the material is directed outward with respect to the latch groove (301). Here, as shown in the cross-section A-A, the thickening (405) of the material relates to the outer leg (303), the inner leg (302), and the bottom (304). This thickening (405) is provided only in the region of the latch part (300) of the profiled strip (100) that forms the region forming the drainage element (400), while outside this region, the profiled strip (100) has a cross-sectional contour as shown in the cross-section B-B.

[0061] Figure 9 shows a drainage element (400) in the region of the section (101), and this drainage element (400) is in the form of a recess (406) outside the latch part (300), and this recess (406) is recessed inward with respect to the latch groove (301). The recess (406) relates to the outer leg (303), the inner leg (302), and the bottom (304), and is provided only in the region of the latch part (300) of the profiled strip (100) that forms the region forming the drainage element (400), while outside this region, the profiled strip (100) has a cross-sectional contour as shown in the cross-section B-B.
