Abstract

The utility model relates to devices for connecting and repairing pipes. A clamp comprises a C-shaped cross-sectional body with a longitudinal connector and a tightening mechanism with two opposing plates connected by at least one bolted connection. At least two spaced support grooves are formed on the free edge of each plate, open on the side of the free edge and separated from the bolt holes. Each groove comprises an entry portion and an extended support portion. The grooves of the two plates form at least two pairs for simultaneously accommodating the rod of a removable lever, and in the grooves of a selected pair. Description

[0001] The utility model relates to devices for connecting and repairing pipes, in particular to clamps with a bolt tightening mechanism.

[0002] Public patent US 9611957 B2, published April 4, 2017, describes a pipe coupling comprising an open tubular body and a clamping mechanism with two plate elements located at the ends of the body, connected by bolts. One plate element has a groove, and the projection of the other has a key that engages this groove and limits the relative radial movement of the plate elements. This solution is accepted as the closest analogue (prototype).

[0003] In the prototype, the groove is part of a permanently interacting "groove-key" pair and, during operation, is occupied by the key of another plate element. The prototype does not disclose support grooves on both plates, separate from the bolt holes, which form several pairs for selectively mounting the removable lever with support on both plates simultaneously. Therefore, the prototype design does not provide for selective application of force by the removable lever directly to both plates at different points along their length when mutual misalignment occurs.

[0004] The technical problem is the need to eliminate the mutual distortion of the clamping mechanism plates without applying a transverse load to the threaded parts of the bolts during installation and dismantling of the clamp.

[0005] The technical result consists in reducing the force required to eliminate the mutual distortion of the plates of the tensioning mechanism, while simultaneously reducing the transverse load on the threaded parts of the bolted connections.

[0006] The technical result is achieved in that the pipe clamp includes a housing, C-shaped in cross-section to form a longitudinal connector, and a clamping mechanism comprising two plates located opposite each other on the sides of the longitudinal connector, connected by at least one bolted connection. On the free edge of each plate, opposite the edge of the connection of the plate to the housing, at least two support grooves are formed, spaced apart along the plate. Each support groove is open on the side of the free edge, spatially separated from the opening of the bolted connection, and comprises an input portion and a support portion widened relative to it, communicating with each other. The support grooves of the two plates are arranged to form at least two pairs, each of which is configured to simultaneously accommodate the rod of the removable lever in both support grooves of the pair.

[0007] The open entry section allows the lever rod to be installed from the free edges of the plates without inserting it through a closed hole. The extended support section increases the contact area with the rod and prevents its lateral slippage. Simultaneous support of the rod on the grooves of both plates ensures direct force transfer between the plates, and the presence of several spaced pairs allows for selection of the pair closest to the area of greatest misalignment. Spatial separation of the support grooves from the bolted joint holes prevents the transfer of lever force through the threaded portions of the bolts. The combined effect of these features ensures the stated technical result.

[0008] Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of the clamp with a removable lever installed in a selected pair of support grooves; Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of the clamp without a removable lever.

[0009] The clamp comprises a housing 1, a clamping mechanism 2, bolted connections 3, plates 4, support grooves 5, and a removable lever 6. Housing 1 is C-shaped in cross-section, forms a working clearance for accommodating the pipe, and has a longitudinal connector. Two opposing plates 4 of the clamping mechanism 2 are located on the sides of the longitudinal connector at the ends of housing 1. In the illustrated embodiment, plates 4 are made of metal and are connected by two bolted connections 3.

[0010] On the free edge of each plate 4 remote from the housing 1, several support grooves 5 are formed spaced along it. Each groove 5 has an entry part open on the free edge and an extended support part. The boundaries of the grooves 5 do not intersect with the holes of the bolted connections 3. The grooves 5 of one plate 4 are coordinated in location with the grooves 5 of the other plate 4 so that the rod of the removable lever 6 can be simultaneously installed in the grooves 5 of the selected pair. At least one pair of grooves 5 can be located between adjacent bolted connections 3, and the other pair - on the outer side of the outer bolted connection 3.

[0011] To install the clamp, body 1 is placed around the pipe and bolted connections 3 are tightened. If mutual misalignment of the plates 4 occurs, removable lever 6 is inserted simultaneously from their free edges into two support grooves 5 of the selected pair located closer to the misalignment. When the handle of lever 6 is moved, its rod rests on the surfaces of the widened portions of the two grooves 5 and creates a moment that ensures the relative movement and alignment of the plates 4. After alignment, the transverse pressure of the edges of the bolt holes on the threaded portions of the bolts decreases, and tightening is continued. When dismantling the clamp, the misalignment is eliminated in a similar manner by loosening bolted connections 3.

[0012] The clamp can be manufactured using well-known sheet metal processing technologies and standard bolted connections, which confirms the industrial applicability of the utility model.
