AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Existing electrode assemblies face issues with lithium ion deposition due to N/P ratio reversal, leading to rapid battery deterioration during high-rate charge and discharge, which is not effectively addressed by conventional designs.
Method used
The electrode assembly includes a positive electrode with an insulating coating layer covering part of the active material layer and protrusions, and a negative electrode with uncoated portions, arranged to maintain a favorable N/P ratio and prevent lithium ion deposition.
Benefits of technology
This design minimizes capacity loss while effectively preventing N/P ratio reversal, ensuring safe and efficient lithium ion movement, thereby enhancing battery performance.

Abstract
According to an embodiment of the present invention, there is provided an electrode assembly comprising: a positive electrode including a positive electrode current collector and a positive electrode active material layer disposed on the positive electrode current collector; and a negative electrode including a negative electrode current collector and a negative electrode active material layer disposed on the negative electrode current collector, the positive electrode and the negative electrode being disposed in a direction in which the positive electrode active material layer and the negative electrode active material layer face each other. The positive electrode includes an insulating coating layer covering from an end of the positive electrode active material layer to at least a portion of the positive electrode active material layer, and the insulating coating layer includes at least one protrusion protruding from the end of the positive electrode active material layer toward a center of the positive electrode active material layer.
