AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing methods for producing solid trialkylammonium dihydrogen phosphate face challenges due to its high hygroscopicity, leading to unprocessable lumps and gels when exposed to ambient moisture.

Method used

A method involving the combination of C1-C5 alkanols with aqueous phosphoric acid, addition of tri(C1-C4 alkyl)amine while maintaining low temperature, and use of an aprotic solvent to produce solid tri(C1-C4 alkyl)ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, followed by isolation and drying to achieve a fluid particulate form with minimal solvent and water content.

Benefits of technology

The method yields solid trialkylammonium dihydrogen phosphate in high yield, maintaining less than 1500 ppm of aprotic solvent, C1-C5 alkanol, and water, preventing gel formation and enabling easy handling.

Abstract

The present disclosure provides a method for producing solid tri(C1-C4 alkyl)ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, such as triethylammonium dihydrogen phosphate, in high yield and in a free-flowing particulate form. The solid product advantageously contains less than about 1500 ppm aprotic organic solvent, less than about 1500 ppm C1-C5 alkanol, and less than about 500 ppm water, as determined by Karl Fischer titration.
