[0003] Protective lens covers are important in preventing dust, lint, and other debris from adhering to the lens of, for example, a red dot or riflescope sight and obscuring it. Protective lens covers must not only reliably cover the lens, but also be conveniently stowed away so as to avoid obstructing the lens, the user's hands, and the user's field of vision.
[0004] Protective lens covers for red dot or riflescope sights come in a wide variety of sizes. Each cover secures to the red dot or riflescope sight differently and uses a different structure / mechanism to ensure the cover does not get in the way during use. [0013] The present invention relates to a protective lens cover assembly, particularly a protective lens cover assembly for a red dot or riflescope. Certain preferred and exemplary embodiments of the invention are described below, but the invention is not limited to these embodiments.
[0014] In the illustrated embodiment, protective lens cover assembly 100 is shown in use, with red dot sight 200 having body 220 with objective end 201 and eyepiece end 202 on opposite sides of sight body 220. Battery compartment 203 with battery compartment cap or cover 204 is located between objective end 201 and eyepiece end 202 of sight body 220. However, it will be understood that protective lens cover assembly 100 as illustrated and described herein can be used with many different sights, including other red dot sights and riflescope sights, and the specific size and geometry of protective lens cover assembly 100 can be reasonably modified to accommodate variations in the design of such sights.

Specifically, cover 50 has a sleeve 53 with a first set of securing structures (not shown) consisting of grooves on each side located adjacent to circumferential protrusions that extend along the entire inner circumference of sleeve 53 at its outer edge. Like objective end 201, eyepiece end 202 further has a lip 208 (see FIGS. 2A and 3) that projects outward from the periphery of end 202. When sleeve 53 is pressed onto lip 208, a first set of securing structures (not shown) fit or snap onto lip 208 of eyepiece end 202 and fit into gap 210 between lip 208 and sight body 220, thereby securing cover 50 to eyepiece end 202. Specifically, when sleeve 53 is pressed onto eyepiece end 202, and particularly onto lip 208, the lip 208 is thereby secured within sleeve 53 of cover 50 with the first set of securing structures (not shown) positioned around gap 210. A circumferential protrusion (not shown) prevents sleeve 53 from being removed from eyepiece end 202 by simply moving sight 200 or by accidental contact. Some force may be required to remove cover 50 from eyepiece end 202. An inner wall (not shown) of cover 50 prevents cover 50 from being pushed further onto eyepiece end 50.

Circumferential protrusions 41 a, 41 b prevent sleeve 33 b from being removed from battery compartment 203 by simply moving sight 200 or by accidental contact. Some force may be required to remove cover 30 from battery compartment 203. Wall 38 of cap 30 prevents cover 30 from being pressed further onto battery compartment 203.
[0025] Eyepiece end cover 50 also includes a second set of fastening structures. Eyepiece end cover 50's second set of fastening structures are specifically designed to engage with objective end cap 30's first set of fastening structures. Specifically, as perhaps best shown in FIG. 1 , eyepiece end cover 50 includes lip 51 and gap 52, similar to ends 201 and 202 of sight 200. To secure eyepiece end cover 50 to objective end cover 30 when objective end cover 30 is connected to battery compartment 203, eyepiece end cover 50's second set of fastening structures, specifically lip 51, is pressed into sleeve 33a of objective end cover 30. The first set of securing structures 35 of the objective end cover 30 fit or snap onto the lips 51 of the second set of securing structures of the eyepiece end cover 50 and fit within the gaps 52, thereby securing the objective end cover 30 to the eyepiece end cover 50. Specifically, when the lips 51 are pressed into the sleeve 33a, the lips 51 are secured within the sleeve 33a of the cap 30 with the first set of securing structures 35 positioned around the gaps 52. The circumferential protrusions 31a, 31b prevent the sleeve 33a from being disengaged from the cover 50 by simply moving the sight 200 or by accidental contact. Some force may be required to disengage the covers 30, 50 from one another. The walls 38 prevent the cover 50 from being pushed further onto the objective end cover 30.

A protective lens cover assembly comprising: The main body and a first lens cover having a first set of fastening structures and a second set of fastening structures; a second lens cover having a first set of fastening structures and a second set of fastening structures; the first lens cover has a first sleeve and a second sleeve, the first sleeve and the second sleeve being separated by a wall, the first set of fixing structures being located on the first sleeve, and the second set of fixing structures being located on the second sleeve; the first lens cover and the second lens cover are coupled to the body; a first set of fastening structures of one of the first and second lens covers configured to engage with a second set of fastening structures of the other of the first and second lens covers.
2. 2. The protective lens cover assembly of claim 1, wherein the first set of fastening structures and the second set of fastening structures of the first lens cover are identical.

The protective lens cover assembly of claim 1, wherein the first and second sets of fastening structures each include a groove and two circumferential protrusions along the inner periphery of the sleeve, a first of the circumferential protrusions being located on a first side of the groove and a second of the circumferential protrusions being located on a second side of the groove.
4. 2. The protective lens cover assembly of claim 1, wherein the second lens cover has a first sleeve and a wall, the first set of fastening structures being located on the first sleeve, and the second set of fastening structures being located on the wall.

The protective lens cover assembly of claim 4, wherein the first set of securing structures includes a groove and two circumferential protrusions along the inner periphery of the sleeve, a first of the circumferential protrusions being located on a first side of the groove and a second of the circumferential protrusions being located on a second side of the groove.
6. 5. The protective lens cover assembly of claim 4, wherein the second set of securing structures includes a lip.

A sighting device, a sight body having an end portion on an objective lens side having a lens and an end portion on an eyepiece lens side having a lens; a protective lens cover assembly coupled to the sight body, the protective lens cover assembly comprising: The main body and a first lens cover having a first set of fastening structures and a second set of fastening structures; a second lens cover having a first set of fastening structures and a second set of fastening structures; the first lens cover and the second lens cover are coupled to the body; A sight, wherein the first set of fixing structures of the first lens cover engages with the objective lens side end of the sight body, the first set of fixing structures of the second lens cover engages with the eyepiece side end of the sight body, the second set of fixing structures of at least one of the first lens cover and the second lens cover engages with the sight body, and the second set of fixing structures of the other of the first lens cover and the second lens cover engages with the first set of fixing structures of the at least one of the first lens cover and the second lens cover.

10. The optical sight of claim 9 , wherein the second set of fastening structures of the at least one of the first lens cover and the second lens cover engage the battery compartment.
11. The optical sight of claim 10 , wherein the body of the protective lens cover assembly is coupled to the battery compartment.
12. The optical sight of claim 11 , wherein the first set of fixed structures and the second set of fixed structures of the first lens cover are identical.
13. 13. The optical sight of claim 12, wherein the first lens cover has a first sleeve and a second sleeve, the first sleeve and the second sleeve being separated by a wall, the first set of fixed structures being located on the first sleeve, and the second set of fixed structures being located on the second sleeve.
14. The sight of claim 7 , wherein the sight is coupled to a firearm.
